As a huge Robert Bryndza fan, when I saw this book on NetGalley I simply couldn’t request a copy fast enough. But unfortunately I just didn’t like it 😬

Let’s get one thing straight, this is not an Erika Foster novel and neither is it a Kate Marshall. Those books are all epic! This however could’ve been written by a totally different person. It lacked Ron’s signature style and creative writing.

At first I was totally absorbed and actually quite emotional reading about the trauma of loosing a partner in such a horrific way. But then by the time Maggie gets to the the island the book becomes somewhat unbelievable and her character is diluted as she also turns into someone she is not. I think my biggest bug-bear was that when Maggie gets to the island she is promised ‘the key to her future’ but actually her future just gets absolutely ruined and trampled on by everyone around her! Added to that we never really get to the bottom of who/how the original crime played out.

I’m left just a bit disappointed with this book as I know Rob can write so much better. But luckily I appear to be in the minority and if this book is the ‘springboard’ for other to seek out his other two series then the book has already succeeded in my eyes. The best part for me was in the acknowledgments where rob announces his next book is the long anticipated Erika Foster novel 🙌

Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Once again in this stand alone book Robert Bryndza did not disappoint. Having read all the Erika Foster series and Kate Marshall I was excited to read this courtesy of Netgalley as an ARC.
This is an action packed page turning thriller based on the life of Doctor Maggie who lived what she thought was a charmed and happy married life with Will.
Things took a turn of events resulting in a tragedy for Maggie which quickly turned into a life threatening mystery.
Was her husband really what she had thought for 24 long years of marriage or was there more going on in his life? This is what Maggie has to uncover when she is thrown into the situation alone.
There is danger at every turn and Maggie fights her way to the answers!
Loved this read and once again cannot wait for the next release from Robert.

Maggie’s husband Will is shot dead in their home. In shocking news, Will killed himself. Maggie is consumed with grief and full of questions. After the funeral Maggie heads to Croatia and visits their holiday house. There she finds a disturbing letter written by Will pointing to some items hidden in his secret past. As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past. And that someone goes to great lengths to keep Maggie silent.

This book was not lacking twists and turns, it had them in abundance. The pacing was fast, and action packed. I really enjoyed the ride. Each time I thought I figured things out something else happened. I really enjoyed the characters a lot. They were well thought out and developed. Even the side characters worked wonderfully.

If you are looking for a fast-paced thriller with lots of twists, then check this one out July 6th.

Thank you so much to Raven Street Publishing, and Netgalley, @Netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Fear the Silence is about a doctor named Maggie whose husband appears to commit suicide and her journey to uncover the truth. Government conspiracies, friends who are really foes, a complicated situation with no foreseeable resolution. This was a fast paced, action packed thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed. Robert Bryndza always delivers an exceptional story.

I enjoyed this book overall but I did find the middle part of it a bit far fetched and struggled to really get into it. It got better as it went on and all was resolved at the end.

Fear the Silence, seriously the name says it all.

This book literally gives you a ride of highs and lows, thriller, mystery it has it all. Maggie’s husband is brought into her ER dead with a gun shot to the head. Her life flips upside down because she thought they were happy and that everything was good but she suddenly realizes that her husband had been hiding much more from her than she would have ever expected.

The twists and turns of what happens to her and her friends who are willing to help her shoves her into a spiral of fear and confusion as she tries to figure out who is out to hurt her and why.

Definitely recommend!

I was a solid piece of work, as I suspect would be any book from Robert Bryndza, but I had two problems with it that kept it from being a true five-star read for me.

First, there was a perils-of-Pauline quality to the narrative that sometimes lurched perilously to outright silliness. It is possible to have too many twists and reversals in a plot, and this narrative would have been far richer and much deeper with fewer of them. Second, the ending was a serious fizzle. One minute the plot was steaming ahead from another of those out-of-left-field reversals, and then the next moment the book just stopped and we were informed that everyone lived happily ever after. The end.

A good read, yes, but not a great one, and certainly not up to the quality of the other titles that I've read from Robert Bryndza.

A stand alone book from one of my favourite writers, it dis not disappoint. I was lucky enough to read this before the publication date, thanks to Netgalley and I couldn't wait! It is dark and keeps your interest to the very end!

Robert Bryndza does it again! What a read!
This stand-alone book had me invested in the characters right from the beginning. Set in London and on a Croatian Island, the imagery conjured up by the author’s penmanship felt so intense and heart-pumping that I was engrossed in what would come next. The action whisks you away, and there is no going back. Just when you thought you knew where the story was going, it would take another direction. I find with some books that have so much packed in them, it feels like parts of the book are thrown together for good measure. That wasn’t the case with this book; everything felt naturally interwoven and cleverly done. To say I was gripped is really understated because I ended up reading it in one day. There was a lovely balance between reality and escapism, so effortlessly written, which I Iove about this author’s work. I think this will be enjoyed by those who have read Robert Bryndza’s previous works and those who haven’t. Fear the Silence is definitely a must-read that won’t disappoint.
Thank you to Raven Street Publishing, Robert Bryndza and Netgalley for this advanced copy.

Maggie is a very happily married ER doctor who finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy in which people in high places want her gone. It starts when a gunshot victim brought into her ER turns out to be her husband. She is told that he committed suicide, but she knows that he was happy. Of course, she learns that she did not know him as well as she thought that she did, and recognizes that she was not truly engaged in her marriage. She is put in dangerous situations as she tries to grieve and find answers as to why Will would have done this. She knows that she is not going crazy, however she does not know who she can trust. I enjoyed the presence of her deceased mother helping her. This story grabs you by the heart at the beginning; it is an emotional and thrilling race across the globe to avoid the bad guys while searching for answers. There is no part of this book that is not exciting and scary - you will not want to put it down! A most excellent read!

Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza

380 Pages
Publisher: Raven Street Publishing
Release Date: July 6, 2023

Fiction (Adult), General Fiction (Adult), Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, British, Croatia, Murder Mystery

Dr. Maggie Kendall and her husband, Will have been married 24 years. They decided early on in their relationship not to have children. Now as she waves goodbye before heading to the hospital for work, Will and the stray cat, Luna, wave to her. The first patient is a fifteen-year-old stabbing victim. She performs an emergency procedure and stitches his heart before it begins beating again. She barely has time to rest before the next trauma patient is brought in. She recognizes the clothes and as the oxygen mask is temporarily removed, she knows it is Will. What happened in the short time she was gone? Now the police tell her he took his own life. She does not belief that at all. She heads to their vacation home in Croatia to gain perspective. The day she arrives and collects the mail, there is a letter written in Will’s handwriting. It makes her question everything.

The book has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. There is a saying that three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead. How appropriate. There are so many secrets and twists. I had no idea where it was going. If you like international murder mysteries, you will enjoy reading this one.

I am a huge fan of Robert Bryndza's Erika Foster series, so when I saw that he had a stand-alone novel coming out, I immediately requested it!

Maggie Kendall is a trauma surgeon who works in AE at the local hospital. While on shift, her husband, Will, is brought in with a gunshot wound and passes away. The police rule his death a suicide and Maggie goes to their holiday home in Croatia to grieve her loss. While there, she receives a letter that her husband wrote to her years ago. The letter contains clues to a dark secret, and Maggie soon finds that someone will go to any lengths to make sure that it doesn't come to light.

This was a dark and twisty ride! Maggie was such a strong character, and I definitely rooted for her! I was so curious about how this book would end, and I think it was done perfectly!

Thank you, @netgalley, Raven Street Publishing, and @robertbryndza for the gifted e-arc of this book!

I love the Erika Foster series and while this wasn’t as fast paced as those, I still really enjoyed it.

It’s been a while since I read a psychological thriller that was this gripping! I was hooked from the beginning. I’m finally getting back into thrillers again and this was a good start. I like to keep my review vague because I like to go into books blind lol but I love when the book is praised.

With plans and intrigues of the greatest caliber, Robert Bryndza's brand-new standalone crime novel transports you from London to the fictitious Croatian island of Tišina (Silence) and back.

Maggie finds it extremely difficult to comprehend the suicide death of her husband Will, who passed away suddenly. She discovers several hints as she organizes his inheritance, some of which she initially doesn't comprehend but which appear to have been planned and sent by Will himself. What mysteries still linger in the shadows? Does she really know her husband? Maggie is placed in immediate danger and is compelled to run for her life.

The author's previous crime books are a little different from this one. It didn't particularly appeal to me because, at points, it's downright cringeworthy.

Maggie's psyche fluctuates all the time, which is understandable given the story, but it's not well-grounded because the author emphasizes that she's a doctor with a scientific approach, but throughout the novel, she finds herself in situations where it turns out to be very passive, at the mercy of others' help. The other characters are only incidental; they are too two-dimensional. Even though the atmosphere is nicely described, it is dark and uncomfortable.

The novel is good entertainment for an evening, but it feels too much like some kind of treasure hunt or an action thriller.

The plot is predictable and unbelievable, with unrelatable characters.
