I'll be honest, I'm a fan of Karin Slaughters books but that doesn't change the fact that this is another brilliant story with Sara, Will, Faith and Amanda. The story brings back some painful memories from Sara's past and forces Will to use all his focus and restraint to stay on the right side the law. This is an epic book that you want to keep reading and then realise you don't want to end.
Amazing read! As usual Karin Slaughter has delivered a brilliant book which I was unable to put down. I adore the relationship between Will and Sara, and the storyline kept me riveted throughout. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Amazing!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super Shiny Stars.
Love a Karin Slaughter book; add in Will Trent, sprinkle in some Sara Linton history and that right there is a read you don’t want interrupted!
Thanks, NetGalley for an advance copy 😊
Woah! This book is amazing, absolutely shocking and just everything I ask for from Karin Slaughter. Even takes us back through Sara's story. Really enjoyed this.
When Sara Linton was a student doctor she was violently attacked, kidnapped and raped. Her attacker was brought to justice. However 15 years later a woman is brought into ER, Sara vows to help her, especially when the circumstances of the crime are very similar to that of hers. As the investigation proceeds Sara has to relive some painful memories in order to get justice.
This was a series of books but I had not previously read any of the others and it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book .
The story was fast paced and well written, book go back and read others in the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have read every story in the series about Sara Linton and this latest book most certainly does not disappoint. I literally could not put the book down and was both relieved and sorry when it came to an end. I can’t wait for the next installment……
A solid four star read. I have enjoyed this series. Great premise. Well written. Good characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing Would definitely read the next novel. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
The latest - and in my opinion, so far the best - of the Will Trent/Sarah Linton series introduces us once again to the worst and best of humanity. Dr Sarah Linton must confront her trauma of fifteen years ago when she learns that her violent rape may have links to ongoing and historic cases where young women have been stalked, abducted, and raped. At least two girls have died - can Sarah and Will stop the cycle before any more fall victim to the predator/s out there? A dark, disturbing yet nevertheless enthralling plot kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading, and I finished it in just two sittings.
Along with the crime-solving plot, the story moves on Will and Sarah's relationship as they draw closer to their wedding date, and we learn more about the unhappy incidents in their past that have made them the strong, resilient and morally upright people that they are today - in contrast to the criminals they are investigating, who camouflage their base desires under a cloak of privelege and respectability.
Karin Slaughter is a great story-teller and so amidst the horror and evil of the crimes being investigated, the narrative also offers humanity, humour and a reminder that with love, family and friendship in the world, it can never be a truly bad place. A gripping and convincing read.
A first class read. A gritty, no-holes barred thriller that doesn't skip the details of rape and misogyny.
The story begins as medical examiner Sara Linton is giving evidence in a trial about a. young girl who staggered in the emergency room claiming she had been drugged and raped. The case brings back memories for Sara who had been similarly attacked fifteen years previously and as the trial goes on it emerges there are connections between the two cases.
Sara, her fiance Will, from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and his partner, Faith, begin an investigation that will lead them through many twists and turns before it is solved.
There is great relationship between the main characters, who are well written and very believable - they all carry some burdens, but all are determined to see right done. The American justice system and in particular the police force in the state do not come out particularly well, but its good to see the heroes win in the end.
A riveting read and works as a stand alone book if you haven't read any of Karin Slaughter's earlier works about this team.
With thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction for an arc copy in return for an honest review.
Karin Slaughter is my favourite female author which means I read everything she writes so perhaps i am biased when giving my opinion of her books!
It’s been 15 years since Sara Linton was raped which consequently led to her not being able to have children. When she is on call at the ER she attends to a young girl who has been badly beaten and is in a bad way. She whispers to Sara that she had been drugged and raped. Unfortunately, Dani, the young girl dies but not before she promises Dani she will find who did this to her.
In doing so Sara is lead to information that links her rape to Dani’s and soon Will and Sara are following a trail that is too horrific to believe.
As always the Sara and Will novels are wonderful. Their relationship is so heartwarming amid the horrors they deal with, if you haven’t read a Karin Slaughter before, start at the beginning with Blindsighted. Although they are listed as Grant County series they do lead to the Will Trent books. You need all the back story to appreciate the books as the series progresses.
#AfterThatNight. #NetGalley
Wow talk about twists and turns. Absolutely loved it
Follow the connections between two rape cases. They are linked but how? Who is the rapist and have they assualted other people?
You will become invested in the characters and the story.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for an advance copy of After That Night, the eleventh novel to feature Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Medical Examiner Dr Sara Linton.
Fifteen years ago Sara Linton was brutally raped and since then she has managed to rebuild her life and find happiness until three years ago when Dani Cooper dies in the emergency room, having been drugged, raped and badly beaten. Sara wants justice for Dani and enlists Will’s help to get it. Then it becomes clear that Dani’s rape is linked to Sara’s.
I thoroughly enjoyed After That Night, if I can say that about a novel that doesn’t skimp on the detail of rape and misogyny. In fact, it is brutal, not just in its descriptions of rapists’ thoughts and actions, but in its depiction of what women have to do to survive after it, when they often aren’t believed or are brushed aside. I found a lot of it quite upsetting, but also interesting and thought provoking. I feel as if the story of Sara’s rape, which has been mentioned in past novels, has been leading up to this novel, where the author can examine it thoroughly and allow Sara some peace of mind.
The plot is a bit of a slow burner. There are plenty of small discoveries and twists to keep the reader engrossed, but the big picture and, more importantly, proof are elusive until the final chapters, when it all falls into place rapidly. As a change from the more standard procedural this is an off the books investigation involving Will, Sara and Will’s GBI partner, Faith Mitchell until they can present something less flimsy than the wisps they start with. Yes, there are unlikely pieces of evidence that land in their laps, but on the whole it is plausible.
After That Night is a tough read but worth it, so I have no hesitation in recommending it.
Sara Linton, medical examiner and fiancé of Will Trent, is giving evidence in a trial that brings back awful memories of an ordeal that she suffered fifteen years earlier. There are many similarities between the cases and when Sara and the defendant’s mother, a former colleague, share a heated argument in the ladies’ room, Sara is convinced of it.
Sara, Will and Faith set out to prove that the cases are connected but what they discover is so much worse than they ever imagined.
This is the first book featuring Will Trent that I have read but it is the eleventh book in the Will Trent series. I can’t speak for the rest of the books in the series but this one can definitely be read as a stand-alone.
The subject matter is disturbing but I found that Sara’s story was dealt with compassionately. As for the rest, it just made me root for Will and the gang.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
After That Night is a rather gritty thriller which tries to unravel whether a 'Club' might be behind a series of rapes. It's a lengthy novel and has quite a pace but it's not for the squeamish as some of the descriptions are intimate to say the least. There was rather an interesting twist at the end which I didn't see coming. Overall a gripping thriller and the main storyline, I hope, remains a work of fiction.
I love this series from Karin Slaughter and have read from the very beginning. Love the way its progressing. I highly recommend reading from the beginning. This book did not disappoint there was the usual tense episodes and fast moving excitement but also the loving homely side of the characters. Roll on the next installment.
Thrilling, I'm never disappointed by Karin Slaughter and this book is no exception.
If you haven't read anything by this author yet, why not? She is a must have on your shelf.
Sara and Will are my favourite characters and I always look forward to reading about them.
There are so many twists and turns that this book keeps you guessing.
It's no secret that my all-time favorite series is the Sara Linton/Will Trent series. I absolutely adore these characters and the captivating, suspenseful universe filled with both monsters and amazing friends and family.
This particular book took me longer to finish compared to the others in the series. Partly, it was because I cherished being back in this universe and wanted to savor every moment. I wasn't in a hurry to reach the end, knowing that the next installment would be a long wait. And yes, when I finally reached the conclusion, I was left shell-shocked by what had just transpired, craving more of Sara and Will's story.
The book presented a fantastic storyline, delving into some truly horrifying themes, while taking us back 15 years to a pivotal moment that forever changed Sara's life. Karin Slaughter has a penchant for subjecting her characters to the most harrowing scenarios, and poor Sara and Will endured their fair more than their share of hardship.
I want to extend a huge thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for providing me with an advanced copy of After That Night by Karin Slaughter in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 11th in the series featuring Will Trent, GBI Investigator, and Sara Linton, Medical Examinator, and they are back with another gripping and traumatic case.
A car crash outside the ER reveals a young woman, badly injured, and heavily drugged. As Sara battles to save the girl, she whispers to Sara that she has been sexually assaulted. Shortly after this, the girl passes away. Sara is determined to get the woman justice, she stands in court, giving evidence of her final words. When the case is dismissed due to lack of evidence, Sara is crushed. The young man who was being charged, who owned the car the woman was driving is smug in his acquittal.
A chance encounter with the young man’s mother in the bathroom after the case opens long sealed doors in Sara's mind. It also hints at the fact that this young woman may not be an isolated incident, and more women may have suffered a similar fate, but not have escaped. Trauma from Sara’s own past, fifteen years ago, comes flooding back, and she realises she will have to dig into her own ex and his friends, along with the night she was assaulted to try and get to the bottom of this crime. She tasks Will and his partner Faith with helping her off the record, to try to unearth what is happening and to prevent any more women from being harmed.
This book deals with topics of assault and rape and could be triggering for some people. While topics like that are never an easy read, this story particularly makes your skin crawl with some of the character's blatant disregard for women, and their abject treatment of them. As our protagonists try to get to the bottom of the case, the story gets grimmer, and we hope that Sara, Will and Faith can get a resolution fast.
The switching characters and timelines were a good approach in this story, with our glimpse into the past and present merging to tell Saras' story well, to build a big picture. Overall the story made for a compelling, if heavy, read, with the ending very unexpected.
*I received this book from NetGalley for review, but all opinions are my own.
As a fan of this author I was delighted to be able to preview this latest book in the series. Will and Sara continue their relationship, both battling with their own past demons. There's a lot of backstory in this one, possibly too much. However, overall, it doesn't disappoint as another Karin Slaughter crime novel.
There is ALOT of detail about rape and murder, so, please be warned. Will and his partner, Faith, become involved in a case where a young woman dies following a rape. Fifteen years ago, Sara was also brutally raped and it seems there are similarities...what follows is multilayered and shocking and with a fantastic and unexpected ending.
Overall, a 4* fabulous read and thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the opportunity to preview.
Fantastic story keeping you hooked into each element of it with no idea how this was going to end up. Tackling subjects which are hard to talk about, giving different viewpoints.
