Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
I love Karin Slaughters books, I have been reading Sara Linton series since the beginning….then when Will Trent came along too it made it even better.
This book did not disappoint!! One of the best yet. Getting an insight into Sara’s past again but linked with the now.
Continuing to hear about Faiths life too, her kids, Sara’s sister I love how the characters continue to grow and change in the series.
This can be read as part of the series but also as a stand alone book.
I can’t wait for the next one!!!
This was a gripping and equally terrifying read from Karin Slaughter. I’ve read a couple of her books before but not featuring Sara and Will but whilst I didn’t know their backstory it didn’t make a difference to this as the story was complete in its own right. This is very much based around the crime of rape which will be a trigger for some, that said it was written very well, more factual in aspects but not without emotion when relevant. The gang of privileged doctors who came under suspicion were great characters to loath and the whole story was very well constructed and got more horrifying as it progressed. The attitudes towards rape victims was also portrayed in an unfortunately realistic way. This was a real page turner for me and the conclusion was brilliant. 9/10
Omg what a thrill of a read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Twisty and full of suspence. I was on the edge of my seat. Gripped from start to finish. Read in one sitting. Couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend. 5*
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and HarperCollins UK and Karin slaughter one of my favourite authors for an early copy of her book.
Will Trent,Sara Linton, and Trent partner in crime are Back.what a fantastic series and a fantastic read.Sara in court giving evidence on a crime in a hospital where she worked a woman named Dani cooper died and raped, the accused was against a son who's father she knew..Was he guilty? Sara was raped in her past and other victims is there a connection? Will and faith investigate and put there jobs on the line. This is the best read all year a Banger of a read and a explosive ending.ive read most of her books just cop town to read.looking forward to more of this series, highly recommend to reading the grant county series first then the will trent series to really get into the characters.
I will review this goodreads,Amazon UK,and waterstone's.
I'm a huge Karin Slaughter fan, especially of the Sara Linton books. Reading this ARC was an absolute treat.
I've been looking forward to another Sara and Will book for a while. This didn't disappoint.
As always, the plot is disturbing and thought provoking. The world of misogynistic men who thrive on hurting women isn't an easy thing to read about but absolutely necessary. Slaughter handles it with power particularly through Sara. Revisiting Sara's past trauma is interesting as we learn even more about her, even so many books along in the series.
I love how Slaughter obviously has a lot of affection for her characters and is dedicated to each of their stories. The progression is seamless.
I loved this book. The only problem, as ever, is it leaves me wanting more and there will be another wait!
We love you Karin we do. High drama, high octane, thriller. Yes it's book 11 in the.series. But don't worry you can still dive right in with this one.
As a massive KS fan, I was really excited when it was announced we had another Will and Sara to sink our teeth into. We've been waiting a long time!
Sara is caught up in a civil trial revolving around one of her ER patients, who was raped and then died. The accused, in the trial, is part of a larger ring of rapists and sadists, who get off of abducting and assaulting women for their own debased pleasure. When the trial is settled, Sara feels she's let down the dead girl, who she promised she'd get justice for. Sara and Will work together with Faith, Will's GBI partner, to take down the bad guys.
Another great book from KS. It's harrowing and graphic. There is a lot of gore and detail, but so much research and development of characters must have gone into this one. The medical jargon and information was so precise, I applaud KS for that. As usual, I loved getting back to W&S, but I could've done with a bit more Amanda. She's there - but only in the latter part of the book.
Overall, a fantastic read and I can't wait for instalment no. 12!!! :)
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Dr. Sara Linton has to testify at the trial of a young man accused of raping Sara’s patient who later died from her injuries. His parents happen to be people Sara knew from medical school. When his mother implies that she knows more about Sara’s rape 15 years ago than she should, Sara, her GBI agent fiancée Will, and his partner Faith start piecing things together.
As always, a very solid read from Karin Slaughter. She is a must read author for me and I feel very invested in these characters. My only complaint with her books is they are a bit too long but that doesn’t deter me. I look forward to more from Will and Sara.
{AD|GIFTED} Karin Slaughter remains one of my favourite authors and this book is no exception. Will Trent and Sara Linton return to investigate a crime linked to Sara's rape fifteen years previously. Reading this book will make you angry, sad, frustrated and horrified but it's brutally honest and utterly necessary. The author handles the topic with sensitivity and intelligence though.
The characters shine through as always. It's lovely to see Will and Sara in such a stable and supportive relationship. I particularly enjoy their interactions with the other characters but especially Amanda who is such an incredible woman. Faith is another interesting character and a book focusing on her life and relationships would be fantastic.
Whilst this is number 11 in the Will Trent series, I do think new readers could still enjoy this book as a standalone. They would obviously be missing a lot of backstory (and should definitely read the other amazing books when they get the chance) but there's enough in this story to hook them on the series. As always, highly recommended.
I literally screamed with excitement when I realised the Queen of crime thrillers Karin Slaughter was bringing out the 11th thriller in the series featuring GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton. God, I love this series, the characters, the plots, and the explicit crime scenes make this series a MUST read. When you read a Karin Slaughter novel, you know you’re getting a first-class thriller, and After That Night is definitely a brilliant addition to the series. It’s dark, horrifying, gritty and yet it’s one of those books you just can not put down!
Whilst on call in the ER. Sara battles to save Dani Cooper, a young woman who’s been brutally attacked. But as the investigation progresses, it becomes clear that her assault is similar to Sara’s own violent attack Fifteen years previously, with the help of Will Trent and his detective partner Faith, they discover shocking facts that link to other heinous attacks against women that remain unsolved. After That Night is very much Sara’s story. As Sarah looks back on her horrific attack, all clues lead back to the present day.
It was great to meet up again with Sara, Will and his partner, Faith. Their characters have continued to grow and mature throughout the series. I liked that although the plot is horrifying, there are gentle, sensitive, and sometimes humorous scenes between Sara and Will that give the reader time to draw breath. Slaughter deftly weaves together the plot line, eliciting morbid fascination on the one hand and empathy on the other. As to the perpetrator, they have to be one of the most depraved, stomach churning monsters I have EVER come across in fiction!
I should warn you the story is harrowing, which some readers may find particularly distressing. The descriptions are graphic, but they convey the devastation of Sara’s assault. Fans of the series will be aware there’s a realism to Slaughter plots that means they often make for an uncomfortable and horrifying read, and this one is no different. After The Night pulls no punches It’s powerful, shocking, bleak BUT utterly gripping, in my humble opinion I think it’s Karin Slaughters best book yet.

After That Night is a tense exciting and hard hitting crime thriller dealing with the dark subjects of rape and domestic violence, that said it is absolutely gripping and page turning with a brilliantly constructed plot line.
Sara is in court giving evidence in a rape case, she was the doctor present when victim was brought into the ER and subsequently died. The accused person is the son of a couple Sarah was in medical school with. The case is taking its toll on Sara and we are taken back 15 years to when Sara herself was horrifically raped. When in the court rest rooms Sara unfortunately is there the same time as the accused’s mother who tells Sara there are links to this case and her rape.
Stunned by this Sara joins with Will Trent her now fiancé and his detective partner Faith to make sense of everything they start to discover facts connecting previous cases. They uncovering some devastating and heinous crimes that have taken place by truly evil people
Intense, shocking and with a finale that is jaw dropping and unexpected this story will stay with you for a long time.
Despite the shocks and intensity what I also really enjoyed was seeing how well Will and Sara’s relationship has developed, now so deep and loving it is truly joyous to have taken this bumpy ride with them from the beginning and see them so happy together.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
Karin Slaughter always delivers and After That Night did not let me down
I LOVE the Will Trent novels and I love reading about his relationship with Sara, Faith and Amanda. This book tackles a few difficult topics, but it is as always fantastically written
It's finally here! This book was on my 23 in 23 TBR, so as soon as I got approved for it on NetGally, I dropped everything else I was currently reading and picked this up.
The Silent Wife was going to be a very hard Will Trent book to top and I new that going into this new book. And while this book didn't quite top TSW, it definitely had some standout moments and gave me an epic Sara Linton scene. Slaughter does such a great job of developing the stories and backstories of our main characters and that's no different here. While I feel Will definitely takes a backseat in this one, we get some more little details about his past but most of the development seems to be in Faith's life and Sara's backstory that is very much at the forefront.
The book got off to a great start with Sara on the phone with her sister while supervising her junior colleague and then being presented with an intense emergency case. From there we are introduced to some of the worst characters and even though some of them were downright reprehensible they made for good reading. My absolute favourite moment came at the end and oh my god, that might be my favourite ever Sara Linton moment. I've followed her story for so many books, across Grant County and this series, and this moment left me gobsmacked! I loved it! Can't wait for the next Will Trent book.

Synopsis
After that night, nothing was ever the same again …
Fifteen years ago, Sara Linton's life changed forever when a celebratory night out ended in a violent attack that tore her world apart. Since then, Sara has remade her life. A successful doctor, engaged to a man she loves, she has finally managed to leave the past behind her.
Until one evening, on call in the ER, everything changes. Sara battles to save a broken young woman who's been brutally attacked. But as the investigation progresses, led by GBI Special Agent Will Trent, it becomes clear that Dani Cooper's assault is uncannily linked to Sara's.
And it seems the past isn't going to stay buried forever.
I read all the time but a new Karin Slaughter book …. I drop everything to read it next.
While I have to admit to feeling a tad lacklustre about some of the recent standalone books, my intense love for Grant County/Will Trent always gets me ready to dive in
I wanted to read this in one setting but had to give in to sleep before I could then finish it This could be read as a standalone but knowing the characters and seeing them appear again here is so so exciting
I enjoyed the medical scenes at the start with Sara on the phone with her sister while supervising her junior colleague
Dani arriving was fast paced and had me gripped.
The book was so intense and the twists were so so good
Amanda and Evelyn are back and Kate Murphy from Cop Town [I LOVED Cop Town]
As always Sara Will and Faith carry the show and I am right behind them so excited for the next event
All the characters for me were interesting and even though some of them were downright nasty I still wanted to know what they would say or do next The female characters were strong women
This book is dark and has scenes of rape sexual and domestic violence against women This may be triggering for some
This story goes back into the past while at the same time taking us into the future life of Will and Sara
The Finale …. Well what can I say
I extend my thanks to Karin Slaughter, Harper Collins UK and NetGalley UK for giving me the privilege to read this in advance via ebook
Another great book from a legendary and one of my favourite authors, a brilliant book which kept me entertained until the very end
As always a gripping story from Karin Slaughter. For me this was a read in one sitting book. It helps if you have read other books in the series but I think it could easily be read as a stand alone. Darker and grimmer than some of her other novels but I liked the strength of character shown by the female characters.
I've missed Will and Sara over the last few years.
They're part of a consistently great series.
This one moves us back , so we learn more about our characters, and inches us closer to their future.
This story seems a lot more grim than a lot of the others, the casualness of the whole thing.
The people we are mixing with... none of it felt good.
This makes for a very good book.
As gripping as ever, and quite the finale.
Excellent.
After That Night, Karin Slaughter.
Fifteen years ago Dr Sara Lintons life was changed forever after a brutal, violent attack destroyed her. All these years on she has rebuilt and tried to recover. Until an eerily similar attack prompts her to call in Will Trent and Faith Mitchell. Is anything ever a coincidence? Or do all roads lead to horror?
Karin Slaughter is a ride or die for me. Her craft is faultless and she has never dropped in quality. The return of Sara and Will is always a delight. Karin Slaughter has always handled the epidemic of violence against women with a specific grace. Yes what happens is brutal and violent but she refuses to back down from the realism of everyday life.
A dark, bleak, timely must read
Thank you to the author, publishers HarperCollins and NetGalley UK for access to this as an advance reader’s ebook. This is an honest and voluntary review.
Heart racing, heart breaking, heart warming. A thriller full of life and character.
Will Trent and Dr Sara Linton are back. As they prepare for their wedding a civil court case begins to unravel everything Sara thought about her past. Now Will and his GBI partner Faith are helping dig into Sara’s former med school students to uncover a horrifying truth.
I was so happy when I heard that after a break of a few years to focus on different stories Karin Slaughter was releasing a new Will and Sara book. And, it’s exceeded all of my expectations.
Will and Sara’s dynamic is a great payoff of the journey they’ve been on together. Even Will’s boss/mentor/substitute mother Amanda is mellowing, but not too much.
The crime/mystery story here is probably one of the most gruesome and harrowing case to date - and that’s saying a lot as Karin Slaughter pulls no punches with her plots. But, the central relationship and their wider found family creates such a warming perfect balance that just keeps on delivering.
Anyone familiar woth Karin Slaughter will understand the rules that as soon as a new book is available, you jist know that everything else will be put on hold until you've finished it and that's exactly what I did.
It is part of a series but can be read as a standalone easily. I've been with Will and Sara from the start and it feels like coming hoke to be back in their world.
It's well written and fast paced. It's a complex thriller, told simply though beautiful storytelling. There are sub plots and flashbacks and chat groups so you end up so deeply immersed in the story
There characters are like old friends hy now. They're still true to themselves , they're still changing as toke goes on.
The plot is quite dark and may trigger those familiar with SA. It's told respectfully and there isn't anything thrown in purely for shock value or needless gore added In
There are tiwts and times you don't see coming, these characters are written as rela people with real problems. All the characters are 3d and easy to get to know.
I loved every second if it and I'd definitely recommend fir those who like police procedural/ domestic noirs
