3.5 Stars!
Before writing my review, I want to extend a huge thank you to NetGalley, Robert Bryndza, and Raven Street Publishing for gifting me the ARC of this book! I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review!! It was a privilege to be able to read FEAR THE SILENCE before publication in July.
I realize I’m in the minority here, with most readers giving FEAR THE SILENCE a solid 4 to 5 stars. And I usually don’t write spoilers of any kind, but I have to touch on something in the plot that contributed somewhat to my 3.5 star rating. It’s not a major spoiler, but I like to warn any readers who may see it as such.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s an intriguing read, filled with creepy moments and lots of suspense. Admittedly, I do like Robert Bryndza’s writing very much, with its rich descriptions of a beautiful Croatian island and an evolving plot riddled with mysteries to be solved. Our protagonist, Maggie, plays quite the sleuth as she tries to decipher clues left by her husband, Will, years before his tragic, untimely death. Certain clues and pieces of evidence left by Will for Maggie to investigate end up putting her in extreme danger and physical peril. Will kept secrets from Maggie that ultimately lead her to risking her life over and over again. This is not okay, husband Will!!
And as much as I liked the storyline and the mystery, I did find it a bit slow in parts, and certain plot points seemed a little implausible to me. Still, I think it’s worth reading because the mystery is a good one and the ending was very satisfying! On a separate note, this is my first read from this author, and I’ve heard great, great things about his other books. So I honestly can’t wait to dive into those!
This standalone book from the brilliant Robert Bryndza is my favourite so far .A very compelling and clever story ,gripping and a real page turner .Brilliant and interesting characters the story is full of twists and turns a real action packed book .Love love love . Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC .
An excellent, well researched thriller with a solid plot and enough tension to keep you awake at night.
I enjoyed reading this book. It had a good story to it. I liked the variety of characters in it. I have read other books by this author and liked them too.
I want to thank NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read this arc ebook. I had read one other book by this author,R.B. many yers ago,The Girl in the Ice,and always remembered the basics of it over the years,it was such a good mystery. This novel,Fear the Silence, was even better, right from the very first several pages. I could not put it down, full of action but not the fighting/gun pointing that’s so often in books and movies these days which has become tedious.A middle aged doctor whose husband has suddenly committed suicide is the very start of a somewhat complicated but intriguing story. It concerns corruption in government,Russians and lots of money changing hands for payoffs and blackmail. It would make a terrific movie with the backdrop of Croatia and London.
What a brilliant standalone book by the fantastic author. I have loved all of his books and this one did not disappoint. Centred on the main character who is a well respected doctor thrown into a story of murder, political deceit, mystery and selflessness from others. I could not put this down and would thoroughly recommend
Maggie Kendall is a trauma doctor at an A & E department in London. When a gunshot victim is brought in during her shift she is shocked to discover that it's her husband Will. The police investigation deems it a suicide - Will had had a licensed firearm in the house for several years without Maggie's knowledge. Escaping to their Croatian holiday home to try and come to to grips with her grief Maggie becomes convinced that someone is trying to kill her - then she receives a message from Will from beyond the grave.
Undecided about this book. It's well paced however I found the story a bit over the top. One minute Maggie is scared and cowering - hiding in a bath as she's convinced someone is trying to get at her in the house -and the next she's diving into an underwater cave without a second thought.
Thanks to Netgalley, Raven Street Publishing and Robert Bryndza for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
This was such a good book. I was hooked from the first chapter and ended up binge reading it as I could not put it down. It was very well written, with an unusual storyline set in London and a small island in the Adriatic. It was full of excellent descriptions that made you have a very complete visual picture of the action.the ending was ‘left field’ and was very satisfying.
Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza
Author Robert Bryndza hits a home run in this five star thriller set in London and Croatia. The well developed protagonist, Dr. Margaret Kendall, suspects foul play in her husband’s death.
With a great plot, Bryndza hits all the right notes in building tension to sustain the reader’s interest. Evil strikes Maggie at every turn, but is she clever enough or lucky enough to outwit her
villains?
You’ll fly through this book to keep pace with all the action and get to the story’s end which will satisfy every mystery lover. Many thanks to #RavenStreetPublishing and #NetGalley for this ARC.
I loved the initial feel of this story and was on the edge of my seat anxious to know where it was going. However, once it moved full steam ahead into the mystery with a bit of evidence here and there, it soon lost its dark, intriguing quality. While it settled into a nice enough mystery, I found it to be somewhat ordinary. There was a small twist but nothing that shook me. Overall, this was an enjoyable enough read and would have been even more so had I not had different expectations of it.
Maggie’s life is put in a dreadful spin when her husband commits suicide. She can’t imagine he’d do such a thing. She goes to shut up their house on a Croatian island and all sorts of hell gets unleashed. More clues come from Will her dead husband who seems to have known someone would try and kill him. She managed to get back to the UK where more strange things occur. Turns out Will had something on an MP I don’t want to give too much away but this is a must read book. I couldn’t put it down. You’ve done it again Robert, congratulations another sure-fire winner.
Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza is a stand alone book and it is a very clever read, with many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.
It is a very taut thriller and at times the scenes in the island set in Croatia are very tense and gripping and formidable.
The characters are excellent particularly the main character, Maggie and the woman who is the villain of the story is particularly nasty.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and the areas of Croatia described in the story..
Highly recommended
Tense and blindingly exciting! A masterclass of storytelling and gripping suspense. Maggie is a totally believable but also larger than life character, well written and alive with drive and energy. Thrilling fast paced and compelling this story is entrancing from the first page. This is personal tragedy with an edge which leads to a desperate search for answers in the wake of impending catastrophe. Simply stunning! Highly recommended.
This was definitely a fast read. Interesting storyline and enough going on that you have trouble putting it down. Great read in my opinion! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher and author for this great book and letting me leave my opinion.
This was incredibly good ! I was actually on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait until it comes out, i’ll be buying it. I anticipate reading more from this author.
An entertaining book that encourages you to keep turning the pages faster and faster.
The plot evolved smoothly and was relatively straight forward despite a degree of complexity! I loved the ideas for location - in particular a beautiful but secluded island in Croatia. I have travelled to the Croatian island of Korcula before and it really is a special place.
The ending was satisfying and there were quite a few nice touches there too!
"HOW CAN IT BE THAT THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE STARTED OUT AS ONE OF THE BEST ?"
FIrst of all I must admit that I am quite an Bryndza-addict, have read all the Erika Fosters and Kate Marshalls published so far, with a slight preference for the latter. But, when finding out a stand alone was about to be published, and then seeing the invite to pre-read "Fear the Silence", you will understand I did not hesitate one second to subscribe, and guess what, I got the pre-read ! Robert Bryndza & NetGalley, thanks a million for the opportonity.
So,about "Fear the Silence" : Bryndza once again manages to draw me as his reader straight into the book, not in the least because of the first sentence , as quoted above, one must admit this sounds quite intriguing, doesn't it ?
Reading through the book I sometimes felt like being in a scenario for a film, one action being quickly followed by the next, still paying enough attention to the characters and the story in itself.
I really enjoued this stand alone, looking forward to a possible next stand alone, still, also new stories on Erika and Kate will be more than welcome !
Thank you very much Robert Bryndza, for making reading so enjoyable !
Having read many of Robert Bryndza's books and being a big fan, I was certainly looking forward to this new stand alone story and it did not disappoint.
This was simply unputdownable!
There were so many great twists and turns and the pacing had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through.
I couldn't wait to see how it all concluded but I didn't want it to end either, which is always the sign of an incredible book for me.
If you're looking for a great thriller, that's exactly what this is and I also liked the fact that this was fresh new story and not part of an existing series (even though I love them too).
Robert Bryndza is definitely one of those must-read/immediate buy authors for me.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza is a story of a female doctor in the trauma unit of a hospital where her husband is suddenly brought in for treatment and subsequently dies. The reader is then forced to follow her to their vacation home on a secluded island off the coast of Croatia where she seeks some clues as to what happened and why. It is all very convoluted and not particularly interesting with sub plots revolving around other people on the island, serious injury to a trauma nurse/friend and friends and relatives who help her.
I love Robert Bryndzas books and have enjoyed all of them. At first I wasn’t sure about this one but after a couple of chapters I couldn’t put it down. I thought the end was a bit abrupt and convenient but i would still recommend this as a good read. Great page turner .
