In his final year of high school, Dougie needs to find a job and get his driver's license if he is going to go on a date with Kimberly. His father buys a hotel on Catalina Island and Doug is hired as a bellhop miles from home. He is reluctantnt to his Island life, but eventually surrenders to it deciding to stay, only for his brother Cal to be on his way to replace him.

Doug is a great storyteller and this is a great book about teenagers in Catalina. You feel like you are growing up in Catalina. You remember your teenage days, first love and the innocence of it.
