This one was just ok for me. It started out great but going on I felt many parts were just unbelievable. It was the first book I’ve read by this author. I will be checking out others though as I’ve heard such good things. Thanks to NetGalley for the privilege to read and review this book.
What would you do if your spouse committed suicide, and you had no warning? What would you do if you got a cryptic letter from him soon after? In Robert Bryndza’s standalone psychological thriller, we follow Maggie as she uncovers truths that place her and those around her in danger. Suspense and danger await you in this chilling tale.
Fear the Silence begins on a normal Sunday. Maggie and her husband spend a lazy Sunday together before she headed off to work at the local hospital. Her night changes forever when a gunshot victim arrives and it’s Maggie’s husband. At first Maggie thinks Will is the victim of a break-in, but the police tell her it’s a suicide. She didn’t even know Will owned a gun.
The tale that unfolds slowly builds until Maggie travels to their vacation home on a small Croatian island to mourn quietly. Strange things happen, and then she receives a letter from her husband. It’s dated after his death and not from the family solicitor. It talks about his death and where she can find the key to unlocking the truth.
From there, the tale took off. As Maggie looks for answers, it seems others are too. They’ll stop at nothing to keep their secrets. Danger, death, escape and twists kept me reading as Maggie uncovers something big with far-reaching implications.
Fans of thrillers, fast-paced action and conspiracies will want to pick up this thriller. The author did a great job of building the suspense and raised the stakes as the story progressed. Some twists and Maggie’s clever thinking made for an engaging tale.
Fear the Silence was a gripping thriller. A woman loses her husband to suicide but when a letter comes from him after his death everything is turned upside down. Did he kill himself or was something sinister going on?
The beginning of this book was enthralling. I did get a little bored about 70% of the way in because it was alot of action all at once. It made the story almost unbelievable. I'm glad I kept going tho because the ending was worth it. I think Robert did an amazing job of tying up all the loose ends and giving me all the feels.
Thank you Netgalley for a ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza is a thrilling stand-alone mystery that takes place in London and on a small island of Croatia. It is full of suspense and action, and the short chapters with cliffhanger endings drove me to keep reading.
When Maggie's husband Will is brought to the emergency room with a gunshot wound while she is the doctor on duty, she knows nothing will ever be the same again. She can't believe he took his own life, which is the conclusion reached by the authorities. When she goes to close up their vacation home in Croatia for the winter and her life is threatened, she knows something is very wrong and learns things about her husband that she never knew during his life. This puts her on the run to find out what really happened as she tries her best to stay alive.
The protagonist, Maggie, was a character to root for. She was smart and brave as she took risks that put her life in danger over and over. The author does a great job of making the desolate Croatian island seem like a menacing presence. The setting almost seemed like an additional character.
I will recommend this to readers who like thrillers with strong protagonists.
Thank you to Raven Street Publishing and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
According to the police, Will has committed suicide after being found dead with a gunshot wound. His wife, Maggie, cannot come to terms with this: Will had everything to live for so why would he end his own life? Things start to become clearer after the funeral when Maggie realises that Will was, indeed, involved in something, something that has ultimately led to his death. Now her own life is in danger – is she prepared to risk it all to expose the truth?
This is the first standalone thriller written by Robert Bryndza and being a huge fan of both his Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series, I did not even read the synopsis of Fear the Silence before downloading it as I knew I would love it. I was not disappointed!
Robert Bryndza has written a gripping thriller that has you on the edge of your seat as you are taken on a journey from London to a beautiful yet claustrophobic island in Croatia. The setting of the book is perfect, the title hinting of the isolation and fear Maggie feels as she slowly discovers exactly what her husband had been hiding from her. Like Maggie, it is difficult to know who to trust and I found myself shocked by events on more than one occasion.
The plot is a clever one that does not always go in the ways I thought it would. This definitely kept me on my toes as I tried to work out whether this was going to end well for Maggie. I did enjoy the ending and thought it was a clever way of concluding the plot.
This promises to be another success for Robert Bryndza.
I am a huge fan of this author so I high expectations from this one and boy, did he deliver.
This is the first stand alone book that Brynzda has done and I loved it!! It was fast paced, and a real page turner.
Thanks for the ARC.
This is a fast-paced, grip your seat and hang on type of mystery. Maggie Kendall, is a trauma doctor, working in an ER, when her husband Will is brought in with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. After the funeral, Maggie heads to their vacation home in Croatia to close the house for the winter. But strange things start to happen after an unknown lawyer delivers a letter from Will. What does the letter mean? Once the journey starts, there is no ending it, Maggie must see it through.
This is a well-written, extremely engaging story. Maggie is a great character; the plot moves quickly and in a fashion that makes a reader want to get to the next chapter. Without giving away any spoilers, the scary thing about this book is the depth of how power can corrupt and the extremes people will go to keep power. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope to read more by the author.
Thank you to Raven Street Publishing & NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book
I love a good read with a lot of twist and turns you don't see coming! This author did not disappoint.
This was my first time reading this authors work, HOOKED! Headed to see what other titles I can dowload!
***Readers you will not be disappointed!
This book grabbed me the minute I started reading and I could not put it down. It is the story of Maggie, a doctor who's husband commits suicide. She has a hard time accepting his death and travels to Croatia to their vacation home in order to put her grief in check. She stumbles upon danger the minute she arrives and slowly comes to the realization that her husband didn't kill himself but he was murdered to protect someone's hidden secrets. She doesn't know who to trust or why this is happening until she gets a few answers from her dead husband. This was an excellent read and I highly recommend
‘Three may keep a secret... If two of them are dead.’ - Benjamin Franklin, Epigraph.
My thanks to Raven Street Publishing for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Fear The Silence’ by Robert Bryndza. I have enjoyed a number of his novels, both those that are part of a series and his stand-alones, such as this.
Dr Margaret (Maggie) Kendall is a trauma surgeon at Guy’s Hospital in London. Her husband, Will, had originally been a forensic pathologist though six years ago he gave up his medical career to take up property design. One evening during her night shift a gunshot victim is brought in. Maggie is horrified to see that it is Will. He does not survive. Maggie initially thinks that he has been the victim of a burglary at their London home. Then the police tell her that the evidence points to Will having pulled the trigger.
Maggie is consumed with grief and cannot believe that Will took his own life. After the funeral, she travels to their holiday home on Tišina, a small Croatian island, to escape for a while. Then she receives a disturbing letter, written by Will and forwarded by a solicitor. It opens with: “if you are reading this letter, something has happened to me”. It hints of a dark secret dating back to his decision to leave medicine. Could he have been murdered? No further details to avoid spoilers.
This novel started off slow and I felt that Robert Bryndza captured the sense of unreality that descends upon someone experiencing a sudden bereavement. Then on the island, there is a growing atmosphere of menace. Is Maggie just imagining things or is there someone on the island seeking to unnerve her or worse?
Overall, ‘Fear The Silence’ proved a gripping page turner very much in keeping with my experience of Robert Bryndza’s previous novels.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
2.5 stars read.
I'm afraid this one is a miss for me. I loveeee all Robert Bryndza's books that I've read before, so kinda felt sad that I don't like this one.
What I like:
- It has a good premise, secrets after secrets, following clues, it's a page-turner actually.
- The pace, this one is a fast-paced read.
What I don't like:
- It's unbelieveable, too many coincidences, too many conveniences.
- It's all over the place, some parts just felt disconnected, like I don't get why, like some parts felt unnecessary.
- Maggie, I'm really confuse with this character, she can solve the mystery but most of the times she looks like she doesn't know anything, and I felt her character a bit annoying.
- The ending, not my fav, felt like open ending but it's not.
Recommended: this book is not for me, but if you found it interesting, try it, maybe you will like it more than I do.
This was a first read for me by Robert Bryndza. I was very surprised by this story and in a pleasant way. I thought that the story flowed well and the characters were very likable (the good ones anyway).
Maggie is an ER nurse when on her shift one day, her husband is wheeled in on a gurney. Maggie is shocked and thinks that this can't be happening to her. There is nothing that can be done for her husband and he ends up dying. The police tell Maggie that it was a suicide but Maggie does not believe that in the least bit. There is no way that her husband would do that to himself, or her.
Maggie decides that she has to go to their holiday home in Croatia and close it up. When she gets there, she finds a letter that her husband left her and then there seems to be even more puzzle pieces that have to be solved before Maggie can know and understand what went on with her husbands death. Maggie is a tough character and I love that she never gave up no matter how bad things got for her. It was fun to go on the ride with her to figure out what really happened to her husband and why. Not at all what I thought we were going to discover, that is for sure. I enjoyed this read and do recommend it for thrill seekers.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.
This is a fast paced Thriller which was greatly written. This will keep you entertained till the end
This is the second book I have read by this author, and it was just as enjoyable to me has the first one was. I haven’t had a chance to read his series yet, but I’m looking forward to it, because as in the first book, this one kept me on the edge of my seat, and not knowing what was going to happen from one page to the next. I would recommend this to anybody who enjoys mystery and suspense.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
One of my favourite authors who never disappoints
This is a stand alone thriller that kept me gripped from the start
Maggie thinks she has a good marriage and know her husband Will, until he is fou d dead and her life starts to unravel
Really enjoyed this book. Very gripping and the ending was brilliant. Can't wait to read the next one.
Enjoyed the characters in this book and the writing was superb.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC
This standalone novel started off so well and up to the usual standard of Bryndza. However about midway through I began to lose interest in the story and unfortunately what I was expecting to be a five star read, turns into a 3 star. I still love Bryndza writing and will read everything he writes ⭐⭐⭐
Right from the first page I was hooked with this story. I firmly believed in the main character, Maggie, and was with her for the whole journey. It was twisty and gripping and Bryndza describes Maggie's worry and stress brilliantly and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
The story begins when Maggie is working as a doctor in the trauma department of her hospital and a gunshot patient is brought in, who it turns out is her husband. Everyone firmly believes that he committed suicide and Maggie allows herself to be persuaded to this view too, despite believing he had no worries. When, after the funeral, and while she is on leave, she goes to their house in Croatia to shut it up for the winter, strange things begin happening she is forced to rethink events.
Fast action, a different and original ending, and some great descriptions of the Croatian island where Maggie has her house. A great read.
With thanks to Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for an arc copy in return for an honest review.
Thanks to Raven Street Publishing and NetGalley for ARC.
Bryndza is a prolific author and bestseller. I have only read one or two of his series novels in the past and was intrigued by the premise of this one.
When former forensic pathologist turned property developer Will is seriously injured from a gunshot wound, his emergency medicine consultant wife Maggie cannot believe that it could be self inflicted. After Will's death, Maggie seems to be shut out from her own life, by Will's family and friends, even the police. When she travels to a beautiful out of season Croatian island to shut up their home and gather belongings, it becomes very clear all is not as it first seemed and Maggie is in danger, not knowing whom to trust. How can she unravel the secrets Will was keeping without her entire livelihood and life being trashed?
Unfortunately for me, the frequent twists and turns became sillier and more pointless as time wore on. It was clear early on who the villain/s were; I was never sure why they had limitless funds and other villains at their command, as the day job didn't really warrant it. Maggie's motivations are fairly roughly outlined and so are most of the other characters. The final resolution was a bit thin.
Great book from this author, just got the right amount of tension throughout. I loved the ending too . I highly recommend this book and will be reading more from this author in the future. Definitely 5 stars from me
