Unfortunately I did not finish this book. I found it very slow paced with very little happening to move the plot along.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc of this title, in exchange for this honest review.
This book was,, decent? I guess. I never really got invested in the characters, the writing style was neither terrible nor incredible and I honestly never really cared about the main relationship.
This was a really nice festive read.
The main character, Jen, has a visa to live and work in Canada for a few months with her Canadian boyfriend. When the relationship collapses, she decides to still visit the country and chooses Whistler so she can learn some winter sports.
Art is a snowboard instructor who is still grieving over the death of his girlfriend 4 years prior. When Jen crashes into one of his teaching sessions, he is understandably angry.
This story took a little while to get going, though I thought the issues of grief, mental health and PTSD are dealt with realistically and sensitivity. The end of the story whilst happy, feels a little clunky in comparison with the rest of the story could do with a little reworking.
3.5 rounded up to 4 as I feel despite my minor quibbles, this was a lovely story.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of the arc. This is my unbiased review.
I loved every second of this book and felt as though i had been transported to a snowboarding season in Whistler, Canada,
I adored learning how to snowboard with Art and Jen. And seeing Whistler through Jen's eyes was just awesome especially the hardworking, painful life of a seasonaire.
She ends up working the platinum floor for a top hotel, and well her boss is a complete and utter nightmare, but it was an interesting look at how the other half holiday.
And Art has his own demons to overcome, and his backstory really got to me, and I felt bad for him.
Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book.
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Jen has had some terrible relationships. After yet another break-up, her friend suggests she takes a new look at her life from a different place, with no dating! She heads to Whistler, Canada and gets a job on the Executive Floor of a local hotel. Ant is a local snowboard instructor who has cut himself from people after an accident four years ago. Their first meeting literally ends in a crash and instant mutual dislike.
This is an entertaining and enjoyable read with lovely characters, humour, pathos and a great setting in the Canadian mountains. The dialogue is slick and realistic. This is much more than a cosy Christmas read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Set in a ski resort in Canada, this makes for a lovely read and perfect for the cold winter days.. The characters are well placed and written about and they make the story come alive. 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
Jen goes to work in Whistler after numerous failed romances, Art is teaching snow boarding to children after a life changing snow boarding accident . First meeting is a disaster, will hate turn to love and transform their lives? A really good story, perfect for a winter's read.
Set in what sounds like a beautiful ski resort. This is a lovely tale of romance life and loss. Absolutely lived it. It even made me want to go to Whistler, and I hate winter!
Apologies for the delay in posting. I have been sick with optical migraines.
REVIEW
⚠️cw: grief, trauma, bereavement, gaslighting, sexual harassment⚠️
Jen Clark is a perpetual dater of the 'wrong' men. Approaching 30, she moves to Whistler for the year, determined to focus on herself and stay away from men. Her job brings her in contact with the seemingly abrasive Art. Art ‘Jedi’ Jenkins, was Team GB's most promising slopestyle snowboarder, destined for the Olympics, before an avalanche severely injured him, and cut his competitive career short. Instead, he spends his days teaching children on the nursery slopes and avoiding everyone from his old life. They clash immediately, but over time Jen begins to question her vow to remain single.
I LOVE Whistler, and, as a snowboarder, this was an immediate draw for me. The technical aspects were written by someone who clearly understands the sport, and the descriptions of Whistler were spot on. This is a story with a surprising amount of depth, specifically in relation to Art's character. The descriptions of his anxiety, trauma and PTSD were heartbreaking to read but sensitively explored. I also loved Yeti, and the Misfits and their immediate warmth towards Jen, but also their collective grief over losing not one friend, but (almost) two.
I loved the development of Jen and Art's relationship, but would have liked more of them together. That said, this book was about more than romantic love, it was about learning to love yourself enough to live a full, authentic life.

A nice winter rom-com that made me smile and root for the characters.
I loved the setting and the well plotted story that kept me hooked.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
A good Christmas book with a well fleshed out hero. I had issues with the pacing, to slow in the beginning and at the end the ending felt rushed and there was no epilogue
A perfect read for these cold and wintry nights, to tuck yourself up by a warm fireplace, get a hot cocoa, a blanket, dive in the pages of this book and you’ll feel warm both from the book and the fireplace. The characters are so engaging, just like the story which you can’t put down once you start, simply a gorgeous read
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy in return for an honest review
A great Christmas read! I loved this book. Not just a lovely Christmassy book but it also deals with mental health and the "me too" movement. The characters are engaging and you really want them to get together. Jen is swearing off romance for 6 months and Art is dealing with past trauma. Of course they meet and there is attraction.
I loved the descriptions of Whistler in the snow and ceriainly learnt about snowboarding! Would definitely recommend.
This is the story of Jen working her first season in a ski resort at the age of 30. It follows her adventures on and off the slopes, which brings her into contact with the reclusive Art. Their relationship is hardly conventional though it is endearing.
Ideal for a winter or holiday read. It’s full of heart, emotion and drama with some funny moments along the way too. I really enjoyed it and based on this book, would read more work by this author.
Thank you for Hodder and Stoughton and Netgalley for my free advanced copy. This review is my own honest opinion
When Jen's relationship ends just before they were due to go to Vancouver she decides to use her visa anyway and heads off to Whistler.
She knows she needs to steer clear of relationships for a while and has promised that for the 6 months of the skiing season she will do exactly that and find her own happiness.
She gets a job on the prestigious Platinum floor of a hotel working long hours.
As part if her job she meets Art the snowboard instructor. He was a blossoming Olympian who suffered a terrible accident which has left him with more than physical scars.
As their relationship develops into friendship, she has to make the decision whether to give in to her feeling or be true to herself.
I really enjoyed this book
Single in the Snow is a romance involving Jen who after breaking up with her boyfriend in England obtains a position in a luxury hotel in the ski resort Whistler in Canada. She wants o make a new start to take care of herself instead of always feeling she has to have a boyfriend to be happy.
Art is a snow board instructor, previously he was a sure chance for an Olympic medal but a tragic accident ended all his dreams of Olympic gold and he is now rather reclusive when he isn’t teaching.
Both have their problems, and this is their story of their growth and healing. There is plenty of humour and a cast of characters that are well developed and refreshing. Their relationship develops slowly…very slowly. I enjoyed the story but I didn’t love it. I felt a little let down at the end, it was a little abrupt and there was one character I’d really of liked to see more of their comeuppance.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
This wasn't quite what I expected but I ended up really enjoying it. I think I was expecting more of a fluffy festive romcom, and this gave me a different kind of vibe, more journey of self-discovery with some light romance amongst the snow. That said, I really loved the story the author was telling, I was so invested in Art and his moving towards handling his trauma, and I enjoyed the way his relationship with Jen developed as a slow burn, and all their baggage wasn't immediately pushed aside by their attraction. They both had to work through their stuff, which I appreciated. I would certainly have enjoyed a bit more depth to that process, though, when I was 80% through I felt surprised because the plot and romance felt more like 60% developed and the final third felt a bit rushed for me, I'd have enjoyed more time in that developing slow burn phase, which felt like it passed in a few pages really. All in all an enjoyable wintery read.
Single in the Snow by Helen Whitaker was such an amazing story about finding yourself, overcoming struggles and the journey to recovery.
Whilst there is romance in this book (an excellent slow-burn romance might I add) this is definitely more than you're average enemies to lovers romance. It's also an emotional and heart-warming story about two people who are dealing with their own demons.
There is so much depth to this story and character development that it just ticked so many boxes for me. I'm so glad I picked this one up! This is a great festive read that I feel deserves more love!
Single in the Snow was a beautiful love story. It touched on important subjects such as the me too movement, but at its heart it was the healing of two people; their journey was inspiring and the portrait of grief was so believable. I thoroughly recommend this book.
A sweet and heart-warming story, with just a hint of the festive spirit, but not too heavy on the Christmas schmaltz.
Jen has sworn off men after another disastrous non-relationship and has promised her best friend to stay single for six months to put herself first and find what makes her happy. She sets off from the UK to the ski resort of Whistler in Canada.
Here she meets Art, and they don't exactly get off to an auspicious beginning. Which suits Art as he is still broken mentally after losing his partner in a tragic accident.
But, over time, Art realizes that he is learning from Jen, and finally begins to seek help in a bid to start living again.
And Jen finally puts herself first and discovers the rewards for this will be returned ten-fold..
