Amelia and Friends: Global Adventures by Matthew Kendal is a whimsical picture book with a fantastical invention by a young girl's father. Amelia was given a gift of her choice because she had worked hard in school. Her choice was not one fish but a whole aquarium full of fish! Amelia is a good pet owner who properly cares for her fish and tells the reader about each kind. When Amelia's dad is chosen to go around the world for his work and take his family with him, Amelia is excited but worries about leaving her fish. Dad comes up with a fascinating solution to the problem. Amelia's delight in all aspects of her journey is evident. I was disappointed that the book did not relate anything about the travel destination, but it seems Kendal intends to write a children's global travel series. I hope he does because this book is fun, and Amelia is an engaging, curious girl.
Thank you to NetGalley and Matthew Kendal for this ARC.
Amelia is a bright and inquisitive girl who strikes a deal with her parents to adopt a fish if she excels in her studies. Little does she know that her academic achievements will lead to an extraordinary journey around the world. When her parents surprise her with a family trip, Amelia faces a dilemma—how to bring her beloved fish along. Thankfully, her father comes to the rescue with a transparent aquarium backpack, allowing Amelia's fish to join them on their global escapades. This delightful book celebrates the power of curiosity, the joy of travel, and the special bond between a girl and her finned companion. Readers of all ages will be charmed by Amelia's adventures and her clever solution, making it a must-read for anyone seeking a heartwarming and imaginative tale that sparks the wanderlust within.
Get ready to pack your bags and dive into the incredible world of Amelia and her fishy friend! This book is like a dream come true for curious adventurers like me. Amelia is smart and determined, and when she sets her sights on something, there's no stopping her. And what does she want? A fish! But not just any fish—a smart one that can travel the world with her. So, when her parents surprise her with a family trip around the globe, she faces the ultimate challenge: how to bring her fish along for the ride. But guess what? Her dad is a genius! He hands her a transparent aquarium backpack, and off they go on their epic journey. Can you imagine exploring new destinations with your best fishy pal? I couldn't put this book down! It's got everything I love—adventure, clever solutions, and the joy of discovering new places.
Amelia and Friends Global Adventures is a story about a little girl named Amelia who studies hard to get good grades. Her parents promised her a present if she worked hard and got good grades, so she decided on some fish and a fish tank.
Soon after, Amelia's dad has to go on a business trip to Japan, and Amelia is worried about who will take care of her fish. Her dad gets her a fish aquarium backpack so she can take them with her.
This is a cute story, and the illustrations are fun. I understand the important of teaching kids to work hard in school, but Amelia seems really spoiled that she gets everything she wants. Plus, taking fish in a backpack on a field trip around the world? I dunno.
But Amelia's fun and excitement is still fun to read!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
Amelia gets some pet fish because she git good grades in school, but is sad when her dad says they are taking a business trip as a family and her fish wouldn't be able to come. Then her dad buys her a backpack fish tank so they can bring them along and Amelia can take her fish friends on all of her adventures.
Cute book, but it seemed like Amelia was spoiled when her parents would pretty much give her anything she wanted just for good grades. Just a little impractical to teach kids they will be rewarded like that over something they should try for anyways
This is a super-cute story about Amelia, who studies hard in order to win a gift of her choice from her parents. Amelia chooses a fish tank with a variety of inhabitants, and lovingly introduces us to all of them.
The only problem is, when her father wins the opportunity to take the family around the world for work travel, what will Amelia do with her fish?
Luckily, an ingenous solution is found, and the family heads off to Japan!
I would have liked to see a little more of Amelia's adventures in Japan - even just her arrival and initial Impressions. But this promises to be a fun series, so I am hoping we will find out more in the next book.
