All your Christmas's come together when you hear there is a new book from Karin Slaughter, even more so when its a new Will Trent.

This time a woman comes into the ER which has a striking resemblance to Sara's attack 15 years ago.

As Will, Faith, Sara and Amanda with Faith;s son Jeremy, investigate, they uncover a disturbing. and personal case. Be prepared for some graphic and disturbing sections, that can be difficult to read at times. But as always they are executed brilliantly.

Another edge of your seat nail biter that will keep you guessing till the end.

Thank you to Karin Slaughter, the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Do you know this author and this series of books never let me down and I have actually lost family time this week because I couldn’t put this book down and my dog is not speaking to me as I just let her run in the garden instead of her walk. This time as we approach Will and Sara’s wedding events from the past are brought out in the open when Sara treats a potential rape victim. When it turns out she is linked to people from Sara’s past it sets her down a every dark road to try and find justice and the truth for her patient.

A young girl comes into the ER drugged and whispers of a sexual assault to Sara Linton and Sara Linton alone. Suspicious of the young man to whom the car she was driving belonged, Sara is determined to find out the truth of the matter and get justice for the victim.

But strange hints and comments from an old acquaintance lead Saint Sara down a different path. Fingers are pointing to various different respected doctors - they can’t all be the culprit - can they?

Investigating into her own painful path as well as that of her ex partner and his cronies, Sara is stepping into dangerous territory. Can she solve the crime before it’s too late?

Loved this book. It was a fantastic story about how crimes can be committed and then links can be found. It was very complex, but exciting to read.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

I have read, and loved, every book in this series from when it was just Sara Linton in Grant County to it evolving to be more Will Trent. Don't let the dates fool you. I read this is two sittings. I had to stop when I first started as I was watching the Will Trent TV series and the adaptation of the characters was a little confusing to be doing both ha!

Fifteen years ago Sara was brutally attacked and raped. It left her with many physical and emotional scars and unable to have children. Over the years Sara has managed to re build herself. Now a successful doctor and medical examiner and FINALLY engaged to the man she loves more than anything. Except the past never stays in the past.

One night while covering ER a young woman is brought in that brings everything back to the surface. Although fifteen years apart it seems that her and Sara's attacks are connected. Here begins the past and present perspectives as Sara, Will , Faith and Amanda try to work out what happened all those years ago and bring down the people that are still doing it now (with a little help from Faiths son Jeremy)!

Just brilliant. I love all the characters and relationships in these books and picking up the latest installment always feels like catching up with old friends. Everyone really comes together in this to lay the past to rest and get justice for the victims.

Massive five stars and highly recommended.

I enjoyed reading this book despite the fact that the story line seemed very laboured and repetitive at times and it seems that people with money always seem to get away with completely abhorrent and unacceptable behaviour. The characters have developed but will this now set the tone for any future Wil and Sara books? Never the less another very enjoyable story from Karin Slaughter. Recommended.

Karen Slaughter never ceases to amaze me with her writing. Another fabulous read from this outstanding author. As usual a great plot with my favourite characters Sarah Linton and Will Trent.

This is not a book for the faint hearted, as the descriptions of violence and rape are graphic and very disturbing, but the stories of rape victims need to be told and Karin Slaughter does this so well. Although the book stands perfectly well on its own it is a continuation of the stories of Will Trent and Sara Linton. Sara, a medical examiner treats a young woman who, as her dying words claim, has been drugged and raped. As Sara suffered a similar attack fifteen years previously, her own investigation inevitably bring back the horror of her own attack and sets in motion a police investigation that becomes both very complex and very wide reaching, with unlikely suspects becoming more and more involved as the case progresses. The writing style did not immediately appeal to this reviewer, but the book became more and more riveting as it went on, and the ending was brilliantly done!

After That Night is the next installment in the bestselling police procedural crime drama series featuring Will Trent. I’ve been a huge fan of Karin Slaughter since I read her first Grant Country novel back in 2001. Karin Slaughter is an exceptional author who knows how to both write extremely well but tell a poignant, confronting and challenging plot that will have get deep into your heart and not let go. I love that Karin Slaughter can write about such relevant and heavy topics while not being in your face about it. This one is no exception. The plot in this one reference another main character’s backstory so I’d recommend starting at the beginning of the Grant County series rather than jumping in here, not only because it will make more sense but it is just such a fabulous series which ties into the Will Trent series. Still to do this day its one of my absolute favorite series. This one features some heavy topics including sexual assault which may be triggering for some readers. I can’t highly recommend this book enough.

A medical expert fails to save a patient whose last strangulated words were that she was raped. Three years later as the last person to speak with the deceased, she stands in court giving her evidence in an effort to bring the accused to account. A bizarre meeting in the ladies room of the court and a convoluted incoherent statement leads her to believe the dead girl was not an isolated victim. And so begins the seemingly impossible task of tying up numerous loose ends, potentially invincible and wealthy perpetrators. Covert investigations are all compounded by a lack of concrete evidence or time frame plus the additional pressure of a tenuous link to a catastrophic incident from her own past. Slow and arduous police work sees a trio of specialists , working off the grid, piece together the bare bones of a premise that will eventually gallop along to an explosive conclusion that is as shocking as it is unexpected. A 5* read that investigates a harrowing backstory that can only be described as the stuff of nightmares Many thanks to this established author who continues to deliver superb storylines cleverly written if not always for the faint hearted. Also the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC which page on page never failed to grip with a satisfying intensity.

Well, Karin Slaughter certainly doesn't disappoint! This was a gripping and fast paced story which dealt with some very difficult issues that had been brushed under the carpet and covered up by powerful people who felt they were above the law. It's not until Sarah sees some similarities in cases and begins to search for the link that the mystery is slowly unravelled, thanks to her perseverance coupled with Will's courage and determination. Definitely an edge of the seat nail-biter that keeps you guessing to the end.

The next in the Will Trent/Sara Linton series didn't disappoint in terms of being a speedy, thriller with twists and turns. The subject matter is difficult to read at times and could well be hard for some readers. It was good to see more time given to Faith and her life as a working parent in a dangerous profession. AFTER THAT NIGHT

Steepled in tension this novel had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

After not enjoying the last novel I’d read by Slaughter, I was nervous to start this one hoping that it wouldn’t have the long and arduous chapters.
Where the chapters were long in,
After That Night they most certainly were not laborious. The whole story flowed seamlessly.

This is book #11 of the Will Trent series. Having not read the previous novels in this series it can most defiantly be read as a stand alone.

Thank you #Netgalley for my e-arc copy of #AfterThatNight in exchange for my honest review .

I have read all of the Karin Slaughter Will Trent/Sara Linton books and there is always a worry that the author will run out of steam or the books will become weaker.

I can categorically state that this is 100% not the case here, in fact, I would go so far as to say this book was absolutely brilliant!

Fifteen years ago Sara was attacked which changed her life, the man was caught and sent to prison. Fast forward to the present day and a young lady is brought into the ER, and whispers to Sara that she was attacked and by whom but then dies.

An easy open-and-shut case but when there is further investigation, nothing is as simple as it first seems.

Could not put this book down, highly recommended

After that night" is the latest thrilling installment in Karin Slaughter's series featuring GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton. The story revolves around a case that is set to send shockwaves through the local medical community in Atlanta and is truly abhorrent. It began over a decade earlier and changed Sara Linton's life irrevocably. The case is truly personal for both Will and Sara, and they pull out all the stops to set things right. The story is steeped in misogyny, power plays, and truly evil characters who are loathed from the very first moment you meet them.
The investigation leads to potential rape cases that have either never been reported or were inadequately investigated. It makes for some very dark scenes, not necessarily gratuitous in nature, but enough to make the skin crawl or the blood boil. The author has made the distinction quite clear, the dividing line between right and wrong rarely blurred, and yet not without the odd moment of deception, so that when the final reveal comes, it makes what we learn even more impactful, more shocking.
This is one of the best books in the series, and the pacing is just right, with the tension and apprehension pitched perfectly. The moments of discomfort felt by Will and Sara as they pursue the truth really hit home. It's not a read for the easily offended, but it also has a sense of hope underpinning it, and those darker moments are offset by a wonderful cast of characters who will do anything for each other. Recommended for fans of the series, this book feels like a real turning point, and it's intriguing to see what comes next.

Thanks to NetGalley & HarperCollins UK for ARC.

Karin Slaughter is master of creative, graphically violent thrillers. This is the eleventh in the best selling series featuring paediatrician Sara Linton and her now fiancé, GBI detective and undercover specialist Will Trent.

Sara is dual-qualified and certified as paediatrician and medical examiner, so when she is covering the emergency room and cares for a young woman dying of horrific injuries that she whispers are due to a sexual assault, Sara vows to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice. What she doesn't expect is that over the next three years that vow will turn her life upside down, and endanger herself and the people she loves.
To say more than that might be to spoil some of the impact of the plot, but there are conspiracies, secrets, and some incredibly horrible very rich people who would wish Sara harm. Slaughter is incredibly skilled at keeping up the interest and suspense, and imbues her recurring characters with warmth and humanity.

If by chance you come to this with no backstory, be aware there are scenes of a graphic nature, frequently and minutely described.

For me, this is one of the problems of the novel. Violence against women & girls is a common, important subject, and much of crime fiction deals with it in one way or another. I fell away from Slaughter's work because of the graphic nature of these descriptions, which can sometimes seem to linger on the violence, to shock rather than titillate, but the lingering remains. As someone who worked in women's health and sexual health for many years I find it tough going and I wonder if there is a different way to tell these stories? There is frequent reference to retelling the stories as traumatic for the characters involved, yet we have repeated descriptions of the same atrocities.

Another problem for me is the depiction of the medical world, which as someone who spent most of her career in Australia and the UK is just so alien - no matter how smart and skilled Linton is, what on earth is she doing covering the ER at her stage in her career? If Linton is earning so little compared to her sneering peers in private practice, how can she be wearing shoes that cost twice what Trent earns in a month? I'm totally prepared to accept that some of the doctors in prestigious positions are horrible and their wives are status obsessed, even if they're not all criminals - that bit's fine.

Don't get me started on roping in family and friends to undercover law enforcement operations - I'm no expert but what?

Another great addition to the Will Trent series which focuses on the victim of a rape and leads Sara Linton to recall her own assault years earlier.
Lots of twists as we discover who is behind the attacks.

⭐️ 3.5 ⭐️

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC, in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I love Karin Slaughter’s work, so I was over the moon to get my hands on a copy of After That Night.

This is the eleventh book in the Will Trent series but my first introduction to Trent and Linton. It does read perfectly well as a standalone but I do think it would’ve helped me to enjoy the book more if I’d known more details on their backstories, and I’ve obviously missed a lot of the main character development from previous novels.

Slaughter’s writing is spot on as always and the story is deftly plotted. The characterisation is good and I loved the dynamic between Faith and Will.

The story isn’t for everyone and it is quite graphic in places. The chapters are lengthy and the whole book felt slightly too long and drawn out for me.

Although not one of my favourites by Slaughter, it’s still another gripping page-turner from a fantastic author.

As well as being carefully conceived and expertly delivered, it is also a significantly important storyline, bringing attention to the difficulties by women who have suffered rape in achieving justice. Will and Sarah, an engaged couple, are back again. Sarah had been raped fifteen years previously and later she finds another victim who dies as she tries to help her. The subsequent civil court case is distorted by the money and influence of the young man’s family. That leads to an effort to expose a rapists club which is flourishing in this area of Georgia. The story has many twists and turns as well as an impressive knowledge of medicine and the law. It ends when an unexpected power behind the club is exposed. This book is a compulsive read. I strongly recommend it.
