Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this advanced copy. This one started out strong for me, but it lost momentum fairly quick. I feel like the book had too many fluffy chapters with no substance. I feel like it was a high speed chase to get to the end of the story. The twist was predictable and underwhelming for me. I’m sorry, this one just wasn’t that great.
I just reviewed Gaslight by J.E. Rowney. #Gaslight #NetGalley

This is really different. I haven’t seen that twist before and I found it surprising and shocking! The ending really made me think about what I read and what it all meant. I hope there’s a sequel!
Mmm mmm this book was a bit different?! I guess I got it?! Sort of?! Lol it was an interesting read that's for sure! It definitely was a mind bender, it had intrigue, suspense, and a few crazy twists! I will recommend reading it as it was worth reading! I wouldn't call it one of my top favorites but still worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This was such a quick wee read and it was enjoyable. Its not terribly complex or deep, it is just what it says in the blurbs nd no more. I guessed the ending pretty early on, ots not really a twist as much as the logical conclusion to the events happening. The suspense it built a bit though and there's some tension worked in. You do find yourself questioning who's behind the weird events. The parent aspect was pretty flat in my opinion. What did happen ot her mum? Was she ill? Traumatised? Abused? And same for the dad. Was he abusive? Was he just being protective?it's all a bit vague. And as for the boyfriend....... talk about rushing into something! No wonder she didn't know whether to trust him when she's only known the lad for a few months but hey ho! I loved the main character, she was definitely giving relatable millennial vibes and there was a few funny one liners thrown in. Her voice just felt very real! I'm not keen on most of the initial chapters ending on a question or some statement implying some dramatic impending doom..... it works once or twice to make you want to read just one more chapter but when it's happening every time then it takes a bit if the effectiveness away from it. Then again, I've never even managed to write a book.so who am I to criticise?! There was a "to" used instead of "too" though.... that annoyed me for some irrational reason. Overall though, I'd genuinely recommend it. Its short but it is captivating and even if it is white obviously what the outcome is, I still couldn't stop reading til I found out for sure.
I was really into this book at the beginning. I felt it was engaging and I wanted to know what happens next.
When Ella’s father dies she inherits his house. There are bad memories associated with her childhood home, but she moves in with her boyfriend Dan. As soon as she moves in weird things start happening.
Like I said I enjoyed the beginning of the book, but I left wanting more. I think there needed to be more buildup around the relationship between Dan and Ella. And the ending was very abrupt in my opinion. I needed a bit more.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and would read another one by this author.
Thank you!
