The House Sitter is a pretty quick read. There are some intense, thrilling moments that just suck you in and won’t let go.

When house sitter Jude takes on an assignment acting for self-made ‘girl boss’, entrepreneur Michelle Crane, her intentions aren’t entirely professional. Michelle has something that Jude needs - and the clock is ticking on her window of opportunity to find it.

What would you do to save your life? Not your actual life as in being alive, but your reputation, the image of yourself that you sell to the world. Jude thinks she needs to save her life by doing things she never thought she was capable of doing.
The novel starts out quite well and it draws you in, but there's no real suspense and the end falls flat. Michelle is a strange character "without a soul" - and that's exactly how you'll feel about her and you don't care in the end whether the supposed damage to her reputation will happen or not.

This felt like such a breath of fresh air! I loved the premise and thought it sounded really original and once I started then I flew through it! It is a really quick and easy read, it's not overly complex with multiple plot lines or dozens of characters and I loved that about it. It just focused on telling a story and did it to a really high standard without side quests and distractions. The characters are well written and the multiple povs work well. I also loved the formatting and the chapters, that did make me smile and also set the book apart from most others ove read. This is what fiction thrillers should be like

The first-time reader of JE Rowney.
The House Sitter is about a woman named Jude who is house-sitting for a world-famous stationery owner, Michelle Crane. The only thing Jude had to do was destroy Michelle's reputation but how?
The House Sitter was a solid, enjoyable story, if somewhat predictable, hence the 3-star rating.
If you have just started your book journey reading thrillers, then this book is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Jude’s future hangs in the balance, but when it comes down to it, will she betray a stranger to save herself?

I started out really enjoying this book, the idea, the premise, the characters, etc. I really wanted to continue reading to find out what happened. I enjoyed where it seemed to be heading and then... nothing. You know those stories that are so good only to end with "and then she woke up, realizing it was all just a dream"? That was this. No, it didn't end with it all being a dream but it was the same feel. It was as if the author was on a deadline and needed to finish but had not idea how to wrap it up. Some books like this leave me excited. Wanting more but also okay with where it ended. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about this. I will not give up on the author but this book just did not do it for me.

THIS IS AN ARC REVIEW

This book started off strong. The book swaps between 2 different characters' POV, before the penultimate twist we see in thrillers.

I greatly enjoyed the suspense this author built up.. I was about halfway through when I realized I'd been flying through it because it sucked me in. Her way of writing is very simple and methodical, keeps your engaged, and doesn't draw the story out unnecessarily.

When the twist of this book hit, I said OH. it was not what I was suspecting, nor were there a bunch of senseless red herrings trying to bait you in anther direction. I really like the "smack in the face" aspect over spending the whole book changing my mind over and over about what may happen.

Overall, I thought this book was really good and I'd definitely recommend it. I will be seeking out other books by this author to read!

When Jude Quinn is given the opportunity to be a house sitter for self-made entrepreneur and social media personality Michelle Crane, it gives her access to a world that she never dreamed she would be part of. Unfortunately, it also lands her with an unwanted job alongside her house sitting one.

The glitz and glamour of Michelle's life is seductive, and it is reflected in her home. But Jude's assignment is actually to bring that charmed existence of hers to a halt.

Michelle may be no angel, but why is Jude doing this? After all, she likes the new life that she has crafted for herself. The answer lies with Libby Halstead and her controlling husband, and is best left for readers to uncover.

The book is an easy read, but without a very strong thriller aspect. It also felt a bit too long. It works best as a light read with a thriller element.

This book may not be the most perfect book in the world, but it does its best to show you why sometimes cookie cutter books are the best to read. Now, when people hear the word cookie cutter, they get scared of it. I enjoy these kinds of books so much because I can just shut my brain off and enjoy the ride that this lovely author has given us.

Not to give away too much of the plot, I will try to summarise this book in three sentences or fewer. Which is about as long as one chapter in this book. That is right, this author has a chapter that is three sentences long, followed by a chapter that is one word and I could not have been happier to see a writer use their knowledge of writing to be so creative. Now, back to the plot of the book. The lead character is trying to move on with her life and reinvent themself. So they become a sitter for people's houses to earn money. It just so happens to be that her next house assignment comes with a phone call that involves blackmail. If she does not do what is asked of her in this house, then they will release all her dirty little secrets. That is all you get from the plot of the book from me because if I say more, it will ruin the book.

What people won't like is that it is cookie cutter. So if you don't like authors who have formats, then you won't like this. Also, if you dislike books with simple words and nothing baffling fancy like a five-star restaurants, then this will not be for you.

As for me, I really like these kinds of books and will continue to encourage new writers and readers to start with a book like this. This is a great book to learn from if you are an aspiring writer to be because it shows you why cliffhangers and formats work so well. It is also a really easy read that will most likely hook you in from the get go because the author does a phenomenal job of building their world for the first half of the book.

I liked this book's template and format so much that I went out and bought another book by the author to read and have become a bit of a fan of their style of writing. I like the way they do business when it comes to their twists and turns on every chapter that I have yet to be dissapointed. I only wish my brain saw the twist in this book coming sooner, but that is the beauty of getting caught up in the writing while reading.

I hope everyone enjoys this easy to read and follow type of book like I did, because we need more writers like this to entertain us. Just whatever you do, be careful when you try to reinvent yourself to hide from your past because you never really truly know people's intentions until the last chapter of your life.

Remember to read and stay out of trouble. Happy Reading!

Chris Humphrey!

“The thing about identity is that it’s a construct. It’s just an idea. What is it that makes us who we are, and how can any of us prove that to someone else?” This thriller is about the power of reputation and identity. What may take patience and endurance to build can easily be shattered in a blink of an eye. What do you do when no one is watching? Jude, the house sitter is tested on many levels. When she is asked to house-sit for the beloved and adored Michelle Crane, she feels as if she has entered an alternate universe after she crosses the threshold of Michele’s world. “I feel like Alice in Wonderland after she bites the cookie, or whatever it was, that says eat me. I feel like an intruder. I feel like a fraud. And I am.” Jude must betray this stranger to save herself. The first sentence immediately pulled me into this fast-paced mystery. “Michelle Crane is one of the most recognizable women on social media and if everything goes to plan, I’m about to ruin her life.” I have enjoyed all of J. E. Rowney’s books and this was no exception. It’s extremely entertaining with nail, biting moments of high intensity. Thank you NetGalley for my copy.

This is a pretty low rating for a thriller for me. The idea itself was engaging, despite certain parts becoming repetitive. Overall, I thought it was just alright.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Compelling Suspense..
Professional house sitter, Jude, takes a new assignment for social media starlet Michelle Crane - fully knowing that this time time her intentions are not entirely…well, professional. The scene is set but just how far will Jude go to get exactly what she wants? Well crafted, tense and compelling suspense with a pacy and swiftly moving plot and a cast of deftly drawn and credible characters.

Thank you NetGalley and Little Fox Publishing for the eArc The House Sitter.
I can see where the description associated this author with Frieda McFadden. They both write with an unreliable narrator but that is their only similarity.
It was a good story, very quick read. I did not find it suspenseful.

This was a completely binge-worthy read that I finished in two sittings. Jude is a professional house sitter tasked with spending three days in the home of entrepreneur Michelle Crane. Jude has only taken the job because there's something inside Michelle's house that she needs. An unnamed caller has requested specific items from the home, and before Jude could decline, the caller sent photos of Jude's past life that would be devastating if they surfaced.

Ruin another woman's life, or ruin your own? What would you do?

I believe this is my third read by this author, and with all of her books, she is adept at creating a moral dilemma that draws the reader in, which makes her characters instantly relatable. You won't always like them, but you will relate. The ending was open yet satisfying.

This book is available now on Kindle Unlimited and in paperback.

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.

This was a great wee thriller, with a few twists and turns. I found the overall story very well written, engaging and exciting, but did find the ending fell a bit flat. It felt like it was wrapped up in a hurry, which was a shame as I hadn't seen the final twist coming.

Overall, a good, fast paced thriller.

Such a great book. It was refreshing reading a psychological thriller that didn’t hinge on someone being killed. As someone who relate to Libby, this was written with accuracy and it touched me in a way I DIDN’T THINK POSSIBLE.

Quick but somewhat predictable thriller. I love thrillers with social media references. While this was entertaining I didn't like that I guessed the twist. Thank You to NetGalley for making this available for review.
