This was a tough read. It was slow with a lot of tangents and things that had nothing to do with the main plot. The characters were annoying and acting in questionable ways that just didn't add up. This story has great potential but it needs a lot of help.
Wow! This book was absolutely thrilling! I’m not gonna be able to get this one out of my head for a while.
Real estate agent Hanna volunteers to do a favor for her flighty friend Adele. All she has to do is say she had a showing at Three Albert Place, a showing Adele missed. It sounds easy. It’s not. You see, a woman’s body is found in a bedroom in the condo Hanna was supposedly showing. That would have been hard to miss, if she had been there. When the police question her, Hanna begins a series of lies that will lead her into a convoluted mystery, threaten her job and almost cost her her life.
I would have liked Three Albert Place more if Hanna herself had been more likable. Her lies were unnecessary and fairly obvious. She couldn’t remember how many times she had a showing at that address? Check your appointment diary. You can’t find it? Then you drop it in water and hide it in the oven? Really? And then there’s a totally unnecessary subplot about stalking a former boyfriend? And when that boyfriend’s thirteen year old daughter, who never liked Hanna, gets pregnant, who does she go to for advice? And what’s with the boyfriend who works in Saudi Arabia?
The premise of Three Albert Place is a strong one. The book would benefit from better editing with tighter characterization, work to make Hanna appear to be more a victim of a friend’s bad judgement and therefore more appealing and removing the distracting subplots. The police investigator would be a better love interest than any of the other random men. I did like the upstairs neighbor. 3 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Matador and M.S. Clary for this ARC.
Three Albert terrace by M.S. Clary.
Hanna a small town estate agent is faced with a moral dilemma.
Really enjoyable read. Loved Hanna. Read in one sitting. 5*.
Thank you NetGalley, Matador and M.S. Clary for letting me read “Three Albert Terrace” in exchange for an honest review.
I have no other words than “what an utter bore”. I was struggling all the time and came close to just giving up.
The story had a lot of potential. I think the editing did it no Gabor. Paragraphs skipped made it seem like the author hopped randomly from one thought to the other whilst I am pretty sure this was unintended. I think it took me six chapters until I was certain that our heroine was called Hanna…
So Hanna works in real estate. There is a loooot of real estate talk there. She works with Adele for their boss Charlie. Adele is struggling and Hanna ends up covering for one of Adele’s missed appointments. Unfortunately the police gets involved, they found a dead body in one of the houses Adele takes care of. Ok so far so good… Hanna lies to the police that Adele has not been there but she has been, which was not true. Adele on the other hand had an affair and gave away the key to the house without permission. Does not end there, Adele goes missing and ends up dead.
The story did not go anywhere. Just visiting houses, real estate this, real estate that. Riverside house blah blah blah. Then Hanna ends up stalking the current girlfriend of her ex?! It all made no sense to me. So did some speed reading in the end, I could not deal with this anymore.
I am really sorry, but this was a miss. The writing bored me to tears. :(
