I don’t think words can accurately describe the joy I felt seeing this. I’ve been a fan of the book and movie as long as I can remember and can safely say that I will be having several Princess Bride dinners in the near future. The recipes are amazing, and easy to follow. More than enough drinks to get you giggling and meals to keep you full and warm, finishing with deserts that are to die for!
The unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook by Cassandra Reeder was absolutely delightful. Every recipe was well thought out and funny. The items were aesthetically and descriptively on theme and some of the recipes gave me an emotional response either making me laugh or feel nostalgic. The Princess Bride is one of mine and my family’s favorite movies. I can’t wait to adapt the recipes for our homeschool cooking class or to prepare on of the themed meals in the back for a special themed family night.
Would be an instant hit with any Princess Bride fan. This book was so well thought out. The movie quotes paired with the dishes had me laughing. I really got a kick out of reading over each one. Looking forward to a few of the cocktail recipes in particular!
The first thing I noticed is the vegan, vegetarian, and kosher replacement options which are amazing. The inclusion of the drinking game for the movie at the beginning of the drink section is a delightful idea and I will have to try it the next time I rewatch the movie. The recipes are quite varied and it is nice that they included both imperial and metric. This cookbook is nice and as soon as I can, I am also getting the physical version.
Who from the 80’s (and earlier), doesn’t love, and constantly quote The Princess Bride, and absolutely adore the truly memorable and iconic actors?! Who wouldn’t want a cookbook completely devoted to this beloved movie, with recipes named for the themes, characters and other classic movie scenes? ROUSs that you can eat? Witches Brew! The Wings (the rings)…
This fantastic cookbook full of the most brilliant food and drink names straight out one of the most well-known, classic movies of our time. It has stunning and beautiful photos of the dishes dreamed up from these classic scenes.
I love that this book has photos of every recipe included - I’ve seen others for this movie that didn’t, so this one stands out, in my opinion, simply for this reason. Also, they are easy to follow recipes, for those of us that might not be the best chefs. I love that there are a lot of beverages, also.
This is great to keep for yourself, or give as a gift to a movie-lover. Beautiful food options. Great recommendation!
I received an advance review copy from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group (Becker & Mayer! Books ISBN), and this is my honest feedback.
Probably the prettiest cookbook I've ever laid my eyes on. Beautiful photos and layout to the recipes and the recipes themselves range from drinks to apps, soups, entrees, and desserts, allowing you to curate your own multicourse Princess Bride dinner. The book includes notes for vegan, vegetarian, and kosher substitutions which is a nice touch and all measurements are by volume and by weight. There are instructions for a drinking game included and each recipe has a short blurb on the background of a dish and its movie tie-in. Movie tie-in books can come off as a bit gimmicky, but this book is a solid cookbook on its own and even more of a treat for fans of the movie.
I’ve really loved the cookbooks that Quarto has published, so I jumped at the chance to read an early copy of this cookbook. I’m also a huge fan of Princess Bride. The Official cookbook came out earlier this year, so I was also curious to see how the books differed.
I'm always impressed with the research involved, the thought put into it, and the creativity of cookbooks based on film/TV/Books. Not only are recipes inspired by the movie, they’re also inspired from the book too.
There are 40 food recipes, and 10 beverage recipes (complete with a drinking game to accompany the movie), separated by section. Every recipe includes beautiful color photo and everything looks delicious. I like the design of the pages that make it look like an actual book. Each recipe includes history and trivia from the book and movie, along with step by step instructions, and tips and pairings. There’s even a page with suggestions on vegan, vegetarian, and Kosher replacements. All recipes are written with both Imperial and Metric measurements.
The names of the recipes are nods to your favorite scenes, characters, and lines, including: Miracle Max’s favorite MLT, Roasted R.O.U.S. (A mac and cheese stuffed meatloaf), Florinese Mawidge Soup, Arancini a la Vizzini, and Twu Wuv Twuffles, to name a few.
The recipes are not basic, so if you’re a beginner, tread lightly. I know my way around the kitchen, and the recipes don’t look difficult, so I feel confident I could make anything in here, but I wouldn’t classify any recipe as “easy”.
The only thing I wish was that the recipes had the approximate time it takes to prep/make, but overall, I really like this cookbook and feel it’s better than the “Official” one for the movie, but I’ll probably still buy both.
I hadn’t heard of Cassandra Reeder prior to this, but now that I know she goes by the Geeky Chef and has a website with other geeky inspired recipes, I’ll have to deep dive into those as well.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley. I voluntarily read an early copy of this cookbook.
The Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook: 50 Delightfully Delicious Recipes for Fans of the Cult Classic is a great gift for fans of the movie. The author talks about the part of the movie that inspires each dish and there are great photographs to accompany the recipes. The introduction is a good lead-in for the cookbook, as the author puts a personal spin on her reasons for being excited to write this cookbook.
The recipe sections are as follows, with some of the standout dishes:
Drinks and Cocktails: Fire Swamp Flame Spurt; Dread Pirate Roberts "No Survivors" Bumbo
Soups and Stews: Fezzik's Restorative Stew; Grandfather's Matzo Ball Soup
Appetizers and Accompaniments: The National Dish of Florin; Arancini a la Vizzini; Six-Fingered Man Skewers
Main Courses: Buttercup's Perfect Chicken Breasts; MLT Mutton, Lettuce, Tomato; The Capo Farro Technique
Cakes, Pies, and Tarts: Princess Butter Cups; Princess Bridal Cake
Other Desserts and Candies: Clever Sicilian's "Inconceivable" Dessert; Man in Black's "No One to be Trifled with" Trifle; Cherry Pits of Despair
Vegan, Vegetarian, and Kosher Replacements: Charts for replacements for eggs, cheese, etc
Party Planning: menus like Buttercup's Farmhouse Supper and Feast of Insanity
Overall, this is a pretty limited cookbook, but great for fans of the movie. The tie-in's make sense and give The Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook a good nostalgia feel.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook rested entirely with me.
I loved reading all the little facts that are peppered through the book. The recipes looked very yummy and I have bookmarked a few to try later. At the end of the book they had vegan and allergy replacement options which I thought was helpful. There were also menu plans that you could look at to help plan your own meals.
After finishing this book I look forward to planning a menu and watching the movie
Love this idea and will definitely be making recipes from the book! I thought the names of the recipes were all very creative and charming and all of the dishes looked delicious!
I love this!! The Princess Bride is one of my all time favorite books and movie. So I don't care if these recipes are good or not, but they are, I have to have this. And the names!! You will get a kick out of that alone.

This is a lovely compilation of recipes and drinks inspired by the Princess Bride. The cookbook is comprised of cocktail recipes, appetizers, entrees, snacks, cakes and desserts all inspired by the movie. Each is tied to a certain aspect or character in the film. There is even a suggested menu based on several themes from the film. The accompanying photos are a lovely touch as well. It is an enjoyable cookbook for any fan of the film.
What a cool idea for a cookbook! If you are a fan of The Princess Bride this cookbook is a must have for you. It is full of cute ideas for special occasions, and also recipes that could easily become weekly favorites. Each chapter is full of little puns that will make you laugh and tie into the movie. I think a lot of the recipes sound so delicious and each one includes a picture for reference. In the back of the book is a section on substitutions for vegan, vegetarian and kosher options, which is such a thoughtful and inclusive feature. Overall a very fun cookbook that would make a great gift!

This cookbook is a must-have for any Princess Bride fan! The recipes are not only delicious but also accurately reflect the ingredients and dishes that are featured in the movie. The recipes are also very easy to follow which makes them the perfect addition to any kitchen.
The book isn't just about recipes for cooking it also includes party planning ideas. So any friend groups who are big fans of the movie could have a night in with some of these recipes cooked up, Princess bride on the TV and maybe if you drink try the drinking games included in the book, sounds like a fantastic group idea.
This would be a wonderful gift for movie lovers with a culinary twist. I hope more recipe books use this format would be such a brilliant and great gift for film fans.
I haven't seen a cookbook like this!! This is definitely more appealing to audiences, than Grandma's cookbook. Fans of The Princess Bride will love this.
I liked the magical-looking font and layout for each recipe. The brief description of each dish and relation to the movie was very helpful, as I haven't watched The Princess Bride in a long time. Overall, these recipes look very fun to try at home, and super fans will be all over this!
This books is stunning! I want it in my kitchen or on my coffee table not hidden away with my other recipe books.
I loved the layout of the book and how each recipe had a brilliant name, simple instructions, and cute little story. I also liked how the recipe had instigations using imperial and metric measurements.
The one thing I wish this book had was a spot where prep and cooking time was listed.
This Princess Bride Cookbook is STUNNING! The recipes are well thought out and creative, and easy to follow instructions (although some ingredients aren't so easy to find in your local grocery story). The names of each dish are witty and hilarious. The dishes truly reflect their names in devilishly delicious ways. I am considering buying this for my cousin when it comes out and maybe even for myself. It is very clear that a lot of effort and creativity went into creating this cookbook. The drink/food photography is what sent it over the edge for me. Absolutely stunning photography. I've never seen anything like it. I don't really have any constructive criticism. Thank you so much to the publisher and Cassandra Reeder for allowing me to access this book before it came out. I enjoyed it so much!
My favorite recipes were the "Clifts of Insanity" Shot, Four White Horses (YUM), and the "Battle of Wits" Brie & Apple Crostini. Also, Shrieking Eel Pie, and Roasted R.O.U.'s!!
It's a wonderful cookbook to go along with a wonderful film! There are some really great recipes featured in this book for a variety of courses. The pictures are beautifully done. There are some simple recipes as well as some that are more complex. The names and information for each food item are very fun and creative. My favorite part of this cookbook is the meal plans at the end of the book, easy planning for a fun date or family night to enjoy some delicious food, and watch a classically loved movie.
