This may speak to my age slightly, but I grew up on The Princess Bride. So just the nostalgia this cookbook provides is enough for me to purchase it. That said the recipes within the book were fun. My family and I would pick one out and make it as a family, While my husband and I would tell our kids about the movie. We may have been able to convince them to watch an "old people" movie.
I'm a huge fan of The Princess Bride, and like any good fan, I can practically quote the entire movie. So, naturally, when I learned that The Geeky Chef, Cassandra Reeder, was penning an "unofficial" cookbook in honor of one of the most iconic movies of all times, my first thought was "Inconceivable!" but then I wondered just how many recipes could one pull from said movie. After reading through Reeder's take on the movie's food moments, I ask myself how I ever doubted.
Filled with trivia from the film and an array of mouth-watering recipes, Reeder manages to tie in far more recipes than were mentioned in the movie. (If you aren't drooling after simply looking at the pictures, something's amiss.) Covering everything from drinks and cocktails to appetizers to main courses to desserts, you'll marvel at creativity behind each recipe.
And have no fear fellow vegan Princess Bride fans--Reeder includes suggestions for vegan, vegetarian, and kosher substitutions! (Inclusivity for the win!) A section for planning the perfect Princess Bride party is also included so you can take movie night to a whole new level of geekiness! Why am I using so many exclamation points?! I have no idea!
Overall, if you're a fan of the film or know someone who is, The Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook will be a welcomed edition to the kitchen. Now, don't forget your holocaust cloaks and have fun storming the castle!
Thank you to the author, becker & mayer! books and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Who doesn't love the iconic book/film "Princess Bride"? This cookbook was fantastic fun to read - the recipes were all closely tied in to the plot of (primarily) the film, often with witty puns or wordplay involved. The recipes were well-thought out, with clear instructions and (bonus points from me) measurements in US and metric units, as well as lovely photos for each dish. I also loved the background info on the film and the tidibits on the cast which were included.
When I first saw this cookbook, I thought it was inconceivable that someone would be able to come up with more than two or three recipes for this movie. I am thrilled that I was so wrong.
I have been a long time fan of Cassandra Reeder since I discovered her Geeky Chef blog several years ago. And while there’s a shortage of perfect cookbooks in the world, this one gets pretty close.
The titles for each recipe are so clever and made me laugh. And whether you are left handed, or right handed, you should find it easy to follow along the directions. They are clear and concise. With the excellent descriptions, every recipe is also paired with beautiful full page photographs.
Another great thing about this cookbook is in the back of the book is a page of substitutions for vegan, vegetarian, and kosher options. Additionally, the book provides several options for meal planning.
Every recipe I tried was a delicious, and I can’t wait to explore this cookbook more as soon as it‘s published. You’ll have a lot of fun cooking and storming the castle with this gorgeous cookbook.
My thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this advance reader’s copy!
Inconceivable! What a fantastically fun cookbook! The recipes are linked to characters from the movie and have fun titles. There are pictures and movie quotes, making this fun just to peruse even if you weren’t planning on making anything. There are 50 recipes in all, including food and drinks, and it would easy to create an entire themed meal. This would make a great gift for anyone who loves this movie! I may buy a hard copy for myself.
Thank you to #NetGalley for an eARC of #TheUnofficialPrincessBrideCookbook by #CassandraReeder
Love this! Love that someone actually took the time to create this, and create it well!
I haven't read the Official cookbook, but from the reviews I've seen, this one looks better, with more advanced recipes, more thought about how the recipes tie into the story, and maybe just more love from the chef/author who created this book.
The book contains 40 meal recipes, and 10 drink recipes, and each are accompanied by quotes and ties into the movie. The photos are gorgeous, and there are meal plans at the back, so you can put together a whole Princess Bride-themed banquet or movie night, which I will definitely be doing.
I know there are millions of recipes online now, but I think this book is one for my shelves, something to turn to when I want inspiration, and a bit of humour and nostalgia for tea.
I will hopefully get cooking soon, and will update this review when I try out the recipes.
Umm, I'm kind of obsessed with this now. What a fun collection of recipes! You can tell that this book was written with a ton of love for the book/movie and the recipe names are hilarious (the chicken breast was my favorite. LOL)! I might get myself a physical copy of this book and would gladly give it as a gift!
The recipes in this book sound amazing. I can't wait to try a few. The book comes with complete recipe instructions and wonderful pictures of some of the dishes. If nothing else, lovers of all things Princess Bride will love this as a collector's item.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is such a fun cookbook for any fan of The Princess Bride movie or book! The recipes are relevant to the story with recipe names that made me giggle. The recipes themselves are easy to follow with ingredients that can be found in local grocery aisles. The difficulty of the recipes vary making this a cookbook that can be shared by an adult Princess Bride fan or the whole family can pitch in and kiddos can have some fun too!
The recipes I tried were all delicious and would be ones I plan on making again---perhaps during a Princess Bride themed dinner and a movie?! hmm.
“Alert your taste buds, “Prepare to die!”’
I requested this book on a whim because I LOVE all things The Princess Bride and because the cover was SO pretty. I found this cookbook to be creative and so fun! The book is filled with gorgeous photos of all 50 recipes which is helpful when trying them out to know how the end product should look. The amount of thought that went into this book is impressive with short descriptions prior to each recipe sharing quotes from this iconic movie, humorous tidbits of behind the scenes information, and clever recipe names based on the scenes and characters. They are enough to bring a mix of book and movie nostalgia front and center.
The recipes throughout the book are detailed and thorough - not to mention delicious looking! Recipes inspired by each character flood this book - from The Man in Black to Fezzik to the R.O.U.S! The author includes many different appetizers, entrees, desserts and more and I would likely try all of them. While not your usual kind of cookbook, it is highly entertaining and I recommend it for any fans of The Princess Bride!
While I haven’t tried any of the recipes, the book is amazing. The narrative and recipes are absolutely fantastic and made both my husband and chuckle and want to watch the movie immediately

To be Quite Simple, This is One of the Best Unofficial Movie Cookbooks I've Ever Read.
(Thanks to Net Galley for this Cookbook).

My Rating: 5 Star!
"What a delightful book I just finished reading! "The Princess Bride" inspired cookbook! It gave me all the 'wows' and 'feels' a book should give you. I watched the film a few years back and I appreciated the storyline and the acting very much. It is still a part of my movie favorites... an endless classic, indeed.
This cookbook goes beyond merely delivering recipes- it is also a highly entertaining extension of the film with an array of movie quotes, and dishes named after scenes within the film. The explanations that accompany the recipes are linked to the movie so my mind keeps rolling back to particular scenes within the film.
This book is a very pleasant read on all fronts. The cover is eye-catching and the interior is elegant, exquisitely laid out, and refined in detail. It boasts drinks and cocktails, appetizers, soups and stews, main courses, desserts and other delightful extras. The colored pictures that accompanied each recipe were very appreciated by me. I'd like to call them "visionary" in that each photo told a story and brush stroked my imagination.
The Table of Contents contained titles that were witty in their wording. Take for instance these titles: "Humperdinck's Crown Roast," and "Vengeful Spaniard's Sangria." This kind of humor is peppered throughout the book.
I look forward to trying the "Florinese Mawidge Soup" and "Grandfather's Matzo Ball Soup."
I never thought I would be so "swept away" reading a cookbook, but I guess there is a first time for everything. I'd definitely categorize this as a collector's edition as it is so exquisite in its delivery.
Thank you so very kindly to Cassandra Reeder for this advanced reviewer copy.
Cheers!"

A nice well grounded themed cookbook! A little heavy on alcoholic drinks and light on side dishes but a nice cookbook for any Princess Bride fan!! Gorgeous photos, easy to read instructions and a mix of easy to semi complicated dishes. I also booked the pre-order prepared menus in the back for different themed parties! A wonderful title to add to you collection!
