When I saw this available on Netgalley to read I just had to get it as I absolutely adored the first 2 books in this series and had to find out what happened ASAP!
And this last installment did not disappoint. Such an easy 5 star read.
They way that the story was written really had me not wanting to put it down. Just as you think you know how things will play out, another twist comes that I just didn't expect.
I think I experienced most emotions when reading this book and having now finished this series, I would have to say its my favourite series of all time.
If you haven't read this series go and pick it up now!
Thank you to Netgalley and hodder & stoughton for this ARC in exchange for a honest review! I honestly thought I wouldn’t get this arc as I requested REALLY late but I’m extremely glad I did! Lynette Noni did a great job at writing this trilogy and I wish I could relive the feeling of reading it for the first time again.
One of the strongest points of this series is how stable the plot was. Little to no plot holes and commendable writing that hooked me in immediately. Lynette Noni is a master at plot twists and- i died waiting for the next book cause Lynette Noni thinks cliffhangers are funny 🥲
Like I said before there are little to no plot holes but almost all of the tiny issues I find are in this book. Firstly (this is not a plot hole but anyways) the structure and archetype of this book (mostly the ya war storyline) is one of the most used out there. It comes to the point where it is easy for me to predict the storyline. This made the story dry and took some of the excitement out of it. Although this series has its own charms; the characters, the magic system- this last book was not as new and refreshing to me. BTW I STILL LOVE THE 1ST TWO BOOKS TO DEATH, THEYRE TOO GOOD TO PASS UP
I’ll try to keep spoilers to the minimum. But remember how kiva was drugged and tortured , the suspense and brutality of the first few chapters was not handled as well in the rest (in my opinion). As the first few chapters were so intense the others felt a little anticlimactic. My next tiny issue which I thankfully could ignore was the relationship. I love kiva and Jaren with my whole heart. Haha but too much exposure to YA fantasy and now I’m able to figure out how their entire relationship dynamic turned out this book.
Nonetheless, this book has an AMAZING CAST OF CHARACTERS. LITRALLY. I’m bad with remembering names so I’m not going to type them out but the amazing storyline hooked me in from the moment I read this book and I really really recommend anyone else read this. This book is deliciously fast paced and adrenaline packed. Definitely one of the best YA series of the past yr. I’m kinda bummed we didn’t get to see Jarens pet; the raccoon or something. Haha whatever it was I loved it 😔
Lynette Noni please keep making masterpieces
Thank you for my earc of this book! I loved being back in this world with these characters are was SO excited and nervous to see what happened.
I think Noni is a genuinely brilliant g character who manages to pack a punch in her plot.
My only issues with the book were that it at times read overly young/dramatic and there were some things that felt a little too convenient for the plot.
Otherwise it was fantastic!!!!! I can’t wait to read more from this author.
A perfect ending. That's pretty much all I can say!
It was a excellent final book to a trilogy I grew to love so much. Several characters have a place in my heart forever and I felt that the reactions of the characters to certain events were so realistic and therefore heartbreaking at times. There were tears and laughter and I loved every minute.
I couldn't have wanted any more from this final instalment.
My hope for YA has rekindled thanks to Lynette Noni. This series is addictive and so binge-worthy. (Yes I totally binge-read the last half of book 2 and the first half of book 3...I STAYED UP TILL 3AM FOR THIS *I had a fuck life moment that day and had much regret the morning after)
First of all. CALDEN MY SUNSHINE💖 I love how secondary characters actually have characters (&developments). I didn't expect one of the main secondary characters to be my absolute fav. I can riot (and actually tempted to riot at certain parts of the book) for him. He &Kiva's platonic love is just so precious it makes me cry and smile and swoon. Also CRESTA??ASH???RESS (the asexual queen we stan)?? I love the girls in the series so much (all girls except one...or two). We love wholesome female friendships in a book.
Secondly. I love how this book avoids common tropes in YA. Kiva is not the badass assassin (she's a healer you know) but she's THE main character. The whole series is centred around her background and her relationships with other characters - and I think it's pretty well developed in all aspects. She makes mistakes, and she is deeply traumatised, but in the end, she makes her own choices, attracted HER people and created her own found family. At times I am so frustrated by her by she still managed to claim status in my heart.
The third. Jaren. He is probably my favourite romantic interest in YA books since..a while (but also I felt like I have grown out of YA for a while). He's sweet&soft&kind-hearted. Not the kind you often see but it's the kind that I like the most. The romance in this book is...intense (if you remember how book 2 ended). It makes sense given the situation BUT it still makes me want to roll my eyes and kick their stubborn heads together..like everyone else in the book. I like how the rest is just like oh the kiddos please just resolve your drama and kiss already.
I wish I could have given the book five stars, but my heart says I wished it was a 4 books series (which I rarely say since I think most duologies can be standalone and most trilogies can be duologies HAHA). I feel like there's so much depth that can be explored more and in some parts, it feels too rushed or convenient. But overall I really enjoyed this series and my inner medical student (or healer *coughs*) is very satisfied. It gave back my hope for YA fantasy quite literally.
MANY thanks to Netgalley for sending my an ARC! When I read the first book as an ARC I was wishing that book is already published so more people can rave with me. I'm glad it gets the popularity it deserves. Enjoy book 3 peeps!!
It's always a worry that a series won't hold it's momentum, especially when it starts as strong as The Prison Healer did. No such concerns here, this trilogy is so well paced, that you won't know a moment of peace from start to finish.
There's a ton of action in this book, and the pacing means we don't linger anywhere too long. Kiva becomes the strongest version of herself throughout the course of the action, and I'm so pleased that we get more of our favourite side characters. Seeing the strength of Kiva and Caldon's friendship, Tipp is adorable as usual, more of our favourite badass Naari, we finally get to meet Caldon's sister Ashlyn, and honestly I think Cresta was my favourite in this book.
There's a good measure of heartbreak as with all of Lynette Noni's books, but the overwhelming theme of women can do this helps temper the despair.
I'll be recommending this trilogy to everyone!

Kiva is back where it all began and with nothing to show for it but a broken heart and a battered will. But she soon finds an unlikely ally who helps her to build herself back up again. With the kingdoms ready for war, uneasy allies and mortal enemies must join together to save Wenderall from destruction and complete a dangerous quest. The lives of everyone Kiva loves are at stake and she must master her magic and take a stand if they have any chance of survival.

This was everything I've ever wanted from a trilogy finale! When I say I adored this book I mean I was physically laughing, crying, smiling, swooning, whooping and cheering throughout! My husband thought I was going mad 😅😂 it sumed up all my questions and gave us the ending we deserve for such a fantastic trilogy. The page time dedicated to our favourites was perfect - including two extra characters, one of which near stole the show with their humour! This has been one of the best fantasy series I've read in a while! Hats off to Lynette Noni for bringing us this world and these characters! I loved reading her honest words in her acknowledgement section too - let me reiterate for you Lynette... This book, and series, rocked! Thank you to Hodderscape and NetGalley for the ARC.

"We’re in this together, Sunshine. You and me..."
What an epic conclusion to a brilliant fantasy series. With this last book I can honestly say, this is one of my favourites, which I will be recommending to everyone.
I loved how every single book in this trilogy added an extra level to all aspects of the plot. We got more world building in the last book with the characters going on a quest through different kingdoms and countries. The relationships, romantic and platonic, developed steadily throughout the series, and reached a clear, yet in some cases tragic, ending. The angst in this book made my heart hurt, and I may have shed a tear or two... Who am I kidding, I ugly cried, more than once!
Anyway, this is how a young adult fantasy series should be written, and I cannot wait to read more from this author!
The Blood Traitor by Lynette Noni is the third and final book in The Prison Healer Series. I binged this entire series in two days and I’m just so in love with this story and characters. Each book in the series just gets better and better and it’s for sure one of my new favorite fantasy series.
All the characters are so dear to my heart now and they grow together as a family and I loved that so much. Kiva is such a strong character and you can only admire her. Jaren is not only the prince of the people, but he truly is such a good guy. Tipp is the little brother everyone needs and he does some unexpected and admirable things in this book. Naari is such a vital part of the team and not only in protecting everyone, but also being a true friend. Caldon is the best and he could call me sunshine any day. You also get to meet Ashlyn and I loved her as well. Torell has a bit of a redemption arc in this one, but the most surprising person was Cresta and she is one of my new favorite characters.
Next to those amazing characters, the plot is also enthralling and keeps me on the edge of my seat as they have to face quite some challenges. There is for example a heist after some ancient rings and that brings them even closer together. In addition, the Zalindov prison is brought up again and that drew the connection to book one and rounded the story off very well.
Overall, The Blood Traitor is fantasy at its best and I can only recommend everyone to read this incredible series. If I could I would even give this book more than five stars.
(ARC kindly provided in exchange for a review.)
I honestly don’t think Lynette Noni can do anything wrong in this series. This final book is the trilogy is yet another hit that had me gasping, laughing and swooning in equal measure.
I absolutely loved being back in this universe with Kiva and the gang and getting to explore Cresta more as a character was an added bonus. Just like with the other two books this one is fast paced with SO MANY stressful moments but it all culminates in a satisfying conclusion.
I really don’t have much else to say except to shout about this entire series from the rooftops. It is definitely one of my favourite fantasy trilogies and I love all the characters (especially Jaren because *swoon*) and I am just so so glad that the third book was as good as the other two.
After having loved the first books in this trilogy, I was overjoyed to receive a copy of the Blood Traitor. I couldn't wait to see how this trilogy would conclude, and for me it definitely didn't disappoint.
This series had a little bit of everything I love in a fantasy novel, interesting and attention grabbing world building, a suspenseful plot and a slowburn romance. It was was always going to be a winner for me! I've loved seeing the series develop and how emotionally connected I became to the characters, Kiva, Jaren, Caldon and Tipp will always be favourites of mine!
The are some heavier topics dealt with this in this one, which I felt were handled very realistically and delicately and again bolstered the true strength that Kiva possesses.
The arc in this novel gave her story the perfect conclusion. I can honestly say I wouldn't have predicted the ending when I began reading this one, which is something I absolutely adored! I think I'll be rereading this series at some point in the not too distant future!
I would highly recommend picking this one up if you are a fan of YA fantasy!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free ARC in exchange for a review.
I have loved this series since I was lucky enough to get the first book as an ARC. Kiva and Jaren are some of the most well-written, complex characters in YA right now, and Noni's writing and ability to execute twists that make sense but still leave you shocked is truly incredible.
From the beginning, Noni has been great about putting trigger warnings in these books, and the Blood Traitor is no exception. It's really admirable how much she clearly cares about her readers.
Of course, as always, a highlight of the book was Kiva and Jaren's relationship. Their journey back to each other was really well-executed and spoke to the natural of betrayal but also the strength of loving someone.
I really love Caldon and Kiva's friendship, it's so strong, and in this book, it becomes clear that Caldon is Kiva's best friend in a really profound way that isn't seen often in mixed gender friendships in YA. And I adore that <spoiler> Cresta joins the gang. She quickly became one of my favourites in the book and her begrudging love for everyone is so amusing. </spoiler>
Zuleeka reminded me a lot of Azula from ATLA in this one, but I felt that the climax of the book didn't have the high stakes and tension it needed, and almost felt a bit anticlimactic.
I did really enjoy <spoiler> Warden Rooke finally getting his comeuppance, and I was very relieved that the whole death prison thing was going to be dealt with. For a moment, I was a bit unsure how they'd navigate that, but it all worked out. </spoiler>.
Overall, I have loved this series. I did feel that the twists and turns in this one weren't as strong as the first two, but as someone who loves Kiva and her story, I was more than willing to forgive that. Four enthusiastic stars.
Where do I even START with my love for this book, this series?
Lynette Noni - you have quickly climbed the ranks as one of my absolute favourite authors and thank you, thank you, thank you for writing what is easily one of my favourite series ever now.
The Blood Traitor was fantasy perfection. It’s got absolutely everything. Magic, drama, intrigue, romance, friendship, PINING… oh my god the pining! The twists and turns are immaculate.
These characters have my whole heart. Kiva is an absolute star. I adore her. Her heart, her conscience, her love for her friends and family… she’s a remarkable young woman and I would just die for her.
Jaren. Oh lovely Jaren. What’s not to love about Jaren? He’s a fantasy book boyfriend dream. Handsome, strong brave, kind, caring, loyal. Ugh.
Caldon, Tipp, Naari? All chefs kiss characters.
There’s even a surprising change of personality for another character who quickly becomes a favourite too and is definitely one of the most MVPs in the book!
I am so satisfied by this ending. I’m so sad to see this series finished.
Please read these books if you love YA fantasy. You won’t regret it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I was approved for this ARC a while back and continuously delayed reading it since it marks the end of one of my favourite series of recent years. Since first reading The Prison Healer last year, Noni has quickly climbed up the ranks as one of my instant buy authors.
Trying my best to savour the end of Kiva's journey, I reread both The Prison Healer and The Gilded Cage before starting and I'm quite glad I did as it made the events of The Blood Traitor, particularly the opening chapters, all the more impactful.
Without sharing spoilers, my heart broke for Kiva throughout this, similar to the emotional turmoil delivered by SJM in Kingdom of Ash. I sobbed through a good portion of this book.If I didn't already know Sarah and Lynette were friends, it would have been evident to me through the clear influence portrayed throughout this series.
Overall, there is SO much to love about this book, and while it's not perfect and there are certain plot points I would have voted against (a least favourite trope of mine pops up), it's still highly engaging, fast paced and I really just adore the cast of characters created.
INCOMING FIVE STAR REVIEW
Have you ever read a series that just hit every single hot spot for you? A Book that met, then surpassed every expectation you had for that book? No? Then you to pick up The Prison Healer series by Lynette Noni in particular, the third and final book of the series The Blood Traitor. You can tell that Lynette Noni the author has put her heart and soul within this book and I have nothing but praise for it.
The Blood Traitor as I have mentioned is the final book in the Prison Healer series, a series that follows our young heroine Kiva Corentine along with a trusty few other characters, *cough cough* Caldon *cough cough*. Book three literally takes off where book two - The Gilded Cage left us, in the dark, screaming NOOOOO WHYYYYY. This I think mirrors the actual ending of The Gilded Cage!
I am going to try to remain spoiler free as possible as I feel that you need to read this book and be surprised by some of what is happening to fully appreciate the writing and the tension that has been built up. I would also highly recommend binge reading this series, you won't regret it at all.
Lets talk characters - ADORE THEM ALL. Honestly in book two I felt like I wanted Kiva to be shoved out of a window to fall to her death as she annoyed me that much - I mean this in a praise worthy way of how she was written BTW. I always feel when I don't like a character they have been written really well and honestly Noni's characters are some of the best I have written. Caldon still to this day remains my favourite in the whole series. He is the cinnamon roll you all talk about - the one that you fall in love with, the golden retriever of the group.
We also got some new characters in this book as well, with Ashlyn and Cresta. Yes I know they have been mentioned in the other books but their characters are developed more in this one and you will not be sorry let me tell you. The interactions between Cresta and the group honestly made me smile every time, her interactions bring light to some of the tenser moments. Can't go on to the next part without mentioning Jaren, he wasn't my favourite in this book like he was in the others. I mean I get it, but I felt that he was just a bit of a meanie in this one - again you need to read it to appreciate what I am going on about.
The book is fast paced as the others and grips you straight back into the story. There is a quest in this book and I found that it made my heart race thinking that they would be able to get what they needed to defeat the villains of the story and let me tell you there are some villains in this story.
The book is my favourite one of the year, it is 100% a five star read from me. It had tension, magic, romance, light-heartedness, villains, heroines and heroes - but mainly heroines as well as Hope. Honestly I did not know what to do with myself once I finished this book, I could not pick up another book straight away which is what I normally do.
Massive congratulations to Lynette Noni for this outstanding finale in what I feel is an outstanding YA fantasy series. One that I will 100% go back to and reread, it will become a new comfort read for sure.
After the crushing and all-changing ending in The Gilded Cage, the series about Kiva Meridan continues. The place her sister sent her to is not unknown to Kiva, but it does bring back her most terrifying memories. The time she has to spend there is anything but pleasant, but luckily there’s someone unexpected to help her. From the moment the story starts, the tension is already there. Kiva has lost a lot and is about to lose even more. The future seems hopeless, but every now and then there’s something that chases the dark away. The author’s trigger warning at the beginning of the book is not misplaced.
When Kiva is reunited with her family and friends, things turn out to be anything but merry. No one can look at each other the same as before. These changes create a completely different atmosphere in the story. Not entirly unknown, because the seriousness, the fear and the sadness are just a part of Kiva’s story and they remain that way. Yet the author manages to potray these feelings in a different way in each book, but they seem to reach rock bottom in The Blood Traitor.
Fortunately, there is the distraction from the quest that Kiva undertakes with everyone else. There is a greater danger than they ever could have imagined, and that has everything to do with ancient magic and its secrets. With royal heirs as companions and magic at their fingertips, the group gathers enough information te devise a plan and save Evalon from destruction. But fort hat, Kiva, her friends, family and even the antagonists of the story have to make sacrifices. When all those elements come together, it becomes clear how wel Lynette Noni’s entire trilogy is put together.
The writing style is phenomenal, intense and draws the reader into every chapter, every sentence, every word. Although a second perspective could certainly have added somethign extra, it was not really necessary. The amazing forms of magic, the intrigue, personal developments and of course the well-known plot twists ensure that the story doesn’t fall short on hardly anything. The characters are also very strong. Everyone has his or her own voice, habits and secrets. Plus the developments that they go through ensures a great deal of depth. That’s why every reader can pick at least one or more favorite characters.
The Blood Traitor is a fantastic and incredibly exciting, magical and phenomenal conclusion to the Prison Healer series.
I’m not sure I can even put into words how much I loved this book and this series.
I reread The Prison Healer and The Gilded Cage before diving in but I still wasn’t ready for this.
I went in so nervous because the end of a series is hard but this book was perfect.
I won’t discuss the plot because spoilers but I’m just completely obsessed with the characters. Have there ever been a more loveable bunch?! They’re flawed and so very human and that’s what makes them so perfect.
Caldon and Tipp have my entire heart but so do they all!
I just want to immediately start the series again but my heart needs a break first.
Well, wow. I loved this.
I have to say after reading "The Prison Healer" in one go, I didn't enjoy "The Gilded Cage" very much, it was quite suffocating and maddening but it finished with the biggest clifhanger, that was quite suffocating as well, and I found myself diying to keep reading.
"The Bood Traitor" have the right balance of heartache and happy times. We embark in a quest through all the kingdoms, in seach for a way to defeat Zuleeka and Navok. we have new characters and a old one (Cresta!!) That joins in the adventure. It was great to finally meet Eidran, he is lovely but to be honest is completely expendable and I can only hope that the reason he is in this book is because we will be hearing more from him. There is some information about this world and beyond that makes an spin of of this story a possibility that I hope become a reality.
I really loved the ending I think is perfection and I fear this world and this characters will remain in my mind for a very long time.
The Prison Healer (TPH) was a 5 ⭐️ read for me, as was The Gilded Cage (TGC) - I adored both books so much, that I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit nervous going into the final book. I had so many questions - would I get the ending I wanted? What’s going to happen to my favourites? Would it be as good as I was hoping? Would it do justice to the first two books? Could we possibly get more books?
I shouldn’t have worried though as this book was just as tremendous as the first two 😍
I’m going to keep my review spoiler free so that people can enjoy this amazing book (and trilogy) for themselves but I will talk about why I loved it.
This book made me feel so much - happy, sad, shocked and infuriated, there were so many twists and turns, some expected and some definitely unexpected.
Kiva has been through so much throughout this series and after the way TGC ended, I was worried about what was to come for her. Despite what she’s been through though she is a survivor and she fights for what she believes in and for what is right. She also fights with everything she’s got for the people she loves, and I think for those reasons she is a leading lady that we can all relate to. Her bravery and determination is honest and true.
Jaren is the leading man we all want: kind, loving, genuine, brave, honourable, strong and loyal. Throw in the fact that he’s pretty kick-ass and devilishly handsome and he’s just about perfect. He is absolutely one of my favourite characters in this story and in any other book he probably would have been my absolute favourite male character but unfortunately for Jaren, Caldon exists. Caldon is hands down my favourite character and I’m certain I won’t be alone in feeling like that. I adored him pretty much from his first introduction in book two and that didn’t change reading The Blood Traitor. If anything it strengthened how much I love him. Everything about his character was *chef’s kiss* perfect 😍
The fantastic characters are what elevate this series to such a high level for me, as well as those already mentioned we have Tipp, Naari, Tor and Ashlyn but it was Cresta that I adored the most. Her no nonsense attitude and banter with everyone made me laugh so many times - she is brilliant!!
As with the first two books, the world building and story telling is fantastic. So intricate and well written. I really enjoyed getting to see more of Wenderall and the different kingdoms within it, as well as getting a brief look at their rulers. I really hope we get more books set in this world as there’s so much left to explore - the Midnight Markets in particular would make a fascinating read, I’m sure. I did at one point think that I would not be picking anything up by this author again, as she nearly did the unthinkable (when you get there, you’ll know what I mean) but she has definitely cemented herself as an auto-buy author for me!
This book, and in fact the whole series, is brilliant. A great example of why, despite not being the intended age, I love reading YA/NA fantasy. If like me you are a huge fan of magic, adversity and romance, then I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you pick up these books.
No question - 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
BOOK REVIEW: The Blood Traitor by @lynettenoni
5 Stars
Wow.
I have no words.
Lynette Noni has consistently blown my socks off and made The Prison Healer one of my all time favourite series! I have loved every single second and I am so incredibly happy with how insanely good this final installment is but also heartbroken that it has come to an end!
I am not giving away ANYTHING in this review. Just know that I loved every word and that somehow the worldbuilding, magic, storyline and characters get EVEN BETTER. Which I didn't think was possible.
These characters have my whole heart. Kiva is such a brave and caring young woman and her journey through this series but especially this book had me in tears and I rarely cry with books! I adore her! Jaren has half my heart because it is equally shared with Caldon who possibly may even get the slightly larger half. He is JUST SO FUNNY! Also if I could give any character ever a hug it would be Tipp! This book has many more new characters and more of some lesser used characters which I LOVED.
Lynette Noni's writing is as brilliant as ever and the twists and turns had me feeling dizzy, especially two HUGE plot twists that I did NOT see coming!!!
Basically. READ THIS SERIES. You will not regret it.
And to Lynette Noni - Thank you! And please can we now have an Eidran spin off as I feel this mysterious man REALLY deserves his own books!
Phew. What a series!
Please note that I was #gifted this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
