Thank you NetGalley for approving me to read this. A very good read that had me hooked, once started I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend
This is the same as previous twisted tales, which seem to rely heavily on knowledge of the film for locations and character appearance.
Overall, I realise that due to this, twisted tales are not for me, but they will absolutely interest a younger reader.
I've read all of the Disney Twisted Tales series, so to be accepted for an ARC for this one was great. I love The Incredibles so this was the perfect story for me. Would recommend.
I'm a big Disney fan so being able to read violets and Dash's story about what would happen if they didn't follow Elasta girl to Syndromes island. I always loved violet as a character. As she tries to navigate life as a teenage girl where her body keep changing. Adding on top of that the fact you have just found out your mum and dad are superheros. It's alot of take in. Syndrome is also a very good villain. As he manipulates all of violets insecurities. I mean you end up thinking what a great villain he is. While hating him for what he is doing. Which to me makes an all round great villian. Violet learns to trust herself and her own judgements as she embarks on a mission to save her family and bring down syndrome.
Like all the twisted tales books, I’m struggling to get into the book, however I know I’m going to enjoy reading violets journey
As a big fan of The Incredibles, this book was perfect. I loved the different character points of view throughout. Well written and a fab storyline. Perfect for anyone who loves The Incredibles films or even those who don’t!
I read this book in one sitting it was everything I could have wanted from a twisted tale. This twisted tale looks at what could have had if Violet and Dash didn’t sneakily follow their mum to Syndrome’s Island. As much as I like Dash, I am glad the book focused on Violet as it taps into the emotions that come with being teenager girl but add on top of that you’re a superhero it’s a lot. I love Violet as a character but seeing her angst about wanting to be a normal girl broke my heart a little. Syndrome can go sit on a cactus as he manipulates Violet’s insecurities in his villainous favour. With help from some friends Violet eventually realises she can trust herself and her own judgement and she embarks on a mission to expose the truth behind Mr Incredible’s number one fan. Without spoilers there are some character easter eggs which I enjoyed.
This is the first twisted tale I have read and what can I say it was great. I loved the incredibles films so this book was a really interesting spin on these.
Violet sneaks out to a high school party but when she starts to disappear will her secret be revealed. When her parents go missing what should she do.
A light yet action packed story telling.
What if Violet became an agent of Syndrome?
The Disney Twisted Tales series has finally expanded to include Disney Pixar storylines, and who better to pen the Pixar debut than Twisted Tales legend Jen Calonita?
In her reimagining of The Incredibles, Calonita cleverly imagines what adventures the Parr children would have had if Violet and Dash didn’t sneakily follow Elastigirl to Syndrome’s island.
What if Syndrome found the children instead, aided by his girlfriend/aspiring actress Mirage? What if he distracted them with gadgets and lies whilst simultaneously manipulating Violet’s insecurities, convincing her to undertake his villainous plans?
Calonita and her amazing writing send Violet, as the main protagonist of the book, on a rollercoaster ride of self-discovery. Violet’s characterisation as an awkward teenager jumps off the page and the teen angst is perfection.
Violet just wants to be a normal girl and Syndrome takes complete advantage of this: Violet doesn’t know who she can trust and doesn’t have any confidence in herself, she is vulnerable, grieving and feels utterly alone. However, with the help of some good friends and by trusting her own judgement, Violet embarks on a mission to uncover the truth behind “Mr Incredible’s biggest fan”.
Amazingly, whilst expertly exploring this fairly huge twist in Violet’s story, the book still manages to stay true to the movie with the inclusion of our favourite characters such as Frozone, Kari the babysitter and, of course, the chaotic discovery of Jack Jacks powers.
Packed full of emotion, mystery, gadgets, villains and num-nums, Suddenly Super is a brilliant, easy read, perfect for fans of The Incredibles.
What a fun action packed read! Putting a twist on the original movie, this book has me hooked from page 1. Loved it!
The Disney ‘what if’ series of books has always given me joy, and this latest tale by Calonita continues to take our favourite characters to interesting places. I was over the moon to see them expand the range into characters created by Pixar. Focusing on Violet Parr as the main protagonist was an excellent choice as it taps into the conflicting emotions of her not only as a teenager but as a hero. The discovery of Jack-Jack’s powers inspired by the Pixar short was a lovely addition and made me giggle, poor Kari!
This tale may be twisted but in a super way!
As a big fan of The Incredibles, this book was perfect. I loved the different character points of view throughout. Well written and a fab storyline. Perfect for anyone who loves The Incredibles films or even those who don’t!
Perfect YR story for reading fans of fast action stories with gizmos and gadgets, and even more so for fans of Disney Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles’. All the family is here, but it is the children who take centre stage. The Villains might not know it yet, but they don’t stand a chance. Thank you to Igloo Books and NetGalley for the ARC. I’m not gonna lie when I say I was so excited to read this Twisted Tale! When they originally announced The Incredibles 2, I went to see it the weekend of release (using my cousin as an excuse to see it 😂) so I’m defo a fan of the movies.
This twisted tale is mainly focused on Violet as she becomes an Agent of Syndrome who as we all know is the bad guy.
This is a perfect addition to the Twisted Tales series!
Twisted Tales: Suddenly Super is a book all about Violet Parr from the Incredibles, a 14 year old with the ability to turn invisible. This story reimagines the events of the movie, wherein Violet starts working with Syndrome, who claims to be a friend of her parents but is not all he seems to be. Throughout the story, Violet and her brother Dash train with their powers, but Violet wants to give up her powers and just be a normal girl. After she thinks that her parents have been killed, she wants to try and keep her family safe by any means. I really enjoyed reading this, as Violet was written very well and definitely seemed like an awkward and emotional teenager, and her personal struggles seemed very realistic (except for the Super abilities!) I have really enjoyed other titles from this series, including Let it Go and Go The Distance, both by the same author as this title, and as a result, I felt confident that I would enjoy this book too, and I definitely did. I’d recommend this to anyone interested in stories of magical abilities, or any fans of the Incredibles, as this was a very enjoyable book and a great read.
