LOVED this book and the dual narration and POVS - lots of twists and "10 more minutes" - hard to put down.
Trying to put together clues of who is the titular brother from what we and Fallon knows was brilliant fun and getting to know more and more about each brother as the book goes on. Brilliant audio, and would definitely recommend this format for this book.
Horrible characters, great plot, fantastic narrator. Highly recommend this one! Thanks to NetGalley, the editor and the author for the opportunity to access this copy.
The Brother by N. V. Peacock
Narrated by Charlotte Worthing, Jack Bennett was a roller coaster of a audiobook. from start to finish. With a serial killer in the family, a family she didn’t know she was a part of! No one of safe..........
But,
Is murder in her DNA?
My mother lied to me. My family is not my own. If it wasn’t for the genealogy test, I would never have known I was the child of another woman.
Now I’m learning that I have four brothers I have never met. And one of them is a serial killer.
My brother is taunting me to play his vicious game – solving his clues before he spills more blood.
Who can I trust?
How can I find and stop him before it is too late? And what if it is me he really wants?
This audiobook was So good I listened to it all day. "Brilliant and 5 star audiobook!"
Kept me hanging on every word, the suspense was very well executed (not quite the right word) well written and a well planned plot. Don't want to give too much away but the storyline is based loosely around a woman who finds herself adopted in adult life and then tries to understand her family traits and keep her career on track at the same time. Kept me engaged until the end and really well done on the audio version. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
So I really liked the beginning of the story but somewhere along the way I got lost. I restarted the audiobook multiple times and got back and forth but couldn't quite get into the story!
I did however enjoy the narration done by Charlotte Worthing, Jack Bennett
Thank you #NetGalley #Bolinda Audio for this audiobook
This book is a real standout thrill ride.
Absolutely terrific yet terrifying at the same time.
Written with such clever intent that is relentless to the reader, twists aplenty and completely pointless in trying to guess identities. You can try but trust me, you will never know until the climatic showdown.
I loved this book, easily one of my Top 10 of 2023 and narrated so brilliantly that it sent shivers down my spine in such character arcs that bring this impressive story to life, luckily in the comfort of your own home…With the doors and windows FIRMLY locked.
Highly recommended.
The Brother is an intensely creepy thriller. We follow Fallon, a psychologist who after finding out she's adopted also finds out she has 4 brothers and one of them is a murderer, I loved the multiple POV's with the ability to see through the killers mind. I completely absorbed this in one go, I couldn't put it down, it is the perfect fast paced thriller especially perfect to get you out of a reading slump.
Another interesting thriller. I loved listening to it. Reminded me of seasoned thrillers. Absolutely wonderful feels listening to this.
I'm so glad I requested this. Bolinda audiobooks are always so good. I know they won't disappoint and I'm glad I always request for them. Please give this a listen. You won't be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this one, it was intense and creepy - Fallon who is a psychologist finds out she has been adopted - she finds out she has 4 brothers and one of them is a murderer! can she track him down?
What I especially liked was the two different voices. Firstly Fallon, she came across as a strong and resilient person who is not scared easily.
The second voice was for the brother - Oh my god that was creepy, he spoke very slowly and clearly - just as I would imagine a serial killer would sound.
A good listen which doesn't get boring.
Really enjoyed this audio book it had loads of twists and turns just what I like in a good psychological thriller
It centers around Fallon, a psychologist who has survived a traumatic event with the court date fast approaching A serial killer who uses a unique way of finding his victims.and a genealogy test that brings 4 new brothers into Fallons life.
I will look out for more by this Author
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to listen and review this book.
Fallon is a psychologist, facing a trial for the near death attack she survived and struggling with PTSD. Meanwhile, her brother, Ollie buys her a DNA genealogy kit for her Christmas present and discovers they are not blood related. Her mother finally admits her own baby died and her financially struggling friend who had a large family already swapped babies. Fallon discovers she has four more brothers. However, one is playing a deathly psychological game with her and she needs to discover his identity before he kills another victim, or for Fallon, worse yer, her.
A gritty psychological thriller, rather fast paced that will keep you guessing which brother is the evil one. You can easily divulge this book in one sitting as so compelling. A new author to me and one I will be keeping an eye out for, for more great thrillers.
I haven't read or listened to anything by N.V. Peacock before but the synopsis sounded like something right up my street and whilst I wasn't blown away, I did enjoy listening to The Brother and will look out for more from this author in the future.
The book is written from the points of view of Fallon, a psychologist who has survived a traumatic event, and The Brother, a serial killer who uses a unique way of finding his victims.
It's a twisty and compelling story that is told at a steady pace and I loved the intrigue surrounding who the brother was.
I really enjoyed listening to this book and whilst, at first, I found the male narrator talked a bit slow for my liking, I quickly realised, as the story progressed, that he was absolutely perfect and by the end I loved him as he added a lot of intensity and creepiness which added to the overall feel of this book.
Overall, a really enjoyable listen and my thanks go to Bolinda Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Brother.
As soon as I began listening to The Brother I was hooked. A great narrator too. Really keeps your interest
This is a great take on family dynamics and how the result of a dna test can change the course of two families lives I loved Falon and her deep rooted need for answers. She's feisty and is determined to uncover the secrets that she hopes will give her closure. Does she really neef to leave well alone? Who can she trust? Anyone?
Definitely one for thriller lovers who enjoy a different plot that leaves you reeling.
After submitting her DNA for a genealogy test, Fallon, a Psychologist, discovers that she has been lied to her whole life. She discovers that she has four brothers, one of which is a serial killer. With all of them having personality flaws. With no tangible evidence, and the Police unwilling to listen to her, Fallon takes it upon herself to covertly profile her brothers to uncover who the killer is...
I would like to thank the publishers and Author for letting me read and review this book. I really appreciate it. What an absolute great read to listen to. Myself and my partner binged this whilst on a long drive and he is not a reader however, he slowed the journey down just so we could listen to more chapters. Great style of writing and kept up gripped the entire time. Easy to follow and great explanation of characters and lovely character building. I would definitely recommend this book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Twisty! And will have you checking over your shoulder. !! Loved it, just wasn’t keen on the narrator.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. At first I found the make narrator hard to listen to as he spoke so slowly but once I got used to his character it suited him perfectly. There were many twists and the story kept a good paste. I would definitely recommend.
This book appealed so much, right from the front cover. The Brother follows psychologist, Fallon, who is seeing a therapist herself after her involvement in a brutal attack months before. Her brother gifts her the results of her DNA test, where she learns that she isn't related to her family. Speaking with her mother, she discovers that she has a whole other family, with 4 brothers! Fallon is approached by a police officer who has been using forensic genealogy to track down a serial killer and she believes that it is Fallon's brother. They then end up trying to narrow down which one is guilty, whilst the killings continue.
The book is told from the point of view of Fallon, mainly in the present but there are flashbacks where she is telling her therapist about her traumatic experience. These are interspersed with short chapters narrated by 'the brother'. I found the brother's voice to be intense and creepy and felt that this really added to the suspense.
It wasn't a perfectly written book, and I certainly had to suspend reality a lot whilst reading it, but I really did love it! I loved the whole premise of trying to work out which brother was guilty, and the excitement and anxiety of the games that the brother was playing.
I found the whole subject of forensic genealogy really interesting and loved that the author did acknowledgements and a letter to the reader, this is not something I usually hear in an audiobook.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.
This is probably the most twisted book I’ve read in a long time. Similar to the gut wrenching murders in Robert Galbraith’s books, this book really goes to that twisted place few people can imagine. It kept me guessing from start to finish and I just couldn’t stop listening. I loved the audio book as the narrators were perfect for each character. Would really recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a thriller or sickening who done it.
This is bloody brilliant isn’t it! Great characters and a plot with more twists than a twisty thing. Devoured it in one sitting
