This latest installment of the sharp-tongued Mennonite mystery solver is one for long-time fans. Though a bit formulaic, it's always a rollicking read.
Such a cozy light hearted mystery. I love me a good mystery set in a small ton. This book felt like a familiar friend. I haven’t had a chance to read any of the other books in this series but I definitely have them on my list now!
Another solid and higly entertaining story in this long series. It made me laugh, the twists and the solution surprised me

I was so so curious about this book based on the summary and title, but it was very underwhelming (and slightly annoying).
One of my main dislikes was the main character, Magdalena. I really didn’t like her and found her super annoying. As the book is written in first person, it meant I didn’t really enjoy my time reading as her constant need to have an opinion on everything really got on my nerves (especially cause she always felt as if she was right and that everyone else's opinions were wrong). The side characters though were slightly chaotic but kinda fun to read about.
Also, the mystery wasn’t really that good. It had very little depth or even bits of evidence. We only find out about the motive and the means in the very last chapter with no mention of anything to do with the motive at all in the rest of the book. It just felt very underwhelming and as though there was no thought put into the plot at all.
A different read!
This is the first in the series that I have read and it’s certainly a quirky read.
Magda runs a guesthouse and one of her guests is found dead.
What ensues is a fun and unconventional story .
Magda is a great character and certainly has her own style.
An enjoyable cosy mystery .
Thanks to NetGalley and Severn House.
Another delightful entry into a long running series that's perfectly enjoyable as a standalone. Magdalena (Magda) is once again investigating a murder, this time of a potential investor in the local sausage factory. Who in Hernia would have done this? No one escapes Magda's firm eye and,, with the help of her friend Agnes, she solves the crime, I like this series, which admittedly gets a little hectic at times, for the setting and the characters more than for the mysteries. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good cozy read.
The latest in the Pennsylvania-Dutch long running series, with each story complete in itself. As usual, it's a triumph of wit and invention, with heroine and much put upon In owner Magda to the fore. One of the very best cozy mystery series around; with each character well defined and sufficiently idiosyncratic to be implanted clearly in the reader's mind., As usual, great fun, lots of laughs - and not a bad mystery either!
Four of Magdalena Yoder's current guests at the Penn- Dutch Inn, are there to compete with each other in pitching business deals with Schmucker Brothers' sausage. When one of the guests is murdered at her Inn, Magdalena puts her detective skills to good use to help the sheriff find the killer. This was a fun cozy with plenty of humor and lots of red herrings. I just love Magdalena and her quirky best friend Agnes.
This is first book by this author that I have read. I am an avid cozy mystery reader and always excited to find new authors to try.
The book starts out slow. The murder that our sleuth, Magdalena Y0der, investigates doesn't happen until Chapter 10. There is also a lot of inner dialogue that goes. The characters, especially Magdalena and her best friend Agnes are quirky, but I like quirky. They are investigating the murder of a guest at her PennDutch Inn during the time that there are 4 guests there who are meeting with Magdalena's Amish' cousins the Schmucker Brothers about being a distributor of the Schmucker sausages. There are a lot of shenanigans going on with the production of the sausage.
I could have written this off as just not my cup of tea and given an additional star but SPOILER ALERT I can not get past having the killer in a cozy mystery being a cannibal and trying to serve the victims to others. I'm sorry, it was just disturbing to me.
Slaughter Amidst Sausages..
The twenty fourth in this enjoyable series finds Magda amidst much culinary competition. Super sausages are the name of the game and the stakes, it seems, are high. When a slaughter in the sausage factory raises eyebrows, Magda gets to work. With a pacy plot peppered with humour, eccentric characters coming out of the woodwork and a feisty protagonist this is another successful and entertaining entry in the madcap adventures of Magda.
Absolutely love this series!!! I've long said there needs to be a TV series of these books! Filled with delightful humor! Magic is one quirky character that I love! Another great plot filled with lots of twists and turns. Excellent story line. Another home run! Thanks#netgalley and #SevernHouse for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Severn House and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Charming MC in this delightful story.
Magda’s current guests at her Inn are hoping to do business with the local Schmucker Brothers who sausages are the big weiner! When one of Magda’s guests is dead at her inn, she must find out who butchered them and prevent another disaster before it occurs.
Only Magda could make the premise of this book work, but then again, only Magda can pull a lot of the things in her books off. Man, I love me some Magda! If you have not read one of the books in this series yet, you are missing out! Magda is like the Stephanie Plum of the Mennonite community and you will find you love her as much as I do. She’s funny, quirky, has a sharp wit and can be a little naught at times…and that’s what makes her so lovable and enjoyable!
