First, thank you to NetGalley and J.E. Rodney for allowing me to read this/their book. What an intriguing story that kept me in the edge of my seat. I could not put it down and read it in one evening, because I wanted to know, had to know, how it ended. Awesome twist! Highly recommend!

This book is about a house sitter for a social media star. Jude took the job to destroy a life and protect her own. I found this to be an interesting read although it wasn’t a fast paced thriller, I did finish it in one day. It has some nice twists but I didn’t feel that sense of danger that I really enjoy in a thriller. Over all I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it.

When Jade Quinn gets hired to housesit for Instagramer Michelle Crane she is excited but also has reservations because someone is anonymously calling her phone and blackmailing her to get information from the Instagramer‘s house or they will tell all of jades secrets. The only problem is when she finds would they originally claims they want they now want something else. Throughout the book we also get a POV from a woman who is on top of her game professionally but slowly gets the rug taken out from under her. Of course there is way more to this twisty thriller than the brief summary I put this is the second book I have read from this author and have loved both of them I find her to be very talented and a writer who pays attention to my new details in those things that makes thrillers worth reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it I received it from NetGalley I am the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Good book! This book was a bit different! It wasn't a thriller, it didn't have any murder, blood and death type of book but it was definitely interesting! The storyline kept me glued to my Kindle! Like I said its an interesting read, more of a " more power to you" type book! Its definitely worth reading! I will recommend it! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

This author has written a page turner. Mystery and intrigue keep this story moving. Realistic characters are a major part of this character driven novel. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author.

This psychological thriller focuses around the central character Jude and her timely interaction with the world of social media influencers. Due to the amount of exposure to influencers that we see in the modern world, it was very easy to get quickly drawn in to this book and to vividly imagine the luxurious house set-up that one might expect the main character to experience within this setting. Once I was drawn in to the story, the level of suspense over different POVs kept me reading and the reasonably short chapter lengths made perfect reading for ‘just one more’ chapter until I had completed the book in less than a day.

The book is 164 pages in length and there is a twist which ties the ongoing story line up neatly. However, I do feel that the book ended too abruptly once the twist was revealed, and that further chapters could have explored the clever ideas behind the story in more detail which in turn would have left me feeling more fulfilled by the plot overall.

I would recommend this book to others as a thrilling quick read, which is well written and held my attention throughout.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The House Sitter

By JE Rowney

Intriguing and suspenseful. The very first sentence is an attention magnet! This story carried me on a nerve-wracking journey as the protagonist struggles with identity and motive. What will she do?

Jude is house sitting for Michelle Crane, a woman who appears perfect in every way. Successful. Beautiful. Wealthy. And Jude is there to destroy her or risk everything. What is so appalling in Jude’s past that would provoke her to sabotage another person who has only shown trust and kindliness?

The only fault that stood out to me was over alluding to what Jude had to do. And that feels like over-exacting on my part.

Reading this book, I definitely want to explore more titles by JE Rowney. I was kept guessing until the end!

Wow! I read this book start to finish in one day. I thought that I had the book figured out at one point but boy was I wrong. The amount of twists is perfect. Not too many where you can't keep up but enough to keep you guessing. This was my first J.E. Rowney book and it won't be my last. A couple typos but nothing that ruins the flow of the book. 5 stars, well done!

Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
*********************************************************

Michelle Crane is one of the most recognizable women on social media and if everything goes to plan, I’m about to ruin her life.

When house sitter Jude takes on an assignment acting for self-made ‘girl boss’, entrepreneur Michelle Crane, her intentions aren’t entirely professional. Michelle has something that Jude needs - and the clock is ticking on her window of opportunity to find it.

Jude’s future hangs in the balance, but when it comes down to it, will she betray a stranger to save herself?

A look into the weird world of “influencers” (or Content Creators as they like to be known now) and their effect on the people around them. And how these people can afford multimillion-dollar houses in Los Angeles because of TikTok videos just blows my mind. (Expect a lot of them to be sold as they cannot maintain their momentum or bills or the “lifestyle that they are used to”)
Michelle Crane is eye-rolling awful…and Jude is not much better. It is almost a battle to the finish with these two to see who will triumph. A good read that I will recommend to patrons who are looking for a ripping yarn. #shortbutsweetreviews

Gripping, powerful, well-constructed domestic psychological thriller. A clever plot that keeps you captivated - read in one sitting as so difficult to put down. The twists in the story keep you guessing right to the wonderful finale. Highly recommended read and worthy of five stars.

JE Rowley has made searching for documents captivating and compelling. Who would have thought?

Jude is a house sitter and gets an opportunity to stay in influencer, Michelle Crane’s home. Unbeknownst to her employer, Jude is looking for something that will save her life from burning to the grown.

The story is slow and does not contain much cat and mouse suspense or a really intense plot. However, something about the writing does pull you in. I don’t know how the author made searching for documents seem interesting but I wanted to continue reading to find out what Jude was searching for and why it was important. At the same time, someone named Libby Halstead is telling her story. I wasn’t sure why but figured it would work out in the end and went with it. As predicted, everything was revealed in the end and came to a successful conclusion.

I received an ARC from BooksGoSocial through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.

Book: The House Sitter
Author: J.E. Rowney
Publisher: BooksGoSocial
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: June 30, 2022
My Rating: 3.5 rounded up ~ although not 4 solid stars it was more than 3 !
Pages: 164

This is my second J.E. Rowney novel but I wasn’t sure about picking this one. I have read several stories recently about the weird world of “influencers” and some were good others only ‘Okay’.
The blurb starts us off with
Michelle Crane is one of the most recognizable women on social media and if everything goes to plan,
I’m about to ruin her life!

Michelle Crane’s company is “Paper Crane’. Yes in this age of technology there are many who love paper calendars, notebooks, colored pens etc. (actually I am one of those people!)
Although it appears that most of the customers love Michelle! She shares her daily routine of like and dislikes and fans love it!

Jude Quinn is a House sitter and likes it – although basically an easy job of living in someone’s house while they are away. She take caring for their personal belongings seriously.
When she gets a call telling (not asking) her to do something while she is house sitting; she believes she doesn’t have any choice but to do it.

Story alternates between Jude and Libby Halstead. At first not sure of Libby’s connection to Michelle but has me curious!
Although story is really short it is not fast paced and draws us in ~ s l o w l y.
The twist definitely fooled me!
It was an entertaining read !

Want to thank NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this early eGalley.

I received an arc copy from NetGalley, this is my fair and honest review.

This was a strangely positive book for a psychological thriller. There was the feeling of being watched and controlled but I only managed to guess one of the plot twists at the end. The ending kinda confused me as it was so out of the box but I enjoyed it and I was surprised that there was actually a positive spin on everything.

IVE JUST FINISHED! Jayne Rowney #jerowney
Wow bloody wow!
Fabulous, gripping, fast paced, heart racing, brilliant writing!
Loved this - I did work out the story but it did not make a difference because I didn't know if I was right until the end!
Fantastic! #proofreading #thehousesitter x
This had me hooked from the first page. Engrossing, intelligent writing from Jayne as always.
Gripping and realistic story. Characters did the job of being normal with a hint of crazy, I like the way Hestor was a strange one. The book had little twists and turns and at times I wanted to shout out to the character!
Great book Jayne

Such a great book. It was refreshing reading a psychological thriller that didn’t hinge on someone being killed. As someone who relate to Libby, this was written with accuracy and it touched me in a way I DIDN’T THINK POSSIBLE.

This was a completely binge-worthy read that I finished in two sittings. Jude is a professional house sitter tasked with spending three days in the home of entrepreneur Michelle Crane. Jude has only taken the job because there's something inside Michelle's house that she needs. An unnamed caller has requested specific items from the home, and before Jude could decline, the caller sent photos of Jude's past life that would be devastating if they surfaced.

Ruin another woman's life, or ruin your own? What would you do?

I believe this is my third read by this author, and with all of her books, she is adept at creating a moral dilemma that draws the reader in, which makes her characters instantly relatable. You won't always like them, but you will relate. The ending was open yet satisfying.

This book is available now on Kindle Unlimited and in paperback.

Compelling Suspense..
Professional house sitter, Jude, takes a new assignment for social media starlet Michelle Crane - fully knowing that this time time her intentions are not entirely…well, professional. The scene is set but just how far will Jude go to get exactly what she wants? Well crafted, tense and compelling suspense with a pacy and swiftly moving plot and a cast of deftly drawn and credible characters.

“The thing about identity is that it’s a construct. It’s just an idea. What is it that makes us who we are, and how can any of us prove that to someone else?” This thriller is about the power of reputation and identity. What may take patience and endurance to build can easily be shattered in a blink of an eye. What do you do when no one is watching? Jude, the house sitter is tested on many levels. When she is asked to house-sit for the beloved and adored Michelle Crane, she feels as if she has entered an alternate universe after she crosses the threshold of Michele’s world. “I feel like Alice in Wonderland after she bites the cookie, or whatever it was, that says eat me. I feel like an intruder. I feel like a fraud. And I am.” Jude must betray this stranger to save herself. The first sentence immediately pulled me into this fast-paced mystery. “Michelle Crane is one of the most recognizable women on social media and if everything goes to plan, I’m about to ruin her life.” I have enjoyed all of J. E. Rowney’s books and this was no exception. It’s extremely entertaining with nail, biting moments of high intensity. Thank you NetGalley for my copy.

This book may not be the most perfect book in the world, but it does its best to show you why sometimes cookie cutter books are the best to read. Now, when people hear the word cookie cutter, they get scared of it. I enjoy these kinds of books so much because I can just shut my brain off and enjoy the ride that this lovely author has given us.

Not to give away too much of the plot, I will try to summarise this book in three sentences or fewer. Which is about as long as one chapter in this book. That is right, this author has a chapter that is three sentences long, followed by a chapter that is one word and I could not have been happier to see a writer use their knowledge of writing to be so creative. Now, back to the plot of the book. The lead character is trying to move on with her life and reinvent themself. So they become a sitter for people's houses to earn money. It just so happens to be that her next house assignment comes with a phone call that involves blackmail. If she does not do what is asked of her in this house, then they will release all her dirty little secrets. That is all you get from the plot of the book from me because if I say more, it will ruin the book.

What people won't like is that it is cookie cutter. So if you don't like authors who have formats, then you won't like this. Also, if you dislike books with simple words and nothing baffling fancy like a five-star restaurants, then this will not be for you.

As for me, I really like these kinds of books and will continue to encourage new writers and readers to start with a book like this. This is a great book to learn from if you are an aspiring writer to be because it shows you why cliffhangers and formats work so well. It is also a really easy read that will most likely hook you in from the get go because the author does a phenomenal job of building their world for the first half of the book.

I liked this book's template and format so much that I went out and bought another book by the author to read and have become a bit of a fan of their style of writing. I like the way they do business when it comes to their twists and turns on every chapter that I have yet to be dissapointed. I only wish my brain saw the twist in this book coming sooner, but that is the beauty of getting caught up in the writing while reading.

I hope everyone enjoys this easy to read and follow type of book like I did, because we need more writers like this to entertain us. Just whatever you do, be careful when you try to reinvent yourself to hide from your past because you never really truly know people's intentions until the last chapter of your life.

Remember to read and stay out of trouble. Happy Reading!

Chris Humphrey!

THIS IS AN ARC REVIEW

This book started off strong. The book swaps between 2 different characters' POV, before the penultimate twist we see in thrillers.

I greatly enjoyed the suspense this author built up.. I was about halfway through when I realized I'd been flying through it because it sucked me in. Her way of writing is very simple and methodical, keeps your engaged, and doesn't draw the story out unnecessarily.

When the twist of this book hit, I said OH. it was not what I was suspecting, nor were there a bunch of senseless red herrings trying to bait you in anther direction. I really like the "smack in the face" aspect over spending the whole book changing my mind over and over about what may happen.

Overall, I thought this book was really good and I'd definitely recommend it. I will be seeking out other books by this author to read!

This felt like such a breath of fresh air! I loved the premise and thought it sounded really original and once I started then I flew through it! It is a really quick and easy read, it's not overly complex with multiple plot lines or dozens of characters and I loved that about it. It just focused on telling a story and did it to a really high standard without side quests and distractions. The characters are well written and the multiple povs work well. I also loved the formatting and the chapters, that did make me smile and also set the book apart from most others ove read. This is what fiction thrillers should be like

Michelle Crane is a popular self-made entrepreneur who owns a stationery company named Paper Crane and has a social media presence with millions of followers. Things change for Jude Quinn when she is interviewed by Michelle Crane for a home sitter job at the crane's palatial house. Jude gets the job when she least expects it. Jude has been very impressed with Michelle's social status, dedication, and hard work. Her duty is to look after Michelle's home when she is away. And thereafter, Michelle readily steps out of her home for a three-day trip. In three days, Jude has a job to do, and if she fails, she is going to be in some sort of danger.

What is Jude up to by intruding into Michelle's privacy when she is gone? Jude feels like an intruder. Jude feels like a fraud as she is trying to steal Michelle's documents that proved her identity, probably an attempted identity theft was happening here. Why and who has assigned her this task to do? Many questions creep into my mind as I read through the chapters. I was left with no clue almost at the end of the novel about who the anonymous phone caller is trying to blackmail Jude to find the documents to steal her identity. I could feel that Jude had no choice and was under pressure to save herself. The main reason she is there is all a plan of the caller. The caller - A nameless enemy.

There is another character Libby, Jude was previously known as Libby. The drastic changes in these two characters caught my interest to read the book. I loved the twist at the end and totally surprised me with all the repetitions of Jude's nature in the story. If you are looking for a suspense thriller and a nail-biting turn this book is highly recommended.

received this book from NetGalley.

This book was full of suspense and was a very enjoyable read. It really did keep me thinking and the writing made me feel like I was with Jude while she was doing everything in the book.

I figured out about halfway that Jude and Libby were the same person and that's longer than it normally takes me, so I enjoyed that.

I did think that Hester was a bit sketchy so to find out who the real blackmailer was came as a bit of a shock. I wish we knew a little bit more about Neil and what happened to him eventually, but maybe that would have taken away from the story.

Overall, a quick read that was really enjoyable.

The characters were so well written making connecting to them easy.
The premise of house sitting is more frequent in novels these days but this one really stands out.
Its written in such a way that the need to keep reading is high.
I got really immersed in it from the first page, and I found I didnt want to know what happened I NEEDED to know.
This author. is one of my favourites and I cant wait for the next book.

Jude, a house sitter, is hired by Michelle Crane (a girl-boss who is huge on social media) but what Michelle doesn't know is that while Jude will take excellent care of her house while she's away, Jude also has an ulterior motive for being there. Jude is on the hunt for something in Michelle's house and only has a few days to find it and if she doesn't, her world as she know it, may come crashing down.

This was a really fast-paced read. It had me hooked from the start and I couldn't wait to read more. The twists were great and left me guessing until the end. I enjoyed the back and forth between stories (Jude and Libby) and I was trying to figure out how the stories would come together eventually. I enjoyed the writing style and how the chapters were shorter. I would love to read more by this author.

I would definitely recommend this book for a fast read with some great twists.

"The House Sitter" by J.E. Rowney is a captivating thriller that keeps readers on the edge with its suspenseful narrative. Rowney excels in creating a gripping atmosphere, weaving a tale of mystery and tension that captures the reader's attention from the start.

The positive aspects of the book include Rowney's skillful storytelling and the ability to build and maintain suspense throughout. The characters are well-crafted, and the plot unfolds with unexpected twists, keeping readers guessing. The pacing is generally effective, ensuring a page-turning experience for fans of the psychological thriller genre.

However, some readers may find certain plot elements predictable, and the resolution might be perceived as rushed by those who enjoy a more elaborate unraveling of mysteries. Additionally, while the suspense is a strength, it occasionally overshadows the development of secondary characters and deeper exploration of certain themes.

In conclusion, "The House Sitter" is a compelling thriller that delivers on suspense and keeps readers engaged. Rowney's storytelling prowess shines, making it a worthwhile read for fans of the genre. However, those seeking more intricate plot developments and character depth may find aspects of the book falling slightly short of their expectations.
