I just reviewed The Summer Skies by Jenny Colgan. #TheSummerSkies #NetGalley
Got to hold my hands up and admit that I went into this book not being neutral as I’ve always loved Jenny Colgan books.
Her ability to write rom-com’s is legendary and this doesn’t disappoint.
A romance novel with plenty of warm fuzzy funny stuff thrown in and Jenny Colgan does it brilliantly every time.

I am a big fan of Jenny Colgan so was really happy to receive this ARC .
Morag is an airline pilot recovering from a traumatic experience and returns home to Scotland.
She goes on a journey of self discovery and, of course, finds love along the way
I found this book hard to get into, especially the first part with lots of reference to flying.

I just love Jenny Colgan stories set on remote Scottish islands! As a fan of the Mure series, I was excited to get a copy of The Summer Skies and to immerse myself in the windswept, beautiful world she creates…..this one did not disappoint!
The story has a smaller cast of characters than some of her other novels but they were so likeable (with a few exceptions) and I hope we get to meet them again in later books.
We follow Morag, a pilot recovering from a tragedy, as she tries to overcome her fears and decide where her future lies. Her journey kept me turning the page and I have to admit, I got a little teary-eyed at the end.

Very easy read and great book describing the islands however I did find myself getting distracted at the start with all the flying stuff

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I have read and enjoyed most of Jenny Colgan's books, however, I really struggled with this one to start. I persevered though and despite a not so promising start I did enjoy the second half of the book.

I love Jenny Colgan books, but something about this one particularly captured my heart. I was rooting for our main character and when the forced proximity trope with a brooding silent guy kicked in, well… 👌. If you’re a fan of romantic comedy books, you need to check this out (and all of Jenny’s books for that matter). I was feeling a little unwell and sorry for myself when I started reading this, but Jenny cheered me right up. The tag line on a lot of Jenny’s books is ‘escape with Jenny Colgan’ and that’s exactly what I did with this book. Sheer perfection and I now want a chicken called Barbara!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5 stars)

Morag is an excellent and ambitious pilot; when her grandfather falls ill, she temporarily takes over the family airline company in the Scottish Highlands and supplies the islands with planes. After an unexpected accident, she finds himself on a deserted island, where the ornithologist Gregor temporarily resides. And, as you might expect, they don't get along at all.
This is a story about returning to one's roots, finding oneself, and finding love. The atmosphere in the novel is wonderful; the tension between the main characters is expected; only the beginning is slow and perhaps too focused on the detailed explanation of planes and flying. We're not used to that at Jenny Colgan's books! :)
Enjoyable and cozy read.
3,5/5

I have read all of Jenny Colgans books so was looking forward to this, even though I’m used to reading books of hers which are part of a series. I wasn’t sure after reading the outline of the story what to expect but i loved it. The story focuses on Morag who is a likeable strong female character with a fantastic job as a pilot. She has had some difficulties but throughout the book we find her working through everything and ending up where she is supposed to be.
It started off slowly but after a few chapters I was engrossed and my heart was in my mouth towards the end (no spoilers) hoping for a safe and happy ending. I liked the fact there was romance but also other elements which the story focused on. I would definitely recommend buying this book and I’m hoping this may be the beginning of a new series for Jenny .
Thanks to Netgalley, Little brown book group UK and Jenny Colgan for an advanced copy in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.

This was a lovely story. Set on the Scottish Islands. The remoteness made you think. The setting was beautiful .Morag had lost her confidence in flying and this a story of her getting it back. The characters on the plane taxi are lovely and a happy love ending too. Another good book by Jenny Colgen.

I absolutely love that in the notes of this book Jenny apologies that some of the terminology in the book might be incorrect and that is in no part due to all the help and the advice and knowledge that she got from the experts. But that for the drama and suspense of the book. Writing in a certain way that might actually incorrect, actually makes the story more intense.
In this book we meet Morag who come from a heritage of successful pilots. Morag knew that her destiny was calling her and was already written especially when her brother didn't follow the family business way of life. But she also knew that as soon as she took her first flight it was the place that she wanted to be and the careers that she wanted to take.
Everything was going really well. But the book opens with Morag going through steps to get her back in the pilot seat after a tragic accident happened. Morag is traumatized by it. But she just wants to be back in the air and back doing something that she loves. Feeling that if she can just get back into the job. That everything will be a okay again. But we all know that really doesn't work at all.
When Morag has been signed off and has been signed up to do long haul flights. She gets a call from her family to say that her grandad has been taken ill and that she is needed back in the Scottish Highlands to go back and fly the little internal flights plane. In the little old plane taking locals across to Archipelago.
But then one day disaster strikes and Morag is forced to crash land the plane on a remote island. Suddenly she is far away from civilisation and completely all alone. It is here that she meets Gregor who is in charge of taking care of the island for the season. As always happens there is a tossle, a disagrement and the pair not getting along at the start. But that's all due to past hurts, past secrets and things that they both need to deal with. But could this be the situation that they both need to be able to sort their lives out.
Another great book by Jenny.

Three and a half stars.
Morag's family, more specifically her grandfather, runs a small airline ferrying people between remote Scottish islands. She has the flying bug, but her interest is larger passenger jets criss-crossing Europe, until a tragic accident puts her and the pilot on leave pending an assessment of their ability to continuing flying. Although she loves the remote islands, Morag's heart is definitely on the mainland and she has no intention of taking over the airline when her grandfather retires. Although Morag passes the tests with flying colours, and snags a date with the HR consultant assessing her to boot, she knows deep down that she is scared to take control of an aircraft and decides that she will take a sideways promotion, eschewing piloting European short-haul for being co-pilot on long-haul aircraft.
Before she takes her final test, in a flight simulator, Morag is called back to the Scottish Highlands, her grandfather is ill and she is needed to hold the fort. Even then, Morag manages to take the co-pilot role, ferrying locals to and from the larger islands and extreme sportsmen to the remote islands until a forced landing on a remote island and a freak storm leave her stranded with what might be the grumpiest ornithologist on earth.
This had an unusual, one might even say unorthodox, start. In fact I couldn't believe it was a Jenny Colgan novel because it was so far from what I've come to expect from her. And yet that isn't fair because she also covers some hard-hitting emotional issues in her other books, its just that they are wrapped up in the cosy small-town vibe that I forget it's not all home-made brownies, cute sheep, and lashings of ginger beer.
It's got romance, a goat, beautiful scenery, a hen party, home baking, flying family, and discovering what home really means. Oh! It's a Jenny Colgan book after all LOL.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Jenny Colgan does it again with a fresh set of characters to explore this book takes us on adventure, I loved every single page of this book and HUGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Another charming and lovely read from Jenny - always reliable for a cosy book.
Morag is a pilot, from a family of pilots, so there was never any doubt that she would enter into the family business. Growing up, helping out with the family’s flight route on the highest points of Scotland to the islands, Morag knows being a pilot is all she wants to do. After flight school she moves onto the bigger airlines until a freak accident grounds her and leads her back home whilst she waits for her promotion interview.
Jenny describes the Scottish highlands and the people beautifully. Her characters are ones that readers can identify with easily and the story plays out well.
Already looking forward to the next book from Jenny!

I've read all of Jenny Colgan's books so far so I was excited to review this latest addition. It was an enjoyable, gentle read about a female pilot who is facing a crisis in confidence after a near miss whilst flying. There is beautiful scenery, great food and a brewing romance with an ornithologist on a remote Scottish isle. I wasn't gripped but it was a nice read.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have really enjoyed this authors previous novels and have devoured them all and this was no exception. Great storyline and great characters. Loved it.

An enjoyable read from Jenny Colgan.
Morag is a pilot; she was always destined to be a. Pilot but when a bear miss shakes her to her core she starts to doubt whether she really can be a pilot.
Called home to assist on the family 'airline', of you can call one old plane that, to hop between the archipelago, events happen that change Morag's outlook significantly.
In part, it's very predictable and follows a pattern not unsurprising of Colgan's writing. However, the aeronautical side of the story gives the chick lit story a definite twist, and the description of the gorgeous nature is soothing for the soul.

Jenny Colgan has done it again! Picked this book up and literally couldn’t put it down.
Morag is a pilot and comes from a long line of pilots. Its her passion. Unfortunately, it isn't the greatest way to meet the love of your life. Airports aren't the most romantic place in the world, and neither are cockpits....
When something dramatic happens at work, she has to reassess her job, her lifestyle and what she wants.
You will fall in love with the characters, the scenery, the animals (apparently in Scotland you have pet goats, not dogs!) and hopefully, with a bit of luck, Morag will fall in love too.
#TheSummerSkies by Jenny Colgan is published on June 8th 2023. Pre-order now.
And I have to say, I do hope this will turn into a series, I would love more!

I found lots to like in this book but the big disappointment for me was the love triangle which wasn’t really a love triangle. The love interest that the heroine discovered at the beginning of the book lasted for most of the book and then she discovered he wasn’t what she though he was and ended it and then got together with the guy we’d always known should be the hero.
I really don’t like love triangles. And I certainly didn’t like this one.
The author writes well but I felt this book was a little slow, overpadded and pedestrian. Still an enjoyable read and I’d recommend it.
Received a free copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Jenny Colgan's books are always a lovely read and this stand-alone story was no exception.
Morag, a pilot, returns home to Scotland to help cover her grandfather's island-hopper business while he's unwell - however, a recent bad experience has left her unwilling to fly the plane, and she has no intention of staying any longer than necessary. She's also apart from new boyfriend, HR man Hayden, who's taken a job in Dubai.
Then there's grumpy, reclusive ornithologist Gregor (you can't really get more reclusive than living all by yourself on a remote island). Regular readers of Jenny's books will not be at all surprised that circumstances contrive to throw him and Morag together...
The pilot stuff adds an interesting dimension, though Jenny admits that despite expert advice, she may not have got everything right. (I wouldn't know.) It does allow for some gorgeous descriptions of the landscape and the experience of flying.
A really enjoyable read. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review!

I'm not going to hark on about my love for Jenny Colgan because if you've paid any attention to my previous reviews - you'll know that I ADORE her. So when I saw that her next release was available to review on NetGalley I was crossing all of my fingers in the hope that I'd be approved... And I was!
It was strange but lovely to be reading a stand alone novel of Jenny's after following the lives of those on Mure and Kirrinfief for so long but the story of Morag and her family in the highest reaches of Scotland still felt like home to me.
Following in the footsteps of my Father and Grandad, Morag is a pilot. But she long ago decided that the little runner plane that was used by locals to island hop wasn't enough for her. After an incident that's left her more than a little bit shaken, she's struggling to get back in the cockpit but thanks to the safe and dependable Hayden, things are looking up for her. But as her Grandad comes down ill with the flu, she's called back to her home town to navigate their plane, Dolly, across the islands. When storm brings the plane to an emergency landing on one of the most remote islands, Morag becomes an unexpected visitor for Gregor - a Glaswegian ornithologist until the weather steadies and she can fix her plane.
This was a delightful story of finding your way and facing your demons. Another gem from Jenny and it was lovely to find myself back in the Scottish Highlands.
