This is such a great book with some great characters to get to know. I felt I really related to Jen and her struggles.
This felt like such a cosy book and the chemistry between Jen and Art is quite fun to read about! There are so many great Moments in the story some sad and some laugh out loud. Itโs the perfect wintery snowy read!
Thank you NetGalley, Helen Whitaker and Hodder & Stoughton for the copy of Single in the Snow. This is my personal review.
This book was a very good romance novel. The location of the story and the main characters fit together perfectly.
Jen has had her ups and downs with relationships and after her last breakup she decides to find her way by herself, so she knows what she wants in a true relationship. Jen came off the pages as real and I like that where I can feel her emotions.
Art was on track to be a successful Olympic snowboarder, but an injury changed his life. Art is also healing from the death of the woman of a woman he was falling in love with.
Fate brings Jen and Art together. This is a romance so well written it reads quickly and has all the parts a romance needs.

โโโโ/5.
This book contains:
- enemies to friends to lovers
- found family
- zero spice
- wintery festive vibes
- ski resort
- Dual POV
- A quick read
I picked this book with zero idea what it about apart from it looks perfect for a winter/ Christmas read-and it was. It follows Jen who has a visa in Canada with her being newly single. She decided to go and work at Ski resort for a season. She promises her best friend she will be single for 6 months as Jen always been in a relationship. She meets cool and moody Art which she see all the time. The chemistry between them is tangible.
I loved that this book is for my non spicy girls. It has enough pinning from the main character and the plot kept it engaging enough that the romance can feel slightly secondary. The characters has a lot of development over the course of this book which was well written. The snowboard setting and the alps were just magical and has put me in the coziest festive mood.
Thank you Netgalley and Hodders for the ARC. Single in the Snow is out now. โ๏ธ
I love holiday reads, and this sounded like a really cute one, so I was looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, I quickly found I wasn't jelling with the writing style at all, which negatively affected my enjoyment, and because of that, I didn't feel pulled into the story in any way. Because of this, I decided to DNF this book.
In Single in the Snow we follow Jen, who is almost turning thirty and has spend her life going from boyfriend to boyfriend without really settling down. So when her last relationship ends, she decides it is time that she stops pleasing others and focusses on herself. And where better than to start fresh in a ski resort?
Jen is determined to make it one her own, even though she is unemployed, broke and has never skied before in her life. But that doesn't matter, as long as she follows her one rule; stay single for the entire ski season.
When a new job forces Jen into contact with snowboarding instructor Art, the two of them are set on keeping their distance. It shouldn't be hard, since they hate one another on sight - and Art knows better than anyone how to keep other people at arm's length.
The problem is, the more time they are forced to spend together, the clearer it seems that Jen's promise to stay single might not be quite so simple . . .
First of all, thank you Netgalley for providing me with a free eARC of this book.
I'm going to be very honest, and that was that I definitely struggled in the beginning. Mostly because I was expecting this book to give me all the Christmas feels, but it didn't. This is a great winter read, but not really a Christmas book, so I was just disappointed and decided to DNF it for the time being. However, yesterday I started again, and I really enjoyed every second of it. This is probably because it is now finally getting colder why I live, which made the story more enjoyable (I don't know why my brain works, it's just weird). But this overall l ended up being a adorable read. It does has some slight romance elements, especially in the end. But it is not a over the top cheesy romance, which was nice to read for a change.
I liked both Art and Jen, but I just wished we got to see more of their personalityโs. Especially Art's. He has a past, which was told, but I would've liked it more of it talked about more, that the story just went deeper with an extra layer. Same with Jen, even though we got to know her more than Art. I would've liked to know more about their characters and their lives.
But for a cute romance it was good, everything you want actually. It is great to read in the winter time, and this book could be great to gift to anyone, since it is also smut free.
I ended up giving this book 3,5 stars.
This is the first book by Helen Whitaker that I have read. Beautifully written with interesting characters. The cover 'sold' me the book.
A very light and cosy read full of snow which was heartwarming whilst also dealing with some serious issues. Set in Whistler a ski resort in Canada so plenty of seasonal atmosphere. Well drawn characters, although I did find the main female character slightly annoying at times but this didn't detract overall. Somewhat predictable but well balanced mix of subplots. Definitely a book to curl up with over the Christmas period.
A brilliant festive read, loved the descriptions and all the details involved in the snowboarding scenes, loved the main characters [bar one] a heartwarming romance set in the Canadian mountains.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. This was a nice easy read with a great storyline, great characters and a lovely setting. I enjoyed it.
Jen is in Canada - not following the man she thought she would be moving with, but making her own way. She manages to get a job, but how long will she stick with it. She also has a no-man plan, but will meeting grumpy Art change that?
A great festive read.
As someone who is preparing to emigrate to Canada, this book appealed to me right away. A new start in Canada awaits our heroine much like me, but she is determined to stay single whereas I am going to be joining my Canadian wife. Still, the premise of a book set in Canada really appealed.
Jen is very sweet but a people pleaser. She changes who she is for whatever man is in her life, hence the no-dating ban her best friend puts on her during her stay in Whistler. This may prove tricky when she meets the prickly children's snowboard instructor Art. This is a man who has a lot of baggage, and keeps everyone at arm's length, even his friends. But there is something about him that appeals to Jen and she finds herself drawn more and more to him.
I loved both our main characters, not only for the burning romance bubbling under the surface but for the journey of self-love they both go through. Jen has to learn who she is without letting a man define her. Art needs to deal with his past before he can face the future. Both were engaging and delightful to watch as they went through their day-to-day lives, intertwining with each other but not allowing themselves to get too close to the other (but failing).
Overall this was a heartfelt book, with a bit of romance but also a few deeper issues (PTSD and sexual harassment to name a couple) but the end result was as sweet as a hot chocolate with whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, sprinkles, edible glitter, miniature animal biscuits and a candy cane peeking out of the top!
I would like to thank Netgalley, Hodder and Stoughton and Helen Whitaker for the E Arc of this book.
We meet Jen, her latest relationship has ended and she doesnโt know what to do. Her friend suggests that she goes on a man ban for 6 months and that she has a change od scenery. Jen was due to go to Whistler with her now ex-boyfriend, she decides to go anyway and gets herself a job as a concierge at a prestigious hotel on the platinum floor. Her boss is very strict and tends to let things go with the privileged clientele that stay on the platinum floor.
Jen enjoys her job and starts to make friends. She is slowly getting to know Art, the ski instructor, who is very withdrawn and doesnโt interact with anyone. Art has his demons that he is not sure how to cope and deal with. He is shutting himself away from others but Jen has breeched his defences.
A nice plot about friendship and finding your way in life, also shows that you can move on from things that donโt work out, for what ever reason. I liked the characters, except for Jenโs Boss, he was not a nice man.
This book was such a wonderful, feel good read, emotional and lots of fun too.
The characters, Jen and Art were wonderful and i really enjoyed getting to know them and loved how their stories entwined together.
Single In The Snow was a gorgeous Christmassy read and was perfect for reading during December, while snuggled under a blanket and drinking hot chocolate - perfect!
A gorgeous, heartwarming, cosy, romantic and festive story and was definitely a most perfect readโฆโฆ.
Single in the Snow - Helen Whitaker
This is my first read by Helen Whitaker and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it gave me Heidi Swain and Holly Martin vibes. I very much enjoyed the back stories of Jen and Art, I thought this added a deeper level to the storyline. This book had the perfect mixture of Christmas feels and romance for me, although I wish we could have enjoyed the outcome of the pair more (for longer) at the end of the book. Lovely festive feels! Thank you very much Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the e-arc in return for my honest opinion.
Jen doesn't have much luck with her love life and has decided to stay away from any relationship until the end of the ski season. She is working as a general dogsbody in a luxury hotel in Whistler, Canada.
Can she succeed or will something or someone get in the way!
Jen has just been dumped by another man who she wasnโt really all that into and makes a pact with her best friend that she will stay single for six months so that she can work on being happy by herself and realise she doesnโt need to hang onto men that are not a good match for her.
She finds herself with a visa to live and work in Canada but no boyfriend to move there with. So instead of passing up the opportunity, she decides to head out to the snowy ski resort of Whistler and do something just for herself. A new place, new job, and no men!
She quickly makes friends and gets herself a job working on the Platinum floor of a fancy hotel - which brings with it a new friend in Cara and a lot of issues with a horrible manager Eduardo! And alsoโฆ a snowboarding instructor named Art.
We switch between Jen and Artโs stories and learn why Art is also trying his best to stay single and keep himself to himself.
As the two find themselves brought together to keep the rich clients of the hotel happy, they canโt help becoming friends whilst tackling different types of personal growth - Jen becoming independent and confident in herself and Art learning to look after his mental health and grieving.
The characters were wonderful and this was a heart-warming and positive story with a fabulously Christmassy setting. A perfect December (or any time) read!
Jen is looking for her HEA but when she breaks with her latest boyfriend maybe it is a break from men she needs.
With an opportunity to start a new job in Canada, Jen sees this as a new start, but for how long can she manage to remain single?
This is a fun festive read with lots of humour, great characters and a setting in Whistler I would love to visit..
This is a book to curl up with .
Any book set in a snowy mountain region is going to be interesting, and this one didnt fail. Jen keeping a promise not to date for a time, finds herself in Whistler, NOT looking for romance. She meets Art, who has his own traumas to deal with.
It's a happy story overall, and I enjoyed the growth of the main characters within the story. Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy.
Jen has enough of relationship after relationship, and goes to find who she really is in Canada.
Art is lost in his head after a life changing accident. Together they help eachother find who they are alone but also together.
I very much enjoyed reading point of view from both sides.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Since Jen was a teenager, sheโs not been with a boyfriend for a long period of time. So after her partner and she end the relationship, her best friend gives her a challenge, to stay single for six months and just think about herself, what does she want in life?
The challenge comes at the time when Jen is moving to Canada for a travel adventure. Thinking that the itโll be easy to stay single as she doesnโt know anyone where sheโs going, a place called Whistler, which is a ski resort just north of Vancouver.
But, she meets Art, a ski instructor, not a happy person. But they both get on with each other.
She thinks that the relationship can grow into something other than friendship, but Art withdraws from her, and Jen is wondering what she did wrong.
I recommend this book.
