Based on the summary of The Hunted I was excited and I felt this is exactly the type of book I love. Unfortunately by the time I was finished I was left wanting so much more from the fun premise.

What I thought I was getting was a group of old friends that have a lot of secrets that can really mess with each other's lives. What I got was a couple of secrets and a prank that went wrong, which was not a secret.

Even if I put that aside, my biggest issue with the book was I really wasn’t rooting for anyone. With the exception of maybe one of them, none of the characters were really all that likable.

There was some suspense and some thrilling moments but there were a lot of boring scenes between characters that ultimately weren’t needed. It’s really a shame because when things got fast pace and the killer was around the writing was excellent.

I also found myself waiting for a twist that never came. From the opening chapter when the “American woman” looked familiar it was obvious who would be out for blood when the women all started to tell their stories later on.

I really did enjoy the faster pace scenes and the writing that came along with it so I do want to check out another book by P.R. Black and I am looking forward to it. Unfortunately The Hunted was a miss for me.

A group of friends + an isolated Scottish island = a girl’s weekend gone wrong.

A group of friends get together for a weekend away. It is a chance to reconnect, to kept up on old times and to fill each other in on what has occurred in their lives since they last saw each other. Sounds like a wonderful time to me. Except these friends have secrets!

I immediately was drawn to this book with its trapped feeling of being on an island when things start to go wrong. It sounded right up my alley, and the later part of the book was just that. But the beginning of the book was SLOW. I struggled with getting into this book but kept going based on the glowing reviews I read. The first 50% was too slow for me, but then things began to ramp up and the last half of the book was where the magic, or shall I say, mayhem happens. Things go from bad to worse.

This was my first book by P.R. Black, and I would happily read another book by this author. I just wish the beginning of the book worked more for me. I struggle with getting into slower burn beginnings and this was the case here.

Others enjoyed this book more than I did, so please read their reviews as well. I also listened to the audiobook and always wonder if I would have enjoyed the book more had I read it and not listened to it. But at the same time, I can't fault the audiobook as I enjoyed the narration. I believe this is a case that it was me and not the book.

This is not for me. The blurb sounded amazing, but the story is so slow and boring. I was twelve chapters in before any action took place. It felt like the whole story was about the women reminiscing about their time at school and each has changed.

A weekend getaway for a group of friends at a remote Scottish lodge turns deadly. The small group of women, who were known as the Owl Society in their school days, turn out to be more enemies than friends these days, but they have to pull together when one of the friends picks up a hitchhiker with deadly intentions while en route to the lodge. Atmospheric and moody, this was a tense but enjoyable listen

It was a long listening, many names, many things happening. The atmosphere in the reunion was bot really nice between them but was perfect for this season. Sure also scary and a mix of guilt and all bad things in one but done so well.. and going there with real friends would be really wonderful
