I’m really disappointed about this one. After giving the first two books five stars, I didn’t see this coming but I really disliked this book.

It felt like every single plot point had been lifted from another book. Nothing felt unique to this world at all and, while that made for a fun easy read at first, it became really boring as the book went on. I even guessed the big twist because everything in this book has not only been done before but done in exactly the same way.

I did really enjoy the new side characters. Lynette Noni does side characters and found family really well. However, I hated Jaren in this book. He was awful to Kiva for 75% of the book, made her feel awful, and then basically gaslighted her and said he had never really meant any of it. He didn’t redeem himself in my eyes and I didn’t care for the romance at all.

The new magic wasn’t particularly well explained and felt like it had been lifted from a really popular marvel plotline. And the ending genuinely made me mad. It just felt really rushed and lazy and, again, like it had been lifted from a hundred other books. There was no satisfaction at all for me upon finishing this book.

I’m really disappointed as I loved the first two books so much but this one just didn’t work for me. Maybe if you read all three books back to back and stay caught up in the magic of the first two, this would have been better, but it wasn’t for me.

I’m still eager to see what Lynette Noni does next and I hope I love it as much as I loved the first two books in this trilogy.

Oh my god what a beautiful series finale!

I cried, I laughed, I fell in love ... I loved this series.
I can't say much because being the third and final book in the series I risk spoiling the previous books... so let's focus on the style.
Lynette Noni's writing is beautiful and so are all the characters she manages to create!
The plot is also very interesting in all three books and I really liked this ending.
If you haven't done it yet ... read this series!

Thanks Netgalley and Lynette Noni for providing me with this digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

There are no words to describe just how excited I was for this book. I first started this series last year, when the first book, The Prison Healer, was featured in a Fairyloot box. I immediately fell head over heels in love with this series. It brought back my absolute love and obsession for YA Fantasy, and I have been dying to get my hands on this final instalment for months, to see how it was all going to end. I had such high expectations of this book… and it smashed each and every one clear out of the park. This book was, in a word, phenomenal!

We were left hanging from the cliffhanger of The Gilded Cage and The Blood Traitor picks up right where we left off. If there is one thing that Lynette Noni can do, it is write one hell of a cliffhanger. I was so happy to see this book picked back up immediately and I was thrown head over heels back into this world. I couldn’t read this book fast enough. I seriously couldn’t put it down. Lynette Noni is such a phenomenal author, she really grabs your attention within the first page and does not let it go until you have devoured the entire book. She did this, once again with The Blood Traitor. I was racing through pages dying to see what was going to happen to my beloved characters.

This book is one of the most emotional books I think I have ever read. Right from the start I was completely and utterly broken hearted for Kiva and the guilt and hate that she has for herself because of her actions in the previous book. She really goes through a journey in this one, and I loved each and every moment of it. I actually adore series where the female lead character is the one who does the betraying, rather than the male, because we get to see the ins and outs of their thoughts while doing the betraying… and the aftereffects. This is a major role in this book and it brought me such heartbreak… in the best possible way. This book was a journey of healing for Kiva and I adored every second.

The Blood Traitor was an absolutely perfect ending for a fantastic series. I even ended up having a new favourite character, someone who I hated in previous books. I loved that we saw all of these different sides to characters we thought we knew before. It was just such a perfect journey for everyone. No matter if it was the lead characters, or the smaller side characters, everyone came full circle and got their deserved ending. This series is one of my all time favourites. I adored every single page of all three books. It is one I will read again and again, and I really cannot praise and recommend this book enough! If you haven’t read it yet, what the hell are you waiting for? Go pick it up right now! Lynette Noni is a genius, and has sealed herself firmly on my auto-buy author list. I adore her, and cannot wait to see what she writes next (PS, please be a Prison Healer spin-off!).

The third (and final) instalment of Lynette Noni’s magnificently addictive and plot-twisty The Prison Healer series is by far her best book yet! Honestly, Noni’s exquisite world building, endearing characters and shocking twists have consistently had me on the edge of my seat (an in an emotional chokehold) for the entirety of Kiva’s journey.

I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve experienced every possible emotion in between and can honestly say that I absolutely loved every second of it!

Picking up directly after the magnificently plot twisty events of The Gilded Cage, The Blood Traitor sees Kiva still coming to terms with the events at the palace and desperate to know if Torell, Tipp, Jaren and Caldon are safe and whether Jaren and Co. Can ever forgive her. But the kingdoms are on the brink of war and Kiva—even far away from the conflict—more at risk than just her broken heart. With such a risky quest on the horizon, forcing mortal enemies and uneasy allies to work together is a race against the clock to save (not just Evalon but the entirety of Wenderall).

But with danger striking from all angles, and the lives of everyone she cares about on the line, does she have what it takes to stand, or will she fall?

Once again, Lynette Noni’s world building is utter perfection, as was the detailed, nuanced and well developed characters—both old faves and new—that I found so incredibly endearing. Kiva really cannot catch a break and goes through ALOT in the first half of the book, but her growth as a character was phenomenal (I know I’ve said this about every book in the series, but it’s true) and I did find myself crying on more than once whilst reading her scenes so, if you’re an emotional reader (like me) do keep some tissues handy, you’re gonna need them.

I really enjoyed seeing Cresta again (the Zalindov rebel from The Prison Healer) and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked her. I didn’t particularly like her in the first book and hearing about her own life and how she ended up in Zalindov really brought to light a side of her I didn’t know existed. She also plays a rather big role too which I absolutely loved.

We are also introduced to Caldon’s Sister Ashlyn (General of Evalon’s army), who gets a brief mention in The Gilded Cage, and the strained relationship dynamic between her and the usually chipper Caldon was really interesting to watch unfold.

But it’s the relationship between Kiva and Jaren that experiences the most upheaval as Jaren still feels hurt by Kiva’s betrayal (and lies) but it’s made quite clear—to everyone but Kiva—that he’s still in love with her. They do eventually work through it, in dramatic fashion I might add but I enjoyed every second of it.

Honestly after two incredibly plot twisty books that led me on an emotional rollercoaster, I didn’t think anything could surprise me this time around, but the shocking twists just keep coming and I absolutely loved it! It’s Noni’s best book by far and I’m still in awe of her skill in crafting soo many plot twists I didn’t see coming, at this point it must be her superpower!

I urge everyone who’s read The Prison Healer and The Gilded Cage to go give this a read—and if you haven’t done so what are you waiting for? If you love YA fantasy, strong female protagonists or Sarah J. Maas worthy plot twists then you’re going to absolutely love this series.

Thanks to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for the e-arc.

Einfach genial!

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc!

The Prison Healer series has been a phenomenal ride from start to finish. There was never a dull moment. It is such an underrated series that deserves more hype and recognition. I absolutely devoured The Blood Traitor as soon as I got my hands on it! Also, that cover? Isn't it so stunning?

So many things were happening in the final instalment that I couldn't put it down. There was always something going on, an adventure or two to embark on that kept me on the edge of my seat. My favourite character is definitely Caldon, ugh I love him with my whole heart. He brought the wit and humour wherever he was. And I especially loved his friendship with Kiva.

Cresta was also a very pleasant surprise. I adored her character so much. She made me laugh throughout the whole book! Her presence was very much needed and I'm glad we got to see her growth and development.

My only criticism is that I would have loved to see Kiva being more bold and using her own independence. The author made it a bit of a habit to throw Kiva into a scary situation where she was hurt to gain some sort of feeling from Jaren. It was repetitive and I know that their relationship could have been mended in a better way. Kiva was also usually depicted as a lost puppy who was indecisive about her feelings and her powers. I do wish she was a little more fierce and didn't need to hold anyone's hand to be her own person.

Thank you to the publisher for letting me read via Netgalley.

My favourite part of this book was the conclusion, the ending is just super satisfying and I feel like fans of the series will be happy with where it leaves off. A strong runner up is Kiva's "Happy Kitty!" moment 🐱.

The main chunk of this book is the quest, which I enjoyed initially however the task is quite repetitive and I felt it took too much of the story to get back to faceing the big bad, which then was over rather quickly.

Character wise loved Caldon just being Caldon, Cresta was a surprising highlight and probably my favourite by the end.

Overall I would give 3.5/5🌟, I just didn't love this one as much as the previous 2.

4,5 stars.

So, that was a real rollercoaster. Reading this book, I went through so, so much.

Anyway.

I love the writing, I think Lynette improves with each book and this one really won my heart. It was much much wittier, funnier and somber than the other two.

Even as an i-don’t-mind-reading-trauma person, Kiva’s trauma kind of shook me. Consider this a sign to check trigger warnings before reading the novel.
Kiva’s journey with herself and everyone else is such a powerful opportunity to show all kinds of character development, and I am so proud of Lynette for actually doing this so well.

Look, I loved Carlon before, but in this.. he reaches another level of charming. His characterisation here makes you want to hug him until you break his bones. In a friendly way.

The plot was interesting all throughout, the pacing worked well for me, and I think everything was wrapped up perfectly.

Thanks to the author and the publisher for an early copy of the novel in exchange for my honest review. Very appreciated!

When I read The Prison Healer last April, I was instantly hooked and devoured the whole book in one day! The same happened for The Gilded Cage and my love for the characters and this world grew even more when reading that one! I was then eagerly anticipating the last book which I finally got to read last week and I LOVED IT!
Lynette absolutely put me and my emotions through it in The Blood Traitor with an epic quest putting the gang in many a tough situation that had me so stressed!
I laughed, I cried (sobbed actually) and I loved every moment! Such an amazing ending to one of my now favourite trilogies ever!!
If you haven't started these books yet, please go pick it up so you're prepared for The Blood Traitor coming out June 14th, you won't regret it!

TW; substance use and addiction, death

Thank you NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

As a fan of The Prison Healer world, especially after the fantastic second book in the series, I was excited for this final installment. And whilst I walk away happy to have a conclusion to this world that was enjoyable, action-packed, and resolved the biggest issues laid out for Kiva and her loved ones, I was a little disappointed by how some things went.

But first, I have to share my admiration for the characters in this last book. We get the return of a Zalindov inmate, who quickly became one of my favourites in this world. I loved every moment when this character was on the page, and the way they interacted with the others and played a vital role in the storyline was wonderful. I said in my first review of this world that I loved Noni's characters, and this has remained my favourite thing about this author. Regardless of what is going on, her characters are likable, relatable, and feel real.

This book has a lot going on from the first page. The pacing isn't like how it was in the first two, where things took time to build up and navigate. And you could say that The Blood Traitor is the culmination of what has been brewing all along, but it did feel like the author put 'all the things' into this one book and the fast-paced nature of all the revelations, the additional villains, new obstacles and quest, and the overall amount of things to fight for, felt a little too overwhelming. I knew some things would get glossed over in the end because so much had been introduced or announced in this final story, and whilst I feel Noni did well to wrap things up, it did leave the storyline a little chaotic and dicey at times.

I warred with my own feelings over the angstier elements. On one hand, this is a YA novel, and while the reactions Kiva had in her "woe-is-me, everything is doomed" moments match well with a YA setting, it got pretty old quickly. The fact that this tension felt never-ending, was repetitive and wasn't resolved for 2/3 of the book at least got exhausting. It weakened some of the happenings/plotline, which could have been better spent easing out some of the mentioned pacing issues.

That said, this novel showed the big climactic ending I expected from everything that led to this point. The found-family aspect was even better this time around, and I loved those moments most. We also see the most romantic action this series has had in this novel, which was well worth the wait. And Caldon remained to the very end my favourite person born out of this world. Even if I had a moment there - no spoilers why - where I lost all trust in this author.

I think if you've enjoyed this series, you'll love this final story as long as you're prepared for a lot to be thrown at you. I am happy to have received this before my signed copy arrives, and I'm looking forward to following this talented author's future works.

I wanted to love "The Blood Traitor" because I quite enjoyed the first two parts in the series, and was hoping for a great finale, but this novel didn't quite work for me:
some of the twists were obvious from the start, the fake-out towards the end of the novel had me rolling my eyes, and the way the characters' relationships were mended felt somewhat rushed, unrealistic, and way too saccharine for my tastes.

The ending was also way too neat to fit the story.

After the ending of The Gilded Cage I really was torn over whether or not to start this. I was desperate to find out what happened to Kiva, but I worried whether this could possibly live up to my expectations. I’m pleased to report that this really is a phenomenal end to the series, and - yet again - I shall be urging people to read this.
This time round we focus on Kiva and the part she plays in trying to restore the wrongs that have been taking place. Relationships are key to this novel, and while I hoped throughout that everything would resolve in the way I dreamed, it wasn’t clear cut. Nobody is quite as they seem, and there’s some seriously unexpected revelations that make so much sense once they come but which sneak upon us as we’re focusing on other matters.
Integral to the plot is a quest…and it’s a good one. Tension aplenty, risks and adventure but also the opportunity for key threads from the previous books to be addressed.
Once I’d started and got back into the world Kiva inhabits, it was incredibly difficult to put the book down. From start to finish I was desperate to see how certain elements would unfold, and though I knew the ending would be bittersweet it honestly felt as if no stone was left unturned and Evalon/Winderall would be in safe hands.
Huge thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this prior to publication, and now to wait until it’s launched into the world and I can talk to others about it!

Wow

This series has been a consistent five stars, and this conclusion is unmatched. Non stop pulse pounding action with the characters I adore still reeling from the conclusion of the second book, The Blood Traitor is everything I hoped for and more. All fantasy lovers should pick up this brilliant series!

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Such a perfect and satisfying ending to such a brilliant series. I really went on an emotional roller coaster with trilogy. The plot of all books was so unique and I was throughly enthralled throughout. There were so many amazing and unexpected twists and turns that kept me on edge throughout, the world building was intricate and distinctive, the magic system was simple to understand yet imaginative and I was utterly entertained and fascinated by the main and side characters (Tipp and Caldon own my heart). Overall this was a flawless fantasy series with an impeccable conclusion

I know we shouldn't judge books by their cover, but once again a fantastic job on the cover.

This is the third installment of the prison healer trilogy and by now everything has been out in place. Book 2 ended on such a cliffhanger and this book doves straight back in. Cresta makes a reappearance and develops most throughout the story. Kiva isn't actually in prison for long and I suppose the whole leaving prison seems a little dull. I'm pretty certain given some of the nasty elements of life in Zalindov which were explored in book 1, that Kiva would have fallen victim to the guards a lot sooner. Either way, there are some nice twists and turns, I did guess the trade off thing but the introduction of Ashlyn was a pleasant surprise.

The pace has always been a little slower than I'd have liked, it is consistent with all three books, but there is enough going on to keep you interested. There is still a love element and as with the trials by ordeal, I think the ring adventure could have been more dramatic. The characters are still very likeable though and the author knows how to build a villain.

Overall a pleasing trilogy.

I have no idea where to even begin...
The Blood Traitor begins exactly where The Gilded Cage ends and in an unlikely turn of events Cresta (who we meet in The Prison Healer) becomes one of my all time favourite characters. I genuinely hated her character in The Prison Healer but from the moment this book begins she is right there and is a completely different person.

When I was reading scenes about Jaren and Kiva my heart hurt, I had chest pains from so many emotions. I laughed, I cried and I loved all throughout their reunions and their hostilities. I dare anyone to find two characters who belong together more than these two.

Caldon... Will you just be a real person please? I think everyone deserves to have their own Caldon in their lives. And yes, I spent far too long crying at a certain scene. Lynette Noni, what did you do to me?

I thought the twists and turns throughout the first two books would have prepared me but nope I didn't see half of what happened coming and it hit me like a freight train.
I loved the world building, the character development (both old and new characters) and also the pure emotion that this book invoked.

Overall, The Blood Traitor by Lynette Noni is a 5 star read from me. This trilogy is definitely in my top 3 favourite book series.

This review will be available on my blog in the next couple of weeks: www.teaandfairytales.co.uk

I loved this book, it was well written, had a fantastic storyline and well developed characters that I loved. This book follows on seamlessly from the previous book and I didn't feel like I had to reread the previous book to catch up, it literally felt like I read it and then picked this one up.
I loved it.

Back with Kiva and after the events of The Gilded Cage, I wondered where this book was going to take us......

Firstly, I have to get this off my chest: There was a quest! A quest! An absolutely perfect quest! Now let's get back to it!

'She was on her own, just the way it should be. She’d earned that, the suffering, the pain.'

Oh and Kiva did suffer but found a couple of unexpected allies! And I couldn't be happier!

I can't really say anything without spoiling so the plot is totally off limits here but know this, you won't be disappointed!

Kiva, Jaren, Caldon, Tipp and co stole my heart over and over again. Honestly I adored every character in this series (apart from the baddies!) and there's not many series you can say that about!

This was superb! Just like the first 2 books, this was top notch, there's not a thing I didn't enjoy!

It was everything I wanted, action, drama,
shocks, revelations where my jaw dropped, heartbreak, heart warming moments and all tied up in a neat little bow. Fabulous conclusion!

'Now, we dream.'
