I loved this book. Having lived for many years in a ski resort working with the ultra rich I can attest that the tales are very relatable!
I really enjoyed the romance but also the side characters of Yeti and Max and also snowy and Rob. Definitely an author to search out
I enjoyed the romance in this book and the ski setting. I found the tropes cute.
I found the complete immaturity/dangerous approach to the snow and skiing really annoying, but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed
Romance, enemies to lovers and set in the snowy slopes… perfect book to cosy up with in winter.
This is a very easy read and can be read in one sitting with a cosy blanket, cup of tea and some snacks.
Brilliant mix of romance, character development and friendship. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
This book!!!! 😍😍😍😍 Devoured in less than a day, it hit me right in the feels. I absolutely loved being on this journey with our two main characters, they feel like my friends now!
Jen is newly single, and has made a pact with her best friend Maxie to stay that way for six months. The problem with Jen is that she doesn’t know how to be alone. She bounces from relationship to relationship, because she thinks that being in one validated her. So when Maxie hits her with some truths, and a well-timed trip to Canada comes along, Jen accepts the mission - stay single and find out who you are and what you want.
In Canada, Jen takes on a job on the Platinum floor at a posh hotel in a ski resort, with the most awful manager in the world! She also meets Art, a snowboarding instructor. They don’t get off to the best of starts but as they spend more time together, they realise that there’s more to each other than meets the eye. Art is a former Olympian whose dreams were taken away from him after he and his girlfriend were caught in an avalanche. Art’s girlfriend Shauna didn’t survive the accident, and Art is struggling massively with the grief and with his mental health in general. Meeting Jen makes Art feel something other than pain, and he realises that he needs to take the first steps in getting help.
The author tackled the topics of grief, mental health, and loneliness incredibly well, and balanced the lightness of the story alongside these more gritty elements. It gave the book a lot of depth, and made it more than just a love story. Amazing setting for the book - I loved the snowy descriptions. I really enjoyed seeing the character development from both Art and Jen, and I would highly, highly recommend this book!
I really enjoyed this book and read it in one afternoon! Art and Jen both have their own emotional baggage and meet each other literally by accident! After their eventful start they eventually build a friendship with their own backstories and difficulties. A great will-they-won't=they theme but the well written backstories that were very moving made this more than the standard rom com. I loved the development through the story, a great read to cosy up with this winter.
I adored this romance novel from Helen Whitaker. It is set in the Canadian ski resort of Whistler and follows ‘unlucky in love’ Jen and ‘damaged soul’ Art (who is recovering from PTSD). They meet on the slopes while Art is teaching snowboarding and a slow burn romance story begins. This one is perfect for fans of the movie ‘Chalet Girl’.
I really loved the whole cast of characters, but particularly Art. His story arc of slow and gently recovery from trauma was heartwarming. This is a wintery themed romance novel, but not a Christmas one, so you could enjoy it any time in the winter. I really enjoyed this one, and will definitely read more from this author in the future.
I received a free e- arc in exchange for an honest review. Apologies to netgalley, the author and the publishers for letting this linger on my TBR for far too long.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a beautiful festive read. I'm reluctant to describe it as enemies to lovers vibes simply owing to the mental health representation being handled so beautifully and therefore to call it enemies to lovers seems like an oversimplification. Instead I think it's better served being described as a slow burn romance. The flaws in the characters made them that much more enticing and enjoyable to read. There were a few moments where the narrative jumped around a bit in terms of the time (e.g. months), but it didn't majorly detract from my enjoyment.
On the whole I enjoyed this one and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a festive romance with believable characters.
I love a romcom, cannot beat it, especially when it's my themed with my favourite season, winter!!
This was the perfect book to get absolutely lost in, I could not put it down.
Another good read
Perfect book to curl up with and to get lost in
Will have you hooked from the first page
Thanks NetGalley
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and of course the author for gifting me this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I am such a sucker for a good feel good christmassy book and I loved this one which was a perfect winter holiday romance.
30 year old Jen makes a pact with her best friend to spend 6 months putting into herself after she breaks up with another boyfriend so she goes to a ski resort to make a fresh start despite being broke and unemployed. However a job opportunity forces her to spend time with Art, a snowboarding instructor that she hates, and therefore what ensues is an enemies to lovers trope.
I felt there were a lot of loveable characters in this book and it provided all the feels you would expect from a winter holiday book and the only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt there were times when the story could have picked up its pace a bit and been a little bit less slow burn (but that is my opinion) however overall a very enjoyable read, thank you!
'Single in the Snow' by Helen Whitaker is a delightful winter romcom that will warm your heart during the coldest of seasons. With a captivating enemies-to-lovers plot, this novel is the perfect blend of humour, romance, and self-discovery.
The story introduces us to Jen, a woman on the cusp of turning thirty and revaluating her approach to relationships. After a string of failed romances, she decides it's time to put herself first and start fresh. What better place to do so than the picturesque Canadian ski resort of Whistler, even if she's broke, jobless, and has never attempted skiing in her life? Her only rule: to remain single throughout the ski season.
As Jen navigates her new life in Whistler, a chance encounter with Art, a snowboarding instructor, leads to an amusing clash of personalities. The instant dislike they feel towards each other sets the stage for a classic enemies-to-lovers trope. Both characters are determined to maintain their distance, but fate has other plans.
Helen Whitaker's storytelling is light-hearted and filled with humour, making it an engaging and enjoyable read. The banter between Jen and Art is witty and entertaining, keeping readers entertained as their relationship develops. The picturesque setting of Whistler adds a layer of charm to the story, making it the perfect backdrop for a winter romance.
A gem of a book, set in Canada in the snowy mountains of a ski resort. A brilliant story with relatable characters.
Very well written the story flowed .
I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it
Thanks to Netgalley, Hodder and Stoughton and Helen Whitaker for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review
Having lived in Canada myself for a year on a working holiday visa, I could relate to Jen and her initial actions. I really loved seeing her get settled into a job, in a new area and deal with some of the things that came her way. The job provided so many funny situations, and some not so funny, but it was a welcome extra on top on the romance aspect.
Art was a wonderful character and I really enjoyed getting to know him. From the start you know he has issues and I was really interested in his past and how he was going to move forward.
Overall, a great mix of wonderful characters who both have interesting pasts, fun secondary characters and a lovely journey for everyone involved.
Jen is just about to get a life shake up. She will get a second chance to start life again. The perfect book to curl up in front of the fire.
3 stars
It was a cute winter romance. I thought it was okay, not that special really, but I still highly recommend checking it out💗
Loved the dynamics between the fmc and mmc. They were so cute between each other amd just in general were the sweetest ever even when having disagreements.
I would recommend this to everyone who wants to read a little cute winter romance book which also has an interesting plot.
A really enjoyable read. Enjoyed the story particularly the setting at Whistler with the snowboarding and the characters were interesting. Art and Jen both had problems and thought the author told their story beautifully with a slow build up that ended perfectly. An easy to read rom com that is perfect for curling up under a duvet with a nice cuppa.
I really enjoyed this book for most of the time. It has taken me some time to write the review as I was not keen on the near-end of the book. But I decided in the end that I had enjoyed the book and the final ending enough to forgive it and give it a well deserved 4 star. If you like snow and romance, this is the book for you. :)
I adored this book and I knew from reading the blurb that the main character Jen would be someone I could easily relate to and I was right!
As I've gotten older, I have always worried about entering the 30 club (next year) and as Jen is 30 and constantly jumping from man to man, I did find she was relatable to me and I didn't feel half as bad about myself after reading this book, relating to her and seeing her character grow and develop.
I loved Jen and Art, two very likeable and relatable characters!
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
Gorgeous….. I was very quickly drawn in to the plot and to the characters. A lovely modern day romance where the main characters sorted out past issues. This book is set in snowy Whistler with a background theme of snowboarding. There are some sweet accounts of interactions with children who are getting snowboarding lessons. Recommend!
