Dr. Maggie Kendall is a surgeon in a hospital accident and emergency department. One evening before her shift, she says good-bye to her husband, Will, and then leaves for her night shift at the hospital. She is shocked when a gunshot victim who is brought into the hospital is her Will! Will does not survive and his death is ruled a suicide, which is hard for Maggie to accept. Then a letter she receives from beyond the grave written by Will changes everything.

This is the first book I've read by Robert Bryndza. He is known for his Erika Foster series, but this is a standalone thriller. This book started out strong for me and was very intriguing. I wanted to know what the letter meant and what Will was trying to communicate to Maggie. It was a suspenseful story that became somewhat over-the-top, but was still entertaining.

I received this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

They say ‘three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead’ which isn’t helpful if you’re one of the two! In this action packed, fast paced novel, running for her life is what Maggie has to do while trying to figure out a mystery that has taken her husband’s life. Once the race begins, it doesn’t slow down until the bitter end when the one instigator finally gets what’s coming to them. Definitely unputdownable as I couldn’t believe what was happening and couldn’t wait to see what happened next! Treat yourself to this action mystery.

I really enjoyed reading this book, especially because part of the book is happening in my neighborhood. The story developed at a great pace, happenings were perfectly timed just to shock me in the right amount. I was so caught up in reading that I had to stay awake in the middle of the night just to finish it as fast as I could. Characters were well built that it was so easy to imagine them, like them, or hate some of them...not gonna tell who. Robert Bryndza wrote another great thriller and I can't wait to read his next book. I recommend this book to all readers who like to read psychological thrillers that will take you on a good ride with all those turns and twists and surprising endings.

Maggie's husband Will is found dead in their home. she believes it was a robbery gone wrong, but the police believe he shot himself. After Will's death Maggie goes to their home on a small Croatian island. Maggie has a letter from Will with some disturbing clues that she must figure out to see what Will was hiding. That is if she lives long enough to figure it out.

Maggie is at work the night her husband, Will, was rushed into the ER. She was devastated when he did not survive. She assumed that the fatal gunshot to the head was the result of a robbery gone bad and was shocked when the police informed her the gunshot was self-inflicted. She could not accept that he would take his own life. He had so much to live for. A business he loved, a happy marriage and nice homes. But there are things that Will had been keeping from her...

Maggie traveled to their vacation home on a small Croatian island after Will's funeral. There she received a letter in the mail from Will, and her grieving will be put on hold as he sends her on a dangerous scavenger hunt, leaving clues, but where will the clues lead her?

The setting of this book was great. Plus, there is that trapped feeling as if she is on a small island and the weather conditions make it difficult almost impossible to get on or off the island. There are also some dangerous situations as scary things begin happening which would have anyone on edge!

Robert Bryndza writes great series which I enjoy and look forward to reading and I was curious about this stand alone. I enjoyed the sense of tension and unease he created in this book. I also love the trapped feeling of not being able to get off the island. The mystery is a little far-fetched but was entertaining. Maggie was in danger a lot in this book. I would have been freaking out big time, but she handled things fairly well. Was it her training as a doctor dealing with high stress medical emergencies that taught her how to compartmentalize so well, is she just very brave or is so driven with her search for the truth that she does some foolish stuff?

I enjoyed the "how well do you know someone" aspect of this book and the role of secrets. As with his other books, he knows how to utilize settings, the weather, and create tension.

Was this my favorite book by him? No, but I still found it to be enjoyable and a fast read which had me lining up my suspects, pointing my finger at some and wondering who things would turn out.

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza is a well paced story that grabbed my attention from the onset. What starts out as an idyllic weekend, morning sex with her husband, a lazy afternoon before working her evening shift as an ER surgeon turned dark as Maggie realizes that one of the patients in her ER is her husband, who has been shot and is dying. What started out as a wonderful day has turned into a nightmare. I was drawn in by Maggie, and I found myself rooting her her growth and success as she tries to find herself in the "new normal" of her world.

The book is gripping and hard to put down. It easily kept my rapt attention as the story unfolded.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for granting me an advance copy of the book in exchange for my thoughts.

Maggie is an emergency room doctor in London. Her husband, a former forensic physician turned architect is shot and dies after she leaves their home for work. The police say it was suicide but Maggie knows he was not suicidal. She visits their vacation home on an island in Croatia and begins to unravel the truth about her husband and the secret he held. In a series of twists and turns of events Maggie's life is threatened and her very grip on sanity is questioned. The author Robert Bryndza turns a seedy plot into a great story with Maggie being a heroic character. Totally enjoyed this story of murder, politics, friendship, and love. Thanks to #NetGalley#Fearthesilence for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A big fan of the author's Eirka Foster and Kae Marshall series I knew this standalone book would be good but I had no idea just how good.
A full on high octane rollercoaster of a ride of a read.
I am not exaggerating when I say I could feel my heart beat increase as I turned the pages.
Brilliantly plotted you won't be able to put this down once you start it.

Fear The Silence is Robert Bryndza’s first standalone novel, and it captivated me from start to finish. Having previously enjoyed his crime/thriller series featuring Erika Foster and Kate Marshall, I eagerly delved into this new standalone release, curious to see if it would live up to my high expectations. I’m thrilled to report that it does, and then some!

In Fear The Silence, we are introduced to Maggie, a compelling protagonist whose world is shattered when her husband Will is found dead, an apparent victim of suicide. As Maggie collects his last few possessions at their holiday home in Croatia, she stumbles upon a letter that casts doubt on the circumstances surrounding Will’s death. Suddenly, her grief-stricken journey takes a dark and treacherous turn.

Robert Bryndza masterfully weaves a web of tension, with a sense of lurking danger brimming beneath the surface. The Croatian island setting, a character in its own right, heightens the suspense, and there are some moments that feel incredibly suffocating – you’ll know which when you read it!

While Fear The Silence requires a bit more suspension of disbelief compared to Bryndza’s police procedural series, it remains incredibly addictive and engrossing. I found myself racing through the pages, anticipating the unexpected twists and surprises that I have come to expect from Robert Bryndza.

Robert Bryndza’s venture into standalone thrillers proves to be a resounding success – with these compelling characters, relentless suspense, and a mesmerizing setting, Fear the Silence delivers on all fronts. If you’re in search of a fast-paced, intricately plotted novel with a truly atmospheric backdrop, then this is an absolute must-read. I would recommend it to anyone seeking a gripping and twisty read that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Maggie and Will are happily married. Both work in jobs they love. They are ticking along quite nicely until Will is shot at home, victim of a burglary, or so Maggie is lead to believe. So she is shocked when the verdict from the PM is that it appears that Will took his own life. Maggie can't believe that. Not at all. But has to accept, even though she has questions. Many, many questions.
After the funeral and other official bits have been completed Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small island in Croatia, basically to pack his stuff up, as well as get away. But it is there that things really start to kick off when she finds a letter from Will, to be sent after his death by a solicitor... What it contains shocks her to her core...!
And that's all I'm saying as from that point on it really starts to kick off... Occasionally skirting what I would consider to be a tad over the top, it remains just the rights side of credible! It helps that it is so very well plotted and the eventual reasons for what happened do match the escalation... once you get to know it all, that is!
Jam packed with secrets and lies, I absolutely devoured this book from cover to cover. I felt for Maggie every step of the way - those in the right and also wrong directions - and almost felt every emotion too. She could have just gave up. Accepted what it all appeared to be. But no, she had grit and tenacity and, even when faced with danger, which she did, she ploughed through. I loved her, totally!
And the ending, when it came, wow! That's all I'm saying. Another winner from another author firmly on my watch list. Roll on next time!
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A gripping psychological thriller that grabs your attention with dramatic events from the very beginning. Maggie is caught up in a never ending nightmare that starts with the unexpected death of her husband, Will. She is shocked when she learns his death was a suicide.

Weeks later she goes to their summer home in Croatia to close it up, when strange and scary events take place. She’s in danger and unsure of what is really happening or why.

This was my first book by this author and his writing style is gripping. My preference would have been for less descriptive writing with such an adrenaline raising storyline.

The drama is intense and extremely suspenseful.

I received a free ARC from the author and Net Galley; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

I was so looking forward to this book. Previous reviews were great. Robert Bryndza was a new to me author with lots of great reviews on his previous work. And I love a great psychological thriller. Some things were really great about this book. I loved the 47-year old MC Maggie, a trauma surgeon left to figure out her husband's apparent suicide. I loved the holiday home setting in Croatia. The drama and pacing were superb, and I enjoyed the overall writing style. BUT (and it is a big but), the one thing I simply cannot stand in any book is lazy writing. When I say lazy, what I really mean is clear lack of research into the details used to support the story. If an author does not know what they are writing about, they need to research, educate themselves, and/or seek appropriate consult to ensure what they are writing about is accurate. As a pharmacist, I am going to be particularly triggered if the drug details are flat out wrong. In this day and age, every drug has a package insert that can be obtained from a simple Google search which will give you an approved dosage and a list of common side effects. There is no need to throw out a name and make up a dose. There are pharmacists everywhere who would be happy to proofread a few paragraphs of a manuscript to ensure you haven't gone rogue in your Google interpretation. Agatha Christie did it right decades and decades before the public even had access to this information at their fingertips. Use your resources. In chapter 2, the author would have killed the 15-year old stabbing victim by giving him 45 mg of IV morphine, especially since he wasn't even intubated. I won't even get into the issues with a trauma surgeon proceeding to do a clamshell thoracotomy without a secure airway or sedation. No doctor is going to keep their home first-aid kit stocked with several vials of IV morphine and diazepam, nor even have a practical way to order those highly-controlled drugs for personal home use even if they wanted to. Clozapine would never be a drug administered to anyone in a 24-hour emergency psychiatric hold. The 500 mg initial dose the author gave would be enough to knock out the bone marrow of the entire ward, but before that happened, the 4,000-fold overdose of triazolam would have ensured she never woke up for her follow-up lab draw. Maybe I'm being hypercritical, `but if these simple Google-able details are so flatly wrong, what else in the storyline is also just plain garbage? Unfortunately, because of these critical flaws, the story was ruined for me. Otherwise, it could easily have been a 4-star read with more attention to detail.

I'm a fan of Robert Bryndza's crime thrillers, both the Erika Foster series and the Kate Marshall series. This is his first stand alone thriller and he hits it out of the park. Fast paced, well developed characters, and enough twits to keep me guessing how it could end. Highly recommended

Thanks to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for an advanced reader.

I tend to think the term "gripping" is over-used, but it applies 100% to Fear The Silence (IMO).
Maggie is an A&E doctor in London. After spending a wonderful day with her husband, Will, she heads to work, only to have him brought in hours later, suffering what turns out to be a fatal and apparently self-inflicted gunshot to the head. After the blur of his funeral, Maggie heads to their house on a Croatian island to have some time to herself and bring back some family heirlooms that will now pass to one of his siblings. When the post delivers a letter from Will, written 6 years ago, Maggie realizes he had been keeping big secrets from her, secrets that could put her and anyone she shares them with in mortal danger. This is a twisty, pulse-pounding thriller, well plotted, with lots of action.

The author Robert Bryndza is an new author I discovered while searching for a new book to read. It was a standalone title where the plot sounded very interesting. This book did not disappoint.

The character Maggie who is an ER nurse was working when her husband Will comes in with a gunshot wound, She is so shocked she is unable to work on him as he passes away. She later learns that the her husband killed himself. Why? She just left him this morning happy and excited to share the evening. She decides to go to their vacation home on a small Croatian island to close it up for the winter and to pick up a few things to bring back home to London. Once she arrives a letter gets delivered that has a cryptic message and the unnerving things begin to happen. The plot is non stop from there. The secrets, the accidents, and the feeling of being watched propel this story all the way to the very satisfying end.

The writing was solid. The plot was creative, and the need to finish this one was strong from the very beginning. I highly recommend this thrill ride that kept you engaged from the very first page. I will be looking for other books by this author in the future.
Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC of this awesome read.

This started off pretty strong, with great suspense and mystery, but I think it tried to do a bit too much to really work.
*
After her husband's apparent suicide, Maggie travels to their Croatia home to decompress. While there, she receives a letter her husband wrote in case of his death, which suggests he'd feared for his life, making her even more sure that someone killed him, and may be after her.
*
I really liked the atmosphere, the isolated Croatian island, the storm rolling in, the mysterious "accidents" that keep threatening Maggie. I was also engaged in the mystery Maggie was trying to solve...for most of the book. But the last third felt like it was trying to do too much, and it required a lot of suspension of disbelief, and honestly didn't seem necessary and more like filler. (Like a brief paranormal event? ... what?)
*
It also doesn't do red herrings particularly elegantly, so after one conversation that seemed to come out of nowhere, it was pretty obvious who was involved in Maggie's husband's death. It also seemed that nearly all the characters were fairly one-dimensional.
*
I've seen a lot of rave reviews, so I'm probably in the minority on this, but I found it a quick read, but not having a ton of substance.

I loved this stand-alone thriller by @robertbryndza 🖤 The main character, Maggie, is a trauma surgeon in London. One night, her husband is brought into the ED with an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. This event leads Maggie into a dangerous journey where she is not sure who she can trust.

“Fear The Silence” had me hooked from the beginning! It is fast paced and full of plot twists. The villains are surprising and the ending is satisfying.

Thank you Raven Street Publishing and @netgalley for allowing me to read this book ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
