This book has everything I want from a good book. There are really well written characters that you feel attached to. Beautifully described settings so your mind can make the words spring to life for you. A sometimes sad, sometimes mysterious, a little bit twisty but mostly a very happy storyline which left me in a very happy place as I turned the last page.

There were times when I was worried where Wren and Anders were going to end up but the way their story ended left me satisfied that each character had been true to themselves and reached where they were meant to be.

It's been great to read another book by Paige Toon and be reminded of why I have enjoyed so many of her others in the past.

Such a fitting title for a very emotional and fulfilling read. Wren was a great lead character, very relatable and engaging. I loved how her trip to escape a breakup led to her forming stronger, lasting connections with her father, sister Bailey and step mum Sheryl. The two sisters properly bonding and getting to know each other was lovely. Wren’s friendship with Jonah was a highlight as well.

As for Wren and Anders, I loved everything about them. The build up was slow and handled so well especially once you fully understood Anders’ backstory. The genuine and real friendship that developed between Wren and Anders alongside that underlying tension and pull between them was just so so good. It was painful, funny, heartbreaking, heartwarming and so enjoyable to watch how things played out between them. Paige Toon does not disappoint. A cracking read (5 ⭐️)

Only Love Can Hurt Like This is the romance novel we all need in our lives. A book to curl up with when it's a grey and miserable day outside.
Wren's fiance loves another, so she leaves hoping to heal her broken heart in America.
She meets Anders who on the outside, is completely uninterested in Wren. Until Wren starts to work on her dad's farm.
Slowly, Wren and Anders' love story plays out on the pages, leaving the reader rooting for them.
Well-written, with believable characters and I didn't want it to end.

Everything about a paige toon book is like a warm hug, they’re so comforting to me which is exactly why she’s one of my favourite authors. This book was no exception to that, I loved every page of this! I loved the small town farm setting and seeing Wren reconnecting with her Dad and step sister/mother after years of her feeling like she was an outsider in that half of her family. I also really loved Anders, there’s just something about a man written by paige toon!
This book is an emotional rollercoaster with a twist i definitely did not see coming but paige really made me fall in love with these characters and I was rooting for them right until the very end!

Only Love Can Hurt Like This by @paigetoonauthor a NetGalley read. Wren had just had her heartbroken by her very nearly husband and the last thing she is looking for is Love. Wren lives in the same place as her ex so escapes to America where her Dad and Step Mum live. Also in America is Anders who lost his wife 4 years ago and I’m struggling to move on.
WOW, WOW, WOW! This book is published on the 27th April 2023 and all I can say is pre order now! I loved this book, it was so much more than I thought it would be, there’s a huge twist, as nothing is as it seems. I’m a fan of this author already, normally taking her books on holiday with me and I must admit I have a few of this authors books on my TBR pile! This is more than a romantic story, it’s about moving on from past hurts, weather that’s from a romantic relationship or in Wren’s case, her father leaving and not feeling part of her fathers new family, always feeling like a visitor. Its about mental health problems and family expectations, it’s about personal growth and finding the best you and it’s about letting go. Wren and Anders are the two main characters but this book has a host of loveable characters with there own story and of whom play huge parts in the bigger story. This book has the biggest heart and at times this story takes over and you forget you are reading a work of fiction and that’s testament to the talent of the author because again with this book she hits it out of the park and undoubtably has a huge hit of a book in front of her. This book will make you feel every emotion, anger, frustration, it will make you laugh, sigh, you will want to scream out laugh and without a doubt have you holding your heart and reaching for the tissues. It’s a will they won’t they story about two people hurting, at no point is this book predictable, every part is so enjoyable and the best book I’ve read this year. It’s being released at the perfect time of year as once again a perfect read for the summer. I will without question be recommending this book to everyone and without doubt this book is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am a huge Paige toon fan, having read all of her previous books, so when I was given the chance to read only love can hurt like this I was so excited!

Overall I think that this was a great book, the writing was wonderful and I was kept on my toes by the plot twist, however I did feel that the pacing of the book was a little odd. With the time jumping between Anders visits I struggled to realistically see how Wren and he developed such strong feelings for eachother over that time period..

I did love how healthy relationships developed over the course of the book especially between Wren and her ex as well as her family. But I was occasionally irritated by her seemingly out of the blue thoughts about her sister potentially cheating, I don't think it was relevant or necessary to the story.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another warm and wonderful romance from Paige Toon. Her trademark tugging of the heartstrings is even stronger in this story than any other of hers I've read, for the dilemma facing heroine Wren's love interest Anders is not that he won't commit, but that he can't commit to her or any other woman until he recovers from the loss of his wife Lauren in a tragic accident four years before.
Wren is nursing her own broken heart, and also feels a bit of an outsider in her dad's second family, whom she is visiting in Indianapolis. It all adds to the pathos.
But there are plenty of heart-warming moments here, too, as Wren finds her place amongst the local community and builds a warm relationship with her half-sister Bailey. The action immerses the reader in a totally different way of life, as Wren helps out on the family's fruit-picking farm, restores an old Airstream caravan she finds hidden under some tarpaulin and grows every closer to Anders and his brother Jonas - another man with love problems.
Will either brother find the strength to break free from his past? Or should Lauren admit defeat and walk away, back to her lonely life in Bury St Edmunds?
With lovely, empathetic characters, a strong plot and a deeply emotive issue at its heart, this is a superb romance.

Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paige Toon is a beautifully written and emotional novel about love, loss, and second chances. Set in London and the idyllic countryside of Devon, the story follows the lives of three very different characters whose lives become entwined in unexpected ways.

The first character is Bridget, a successful career woman who has always put her job first. But when she is unexpectedly fired, she finds herself at a crossroads in her life and decides to return to her childhood home in Devon. There, she reconnects with her first love, Jack, who still lives in the area and works at a local vineyard.

The second character is Phoebe, a young woman who has always struggled with her weight and self-esteem. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer, but her lack of confidence holds her back. When she meets Jack, she is immediately drawn to him, but she knows that Bridget is also interested in him.

The third character is Charlie, Jack's teenage daughter, who is dealing with her own issues. She feels invisible and ignored by her father, and she is struggling to come to terms with her mother's death.

As the story unfolds, the three characters' lives become increasingly intertwined, and they are forced to confront their pasts and their futures. Toon's writing is both poignant and uplifting, and she handles the difficult subject matter with sensitivity and grace. The characters are well-drawn and relatable, and readers will find themselves rooting for them to find happiness and fulfillment.

Overall, Only Love Can Hurt Like This is a moving and memorable novel that explores the power of love, forgiveness, and second chances. It is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and women's fiction.

This is my first book by Paige Toon, and while I enjoyed it I didn’t totally love it, I couldn’t get totally invested in the characters for some reason but I enjoyed the twist at the end and il seek out some of Paige’s other books and give them a try.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this early copy.

From start to finish I could not put this book down. I really really loved it. You can truly connect with nearly all the characters because it’s so well written.I would have loved to hear a bit more of anders and Jonas point of view

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one! Paige Toon is an auto buy author for me so to say I was ecstatic to get access to this on @netgalley is an understatement!

As expected this is another wonderful book from Paige. We explore the developing story between Wren and Anders who are both dealing with their own issues from previous relationships. In Wren’s case, a broken-off engagement and in Anders’s, the terrible loss of his wife. Both of them are nowhere near ready for another relationship… but things are never that simple.

I also fell in love with many of the other characters in this book and I’m praying for further crossovers 🤞🤞

This was an easy read for me and I flew through it. However, as the story progressed it did become emotionally heavier and hard to read at times. There is also a hand on mouth shock moment that I didn’t see coming (which I LOVE). If you’re a fan of her previous books, this will not disappoint.

@paigetoonauthor continues to surprise me and I am here for it. Always.

*thanks to NetGalley for access to this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

It’s like a knife that cuts right to my soul….

Paige Toon is an author that can do no wrong in my eyes. This is an author who delivers time and time again. Toon also gets better with every book. Only Love Can Hurt Like This is a book that has shattered every part of my heart. Toon has taken the sledgehammer (pen) and broken my heart only to slowly put piece by piece back together.

This was instantly a must for my TBR-

1. Because Paige Toon is the author

2. The title is also the name of my favourite song by my favourite female artist.

And oh wow am I thankful to have received an early copy of this one. This is a book I will be encouraging everyone to read because it’s just such a beautiful, emotive masterpiece.

Must’ve been a deadly kiss
Only love can hurt like this

Anders and Wren are just gorgeous characters. I have loved them from the beginning of this book. As a reader and female, I instantly felt for Wren. As we see her engagement end, it’s easy to relate to that lost feeling.

This really begins to move as Wren decides to get away to visit her dad. This is definitely a healing process and what better way than to put distance between you and an ex?

We meet Anders at a bar. Toon has given me country style vibes and I’ve been here for it completely. The initial interaction between Wren and Anders is hilarious- I have laughed out loud.

From here, the relationship just grows and it’s endearing and heartwarming. I have loved the journey as the relationship has grown and developed. This is one that has been a wonderful rollercoaster of adventures.

The side characters are equally as wonderful in this book. Bailey and Jonas are fun and the perfect siblings to our main protagonists. I love that we are transported by this one. Toon has definitely given me a welcome escape.

However, in true Toon style- things aren’t as smooth as they seem. Anders has secrets which will turn the emotions of the reader completely upside down. I’m not even a little bit ashamed to say that I’ve had tears streaming and Paige has caused ugly crying.

But it’s the sweetest pain
Burnin’ hot through my veins
Love is torture, makes me more sure
Only love can hurt like this

I’ve read most of Toon’s books, the ones I haven’t are proudly on my QUEENS of fiction shelf. Toon is for me, a must read author. Only Love Can Hurt Like This is quite possibly my favourite book yet.

Sometimes a book comes along and touches your heart, this is one of those books. I have loved how invested I became in this book. My heart has been on a journey that I would repeat a million times over.

There is nothing negative I can say about this book. From beginning to end, this is a gem. Toon has created a beautiful masterpiece worthy of the highest praise and all the stars. If I had one wish, it would be to experience this as a first read all over again because it is truly magnificent.

An absolute must for the TBR. I cannot recommend this more highly.

Another amazing story from Paige! With a total twist that I really didn't expect but I totally loved. Beautiful but moving story of the pain and anguish that anders went through with his love for two women and trying to remain loyal to his wife whilst wren was trying to get over her own heartache

Only Love can hurt like this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ @paigetoonauthor

You will all know I'm a huge Paige Toon fan by now so I was so excited when I got the chance to read this her new book before publication, especially when it was already on PreOrder.

Wren goes to visit her Dad in the USA after her breakup from fiance Scott.
What she doesn't expect is to meet Anders, who lost his wife four years ago and has a few hidden secrets of his own, whilst also trying to be there for his brother Anders.

The Description was a love story with a earth shattering secret at its core and that sums it up, I felt this book has to be one of Paiges most moving books yet and really gets to the depths of the charcters feelings. You really get to experience the raw emotions like never before, which aren't just focused around love and heartache but also family emotions including focusing on the relationships of step mother and half sisters. Which can be very emotional at times too.

You won't be disappointed with this book but you may need your tissues at hand.

You can also read this book from 27th April 2023!

I would like to thank @paigetoonauthor @penguinrandomhouse @netgalley for giving me the chance to read this book pre publication

A great, well written read that held my interest throughout, sad and a few lol moments along the way. All the characters were interesting each with their own story to tell.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
