Thanks first must go to Netgalley, the publisher and J.E. Rowney for the ARC of ‘Gaslight’.
Lover of J.E. Rowney and Gaslight didn’t disappoint. Another well written gripping thriller, slightly shorter than others but absolutely worth the read. Brilliant story, very twisty and leaves you guessing!
I could not get into this book. I struggled to finish. The story felt quite rushed and the characters were unlikable. The story itself was just ok in my opinion.
Thankyou to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC.
This is my first book by this author and i will be reading more.
This book had twists and turns that i did not see coming.
This book is creepy which i really do enjoy.
I honestly thought i knew what was happening but i really did not.
Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Thanks again
5/5 stars
I have read several books by this author, some of which have been really good and others not so good.
This book fell into the latter category for me. Although it was a short book I found it repetitive, and the twist at the end was easy to guess.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this advance read.
The description of "Gaslight" gained my attention with a teaser of a mystery, one's pasts ghosts, and relationship challenges. Sadly, the storyline did not keep my attention. Too many unknowns and confusing notes left by whom? The main character Ella comes off as crazy as the story goes from one chapter to the next. Maybe the "voice" isn't merely in her head. Maybe it is from someone close to her from her past. One would need to keep reading to find out.
Gaslight" is a gripping novel that tells the story of a young woman named Ella, who becomes convinced that she is being gaslit by her partner. As she struggles to uncover the truth, she is forced to confront the dark secrets that lie hidden in her own past.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for allowing me to read this book.
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this one. The main character was unlikable and I didn't feel invested in the story. The pacing felt rushed and the twist fell flat.
Quick and entertaining read that I devoured in one sitting. The twists, who do you believe, who do you trust when mysterious things happen etc. Definitely a page turner.
This felt more like a short novella.. The story was quick to develop, and I still am not sure about the ending. Main character seemed trapped in her mind, and her past and made decisions influenced by others.
This was a really quick read, I think just under 200 pages so ideal if you’re looking to while away a couple of hours.
While the concept sounded promising - did that really happen or am I imagining things?? - this didn’t really set my world alight. The woman left her coat life behind to move back to the home of her childhood trauma with a man she’d been dating for a couple of months? Ok.
Now he’s telling her she’s imagining all the weird things that have been going on, and she STILL does nothing? Ok.
I didn’t like either of the main characters, and the ending felt like the biggest letdown ever.
Overall, not for me.
Thank you NetGalley for my chance to read in exchange for an honest review.
I always love thriller books and especially love reading one of these books when the length of the novel, itself, is just the right length. Not too long and not too short. Gaslight by J.E. Rowney kept me hooked from start to finish and I am so appreciative of my advanced reader access. I am so thankful to the author, NetGalley, and BooksGoSocial.
This was one of those books that I wanted to love, but unfortunately, wasn’t for me. The pacing was off and I was bored with most of the book. The characters were also one dimensional, and I didn’t care about what happened to them, making it hard to care about the plot. Not for me, but I’m sure this will find the right readers. Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author, for a chance to read and review this book.
Thank to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Ella’s dad has passed away and she must return to the family home with her husband Dan to allow her to move forward and put her traumatic past behind her. Her starts to discover strange notes and her behaviour becomes erratic. She thinks Dan is responsible for the events that affect her mental and physical health. Dan says he is trying to protect her but nothing is as it seems.
This had such a great premise and a cool cover, but I was so bored. I never fully got into it and it was a struggle to finish. There was nothing overtly wrong with it, perhaps it just wasn't for me.
This novel was bizarre but kept me intrigued right through to the end. So many eerie and strange things are happening and I wanted to find out what would happen next. Many twists and turns and it had me hooked until the end.
6/10. I struggled to finish this book, and honestly didn't even remember to mark it as read until reviewing it for NetGalley. I feel like some readers will enjoy it, but it just wasn't it for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Very quick read, pretty short book. I think mostly I was glad it was short because I didn't really end up with any connection to the characters. Maybe because it was so short, it didn't really seem like Ella's actions were realisitic. I did thinkt he "twist" at the end was good and there could have been a better book if it had been longer and more developed.
I really struggled to connect with this book.
I tried to read it and unfortunately didn’t finish.
I picked it up again and the same happened.
Maybe I felt a trigger, maybe there’s an unconscious reason as to why I couldn’t connect. But this wasn’t for me.
Please give it a go though
An interesting premise and I was sucked into reading through to the end to figure out what was going on, but I wasn't truly invested in the story or the main character's struggles.
This was a pretty good read, the buildup to the reveal was just enough to keep me reading. It's easy to follow without having to try to remember too much. The ending left me wanting a little bit overall a good book.
