This book was really gripping in the first couple chapters whilst the mother and daughter are hiding their lives, however, it got kind of boring once you got into the mystery part of things. I think this book aims at a younger audience than is published for? But, it’s still a good read.

This thriller, suitable for older teens and up, is so good. I really liked that this was written from a teenagers perspective. That added to the tension. There were many twists which kept me entertained. Thank you to Bonnier Books UK and NetGalley for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

As a huge horror fan, this book really intrigued me from the synopsis alone and it did not disappoint. All of the characters, especially Harlow, felt unique and real, and I loved the queer representation (something which i feel like isn't done enough in horror!). The plot twists throughout definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, even if the action was a little slow paced in parts. I do think I was slightly out of the intended age range for this but I still really enjoyed!

This was a good mystery! I got hooked real quick and every guess I had was thrown out with every piece of info that was revealed. I kinda wish it got to it sooner, because it took at least twenty-percent of the book until the story caught up with the premise. The beginning was Harlow alone contemplating her mom's death and the mystery surrounding her whole life. I feel like it should have started with Harlow at Crescent Ridge and maybe the details of her life told in past tense or flashbacks so we as readers could understand Harlow's life before rather than having it all told to us in exposition before mom died.

Another thing I wished was more clear was that this book is really sapphic! Not only is Harlow a lesbian (Yes, the word is used in the text), but a lot of the major women characters are sapphic, including her own mom. Harlow does have a brief romance with a girl, but it's not a major focus and they don't even get together by the end, which is probably for the best. The last scene between them did feel really hasty and rushed, as it was the last couple pages of the book. I wish their conclusion was better handled.

But, overall, this was a good read. It really is best to go in blind and try to guess as the mystery goes on; it's what made the book an enjoyable experience for me.

I thought this was okay. The plot was intriguing enough to keep me interested, but I felt like it took slightly too long to really get going. Once we got to the town and the odd new characters start popping up it really had me, but I just wish we got there sooner. Intriguing characters.

Also, I have literally nothing against books with an LGTBQ+ skew, but there is an unrealistic amount of lesbians in the book. I only mention it because it dragged me out of the story -- like, wait, she's into women too?

An intriguing mystery, told through the eyes of a young woman who is desperate to understand why she’s spent her whole life running from something.

A nice introduction to mysteries for readers of YA.

Looking forward to more from Rebecca Barrow

Cora and her daughter Harlow never stay in the same place for long. Harlow has no idea what or who they are running from. She was brought up believing that her mum had no other family. When Cora is killed in a car crash Harlow follows her mother’s instructions that she has had instilled in her growing up. As Harlow finds her way to her mother’s family home she is determined to find the reasons for them being in the run.
When Harlow finds out that Cora had two sisters she is determined to make contact and find out why her mother kept the past hidden from her.
This was a good read, I found some of the characters were a little hard to like, considering how young Harlow was I struggled to understand how she was able to cope being left on her own. The book was an easy read with a great ending.

I absolutely loved this book!! It was gripping the whole way through. The storyline, characters, settings and plot twists were all thought out wonderfully. I was not expecting the plot twists!

I would recommend this to people who love the thriller genre.

The plot twists left me shocked. I really wish I could read this again for the first time.

I very much enjoyed Rebecca Barrow's 'Bad Things Happen Here' (twists, corruption, intrigue - it is a great read!) and so I was excited to get to read 'And Don't Look Back'. Boy, am I glad that I did as Barrow has stepped everything up a notch for this incredible read. The tragic beginning of the story is brutal and painful but draws you into Harlow's world. Ever since she can remember, Harlow and her mother have been running. They will up and leave a place with no notice with so much frequency that the process of changing identity is now second nature to them both. Only this time, Harlow's mother dies in a horrific car accident, leaving Harlow alone in the world. What were they running from all these years? And is the only way to end it to face up to a traumatic past?

I loved this. Trust me when I saw you will NEVER see the truth behind the reason for the secrecy coming. Even up until the last page, Barrow is so skilled at laying the groundwork for what you think you know and then just pulling the rug from beneath you. It is difficult to give any story details without revealing the literal and metaphorical road Harlow goes down following her mother's death. I can vaguely say that the characters Harlow meets are dangerous, twisted and all keeping secrets - it is gripping. We also get some flashback insights into the past but nothing in these is ever as it seems.

You are in safe hands with Barrow penning a thriller. This is gripping and making me long for whatever Barrow will produce next! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a thrilling whirlwind that throws you into the deep end and keeps the pace going as quickly as it can. This is one heck of a young adult mystery read and you won’t be disappointed.

Usually the mysteries in a book reveal themselves and slowly solve themselves, instead And Don’t Look Back throws you into the deep end of mysteries and keeps you barely treading water and the confusion and twists just keep coming. At one point I fully believed I knew where it was going, only to have it turned upside down and realise I had no idea, the best way really. Harlow has always been on the run with her mum, fake names, fake personalities, fake lives, until an accident smashes into them and leaves Harlow alone and struggling for answers she’s wanted all her life. One step closer is one step back and one teenage girl is going up against it all to learn who she is and where she’s from.

A great and hooking mystery. This is fast paced with so many twists and a really well written dual timelines that make the reveals really interesting. I found the premise unique and I didn't see any of the secrets coming. Overall I thought this was a really great book with amazing characters.

This book was a whirlwind, and I'm shocked.

Barrow's doesn't only throw just throw twists at you she keeps them coming and tricks you into wondering what the hell is coming next.

I devoured this book and just wanted to keep reading, to see where this book would end, and it was worth it.

I loved Harlow as a main character, and I loved her even more as a POC character. She was just fab.

The only slight problem with this book was so much of it was just paragraphs upon paragraphs of writing and no breakup of dialogue. I honestly get it she's by herself and running but doesn't know whom from, but it was slightly just a tad too much at times.

The book also goes back to 'before', which gives us more clues, and I liked that, especially considering that twist at the end, I am mindblown.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book!

I was so excited to receive an e-arc of And Don’t Look Back, it did not disappoint!

I love a good mystery and this had me hooked from the first couple of chapters. It was a fast paced page turner.

Harlow, the main character, has a curious and questioning mind. She’s on a mission to find out her families past and secrets and I was fully along for the ride!

The book was told in two timelines, through present time and flashbacks, and I loved that element, it was an interesting way of telling and revealing the story.

Highly recommend if YA mysteries are your type of read!

I throughly enjoyed this book and loved the twists, I like the past and present theme, it made the story flow. I think all families have secrets and I just love to read everybody elses secrets. The characters were weell thought of and I did have "the mother" sussed. I loved the ending, No spoilers here.

This is a page-turner. As the reader follows Harlow from one discovery and one adventure to another, there are twists at every stage - including the very last one, which was unexpected.
Sometimes it's a little girl's dream - the mystery key, the hidden house in the woods, the freedom to do what you want. But at other times it's very dark, and it's dark for both generations, Harlow's and (in the back story) Cora's, which is a tiny bit reminiscent of Virginia Andrews' 'Flowers in the Attic'.
You have to suspend disbelief several times. For instance - while not wanting to give away the plot - the amount of money involved would not be enough for someone to chase someone else across the country for 16+ years. Nor is there such a great reason for someone to keep running.
It's a book that held my interest, but not one that makes me rush to find other books this author has written.
