This book was archived before I could download it but I was able to find it in the book store instead - the illustrations are beautiful. I love the message of this story for young kids. It's an easy read and perfect for a quick story before bedtime. I would recommend.

It is a story of a mermaid (reminded me of Ariel from Little Mermaid Cartoon) who was equally cute and brave. She in her realm of getting bravado feel, went on to wander the ocean depths and exploring her will. When she encountered with a shark eventually after being acquainted with other species of ocean on her way, she got scared and came back to her parents realizing that she too has some fear cells.
It is a good story telling the readers that one shouldn't be over-confident but be practical about everything. Illustrations were apt and colourful.

I really enjoyed this book and so did my 6 y/o. We follow Mellie along her journey through the ocean, as she continuously states she is not afraid of anything she comes across. Despite her parents warnings, she carries on. The ending was really the key to this book, it shows that it’s okay to be brave, and confident, but also to heed your parents (or peers) warnings and think before doing.
The illustrations were absolutely beautiful, and fitting for the story.

Our thoughts~ we loved this book from the cover on the front to the beautiful words and illustrations within, to the cover on the back. This book is about a young mermaid who puts on a front of not being afraid of anything, by the end of the book she realizes it's okay to be scared. The book was mixed with rhymes and color and such a fun read for my daughter who not only understood the book but enjoys pretty much anything mermaids.

Mellie the Mermaid is NOT Scared of ANYTHING is a really long book title. Mellie takes off an exploring adventure similar to the story 'Going on a Bear Hunt' to prove she's NOT afraid. This one doesn't seem to flow as well, in my opinion. I do think with The Little Mermaid live-action movie releasing soon, children are absolutely going to want all the Mermaid books they can get their hands on. And many of them will enjoy this one. It does have beautiful illustrations.

The title and cover of this book completely stole my heart. The details of the cover are adorable and soft, drawing you in and the cover just told my heart there was more to the story and I needed to read it. The illustrations are beautiful and eye catching, my children loved them. I loved the way the story normalized being scared, as we all have experienced it at one point in time. It let my children see and help understand that anyone can be scared and that it is ok to feel this way. But that we can also test that fear and see if we can change that feeling. Great story all around.

My niece (four years old) is obsessed with anything and everything that involves mermaids, and so when I saw this title, I had to pick it up to read it with her. I also loved the idea of a book about a mermaid who is so young who says that she isn't afraid of anything, only to end up having to come to terms with her fear along the way as she realizes that there are always things out there that might scare you. Right away, we enjoyed Mellie's relationship with her Mum and Dad. They wanted her to be careful of the things in the "deep, deep blue" that might be scary for one reason or another, but they didn't hold her back from exploring and trying to see more of the world. They even seemed to encourage her to stick to her "I'm not scared of anything" motto despite her tendency to come off as a bit too confident in that bravery, letting her learn lessons in her own way while still being there for her. From there, Mellie's adventure takes you on a fun trip through the depths of the ocean to see all sorts of undersea flora and fauna, from starfish and kelp to whales and eels, and by the end, the reader and Mellie both get to learn a valuable lesson about how it's okay to be afraid sometimes and you can still go out and explore as long as you're careful.

My niece loved the art and the story of Mellie the Mermaid: Is NOT Scared of ANYTHING, and for her part she gave it a five star rating and read it with me again right after we finished. At times, the book rhymed beautifully and flowed very well, while at others it almost turned a bit more lyrical, which wasn't a bad thing by any means, but it did confuse my niece a time or two when she was making note of the rhymes and then the book would suddenly stop rhyming for a few stanzas only to pick it back up again. While it isn't my favorite children's book I've read, I did enjoy the story, and the art and colors were beautiful. I'm glad that my niece got to see a little girl who was brave but ended up learning to be more humble about that bravery and that she gets to take that valuable lesson with her going forward.

This book was absolutely adorable and I LOVE the illustrations of it. It has a good "moral of the story" for young readers. I will absolutely be getting a physical copy for my 3 year old!

The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the writing. I'm used to books rhyming in a certain way and this one just didn't do it. Some words did rhyme but it just didn't flow as beautifully as I'm used to. BUT I still really liked it and recommend it for preschool-grade 1 children. :)

This is a slightly rhyming story about a young mermaid who isn't afraid of anything and goes off on her own to explore a shipwreck, where she discovers she is, in fact, afraid of sharks. The rhymes weren't in couplets so when they didn't happen it wasn't jarring, but when they did happen, it just felt fun and whimsical.

The illustrations were full of cool colors being set deep in the ocean. I thought it was interesting that the adult mermaids wore stereotypical attire while Mellie had a whole t-shirt for a top. I'm sure it was because she's a child, but I noticed. This was a fun read so I'd be okay reading it a few times. Overall I give this book 4.37 out of 5 stars.

My daughter enjoyed the book and liked the story and pictures. Overall for me I felt some of the rhyming wasn’t as smooth as it could be, almost clunky. I got fed up with saying “the deep deep blue” as well after a bit. The story was cute and I can see the appeal for little ones. All the illustrations were vibrant and fun and certainly made the book appealing.

Mellie the Mermaid Is NOT Scared of ANYTHING is a beautifully illustrated picture book. Visually, it definitely grabs you and draws you into the underwater world. We love the idea of Mellie being over confident and keen to swim off into the deep sea on her own – showing how she wants to be independent and not scared of anything. There’s a lovely moment where she does get scared, and frantically swims back to her mum and dad for safety. This is reminiscent of ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’, where Mellie traces her steps (or should I say… swim) back through the smaller dangers.


With my parent ‘hat’ on, I would have liked to have seen a much stronger sense of what lesson had been learnt, with this woven through the ending of the story. And also, a clearer explanation of what mum meant when she says Mellie can still go into the deep, as long as she’s safe and comes back. But, overall it is a pretty picture book that little ones are likely to enjoy.

SUPER CUTE! Not only are the illustrations adorable but the storyline is sweet! Mellie is trying to be brave and learn how to swim into the deep deep blue sea and realizes she wants to be back with her family where she feels most safe! Super sweet book that I would love to recommend to anyone with small children!

Started off cute but felt rushed at the end. There wasn’t really a big message. The girl got scared and ran home. I was hoping for a longer hunt towards the “it’s okay to be afraid sometimes” message but was let down by the “you can still go out just come home safe” message

This is a wonderful book for young readers. Well written for beginner readers with rhyming words to help engage beginner readers and help them identify words more easily..
And a great storyline about being brave and being afraid are both okay, but being safe is always best.

This book was okay. I loved the theme of not being scared, but I felt like the conclusion of the book left a lot to be desired and didn’t teach the reader much.

She wasn't scared of any of them but after arriving at the ship she discovers that she must be careful while swimming out in the deep, deep blue because as brave as she is, there's always possible danger.

My 3 and 5 year old boys really enjoyed this book. They loved the rhyming and the cute and colorful illustrations. This would be a great book for young readers.

This was cute! I liked the rhymes. Cute illustrations and a nice story that it’s ok to be scared and still want to explore.

Millie reminds me of the Little Mermaid. Her parents keep telling her to becareful when wandering around the ocean floor. After many incounters with various fish and objects Millie decides she is not afraid of anything. Millie then faces a shark and swims all the way back to her home to her parents where they mentioned they thought she was not afraid of anything. Millie learns that she can wander wherever she pleases but can always come back to her parents for comfort when she’s scared.
