Great audiobook. Twisty and compelling.
Liv has just been released from prison after being framed by her ex-husband. She can only see her daughter on short, supervised visits with her overbearing in-laws listening to every word, and she has no money to her name. She is determined to prove her innocence and get her daughter back but the lies go much deeper than she ever realised.
I listened on audiobook thanks to Netgalley UK.
I really enjoyed this one, it was my first book by this author and has made me want to read more! I also found the narrator really good.
It was exciting and had twists and turns throughout. I liked the main character and felt myself getting annoyed on her behalf. I found there was enough suspense and thrill for the book. Overall, a good read.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins Audio and C.L Taylor for an audio ARC in return for an honest review.
Olivia was falsely accused of the attempted murder of her husband. He framed her. Five years later and she is released from jail. Olivia is ready for her revenge.
There is only one word that does this book justice.. OUTSTANDING. ‘The Guilty Couple’
by C.L. Taylor is just phenomenal. I was hooked from the first few minutes. This books completely enthralls the reader. It is thrilling and a little eerie. I think I’ll need to reread it.
Clare Corbett’s narration was the icing on top of the cake. Very well suited.
I’d give this book 10 stars if I could.
I loved this book, listening to it on audio brought another dimension to it. It was a fast paced thriller that kept me hooked with all the twists and turns in it. I found the characters very relatable. Highly recommended. Five stars from me.
Many thanks to netgalley and C.L. Taylor for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.
The Guilty Couple very much fits into the 'domestic thriller' category from the Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, The Couple Next Door stable and is no less enjoyable for that.. It moves along at a rattling good pace and what I enjoyed about Olivia's journey is that she rarely fell into the 'do nothing' bracket. She's pretty active in following her goals and rarely sits alone weeping, which is really refreshing.
There are perhaps a few too many coincidences littering the plot - in a city the size and scope of London it is rare for people to overlap so consistently, but again, that aside, it's all very good thriller-y fun,
I would have liked to know more about the mechanics of the original plot against Olivia, how it was hatched and perpetrated as the beginning of this story holds as much interest as the end.
Overall C.L. Taylor has done it again, take it to the beach, listen on a jog, root for Olivia and her plucky group of mates and enjoy a twisty old ride.
Brilliant! I love this author’s plots, so intricate and twisty.
The narrator is good, easy to understand and listen to.
The guilty couple is a complex tale of betrayal, fraud, guilt and love. Who is the guilty person and who has been set up?
This book will keep you guessing and the ending is great.
A real page turner, I listened to it in one go!
Well what can I say as soon as I get a C.L. Slater book or audio I just have to read it. This didnt disappoint - maybe the ending but dont want to say anything due to spoilers, I got it but couldnt help think about the practicalities (accountant in me).
There is something extra special about listening to this type of book with a good narrator you really get absorbed and just want to listen - which is what I did.
Thoroughly recommend.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
I was so lucky to get both alc and arc of this book. It was a great mix od mystery and crime. I listened more but at some parts I had to read and I loved I had to pay more attention to all that was going on. It was greeping and I moved fast through. I was a little sad maybe at the end when all was done and there was a twist and a story that I do not know if will ever go on but nice try.
Marriage is forever? This had so many layers that was impossible to survive but was also interesting to watch, well read and listen about from a third part. The characters were well developed and was not clear the ending at all. Many twist made it a wonderful thriller.
Harper Collins Audio and Avon Books UK for this great experience.
I have wanted to read a C L Taylor book for a while now, so was delighted to get approved for this new one - and what a great book it is too - I was engrossed from beginning to end. There are a stack of twists which were a complete surprise and the ending is especially tense - I can see this being made into a movie. It's a pretty short book/audio and it's pretty fast paced with all circa 7 hours being packed with mystery and suspense. This is a highly recommended read which is out on 23rd June 2022. Thanks to NetGallery and HarperCollins UK Audio for allowing me to get a copy of the book. I'll certainly be reading other books by this Author.
4.5⭐️
I had read several of this authors books and loved them, so I was excited to read this one.
I had the audiobook version narrated by Claire Corbett she adds a good level of tension. There’s a good distinction between the characters voices.
Olivia Sutherland was wrongfully convicted of planning to murder 5 years ago.
Now she is free is intent on re building her relationship with her daughter, proving her innocence and bringing down her husband.
It is told by 3 POV Olivia, Dom (the husband) and Dani (the police officer involved in the investigation)
Olivia takes on cell mate Smithy to help her prove her innocence. As I was sold on Olivia’s innocence I was behind her quest. I really liked Smithy she is so down to earth and street wise.
There’s a range of characters each with ‘issues’ which adds interest, some likeable some you hate.
There’s plenty going on with the plot to give a good level of tension. Lots of twists and turns. It kept me well entertained throughout. I just felt the rounding up at the end dragged on a bit.
It’s one that I highly recommend.
