Thank you to NetGalley and J.E.Rowney for my copy of The Housesitter.
The Housesitter had a very strong beginning. It was griping and suspenseful enough to have gotten me hooked immensely. I wanted to know exactly what was Jude's real intention with housesitting for thr famous and glamorous Michelle. With every new character introduced, your brain starts to wonder what their actual involvements are. But then it kind of went downhill there. It got quite repetitive especially with Jude's thoughts about it not being her true self and how she has to do it. How Michelle is innocent but she has to do it. It keeps being mentioned every other chapter to the point I started getting annoyed with Jude. The plot twist was kind of predictable and the reveal was underwhelming. The whole reasoning at the end just came out of nowhere that I don't even know what to think. What I did like was the message at the end of being able to just be content and happy with what you succeeded which kind of dragged me back in into liking Jude. The story was good but I don't think it was delivered well.
When Jade Quinn gets hired to housesit for Instagramer Michelle Crane she is excited but also has reservations because someone is anonymously calling her phone and blackmailing her to get information from the Instagramer‘s house or they will tell all of jades secrets. The only problem is when she finds would they originally claims they want they now want something else. Throughout the book we also get a POV from a woman who is on top of her game professionally but slowly gets the rug taken out from under her. Of course there is way more to this twisty thriller than the brief summary I put this is the second book I have read from this author and have loved both of them I find her to be very talented and a writer who pays attention to my new details in those things that makes thrillers worth reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it I received it from NetGalley I am the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Good book! This book was a bit different! It wasn't a thriller, it didn't have any murder, blood and death type of book but it was definitely interesting! The storyline kept me glued to my Kindle! Like I said its an interesting read, more of a " more power to you" type book! Its definitely worth reading! I will recommend it! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This author has written a page turner. Mystery and intrigue keep this story moving. Realistic characters are a major part of this character driven novel. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author.
I have a job for you....you are the security system.
Social Media influencer Michelle Crane is in need of a house sitter, Jude may just be the girl she is looking for. Actually Jude is the house sitter she has sought out for her expertise in other areas.
.
Libby Halstead was at the top of her game as a project manager one of the best in the business but when her relationship with her husband Neil wasn't going as planned she needed to make a change. Now Jude she has to do whatever it takes to make it on her own, even if it means doing something she will regret later.
.
Life is going well for Jude and she is very happy being a house sitter and tending to peoples homes while they are away. However when she gets an anonymous phone call asking her, no demanding her to do a job for them within in her house sitting responsibilities her insecurity to say no and be controlled by this person has taken her self worth to another level.
.
Michelle Crane maybe Sleek & Stylish but she is without a soul.

I was gifted a ARC of The Housesitter by @JErowneywriter, @Netgalley and Little Fox Publishing. For my honest Review due to be published on June 30, 2023. I really enjoyed the story it is very up to date with how society is today with all the influencers and social media. The first few chapters continued to refer to "I have a job to do", I kept wondering okay when are we going to find out about this job HAHA Soon as that part of the story kicked in I couldn't stop reading. I am going to rate this book a 4.5* only for the fact of the slow start.
This psychological thriller focuses around the central character Jude and her timely interaction with the world of social media influencers. Due to the amount of exposure to influencers that we see in the modern world, it was very easy to get quickly drawn in to this book and to vividly imagine the luxurious house set-up that one might expect the main character to experience within this setting. Once I was drawn in to the story, the level of suspense over different POVs kept me reading and the reasonably short chapter lengths made perfect reading for ‘just one more’ chapter until I had completed the book in less than a day.
The book is 164 pages in length and there is a twist which ties the ongoing story line up neatly. However, I do feel that the book ended too abruptly once the twist was revealed, and that further chapters could have explored the clever ideas behind the story in more detail which in turn would have left me feeling more fulfilled by the plot overall.
I would recommend this book to others as a thrilling quick read, which is well written and held my attention throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The House Sitter
By JE Rowney
Intriguing and suspenseful. The very first sentence is an attention magnet! This story carried me on a nerve-wracking journey as the protagonist struggles with identity and motive. What will she do?
Jude is house sitting for Michelle Crane, a woman who appears perfect in every way. Successful. Beautiful. Wealthy. And Jude is there to destroy her or risk everything. What is so appalling in Jude’s past that would provoke her to sabotage another person who has only shown trust and kindliness?
The only fault that stood out to me was over alluding to what Jude had to do. And that feels like over-exacting on my part.
Reading this book, I definitely want to explore more titles by JE Rowney. I was kept guessing until the end!
Wow! I read this book start to finish in one day. I thought that I had the book figured out at one point but boy was I wrong. The amount of twists is perfect. Not too many where you can't keep up but enough to keep you guessing. This was my first J.E. Rowney book and it won't be my last. A couple typos but nothing that ruins the flow of the book. 5 stars, well done!
I’m sorry but I didn’t care for it. It kept repeating the same sentences over and over again. I’m sorry it I seen the twisted coming. It wasn’t a surprise.
I have been on the fence about books by J.E. Rowney. I really enjoyed the last one; two books ago was just ok. This one was just ok. Jude takes a house sitter job because she is being blackmailed about things she has done in the past. While it was very predictable how Jude and Libby would be connected, there were a couple good twists in there. Overall, average thriller, but very easy to get through.
Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
*********************************************************
Michelle Crane is one of the most recognizable women on social media and if everything goes to plan, I’m about to ruin her life.
When house sitter Jude takes on an assignment acting for self-made ‘girl boss’, entrepreneur Michelle Crane, her intentions aren’t entirely professional. Michelle has something that Jude needs - and the clock is ticking on her window of opportunity to find it.
Jude’s future hangs in the balance, but when it comes down to it, will she betray a stranger to save herself?
A look into the weird world of “influencers” (or Content Creators as they like to be known now) and their effect on the people around them. And how these people can afford multimillion-dollar houses in Los Angeles because of TikTok videos just blows my mind. (Expect a lot of them to be sold as they cannot maintain their momentum or bills or the “lifestyle that they are used to”)
Michelle Crane is eye-rolling awful…and Jude is not much better. It is almost a battle to the finish with these two to see who will triumph. A good read that I will recommend to patrons who are looking for a ripping yarn. #shortbutsweetreviews
Jude takes a house sitting job for a well known influencer, but must decide between doing what is right for her client or right for her own life.
I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and enjoyable to read. I found the ending abrupt and wish it was worked out a little bit more.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and would definitely read others by this author!
This book is about a house sitter for a social media star. Jude took the job to destroy a life and protect her own. I found this to be an interesting read although it wasn’t a fast paced thriller, I did finish it in one day. It has some nice twists but I didn’t feel that sense of danger that I really enjoy in a thriller. Over all I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it.
Thanks to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for this Arc for an honest review.
At first it felt like I was reading 2 different books at the same time with the 2 different POV, but it all fell together at the end. And what a twist, I didn't see it coming at all. It was an enjoyable read.
First, thank you to NetGalley and J.E. Rodney for allowing me to read this/their book. What an intriguing story that kept me in the edge of my seat. I could not put it down and read it in one evening, because I wanted to know, had to know, how it ended. Awesome twist! Highly recommend!
Jude takes a job house-sitting for someone well known on social media, but she intends to find the means to ruin this strangers life in order to protect her own.
This was a good book, easy to read in less than a day. It did, however, leave me wishing for more than what I got. I didn't ever really experience a true sense of danger that would have me devouring words in hopes of finding the solution.
All in all, I would say it's a nice, easy read with some good twists. It just didn't quite have the wow factor I've come to expect from thrillers.
Thank you NetGalley and JE Rowney for the ARC copy of The House Sitter.
The House Sitter is a physiological thriller along the likes of Frieda McFadden and others. I really enjoyed the overall plot and characters. I found the book very engaging and was a quick 2 day read for me.
This has such a suspenseful premise, but I'm underwhelmed by the ending. Throughout the first 25% of the book, the narrator emphasizes quite a few times that she is a stranger who will ruin Michelle Crane's life. We don't get any clues as to why and it starts to feel a bit repetitive. As the backstory begins to come together, the tension builds and I could see the framework for a huge reveal.
I won't spoil the ending, but the twist wasn't there for me. I don't even know if it was intended to be a shocker or just simply a conclusion to the plot. Either way, I was disappointed that such an interesting premise fell so flat. I think we could have learned more about all of the characters and introduced more hurdles for Jude.
