“The House Sitter” by J.E. Rowney is a gripping domestic thriller that delves into the life of Jude, a house sitter with ulterior motives. Jude takes on a job for Michelle Crane, a self-made social media sensation and entrepreneur. However, Jude’s intentions are far from professional. She is on a mission to find something that Michelle possesses, something crucial for Jude’s future. As the clock ticks, Jude is faced with a moral dilemma: will she betray a stranger to save herself?
The narrative unfolds with suspenseful twists as Jude’s backstory and motivations are gradually revealed. The story is set against the backdrop of the glamorous yet deceptive world of social media fame, where appearances can be misleading, and everyone has secrets to hide. The setting of the story in the social media landscape is timely and relevant, offering a commentary on the influence and impact of online personas on our lives. “The House Sitter” is a novel that entertains and intrigues, with a storyline that reflects the complexities of human nature and the dark side of ambition.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The House Sitter by J.E. Rowney in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I have read many other books by this author and was thrilled to be approved to read this before all my friends! :) The title and story line of this book was so intriguing and I couldn't wait to sit down and dedicate an evening of reading this. I loved this book and couldn't wait to see how it ended. It held my attention all the way to the very end and I was shocked.at the ending. I promise you that you are going to love this book!
An intense and suspenseful read. I loved this book! I've heard great things about J.E. Rowney and after reading my second book by her I have to agree they are so true!!
The plot for this one sounded really interesting but the execution was extremely poor. I have read other Rowney novels before that were good, but this one did not cut it. The story was drawn out, redundant, and boring. The amount of fluff in this book is crazy - it could have been cut and half and still had too much fluff! The ending was beyond predictable.
Whilst this was a fairly easy read, it was still well written and full of twists and surprises. I really enjoyed it and it’s an author that I will definitely read more of!
Another of my favourite authors, I've never had a disappointing read!!! I was hooked from the beginning & pretty much read it in one sitting!!
The housesitter wants the job to destroy your life and protect her own. A thrilling story that had me on the edge of my seat. The suspense is high and the twist shocking.
3.5 stars. This was twisty and left the reader guessing (or at least this reader). I was easily engaged and sped right through it, trying to figure out what the heck was going on. If you like a good thriller, this one will keep you entertained.
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC. Unfortunately I didn’t finish it. The story felt silly and boring.
Although this was an interesting read, it was sort of predictable who the blackmailer was. I didn't think the reason at the end would be why they were blackmailing though which left me a little disappointed. I did find this to be quite a quick and easy read but unfortunately the predictability let it down.
Thank you to the author for giving me an ARC!

Jude takes a job house-sitting for someone well known on social media, but she intends to find the means to ruin this strangers life in order to protect her own.
This book is easy to read! If you are looking for a book to read in one sitting then this is the book for you or if you are looking for a slow burn suspense then this book is also for you.
"The House Sitter" by J.E. Rowney is a captivating thriller that keeps readers on the edge with its suspenseful narrative. Rowney excels in creating a gripping atmosphere, weaving a tale of mystery and tension that captures the reader's attention from the start.
The positive aspects of the book include Rowney's skillful storytelling and the ability to build and maintain suspense throughout. The characters are well-crafted, and the plot unfolds with unexpected twists, keeping readers guessing. The pacing is generally effective, ensuring a page-turning experience for fans of the psychological thriller genre.
However, some readers may find certain plot elements predictable, and the resolution might be perceived as rushed by those who enjoy a more elaborate unraveling of mysteries. Additionally, while the suspense is a strength, it occasionally overshadows the development of secondary characters and deeper exploration of certain themes.
In conclusion, "The House Sitter" is a compelling thriller that delivers on suspense and keeps readers engaged. Rowney's storytelling prowess shines, making it a worthwhile read for fans of the genre. However, those seeking more intricate plot developments and character depth may find aspects of the book falling slightly short of their expectations.
Jude is a professional house sitter and is house sitting for Michelle, a well known entrepreneur. But there is a reason for this house sitting as Jade is being blackmailed by someone who wants her to find certain documents that will destroy Michelle. If she doesn’t find the documents the blackmailer will reveal Jude’s hidden secrets from her past. I am afraid that this book wasn’t one for me. I was waiting for something exciting to happen but when the blackmailer was revealed it was a bit of a let down.. The story just seemed to fizzle out and left me disappointed.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
To be honest I found this book a bit silly. I thought the way Jude reacted to all the goings on around her was unrealistic. I would have packed up and left the first night. I was coming up with all sorts of endings for the story each one more fantastic than the last but, probably in part because of these scenarios, when I got to the end I was really underwhelmed. Not a book I'd want to read again.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
Jude, a house sitter, is hired by Michelle Crane (a girl-boss who is huge on social media) but what Michelle doesn't know is that while Jude will take excellent care of her house while she's away, Jude also has an ulterior motive for being there. Jude is on the hunt for something in Michelle's house and only has a few days to find it and if she doesn't, her world as she know it, may come crashing down.
This was a really fast-paced read. It had me hooked from the start and I couldn't wait to read more. The twists were great and left me guessing until the end. I enjoyed the back and forth between stories (Jude and Libby) and I was trying to figure out how the stories would come together eventually. I enjoyed the writing style and how the chapters were shorter. I would love to read more by this author.
I would definitely recommend this book for a fast read with some great twists.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the chance to read this book for free. This was my honest review.
This book was a fast read with short chapters. I didn't find it to be much of a thriller as it was more suspenseful but it kept my interest. Overall a good read. Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC in exchange for my review.
Great book. I was hooked from the beginning. The characters were amazing. Well written… would recommend to anyone
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
Libby is in a trapped marriage. Once she's able to escape, she starts to breathe.
Til she's hired for a job and being blackmail.
Til the end..all a game..
Very good book. Would definitely recommend this book.
New author to me. Will be reading more.
Well written story
