Reviewing this book is a tough task.
The synopsis peaked my curiosity so I am happy to have hadthe opportunity to read this ARC.
I did not particularly enjoy the writing style. Some thoughts and scenes flowed but but,for me, the much of the writing felt choppy dn haphazrd;not to mention totally far fetched.
I did like how the author created a fictional island and named it "Tisina", the Slovic term for silence. A clever way to tie in with the book title.
Thank you Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for the chance to read and review this novel.
This is a great stand alone book by Robert Bryndza. It grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let you go until the end. Maggie, a trauma doctor, loses her husband unexpectedly. He leaves her a letter that sends her on a trip from London to Croatia to answer the questions of his death. What she finds is danger and not knowing who she can trust. As she fights for her own life, she must find the real reason her husband died and bring the people to justice. Her journey requires her to be stronger than she’s ever been and to find help from someone in her past. But who can she really trust? And will she survive to find justice for her husband? Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC for my honest review.
Fear the Silence is a brilliantly constructed thriller that is exciting and a real page turner.
Maggie an emergency doctor in a London hospital is on duty the night a man is brought in with a gunshot wound to the head, he does not survive. Shockingly this man is Will, Maggie’s much loved husband. Devastated by her loss she is unable to believe that Will would commit suicide which is what the police say all evidence points to, they were extremely happy and had a good life together.
After the funeral and overcome with grief and disbelief she travels to the Croatian island where her and Will had built their dream house. A few days after her arrival she receives a letter off Will via a solicitor that had instructions to post The letter in the event of his death. As Maggie starts to piece together some clues in the letter she realises that her own life is now in danger. The tension ramps up quickly and Maggie is in for the fight of her life.
There were many moments in this book when I actually jumped with shock and surprise, I must have said ‘oh no’ so many times!
I throughly enjoyed this book, a wonderful read with a cast of characters that are well described and have a great depth.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
I am a great fan of all Robert Bryndza's books. The crime series and the hilarious Coco Pinchard stories. Fear the Silence is Robert Bryndza's first stand alone novel and it doesn't disappoint. A rollercoaster of a story touching on cutting edge medicine, political scandal, murder and fleeing across continents, I read it in one sitting as every chapter stopped at a cliff hanger in the narrative that made me read the next one. A brilliant book that I am happy to recommend to any fan of a good thriller.
Thank you Netgalley, Raven Street Publishing and Robert Bryndza for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.
Well Robert Bryndza never ceases to amaze as he writes another 5 star thriller.
This standalone book starts as Maggie a doctor in a busy A&E hospital leaves her loving husband Will and her happy home to start her night shift. After a very busy shift alerts come in to say a gunshot victim is on their way but Maggie’s life comes to a crashing halt as she realises this is her husband Will and in this heartbreaking moment it’s too late to save him. It seems at this point things cannot be any worse for Maggie but when the police inform her that they believe Will took his own life she is totally confused, nothing at all pointed to Will taking his own life and where on earth did he get a gun !
Grieving after the funeral Maggie decides to travel to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to try and make sense of what is happening but things become even more confusing after she receives a strange letter from Will that was written some years back and given to a solicitor to post if anything was to happen to him.
Well OMG what a start this is and the pace of the book never lets up with so much going on I felt at times I could hardly breathe as I was racing to finish it desperately wanting to find out what was going to happen.
The writing of course is superb, the characters believable and the whole feel of the book was tense, exciting, well plotted and a joy to read.
So Mr Bryndza you did it again another tremendous read and one I would highly recommend so please keep them coming and many thanks
My thanks also to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was really excited to read the first standalone from Robert Bryndza and I wasn't disappointed.
The book has such an exciting premise which really draws you in from the start and the first couple of chapters really set the book up perfectly for what is a brilliant story.
The writing as always from Bryndza was on point and the tension he can build is perfect.
Thanks to Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
What can I say about Robert Bryndza books that I haven't said before. His Erika Foster books are one of my favourite police procedural series , so when I heard he had a new, stand alone thriller coming out I was very excited indeed.
I have to say, it did not disappoint. It was dark and twisty and kept surprising me until the very end. It was a case of who can our main character trust, and there were plenty of very unlikeable characters .
A satisfying ending, I can't recommend his books more. Thanks to Raven Street Publishing for my advanced copy to read. Publishes on July 6th
I love fast-paced books. Especially ones that are fast-paced and involve a psychological thriller story! Fear the Silence kept me up at night. I devoured it. Looking forward to other titles from Bryndza. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Five stars.
I was a little disappointed when I started this book and found it was a standalone book rather than part of the series I'd read by this author, but I was wrong. This book is definitely worth reading. There are a few sad moments, lots of twists and even more near misses. I never knew what was going to happen next and had to keep reading to see if Maggie survived and if the culprit would be unmasked. A pageturner in my opinion
Maggie’s life is turned upside down after her husband takes his own life, and she is immediately thrown into an action packed and wild adventure that see’s her fighting not only for her own survival but to seek the truth and to solve the mystery that her husband has left for her.
One thing I can say is that there is definitely no lack of action in this one, it is a wild ride! Maybe, maybe just a little too wild. I would have personally enjoyed a little more character development, I felt no great love for the heroin and actually I found her quite frustrating and didn’t feel like all of her actions were a good reflection of someone who has just lost their husband of many years.
In the end, I thought the book was ok, it’s an easy read and fast paced but I have much preferred Robert Bryndza’s Erika Foster series to this stand alone.
Many thanks to the publisher, author and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for this review
I love books by Bryndza. I’m not sure why this one felt different and I didn’t enjoy it as much as the others.
Maggie Kendall went to work after spending a nice day with her husband Will. Later he is brought in to A & E and quickly died from his gunshot wound, everyone assumes he commited suicide but maggie cannot accept this.
Maggie goes to their holiday home in Croatia for a week to try to relax and pick up some things her husband's family want returned. While there things get quite scary. Some strange things are happening and she's not sure if she is imagining them or if someone is trying to hurt her.
This book is great. I couldn't put it down. It was full of action
. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers as I'm sure this one would be enjoyed.
4 stars
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this arc.
What a Phenomenal story! A high octane page turner. I loved Maggie and the scary island setting was great.
This is the first book i have read by Robert Bryndza and immediately liked it and read it quickly in two days..
Maybe it helped that it was a stand alone thriller so that i didn’t miss on not knowing any of the background of his previous novels.
Maggie is an Accident and Emergency surgeon who is stunned to discover her husband has committed suicide without a hint of anything being wrong. She feels guilty that she may have missed signs in her husband Will’s behaviour but then when she travels to a small Croatian island to retrieve some personal items from their luxurious holiday house , discovers that things are not what they seem and suspects that Will may have been killed. The pace of the novel ramps up on the island with several quite terrifying events for Maggie. She s left being unsure who to trust and very alone. The tension and fear is well maintained throughout the rest of the book although two episodes stretched credibility a bit too far, getting off the island in a storm and some deectve work by Maggie in a church, and I worried that the finish of the book might be ridiculously unrealistic but it wasn’t. It was a tidy and satisfying finish.
I will definitely look to read other books by this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for the gifted advance copy.
Wow! This is a wild story of deception and betrayal! Death, murder, suicide or was it??? Who can you trust? Who can help you? Guess you gotta save yourself and figure out along the way how to get yourself to safety and what to do with the information you’ve received upon your husbands untimely death. Will it be justice or revenge or both? This was a great book and I got through it quickly it’s a page turner for sure!
I enjoyed reading this book. It was easy to follow and had many twists that kept me guessing. I look forward to more books by this author. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book.
Being a huge fan of Robert bryndza requesting this was a no brainer!
Because it was a stand alone - it had a completely different feel than the usual Erika Foster ones that I love, but this was not a negative, far from it.
There were parts of this book, when I felt I was forgetting to breathe I was that excited!
Far fetched at times - a cross between a domestic thriller and a top spy novel, it was one that I struggled to put down! I loved it!
Thank you Raven Street Publishing and Netgalley for the book I’d been waiting for!
Absolutely brilliant, I couldn’t put it down.
Good characters, great storyline and I love the twist at the end !
More please!!
‘Do you believe Will took his own life?’
The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital’s cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me.
I love love all books by this author and pick them up as soon as available Was so excited to read this and was not disappointed
Maggie Kendall a doctor working in A&E having spent a nice day with her husband Will
Then Will arrives as a patient and dies Things start happening when Maggie goes to their holiday home in Croatia I love the scenic descriptions of the island Quickly Maggie realises Will has been keeping some big secrets from her
This book as I expected is gripping and fast paced. It certainly kept me reading late into the night The story moved in unexpected directions which I loved. I highly recommend
Maggie is a trauma surgeon whose husband Will gave up his life as a forensic pathologist to pursue his passion for building. When Will is shot dead one night Maggie is sure it's a burglary until the police tell her that he committed suicide and she's left to try to understand why he would do so. Then a letter from Will arrives, sending her on a wild journey where her life is threatened again and again while she tries to understand what he had gotten caught up in. I loved this stand-alone by Bryndza, whose Kate Marshall and Erika Foster series I've been reading for years.
