This is a gorgeous story that has had so much thought and attention to the plot making it heart breakingly beautiful. Highly recommend!
I loved this book it was a quick and easy read and gave me all the feels. I loved the relationships in the book - not just the romatic ones and I took the characters to my heart.
This is a story of love going wrong for several ,of the book’s characters. The main character is Wren, an architect, from Bury St Edmunds where she lives with her divorced mother. Wren is engaged then her fiancé breaks it off. She decides to holiday in Indiana with her father, stepmother and half sister. Of course, she finds someone else to fall in love with but he has a secret. That secret gives an intriguing aspect to the story because it is hard to guess how the affair will work out. Given the title, it might be assumed that all will go wrong again. This is an easy read and I recommend it.
This was the first book I have read by Paige Toon and what a fabulous read it was! It’s such a beautiful love story.
Wren heads to Indianapolis following her breakup with her fiancé to stay with her estranged father. Her heart starts healing again when she meets Anders, one of the sons of the farmer next door. However Anders is still dealing with the loss of his wife. Their love story is a complicated one, so be prepared to shed a few tears!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK, Cornerstone, Penguin for the opportunity to read and review this heart-wrenching story.
This book did not disappoint at all. I was hooked from the first page. It’s rare to love absolutely every character in a book but this was achieved during this read- except for one character which you definitely were not meant to like 😅
As usual, the descriptions of the settings of the book were perfect and you could really imagine the places where the story was unfolding. Paige is the absolute queen of the emotional rollercoaster of a love story and did not differ from her specialism here- I was so emotionally invested from start to finish 🥹 I thought the twist was very clever and well written but equally heartbreaking.
I loved how it didn’t just explore romantic relationships, but also the relationships between children and their parents, siblings and blended families. Everything had been thought about and it wasn’t too much to process.
Paige Toon, take a bow, you have done it once again. I will definitely be purchasing this one when it comes out as I also adore the cover of it that’s been released 😍
I was so excited to get hold of this one, it didn’t disappoint in any way at all. I took my time with it, it was heartbreaking yet beautiful with every chapter. Paige writes with sincerity and sensitivity with the emotional storyline and I loved it. Would definitely recommend
This is a fabulous read with great characters and a great storyline.
Wren is at a crossroads in her life where she is no longer with he fiancé and her dad living in America who she has rarely seen. She goes to visit for a break and a love story emerges. Real page turner love all of Paige Toons books 5 ⭐️
This was the first book I read by Paige Toon but it will definitely not be my last. Not only is the writing beautiful and very easy to get into, she also has a way to make you fall for her characters in a heartbeat! It was also very easy for me to picture the farm life and - I’m not gonna lie - I’m ready to move out and live in a peach orchard! What delighted me the most is that I didn’t see the plot twist coming and it’s not often that I am completely surprised by a romance novel these days. The only thing that knocks this down half a star is that everything fell into place a little bit too easily at the end. But still 4.5 stars and I for sure will get a copy once this comes out in April 2023!

4 shining stars!!!!
A poignant story about heartbreak, soul-searching, broken families, and ardent love!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this wonderful book. This was my first Paige Toon book and I will definitely be picking up more! It felt like I was reading a cross of Colleen Hoover and Nicholas Sparks. I would absolutely love to see a movie adaptation of this story.
Paige Toon writes beautifully and her words tug at all your heartstrings. All the characters were a beautiful kaleidoscope of emotions, complexities, depth, and personality. I didn't even realize when I fell in love with the characters and I found myself secretly rooting for all of them. I love stories that take place at farms and the vivid scenic descriptions made me feel like I was actually inside the story.
Wren is a talented architect living in a small town in the UK. The story begins when Wren packs her bags and goes to America to nurse her broken heart after her breakup with her fiancé. Wren parents divorced a long time ago but Wren never really got over it. However, when she reaches her dad's farm near Indianapolis, she is pleasantly surprised at how well she gets along with her father, step-mon, and step-sister. Her heart starts healing again when she meets Anders and his brother Jonas, the sons of the farmer next door! Wren along with her half-sister spend a large part of Summer and Fall hanging out with the boys. Wren finds herself falling for Anders but Anders also is heartbroken after losing his wife. As their love blooms despite their efforts to stay away, complications arise that Wren couldn't even imagine.
What is Anders hiding? Will Wren's love story end before it even starts? Read to find out how Wren comes to term with her own feelings about her broken family and her broken heart.

PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT! There is something about a Paige Toon book that really connects with your soul. The story of Anders and Wren is a complicated one with more than a few twists. I defy you not to have the widest smile and cry ugly tears whilst reading this.
First off, you sang the song when you saw the book title didn’t you? How can you not?! 😂
Do you know how excited I was that I managed to get my hands on Paige’s new book before it came out? Honestly I was soooo happy! But I’ll tell you guys now, it’ll be worth the wait I promise! As always, it’s another 5 star read from Paige that will pull on your heartstrings and make your heart feel so full! ❤️
When Wren’s fiancé tells her he is in love with someone else, she realises she needs to get away to let her heart recover. Anders, living on the other side of the world is still struggling to move on after losing his wife 4 years ago. While Wren is staying with her dad and step family in Indiana, she meets sanders and both their worlds are turned upside down. There are secrets that can have serious fall outs and heart ache this summer, can Wren walk away when it’ll hurt so bad, but when she finds out the truth, how can she stay?
I couldn’t put this one down. I became so invested in not only Wren and Anders, but the side characters too, I loved Bailey and Jonas and loved seeing their characters develop too! It was a slow burn, and I loved it! It gave me more time to fall in love with the setting and the characters and their back stories.
Paige has such a way to write a beautiful love story that will also pull on your heartstrings and tear you apart at the same time…in a good way of course! 😂 It has love, loss, family drama, friendships, sisterly bond, beautiful settings and of course, incredible characters. Another beautiful book from Paige Toon 💕
I forgot home much I loved books by Paige Toone … this is a great love story which I devoured . Wren is heart broken when her fiancé tells her he has fallen in love with someone else … alone and confused she decides to go on holiday to see her father and his wife in the US… what follows is an emotional rollercoaster . I loved this book the characters the descriptions of the surroundings making the reader feel like they were right there with the characters .
Thank you @netgalley for the advanced copy and chance to read this highly anticipated book!
After a heartbreaking split from her fiancé, Wren decides to take a holiday to visit her dad and his family in the US, in a bid to avoid seeing her now ex around town with his new girlfriend. While staying at the family farm, Wren reconnects with her step-mum, half sister and dad, repairing relationships that have long been strained and damaged while also making new friends in the family at the neighbouring farm.
I don't want to say too much about this as I don't think I can without including big spoilers! As with all of Paige's books, this isn't just a straightforward romantic fiction. It covers all aspects of relationships - friendships, family dynamics, love and loss.
My only criticism is that I felt that the “obstacle” was overcome too conveniently and easily in the end to be believable. However, I still really enjoyed this book and I cried reading it. Paige definitely has a way of evoking emotion in her beautiful writing style with a cast of characters you'll fall in love with.
Only Love Can Hurt Like This will be released in Spring 2023
Only Love Can Hurt Like This
A much anticipated new story from the marvellous Paige Toon. Wren has just come to the shocking realisation that her fiancé is in love with someone else. So to heal her broken heart she runs to stay with her Dad in America. Wren’s Dad and Step Mum have recently taken on a farm just outside of Indiana, and Wren is more than happy to help out and take her mind off things. Her half sister Bailey is on board to help distract her by taking her out to Dirk’s bar where Wren finds herself very distracted indeed by Anders…who isn’t everything he seems. I loved this story so much. The lovely setting of fall in Indiana, the descriptions of the beautiful buildings, the farm, the characters - particularly Jonas and Anders. It was a beautiful and heart wrenching story with a twist I did not see coming. If you love Paige’s books, if you love contemporary romance - you’ll love this. It’s not my favourite of Paige’s books - but it is most definitely way up there & I highly recommend it.
Slightly to saccharine, slightly too predictable. A simple story line and characters I just didn’t gel with. I’ll try others by this author as there are so many excellent reviews, this one just wasn’t for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This is a beautiful love story- very of the trope with no particular surprises but with wonderful characters and a beautiful setting that draws the reader in to the whole long summer of will they won't they!
ultimate escapism from the drizzle to the languid sunshine!
This is not the usual kind of book that I enjoy reading. The story line was quite light and chick lit which doesn't appeal to me but would be a great beach read or engrossing story line for readers who prefer this style.
I have read every single one of Paige Toon’s books and been a fan for years; I can safely say this is another classic from her, written in exactly the style you come to know and love from her!
The plot was good, the characters and plot line were relatable in many ways but also excitingly exotic: I personally enjoyed a twist to her previous antipodean setting choices (as good as they are!), where we visit America through the characters in this book.
As always with a Paige Toon novel, there were plenty of heavy descriptions that I personally find help to set the scene and describe places with clarity, incase you may not have been there before. I don’t find this superfluous, instead I think it adds more and helps you to live through the protagonist.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this novel ahead of publication- I highly recommend this book!
I really enjoyed this book. I much prefer non-predictable romance books, and this book certainly wasn’t predictable. I loved the characters and their depth. I really liked the family relationships and the struggles with split families and how then came together as well as the romantic relationships.
I would have liked to see more of Jones’s relationship. I thought he was such an interesting character and it seemed a bit rushed at the end.
Compulsive reading.
Breaking off her engagement when her fiancé admits he's fallen in love with another woman, Wren knows she'll constantly bump into him every day and decides to visit her father in America. Staying at her father's farm in Indiana she hopes to regain her confidence and get to know him and his family. Soon after her arrival a tornado approaches and they take shelter in the neighbours’ underground bunker where she meets Peggy and Patrik with their troubled sons, Jonas and Anders. Jonas lives at home running the family farm, his ideas to diversify and improve the farm are constantly opposed by his father who refuses to accept any changes. Wren finds herself drawn to the heartbroken Anders who's still mourning the loss of his wife four years ago.
A compelling and addictive story, thoroughly recommended.
