What an incredibly slow start to a book, I struggle to see how most people will not just put it on the dnf pile other than die hard Jenny Colgan fans. Sorry to much repetition about Morag not been able to fly and plane terminology. Thank you netgalley for the advance copy

Wowser! That is one fantastic book, about a flying, and regaining your confidence and finding your place in the world.

Once again Jenny Colgan has transported me to the small islands of Scotland, and conjured up a setting that is wild, remote, fairly dangerous in some weather conditions, and made me want to visit them myself, despite really being a person who definitely prefers non remote places.

I was gripped throughout and found this to be an addictive and easy story to read, while being totally absorbed to the extent I was petrified I would miss my stop on the tube, as I was so involved. Especially during the more dramatic scenes.

I was also in some respects quite glad I wasn't reading this while I was flying, as that may have unnerved me slightly. But wow the descriptions of flying, and the feelings it evokes in Morag is spellbinding.

And when stranded on a remote island which only has one hermit like inhabitant, well the book really ramps up from there, but in a very calm and serene manner, as we get glimpses of what a very different life would really be like.

Jenny Colgan has an innately brilliant talent at writing books that I can't get enough of, and that perhaps bring different aspects of life into my thoughts.

This is almost certainly amongst her best books, and I believe I've read them all! There aren't many authors I can say that about.

Can't wait to see what she writes next.

Thank you to Sphere and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was a lovely, laid back book, set mainly on one of the Scottish archipelago islands.

Morag is a pilot working on large commercial planes, but after an accident involving a smaller aircraft (not their fault) she is now having a serious 'wobble' and having trouble flying, so when her grandfather falls ill and needs her to help at their small family flying business she goes home to Scotland for a short while to help.

While there a storm hits while she is flying and she ends up crash landing (safely) on one of the small islands where there is just one person living, the ornithologist looking after the island for the season, Gregor. She ends up staying longer than planned as the storm knocks out the electricity and it takes a while to get back home.

Gregor reluctantly takes Morag in to his house and they rub along, mostly annoying each other, as Morag is very much hands-on and Gregor isn't! But as the time goes on Morag starts appreciating her surroundings more and wondering why she left Scotland in the first place, and her and Gregor start to get on more.

As much as I love technology I can really see the appeal (sometimes!) of being forced to have absolutely no technology around to distract you, and just completely de-stressing. No emails, no phone calls, no TV, nothing to worry about as there's absolutely nothing you can do about it, just enjoy your surroundings and make do, not something most of us really do these days.

The whole book had a lovely chilled feeling to it, with some very funny characters, including an amusing chicken (Barbara) and goat (Frances). Very enjoyable read.

I have to admit, it’s been a while since I read a book by Jenny Colgan. But something about the title and the premise really drew me in.

Morag is a pilot who has been through some trauma and is just getting back on her feet when she meets Hayden. He seems perfect, a little boring, but that’s good she’s had all the excitement she could possibly want. And life is chugging along quite nicely with him, thank you very much.

Morag has dreams of doing long-haul flights so when a job comes up which would have her based in Dubai she’s definitely going to jump at it, and even better, Hayden has been offered a job there and he’s going out to look at what a life there will be like.

Perfect timing, because her grandfather has taken ill and needs someone to go to the islands off the northernmost point of Scotland to look after his short-haul airline, a lifeline for the people who live on the islands and the start of Morag’s dream.

Morag’s return home proves to be exactly what she needs and it’s a revelation for her, in so many ways.

I loved Morag, she was strong but vulnerable and her interactions with everyone from Gregor to Frances were everything I could have asked for.

I found myself rooting for her to return home from the moment we got the story of her family’s business and how it came about. I could understand why she would want to move away and spread her wings (almost literally) but the moment she stepped back on the island with her grandfather and Polly (the plane) there was this feeling that she had come home, however much she was mentally denying it.

This is a wonderful story, full of heartbreaking revelations and wonderful discoveries and I could almost smell the sea, the tang of salt in the air and the violent beauty of the islands. I can see why she was so resistant to the idea of sharing it with anyone.

This is a light summer read about flying, set on the Scottish Isles and is a standalone story. It is a story about returning home, finding out what does and doesn't make you happy, and then getting your life back on track.

Morag is an airline pilot, it's in her blood. Her family runs a service on the Scottish islands, hopping from one island to another, being their lifeline. But, Morag wanted bigger things and flew big planes across Europe from London. When she goes home to help out her Grandfather, she starts to see things in a different light. I liked Morag, although she does jump to conclusions a lot and I did want her to stop and think for a minute sometimes. All the characters are well written and, mostly, very likeable.

I struggled with the first half of this book, the start felt a little slow with an awful lot of description and I found it hard to relate to Morag. However, once it got going and more characters came into the plot I got really engrossed in the storyline and thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's definitely worth a read.

Being a fan of Jenny Colgan meant that I was thrilled to get my hands on this, stand-alone novel. It’s a lovely read, with characters that you warm to instantly. I really enjoyed it.

I love Jenny colgan.
I have read everything she has ever written and this seemed to be very different so I was worried.
I needn't have been. I loved it. I was slowly drawn in and now want to fly a plane even though I'm lazy and fat.

I can't wait for the audio book to come out so I can listen to it while I'm at work.

And Jenny Colgan does it again! Another binge-worthy gorgeous tale that gives you a big hug in an afternoon's reading. I did feel it took longer than usual to get going but when it did the story had you by the throat and I couldn't put it down. I again want to move to the Scottish Isles but this time I want to fly. The descriptive passages about flying and clouds and the skies are just lovely. I do hope there is more to come for this lovely bunch of characters!

Thank you for the ARC. I enjoyed this book - lots of good points and the opening with the little plane incident was arresting. The whole theme of a family airline was different too - I liked that. Jenny Colgan is one of my favourite writers but for me this lacked the sparkle of many of her other books eg the Mure series. Although normally I like books in 1st POV, I like Jenny's writing more when it's in 3rd.

This is a five-star read that will have your heart flying. I adore this author, so knew I would enjoy this one, but honestly, I loved it so much more than I could imagine. My emotions were all over the place, I understood where Morag was coming from, the history that runs through the story keeps you hooked. The setting just makes my heart want to wandering, I have had the islands on my bucket list for ages, and I really think that this may push me to get booking. If you need to be swept away, then this is the one for you. Jenny Colgan is an author you can rely on to create a really amazing story, that will warm your heart and mend your soul.

I always enjoy a Jenny Colgan book and this one is no different, I am openly not a fan of flying so wasn't sure I would like this one but the excellent writing describing countryside and images meant that I forgot about the flying element of the book. As normal there is humour, sadness and happiness in this book that I will definitely be recommending to others when it is released.

It's been a while since I've Jenny's book but this one seemed right up my street. Let me introduce you to Morag, a girl who seems to have everything but one tragic accident changes her forever.

Returning home in order to look after her grandfather, we find ourselves in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. I have to admit I do have a weakness for stories set there. Now with her grandfather out of action, it's down to Morag to pull on her big girl boots and take over her grandfather's job. Nothing could go wrong right?

Where would the fun be if I told you what happened. Let's just say it involves a man by the name of Gregor, and fireworks being to fly. But sometimes when your stuck together, you need to start working together or else problems being to arise.

Another fanastic novel by Jenny that showcases Scotland and it's many islands.

I've enjoyed all of Jenny's books, and this book is no exception. It's a feel good, easy read, chick lit book.

The lead character, a pilot, has lost her confidence after an incident when flying. She ends up in Scotland to help out at the family business and ends up finding herself in the beautiful islands.

I always love Jenny Colgan’s books but this is her best yet. Such lovely characters and beautiful surroundings it was easy to lose myself in this story. I really didn’t want it to end! I would love to hear more of Morag and Gregor’s story. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book

I absolutely adored this book and the likeable characters, including the animals - who wouldn’t want a chicken called Barbara or a goat called Fraser?? Morag is feisty who thinks she’s heading for the happy ever after with her boyfriend, HR consultant Hayden, but things don’t always go to plan.
After going home to Scotland to help her grandfather’s flying business, Morag finds herself questioning everything about her life, especially after spending a few days cut off on a remote island with grumpy Gregor with no heating, lighting or working radio………..
Feel good fiction at its best from the Queen of Scottish based fiction, Jenny Colgan! Please please Jenny, can you make this book into a series with a range of cuddly Barbara’s to go with?!?!. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jenny Colgan can do no wrong in my eyes. This is another belter of a book. This will not disappoint.

I’ve loved Jenny Colgan’s books for a long time, yet I have to admit that I struggled to get into this one for a short while, although it was well-worth it by the end.

I know it was necessary to set the scene for the character’s story arc, and for us to understand the magnitude of the plot, but I found the detail and repetitive nature of how Morag loved being a pilot, and why, too much. I found myself skimming over some of the overly-effusive paragraphs in the first third of the book!

HOWEVER! Once the book reached the storm (no spoilers!), I was fully invested and couldn’t put it down, and actually read it within 2 days from thereon in.

Colgan has a wonderful way to her writing style, and I felt once there was more of her fantastic dialogue, the book really took off (excuse the pun), and I was invested in the characters and the outcome much more.

Would definitely recommend to lovers of Colgan, and to anyone who wants a little bit of escapism to the far North of Scotland!

As a huge fan of Jenny Colgan's books, I was delighted to receive a free advance copy of The Summer Skies in exchange for an honest review.

This warm and entertaining novel, takes the reader up in the skies and down to a remote Scottish island. Jenny Colgan's love of this area really shines through in the writing and I particularly appreciated the evocation of the natural world. You can always count on Jenny Colgan for strong and relatable characters that you find yourself rooting for. I'll definitely be recommending The Summer Skies as a perfect summer read!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for making my day by allowing me to read this early.
