I always love diving into a Jenny Colgan novel and The Summer Skies did not disappoint. I loved the feeling of coming home after being away and realizing home is actually where you want to be. I also loved how an unlikely romance brewed between Morag and Gregor. As always, this novel was full of idyllic Scottish landscapes that made me itching to grab my passport and hop on the next plane. I sincerely hope that she makes this a new series, because as always, I'll read every book.

The Summer Skies by Jenny Colgan, a NetGalley review. Morag has been born into a family of very successful pilots however when a tragic accident happens above the clouds everything changes for Morag and her confidence is shook, where will this change in events take Morag now. I really like this author, however haven’t read one of her books for a very long time, sadly though this book wasn’t for me, I sadly just didn’t enjoy it. It wasn’t an overly bad book or had anything obvious that I could pinpoint that I didn’t like, I just found it a bit of a Blah and boring read, a book that didn’t pull me in and capture my imagination. It was great having a strong female main character, Morag, who is passionate about flying, who has lost her way and her confidence and who is trying to be what the world thinks she should be and not necessarily being who she wants to be. This all changes when she is finally forced to stop, she is stranded in an island with not technology what so ever where there is a lot of time to think. The thing I think that really niggled me was that Morag is obviously hugely effected by the tragic accident that happens on the air, almost to the point that she has PTSD, it’s without a doubt effected her mental health, which she doesn’t share with anyone (expect finally with the stranger she’s stranded on an island with!) and then after being on the island for 3/4 days (could have been longer) she’s cured seemingly. For me this put me off the story as it didn’t feel real and for me part of the enjoyment of reading is that you get so lost on the story that you forget it’s a story you are reading and it feels real and relatable. Sadly it was also a drag to read, there was no getting lost between the pages, I was simply just reading a book, which at times felt like I could be reading about anything and anyone. This is book 6 out of 7 in the Scottish Island of Mure series, which I wasn’t aware on starting this book, so I’m not sure if it would have read better if I had read other books from the series. For me this is a ⭐️ book, the worst book so far this year. However I’ve always enjoyed the authors previous books. 📚📚📚

I was quite disappointed with this book. The problem I had was that basically the book is made up of two parts and I thought that the majority of the first part was more or less irrelevant. The fact that Morag had ptsd after a collision and had lost confidence in her ability to fly could have fitted into a couple of chapters. The author could then have spent more time writing about her experience on the island. As a result of this the romance seemed rushed, Morag was just getting to know Gregor and suddenly she was in love. I normally love Jenny Colgan but I felt she missed the mark with this book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

I need to preface by saying that I love Jenny Colgan, so much so that I’ve actually paid to see her talk twice in the past year. She’s hilarious and personable and exactly how you’d expect her to be. I’ve been reading her books for over 20 years. With all that said I just found it took me too long to get into this book and I didn’t connect with the main character very well. It wasn’t that reading the book was a chore, it was just not exciting. It took me ages to read because it wasn’t really my first choice of things to do in my spare time until far too far through. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, the writing was great. I just didn’t connect. I also felt it wasn’t quite as funny as other Colgan books (& trust me, Colgan is usually hilarious).

Jenny Colgan is one of my favourite authors and I collect all of her books so it was wonderful to read and advanced copy of this one (before I purchased a final copy). Yet again, it did not disappoint - need I say more? An uplifting and tender romance that I throughly enjoyed reading and will be recommending to many.

Morag is at her happiest in the sky and she is now set to inherit the island plane service run by her grandfather. However, her boyfriend wants her to move to Dubai with him, take glamourous commercial flights and forget about the dark cold of the northern Scottish islands that are her home. But when she lands with a bump on Inchborn Island and is stranded with this season’s inhabitant, ornithologist Gregor, Morag starts to question where she belongs. I have read a few Jenny Colgan books before and I love their easy, predictable plots. The Summer Skies also has the added bonus of a beautiful setting and lovely cosy scenes in a unique part of the world. The romance is an exceptionally slow burn but it felt very authentic. It is a quiet, simple story but it has a certain glow to it that will appeal to readers who want to escape for a while.

This is a story of overcoming fears, realising what matters in life, love and loss - and I loved it!
When Morag returns to her family in the Scottish isles to help with the family business if flying Dolly the plane between the islands, she dreads being sick there and can't wait to start her new life with Hayden in Dubai where a new life of long haul flights awaits her.
Having had an incident where a couple in a light aircraft were killed, she is cleared of any blame, but still had to overcome her fears before she can fly again.
As co-pilot in Dolly, she is forced to take over the controls during a storm, and has to doo an emergency landing on a beach on one of the islands, where only grumpy Gregor lives.
Being stranded there for a few days the two learn to live with each other, and find friendship.
A feel good story, which I struggled to put down.

The Summer Skies - Jenny Colgan

Jenny Colgan is a must read author for me, I have enjoyed her books for years now and I can happily say that I am never left disappointed. This book started out a little differently than her previous books, with a little insight into the content of the book which I enjoyed. Beautiful setting as always - I already have a hankering to tour around Scotland, and this book has really helped push this feeling along. A really feel good read with good characterization. Thank you very much Netgalley, Little Brown Book Group UK and Sphere for this e-arc in return for my honest thoughts and opinions.

Another fab read from Jenny Colgan. Morag comes from a family of pilots who fly a small plane around the remote northern islands of Scotland serving the local communities but is working for a large airline in the south of England when a call from home sends her back to the small islands. Back home she rediscovers her love of the islands and flying and more besides. I loved the setting, the great characters and Morag’s experience which helped her realise what she really wanted.

A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.

My thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown Publishers for a copy of “ Summer Skies” for an honest review.

I’m a longtime reader I’d Jenny Colgan so I always look forward to her new releases.
Unfortunately , for me, this didn’t appeal to me as much as her other books.
I really enjoy books that grab me from the start , which sadly this book didn’t.One of my work friends who was reading it at the same time was also of the same opinion
I can only give this title an average score but I’ll definitely still be trying out further publications by Jenny Colgan

I eagerly await Jenny Colgan’s books so couldn’t wait to get stuck in!

I will be honest I found it aeronautical fact specific at the beginning but my goodness did it build up momentum and pace.

Morag is a pilot, living in London, having a break after witnessing a tragedy, being called on by her grandfather to help him pilot his little old plane in the Scottish Highlands.

Remote and beautiful islands, I can’t imagine living so remotely, but some do, living off the land and loving it!

Morag adjusts to her new pace of life, adjusting to the sights and sounds but does she wish she was elsewhere? Or can she settle down there?
Family expectations and own desires, which one wins?

Loved it, and adored the ending ❤️

Morag is a pilot, she comes from a family of pilots. Her grandfather is the pilot on the Scottish Islands, and flies small planes between them all in what can be described as a small shuttle service.

When her grandfather falls ill, Morag returns home to help. She has the time because she hasn’t flown in a while after a close call with another plane, which ended in tragedy. Morag has only taken to the skies via simulators and in her mind. Can she really return and fly, as captain in a much smaller plane. She was just getting her life right and it was all about to get better with a move to Dubai with her new love.

On one flight, she finds herself in terrible weather and with an ill Captain, she finds herself having to take over and crash land on a remote island. So remote she doubles the population.

Gregor is a recluse, he choose to spend six months of the year on this remote Scottish Island, observing the wildlife, with a pet goat and a rather friendly chicken. Initially Morag and Gregor don’t see eye to eye, but they have no choice than to put up with each other as help is going to take a while to reach them.

Gregor is keen to get back to his isolation.

Morag is keen to get back to the buzz of city life.

Only time will tell though for these two, who seem to be hiding from something and not facing their realities.

Pure escapist fiction set in the Scottish Isles, whisking the reader away. For anyone that needs that remoteness but is not going to get it for this years holiday – then read this book, it is the next best thing.

This is another wining read from Jenny Colgan which gives the reader pure joy.

I was a little unsure of the premis of this one at first, but actually really enjoyed it!

Pilot Morag is recovering from an incident at work which has left her questioning her career. When she is asked to return home to rural Scotland to help with her grandfather's plane, transporting passengers and supplies to isolated islands she is forced to face her fears. She is also intrigued by the mysterious and quite grumpy new resident of one of the tiniest islands....

It is a cosy, woolly jumper of a book, comforting and heart-warming... and i quite fancy trying some potato scones with butter now!

You're always in safe hands with Jenny Colgan and this book was no different. I've started having to lock my laptop and credit card away from myself while reading so I can't impulsively quit my job, book a flight and immediately run away to the Highlands and Islands.

That sense of place and the love for a place runs so deeply through this book and it's a huge part of what makes it magical.

As usual the cast of characters is a highlight, the sense of a close knit community with both the ups and downs that come along with it are written so well.

My only complaint would be that the romance developed very quickly, I'd have enjoyed a bit more time for the two to really get to know each other and fall in love, as the ending felt a tiny bit rushed as it was.

Overall though, and as always, a perfect summer escape.

Another cracker from Jenny Colgan!

I really enjoyed this quirky story about a pilot who having suffered a traumatic incident on board a flight, goes home to the very far north of Scotland to temporarily take over her grandfather’s small plane route around the smaller Scottish islands.

A freak incident leaves her stranded on a barely inhabited island and causes her to reevaluate her life and love.

Really lovely story. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
