Wow!! This was a old friends mystery that was full of twists and turns. Do not think you know what is happening because right up to the last page there are shocking revelations. This is definitely one book that keep me up late into the night. A once close group of college friends seemingly comes together after a tragic accident but as we delve into the relationships we learn that under the guise of friendship is violence, anger and jealousy that still boils over even after 10 years.

What a premise and setting. I loved the detailed ‘world building’ but I couldn’t get on with the characters.

I felt nothing for any of them and it felt so hard to slog through unbelievable friendships and characters.

This could be great if there was a bit more depth to the characters.

What do you bring on a ski trip? Anger, jealousy, guilt, betrayal, lies, secrets…and more secrets. Long time friends Tom, Rob and Julian have planned their annual ski trip to France, this time including Harry (Tom’s idea) whom they haven’t seen for years. There are arguments, usually fueled by alcohol, fancy restaurants, skiing and then Tom is dead, killed in a freak skiing accident during a storm. His wife Zoe calls her former best friend Ivy for help. They have been estranged but Zoe insists Ivy accompany her to France. Ivy agrees and leaves her toddler son in the care of her anxiety prone mother. What more could go wrong with this vacation? More than you could ever imagine in this deftly plotted thriller by Sarah Clarke.

The Ski Trip has it all: explosive action, larger than life characters and a plot with more twists and turns than a ski run. It’s a must read for all fans of psychological thrillers! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, HQ Digital and Sarah Clarke for this ARC.

📖 THE SKI TRIP : SARAH CLARKE
📌 PUBLICATION DATE : 14th SEPTEMBER 2023

I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of ‘The Ski Trip’ by Sarah Clarke - and WHAT A ROLLERCOASTER!

A seemingly tragic accident in the Alps - it left me second guessing right until the final page.
Time is certainly not a great healer in this world that Sarah has created - and with all of the twists and turns, the pages just turn themselves!

And that ending……well - let’s just say, you won’t be disappointed!

Now I’ve got to find all of Sarah’s other books and start to read those……another favourite author to add to the list!

Sarah Clarke's The Ski Trip is another snowbound psychological thriller along the lines of Catherine Cooper's The Chalet or Allie Reynolds's Shiver. Ivy accompanies her friend Zoe to the French ski resort of Moraine after Zoe's husband Tom dies in a freak accident while on a skiing holiday with some of their friends from university. But once they arrive, both new and old rifts surface within the group, and Ivy begins to wonder if Tom could have been murdered. Clarke does a good job of evoking the atmosphere of Moraine, and I enjoyed the snowy landscapes and skiing details. However, this thriller unfortunately did two of my least favourite things: featured not one, but two narrators who deliberately lie to the reader, not in a clever unreliable-narrator type way but in a lazy missing-information-out way; and had an unnecessary final twist for DRAMA which made the book feel even less credible. So while I loved the setting, I wished this had been better written.

This book was gripping. I was hooked from the very first page until the very last.

This is an amazing thriller. I loved all of the characters in this book (especially Ivy) and I found it so hard to trust any of them. I had no idea who was to blame until the very end (and I am that annoying person who always guesses the endings). The suspense in this book was insane - I found myself rushing through the pages to find out the next secret. There were twist and turns with every chapter and I was left guessing until the end. Oh. My. God. The ending! I actually dropped my jaw.

Sarah Clarke has beautifully written this book. It was a really lovely read; and the descriptions of the settings and characters were amazing. I could actually picture all of the characters and the slops - and considering I have never been skiing that is a true reflection of the writing.

I would definitely recommend this book. If you love a fast paced thriller, with twists at every corner and suspicion from the beginning to the end, you will love this book.

The Ski Trip by Sarah Clarke is out 14th September. Put the dates in your diaries.

Thank you to Net Galley and HQ Books for providing me with an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sarah Clarke may have come to writing a little late (after 20 years of copywriting), but she has certainly made up for it since! One of the four thrillers she has written so far, The Ski Trip explores the darker side of the human psyche when it comes to friendship.

Zoe's husband Tom has gone for a long-anticipated ski weekend with his friends, in the expectation of a little drinking, a lot of fun, and perhaps some male bonding. At the very least, it should have been an opportunity to kick back with friends, and enjoy some time in the outdoors.

Unfortunately, things don't quite work out as planned, and Zoe finds herself suddenly a widow, after Tom has a fatal accident on the ski slopes. She travels there with her friend Ivy to find out how it happened and to make the necessary arrangements.

But Ivy begins to suspect that things are not as they seem. The explanation for his death does not add up, especially since the slope on which Tom's accident took place should not have led to a fatality.

There were also, apparently, serious tensions at play between the foursome at the time of his death. So is it really possible that Tom's death was not an accident? And if so, could one of his friends have been involved?

Clarke delivers an absorbing exploration of those questions. This is a gripping story, and well worth a read.

This was an excellent thriller which kept me hooked from start to finish. I loved the writing style. I also liked all the characters so found it hard who to trust which kept the mystery going through out.

Ivy receives a visit from Zoe her old best friend at university they haven’t been best friends since night of Zoe’s 21st birthday after Zoe accused Ivy of something unimaginable. So Ivy is shocked when Zoe tells her that her husband has died while on a ski trip with their old gang of university friends. Zoe then asks Ivy to go with her to collect Tom from France Ivy refuses she can’t leave her son. But Zoe needs Ivy and is very good at getting what she wants. When they arrive in France Ivy starts to question Toms death could he really have just fallen or was he pushed. How much danger is Ivy in with these people she hasn’t seen in 15 years.

This was a fast paced thriller with all the characters having secrets. There was lots of twists and turns with an ending which made me gasp really wasn’t expecting it. Highly recommend this to everyone.

It seems that I have a thing for mysteries set in ski resorts! I read a few a couple of years ago and loved them, and I really enjoyed this book too.

The writing style was really pleasant to read; lovely descriptions of characters and setting, without too many unnecessary details to get bogged down in. The pacing was very good and the story held my interest consistently.

I love a book where all the characters have secrets and it was fun to uncover what linked all of the characters within this book. The only drawback was that some of the hints were a bit heavyhanded and therefore some of the twists didn't come as surprises, but there were definitely some that did.

The ending was very good, the epilogue may divide people but I personally loved it! I would definitely recommend this book. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

An ok read.
Four friends go to the Alps on a boys’ skiing holiday. But their trip is cut short when one of them falls to his death.
Zoe travels to France with Ivy to collect Tom’s body. While Zoe is consumed by grief, Ivy starts to question everything.
The slope Tom fell from wasn’t dangerous, and tensions between the group were at breaking point in the days before his death.
But if Ivy’s suspicions are correct, Tom was killed by one of his closest friends. And they are still in the chalet…
It felt like degraded version of The Chalet by Catherine Cooper.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.
