Pilot Morag moves back to the Scottish islands temporarily to help out family. Will being back home help her move on from incidents at work? When she gets stuck on one of the remote islands with Gregor will she see him as more than the grump ornithologist she first met?

So glad Jenny Colgan has taken us to remote islands again, I didn't realise how much I was missing them - but with brand new idea that yes, at the beginning I was a bit sceptical about, but turned out to be brilliant. I can't say I am FASCINATED by planes and flying but I am deeply intrigued how it's possible that tons of metal are able to take me through the clouds and fly me from A to B. The main character, Morag, has taken this fascination bit further, becoming a pilot. And you can see the passion in her, really, she loves it without overwhelming you with it.

It was a very addictive story, especially after Morag being stranded on the island with some hermit who isn't looking for a company, it took off from there and I read it in one sitting then. It was a lovely and comforting read with some dramatic moments and I found myself keeping my breath, hoping everything will be all right. Again, brilliant setting, brilliant and catchy one - liners and so much heart put into writing.

Perfect feelgood summer read
Set in the Scottish Highlands, Morag’s family includes generations of pilots, so it was obvious she would follow the tradition and become a pilot.
When her Grandfather takes ill, she has to head home to keep McIntyre Air afloat.
While heading home a violent storm happens and she’s farted to crash land at Inchborn, a bird sanctuary with just a caretaker, reclusive Gregor.
Stuck together until help arrives and you can guess what happens.
Love the easy style of writing and relatable characters
Thanks @jennycolganbooks @littlebrownbooks & @netgalley for the eARC

Morag is a pilot who is now questioning if she will ever fly again after their was a near miss with a light aircraft when she was co pilot on a jumbo jet
After passing all the required simulations and assessments she is cleared to fly again, has met someone and applied for a job in Dubai when she gets a call to say her dad is I’ll and she needs to go back to the small island chains in Scotland to fly their small charter plane until he recovers
Can she do it or will it be too much too soon ?

Morag is an interesting characters, a new type of heroine in Jenny Colgan's novels. I loved this one, loved the remote island and rooted for the Morag and her grumpy neighbour.
Well plotted and entertaining as usual, the storytelling is excellent.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I love Jenny Colgans books and I always look forward to her latest novel coming out so I’m dissapointed to say that this was definitely not one of my favourites of hers.
I found it so repetitive, the constant narative about her will she/won’t she be able to fly again got, I’m sorry to say this, but it got a bit boring, hearing about the Islands and Island life is always nice though and I enjoyed that. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this easily copy

This is a new standalone novel by Jenny Colgan. Although it is set in the remote Scottish Isles like the Island series it has a completely different style to the other books. There is less community for most of the book and it instead focuses on the solitude of some of the Islands.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it was very different but very descriptive and engaging. It was interesting to read about the other Scottish Isles and who takes care of them.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

Great read as always by Jenny Colgan.

Great story, well written characters in a beautiful setting. Morag is a commercial pilot whose grandfather owns Dolly a small plane that flys around the islands in Scotland.
Morag has left Scotland for a life of flying around Europe, when an incident knocks her off course. As she is cleared to fly her grandfather takes ill and needs her to help the family business.

She ends up in a storm and needing to land on an island in an emergency, fortunately she lands on an island with one person who is looking after the house on the island doing work with the birds on the island.

Morag discovers herself and heals as she is stranded with Gregor for a few days.

Thank you to Netgalley, Jenny Colgan and the publishers for letting me read this book for an honest review.

Completely unexpected change of direction from one of my favourite authors Jenny Colgan!! After being a fan of her books for many years now, I’m always in awe at how brilliantly she picks up a new subject and run’s with it to the best places, giving us fresh vistas and characters to imagine and be with.
Morag is a pilot and has been recovering from a near miss in the skies, but has now passed with an all clear to fly again on the simulator so she can take up her dream job in Dubai with her steady and unusual for her boyfriend. When her grandfather is ill she heads back to Scotland to support his business with the shortest flights between the isles. Meeting up with old friends and relatives……..Will the Scottish isles win her back or will she still escape to her dream job, if it is still her dream….
Gorgeous holiday escape to the isles of Scotland!! Beautiful writing, beautiful scenery, comfort reading at its very best!! Loved it!! Warm hearted, gentle and a little quirky!! Neil’s relatives are there too!!
Thank you NetGalley and Sphere publishing for the early read!! I absolutely loved it!!

A lovely twist on Colgan's familiar Scottish set stories, this original plot features a family airline and a nervous pilot who needs help to get back to her beloved blue skies. Well researched and beautifully written with a real love for sweeping Scottish scenery.

I've been a fan of Jenny Colgan for over half my life now, but her books never grow stale. From the charming romance of the Scottish islands to the comedy of her earlier books, Jenny Colgan never fails to delight her readers.

The Summer Skies was no exception. Featuring pilot Meg and grumpy loner Gregor, it's so much more than your standard chick-lit. Meg had it all, with a glittering career as a pilot, until a horror event brutally knocks her confidence. She doesn't feel ready to take the reins, until a call to help out her grandad with his plane shuttle service draws her back home.

What ensues is both expected and unexpected. Yes there's a 'will-they-won't-they' scenario going on, but there's so much more to it. Meg is re-examining her whole existence, and Gregor at time is more of a hindrance than a help. Can being stranded on a remote Scottish island help Meg to make some decisions?

I loved The Summer Skies, the setting and circumstances is so different from anything I have read before, and you can't help but be swept along by it all. I'll definitely be reading this again!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I absolutely loved this new book by Jenny Colgan.

Morag has loved her job, that of a pilot, but she’s had a bad experience whilst she was flying in the sky.

Slowly, as she’s begins to get her life back together, she heading back to the Scottish isles, a place she loves, but wasn’t planning to go live there.

Things don’t go to plan, and due to a storm, she’s landed on an island, with just one person living on it. So, will being left without any contact from those she knows, help her realise the things that are important in her life?

I highly recommend this book.

Jenny Colgan did it again! Ugh…this was a great escapist story. It was so special to get my first ever ARC of one of my favourite authors!
What a beautiful story it was! Just like other Jenny Colgan books this one had amazing descriptions of faraway lands; typical cozy and calm vibes; funny, sweet, and relatable characters; sweet light-hearted and fairytale-y romance; a wonderful family history. This book took my mind off things and transferred me far far away. It was one of those experiences when I could almost feel the sunshine and the storm described in the story on my skin... I could feel the smooth fur of Frances the goat under my fingertips and hear the scream of Barbara the chicken (absolutely loooved Barbara the chicken!) Like all Jenny Colgan books this one felt like home. And once again, it made me want to go travel around Scotland and be consumed by its unstable weather, and lie curled up in front of a fire, and just doze off for a bit... I liked Morag and Gregor a lot! Although I could not personally relate to them, they were a fun bunch to read about and had such a sweet relationship building. For those who's into book boyfriends...Gregor is the sweetest man! A man of a few words, when he speaks he does it beautifully. I loved his personality and his outlook on life, his intelligence and a bit of a cheek. Definitely worth reading about.
The only issue I had with this book was that it came and went way too fast. It almost felt like I didn’t have time to process everything and then BAM it was over. I wished that Morag and Gregor spent a little bit more time together exploring the island and each other *eyebrow wiggle*. I also wished we had a little bit more insight into both of their back stories. Even though we pretty much learn all the main and important aspects, I can’t help but wish to hear more. I guess I just overall wish to read more interactions between them. As great as it was, it felt like a trailer, and I want all two and a half hours 4D experience of them!
Overall, this is a great book especially to bring with you on a summer holiday. It has sweet relatable characters, adventures, strong female lead, heartwarming romance, and a beautiful sweet happy end. Definitely get it if you need a nice pick-me-up story.

This stand alone book is very different from Jenny’s usual series. This was a really interesting read about a female Pilot from a remote Scottish Island. It was amazing to find out how some people thrive out there in the peace and quiet and deal with their personal issues and loneliness. I loved it, give this one a try.

As I have always been a fan of Jenny’s I looked forward to reading this book.
It was a bit of a slow burn set on another Scottish island, once it got going it was an enjoyable read.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Morag is a successful uptight pilot, trying to get her confidence back after an incident, who goes back home to help out with the family business in the Scottish islands. At first her head is set on the idea of living with her boyfriend in glamorous Dubai… but things may change…
Loved the character of Gregor and the family dynamics. Slow to start but the usual Colgan good feelings at the end ❤️
