This was an excellent story, written with energy and imagination by Mr B, until the tale reached its finale when it turned into a "woke" denouement. Sad really as life happens and we need to learn to deal with that reality (even when it is a work of fiction).

Scores just 3 1/2 stars because there are bad people in real life and they get away with unacceptable things in real life. Fear The Silence would have been far more hard hitting if it had left readers angry with the bad people, rather than coming up with a "woke" ending where the bad guy gets their comeuppance due to an indiscretion or two from several decades past.

When Maggie waved goodbye to her husband, Will, after the lazy relaxing day they'd had together, she had no idea how much her life was about to change. Some hours later, Maggie and other doctors were called to the emergency department for an incoming gunshot victim - to Maggie's horror, it was Will. She froze, and when the police later informed her he'd committed suicide, Maggie refused to believe it...

A week after Will's funeral, she headed to a small Croatian island where she and Will had a holiday home. When a letter was delivered to her - from Will - she was shocked to read it, and even more so when she discovered the secrets Will had been hiding from her the past six years. And also who else was involved. How could this have happened without her knowledge? Did she even know the husband she'd loved for so long?

Fear the Silence is my first by Robert Bryndza and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I had to suspend my disbelief, especially towards the end, but hey! that's what fiction is all about - isn't it?!!! Fast paced and electric, it was a great few hours of high-octane entertainment! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

Fear the Silence was a good read, but around half way I wasn’t quite as engrossed, and I would forget who a couple of the characters were and would have to check back. Maggie’s story was worth the read and it picked up again further on.

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza is one of those books where I bounced between a three and a four rating. I can’t state a specific reason for it. Was it the book or was it me?

I have read two other books by Robert Bryndza and enjoyed them, so whenever I see the opportunity to read another, I am all over it. Soooo, let’s begin.

Maggie’s husband, Will, committed suicide…or did he?

He blew me a kiss and made Luna wave her paw. He looked so content. Deliriously content is how I’ll always remember that last view of him.

And the mystery begins. She travels to their island home in Croatia. Oh yeah, I think an isolated island is where she should be…alone. She discovers why he changed careers six years ago. The past never stays buried and now it has put her life in extreme danger.

I can’t imagine the terror…huddled, cowering, in the dark as someone rifles through your home…hoping, praying, not to be seen. It was…maybe…my favorite part of the book. I felt I was there with her, just waiting to be discovered. What do you think happens?

We have a hellacious storm rolling through, so it is impossible for her to leave the island. So many times, when a read a book, I try to think of what I would do. Would it be the same as the character? It’s one of those things where you have to be there to know. I think we all wish we would do something better than what gets the characters in such deep trouble.

They live in a smart home and I love when I learn something. Had me doing some surfing to see if it was true. A book that can make me do that, adds a little something extra…for me.

I kept trying to think of who it could possibly be that would want her husband dead. There weren’t that many suspects and until I found the reason, I couldn’t decide. Once the person was in my sights, it all began to come together and it read a bit like a spy novel.

As I said earlier, I went between a three and four rating. Whenever that happens, I take it up a notch. As I thought about it while writing the review and going through the highlights on my ereader, I still can’t think of what was wrong, me or the book. I guess you will have to read it for yourself. Robert Bryndza’s writing is easy to read and flows smoothly, so give him a try.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Fear O Silence by Robert Bryndza.

Thank you Robert Bryndza, Net Galley and Raven Street Publishing for providing me and ARC of this novel. This is my first time reading a book by this author and I was transported in to Maggie's world as it turns upside down and inside out. This fast paced story hits the ground running with a story that doesn't stop for air. I couldn't stop because I needed to know what was going to happen next. Maggie is a doctor who is told her husband commited suicide while she was at work. Having no clue that he was suicidal and not believing he would take his own life she starts on a quest to figure out what really happenede. She come across one clue after another (some set up by her deceased husband for her to find if he were to die) and the more she knows the more danger she's in. This book came together in a conclusion that left me satisfied and I would recommend this one to anyone who likes a good psychological thriller.

Fear the Silence is filled with so many twists and turns. This is my first book to read by Robert Bryndza and I will definitely be reading anything written by him. I highly recommend this book.

Maggie has lost the man she loves, she’s devastated. Even more so when everyone insists he committed suicide. Escaping to their self built villa in Croatia, Maggie’s life takes another twist, an even more sinister twist than losing her husband. What ensues is a race to stay alive to find out the truth!

I’ve loved Bryndza’s Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series so I was intrigued to see how he played a standalone novel. Would I have unanswered questions? Would the ending be left open for a follow up like books in series can finish?

As Fear The Silence isn’t a police procedural style book like his series, Bryndza has diverged from the traditional investigative story. The story is totally told from Maggie’s perspective, no unknown character talking to me, no murderer’s head I was getting into. This was all about Maggie.

I’ve got to say Robert Bryndza has well and truly pulled of the move from brilliant series to standalone thriller. I was glued to my kindle, finishing the story well after I was meant to be asleep. Keeping the story to a single book is no detriment to this man’s writing. Cracking addictive read!

Robert Bryndza has written an engaging, albeit schizophrenic, mystery novel that kept me engaged for the most part all the way till the end. I was captured early on by the mysterious plot line, then scurried through the mid-section of the tale, then got very interested in the third section, and progressed nicely to the finish line. We spend time in England, more time in Croatia, and then…..well, not gonna give away key plot points here. I really (really) enjoyed some of the mysteries left behind for our protagonist Maggie to first uncover and then figure out; but there was some behaviors that were clumsy and downright immature on Maggie’s part. And a really (really) awkward sex scene that should have just been deleted before the final editing. It added , no, subtracted, from the plot.
I am glad I read this book and according to a number of other reviewers Fear the Silence is the weakest of Bryndza’s thrillers. So thanks to NetGalley and this story was strong enough to warrant 3 stars and to lead me to try some of the author’s other works.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Fear The Silence", a standalone thriller by Robert Bryndza. As a fan of his much-loved "Erika Foster" series, I was interested to see what the author had in store for his readers.
I have to admit, I had a hard time coming up with a review that is balanced and fair. I did not love this book. But I did read it in its entirety, and it did have a satisfying ending.
When Maggie's husband Will is brought in to her emergency room with a fatal gunshot would to the head, her whole world begins to unravel - starting off with the fact that his death is ruled as suicide.
Seeking solace at their holiday home on a small Croatian island, Maggie then receives a letter from her husband, which holds some clues to what really happened.
As she begins to piece together the clues, Maggie becomes the victim of at least two attempts on her life, disguised as accidents; but when her and Will's best friend - who has come to the island to help her figure things out - is savagely murdered (and nearly takes her with him) it becomes apparent that these are no accidents.
Maggie ends up on the run from another attempt on her life - one that seems to have been orchestrated by a one-woman criminal enterprise (who also happens to be high up in the British government).
There is a lot to like about this story, and a lot that just didn't hold together in my mind.
I really wanted to give it 4 stars, but some of the suspense just didn't ring true for me. But please, read the book if you're interested and decide for yourself.

Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza
Pub Date: July 6th, 2023
📖 350 pages
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 stars

Maggie and Will have been happily married for 25 years but too career driven to have any kids together. They met in the medical field; Maggie is an ER physician, but Will suddenly made a career change from medical examiner to property developer.

Maggie kisses Will goodbye to get to the hospital for her shift, and that’s the last time she sees Will alive. Will was found in his office by a neighbor, he was shot in an apparent manner of suicide. Maggie is in disbelief that he would take his own life and sets out to their vacation home in Croatia to clear her mind. It’s there that she receives a strange letter from Will that makes Maggie believe Will was in trouble and wasn’t suicidal…he was murdered.

I enjoyed the search Maggie endured to find the truth behind Will’s death, it felt like a treasure hunt but piecing the puzzle together and finding out the truth puts an instant target on Maggie’s back. I did have trouble understanding a few parts of the book because it wasn’t written in American English but overall, it was a good storyline and I recommend mystery lovers to read it for themselves.

CALLING ALL THRILLER LOVERS: This UNPUTDOWNABLE action suspense-thriller is a must read!

Maggie is an ER doctor on duty when her husband Will is brought in with a fatal gunshot wound. She is numb with shock but does not believe it when the police inform her that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

With a 12-week break from work, she travels to her vacation home on an island near Croatia, hoping to heal. But when she receives a mysterious note from Will, she is stunned…and puzzled. The note contains clues to a deadly secret. This confirms Maggie’s belief that Will was murdered, and as she tries to unravel the clues she realizes she might be next! I always enjoy suspense stories by this author as he knows how to bring the intensity and this story was fast paced, suspenseful and atmospheric. Dr. Maggie Kendall has just spent a lovely day with her husband of 24 years, Will, and leaves for her evening shift as an emergency room doctor. Only she receives the surprise of her life when a patient is brought in who died of a gunshot wound and it is her own husband. The police have ruled it a suicide but Maggie cannot believe her happy husband would have killed himself. To console herself, Maggie goes to the couple's vacation home in Croatia to close the place up for a winter. While she at this beautiful place, she finds a secret Will has left for her, a secret that could have led to his murder.

The scenes in Croatia were beautifully described and as Maggie began to have a series of accidents, the tension became really intense. Someone is the small village is trying to kill her and she has to use every ounce of strength she has to survive. Not only was Maggie fighting for her life, but determined to find out who wanted Will dead. I really enjoyed the scenes where Maggie was trying to find her way home using only her wits and her will to survive. This book had a little of everything, a strong female lead, a beautiful setting, political intrigue and a complex mystery to solve. Thank you Raven Street Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in exchange for a review.

This story moved slow at the start with a lot of focus on storms, but it picked up towards the middle and I couldn’t put it down to finish it!

This standalone mystery by Robert Bryndza never lets up. When the main character Maggie grapples to understand the supposed suicide of her husband she discovers secrets she never suspected. With their Greek villa the backdrop for most of the story, Maggie must piece together her husband's demise and what it means for her future.

Maggie's life seems perfect. She's a trauma doctor at the local hospital, she's happily married to Will, and they have a comfortable life filled with travel and friends. Will became unhappy in his job as a forensic pathologist and switched jobs about 6 years ago. Maggie was surprised as medicine was in his family. She didn't question it too much as Will seemed happy to switch jobs into real estate development. One day before Maggie had to report for work, she and Will spent the morning in bed enjoying each other in every way imaginable. As she was outside getting ready to get in the car, Maggie looked up at Will in the window. He looked so happy and waved at Maggie as she left. That's the last time Maggie saw Will alive.

Fear the Silence grips you from the start and the grip gets tighter as you read on. Maggie can't believe it when she's on duty, they say a gun shot victim is coming in, and it turns out to be Will! She can't breathe, she is sinking to the floor, she can't believe what she's seeing. As the other trauma surgeons work on Will and try to resuscitate him, their efforts fail. Will is dead. Maggie will never spend another lazy morning in bed with Will, she'll never laugh with Will, she'll never get to travel anywhere with Will, and she'll never feel as loved as she did by Will. As Maggie is trying to come to terms with what has happened, she can't believe that they tell her Will committed suicide! Will would never kill himself, he wasn't even depressed. What is going on? Why are they reporting this? Maggie has so many questions and she's sure that Will did not kill himself!

Maggie is at Will's funeral trying to copy with the grief she feels and is so sad that Will's best friend, Eric, couldn't attend. He was in another country working on a racing boat for a client. Eric travels all over on his boat and builds boats for others. Will and Eric have been best friends since their school days. After the funeral, Maggie travels to their summer home in Croatia. She feels so strange being there alone and it's such a big house. There's a man who's been looking after the house, but he seems a bit menacing this time. Is it because Will's not with her or is he dangerous?

As Maggie is looking around the house she comes across a letter written by Will. The letter contains a dark secret that took place about 6 years ago. That's the same time that Will left medicine for real estate development. Are the two things related? Did Will do something he shouldn't have or see something he shouldn't have? Things begin happening to Maggie while she's in Croatia. She almost drowns in the pool and this was no accident! Who is trying to kill Maggie and why? As Maggie starts to put things together, she is in more danger from someone from Will's past. When Eric shows up at the house in Croatia, should she trust him? Did he know about Will's secret? Will he help Maggie figure out who killed Will and why?

Fear the Silence is a fantastic thriller that ramps up the suspense more and more as you read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and rate it 4.5 stars. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for an advanced copy of Fear the Silence in exchange for a fair review. #FearTheSilence

Maggie is on duty as a trauma surgeon. Her husband is brought to the ER from gunshot wounds and is not responding. Upon his death she travels to their vacation home in Croatia. Secrets and a frightening letter reveal that she is in danger.

Maggie and Will are happily married and spend a blissful Sunday before Maggie begins her shift as a Trauma doctor at a nearby hospital. During her shift she is told that a patient is en route with gun shot wounds but when he arrives she is horrified to see that it is Will. As she watches her dedicated team attempt to save his life, she is frozen in shock but knows in her heart he is gone. When the postmortem then explains that he killed himself, the disbelief and horror escalate. After the funeral she travels to their holiday home on a small island in Croatia attempting to find peace. However, when a letter from Will is delivered to her there, it creates more questions than answers and brings anything but peace. Finding herself unnerved and frightened alone in the house, Maggie soon realises she is in extreme danger and with no-one she can trust and no means of escape, she becomes a prisoner in her previously idyllic home. Escalating terror on every page will leave the reader breathless with fear and trepidation. This well written story is extremely fast paced and moves from one devastating event to another in rapid succession. I absolutely loved this book and while the number of catastrophic disasters that befall Maggie may seem a little far fetched they are all perfectly explained to make absolute sense of all that happened. I look forward to the next book by this talented author.
