Fable by Adrienne Young
So this was one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever read. Had seen the book all over Instagram. And was so happy to be able to listen to it. The story was so alluring. Set in the high seas with pirates, treasures and adventures, there’s enough excitement to keep you engrossed throughout. I loved the narration which gave life to the whole book. I felt that I was sailing with them. And the twist at the end! I can’t wait for the second part.

Many thanks to Bolinda Audio and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The novel is exactly what is expected of a young adult fantasy and, while it doesn't quite reinvent the wheel, it is an excellent way to escape reality.

The narrator offers wonderful intonation and character-understanding which allows complete immersion into the world of Fable and Saint.

Overall, an enjoyable - if a little predictable - read.

After discovering Adrienne Young at an authors panel, I was so excited to dive into her Fable series.
This first feature is a great mixture of adventure, secrets, love and pirates - who doesn't love that!? I'm very interested in finding out more about her father and hope this is expanded upon in Namesake

It's been four years since Fable’s mother drowned in the stormy sea and her father abandoned her on a dangerous island in the Narrows. She had to learn to fend for herself and survive among the ruthless thieves. In order to find her father and claim her rightful place among his crew, she joins a young trader called West. But her father is Saint, the most powerful and ruthless man in the Narrows, West and his crew hold secrets, while rival traders plot against them...

Fable is a perfect YA novel, with lots of adventure, secrets, intrigues and likeable characters. Setting the action on the islands and onboard ships makes the plot original as we explore the fascinating maritime world created by the author. I definitely will reach for more books from this author.

Original review: I was fairly hyped for this, but somehow it kept not making the top of my TBR. I finally read it when preorders for the sequel started and I needed to know if I enjoyed it! Luckily I did, so Namesake is on preorder :D

Fable is a great main character - while she is fierce and wonderful, but she is also soft occasionally despite having lived on an island of thieves and having no one to turn to. I am DYING to know more about her relationship with her dad, his reasonings for doing everything. I feel I could happily read an entire Saint backstory, he feels like he could be a villain but also could possibly just be a terrible father? And I want to knoooooooooooow!

And I mean, who doesn't love a good pirate story? Liars, that's who. :D These pirates in particular are so awesome - they are a solid crew, and I always love a morally grey cast and a found family. We also get to see more about pirate-y life than I normally get in pirate stories, such as distrust between competing crews, stash hiding spots, epic storms. There's also free diving in this one, which I adored! So many happy ocean based things.

I wasn't super sold on the romance - especially as it seemed to go between extremes more than was necessary, but I did like the connection between Fable and West. I could have happily just taken it as friendship though.

The concept of a gem sage was something I found intriguing, and I really hope this gets expanded in Namesake - I feel it's going to have to be!

Fable is definitely a fun read, and I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel. Thankfully not too long to go now! 4 stars.

Edited to add - I enjoyed this just as much second time around and the audiobook was really good! Definitely added depth :)

Format: audiobook ~ Narrator: Emma Lysy
Content: 2 stars ~ Narration: 4 stars

Fable is the daughter of a powerful trader in the Narrows. Four years ago, her mother died, and right after that, her father abandoned her and left her on an island full of thieves. She had to learn how to survive there.

I had high expectations for this novel, but unfortunately, it did not meet them. I didn’t care about the story or the characters. The only potentially interesting thing was the setting. But the world-building could be much better. The plot is pretty basic and nothing special, and the writing didn’t stand out. I enjoy reading novels with more depth and complexity.

Emma Lysy narrated this audiobook, and the narration was good.

Thanks to Bolinda Audio for the advance copy and this opportunity! This is a voluntary review and all opinions are my own.

I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book, except that it was set near the sea and possibly had pirate ships involved.
Well, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I've heard a lot of about it, and while it wasn't 5 stars for me, I definitely understand why people really loved it.
YA Fantasy just hits different for me when it's well done.
I felt like like here the characters were well exploited and their dynamics interesting. Some side characters are definitely favorites of mine, and I can understand how they ended getting their own books !
The plot was quite original and I'm excited to read Namesake to find what happened with Fable and her crew.

The narrator here brought the story to life just how I liked it! I often struggle with audiobooks where there's only one narrator, but here, she was dynamic and read so well that I didn't feel that way at all. I'll probably continue with the audio for Namesake to be honest.

Thank you NetGalley, Bolinda Audio and the author for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for this audio ARC.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I had a fun time with this!

Fable is a brilliant heroine, so engaging, tough, smart and feisty. She really is someone you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her. Coming with a tragic back story and only wanting to be loved made my heart hurt for her, but don't get it twisted she can definitely handle herself.

Full of adventure, pirates, kickass women, intrigue, likable characters and of course a cliff-hanger, it's no wonder this book is a favourite amongst Fantasy lovers. I'm so looking forward to reading the second book.

Absolutely brilliant tale, I loved the audiobook of this! Emma Lysy‘s voice was perfect for Fable, she told the story in such a way that made it feel really immersive, as if Fable herself were telling her tale. Will definitely be listening to the sequel!

I really enjoyed this audiobook! I had read Saint a while ago so it was nice to be back in the world! Seeing Saint as more of a villain in this book was a little jarring since he was the love interest in the previous one but it was interesting nonetheless. I liked the characters and the plot was good; the pacing was a little off for me, it felt like nothing was really happening until the 50% mark.
I feel like the characters could have used a lot more fleshing out, so could the relationships, but I liked the glimpses of backstory that we got for the crew it definitely made them feel more real.

Overall, it was a fun read/listen, and I think I'd pick up book2 on audio because the ending was INTENSE!! Such a crazy ending, I loved it.

The audiobook narration was fantastic, the story however... meh. 2.5 stars.

I really wanted to love this. I thought I was going to love this. But it was just deeply okay.

My main disappointment, however, was the romance. What was that? This is not a slow burn. There was no romance or hints of romance for the first 70% of the book and then suddenly he has feelings for her and in the span of a couple chapters they randomly kiss and then he's in love with her. It makes no sense. They know nothing about each other and have no chemistry whatsoever.

And I also feel like the characters were just okay. I liked them enough but I didn't really care for them. The book was trying to give found family vibes but it was missing so much character development and background stories that it didn't actually work.

I think that the bones of the book were good, the plot was decent. It was just missing a group of characters that I actually cared about and a good romance. And maybe some deeper plot to hook me and not just entertain me. Give me that and it would've been like Six of Crows but with pirate vibes. Epic.

Book Review 📚
Fable by Adrienne Young - 4.5/5 ⭐

Audio book 🎧

This is the first time Ive come across a book that has a pirate character in! Was actually really surprised how well it worked. The narrative in Fable was absolutely brilliant with the narrator bringing Fable to life.

Fable is an undeniably strong female character, she goes through absolute hell and back again but doesn't give in. Her character is fantastic and I'm in love with her entire story. She's got one end goal and she's doing everything she can to achieve it. Young done a brilliant job in her descriptive writing, it pulled together beautifully.

The plot was what really sucked me in though, it's not just a slow burning romance book. There's so much happening and it didn't centre around the romance, which I loved! Yes some added romance is fantastic but I'm all for adventure first. Fable really brings the adventure to life with some romance thrown in. It's a win win for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bolinda Audio for allowing me to read this ARC - this is an HONEST review from my own personal opinion.

Firstly, thank you to @Bolindaaudio and @netgalley for the audio ARC of Fable by Adrienne Young!

This YA fantasy follows Fable’s story of survival and journey across the seas as she tries to reunite with the father who abandoned her the day after her mother’s death.

What I think what this book did really well was the atmosphere it created. The descriptions of the Marigold ship, its crew and surroundings were transportive. The narrator captured the attitude and voice of our protagonist beautifully and her expressions were spot on and added a lot to the experience (little things like actually coughing while speaking, if the text indicated that as a direction, adds so much to a story for me and I love when narrators do this!) and she also did a good job of differentiating the character’s voices with pitch and tone.

For me, the beginning of this book felt slow and it took me a while to really care about the characters, in fact, I’m not sure I ever really felt fully invested in their outcomes. The plot for me was fairly predictable so I’m not sure I will bother carrying on with the second book however, I enjoyed it a fair amount during the listening experience and there’s something to be said for that. So, if you love yourself a pirate/travelling across seas novel, maybe give this one will be a hit for you!

Fable was a fascinating pirate adventure story about an orphan named Fable. She was a powerful and independent young female main character. She has been trying to survive every day of his hard existence since his father abandoned her on an island when she was a toddler. She has a life goal and is prepared to try to achieve it. Her character is memorable and endearing. The global setting is magnificent sea life, and I can't wait to see what the next instalment offers.

The narrator did an excellent job presenting and bringing the story to life in the reader's thoughts. Her narration also aids the reader in getting into the tone of the novel and the maritime adventure vibe. She transforms this story into an ideal, easy-listening book for summer reading.

I'm pleased with the plot. I enjoyed reading about dangerous exploits with high stakes. However, I also like a good story about gaining trust and discovering companionship or a nonblood family. Although I believed the romantic seeds in this book were underdeveloped, I found it to be highly amusing and worth reading. The second instalment, NameSake, is out now. Me, it took me longer to listen to the narrator's voices grated on me.

This book has been on my list for a long time, so I was excited to be able to review it with the audiobook. The narrator was excellent, their voice soothing and also the intonations of certain words/phrases really gave me goosebumps. Fable follows the story of a young girl named Fable as she fights to survive in a world she was left alone in unexpectedly and uses her wits and grits to make a living and escape. I enjoyed it from the get go and was wholly invested in her struggles, rooting for her as she fought her way out of the island she was on and equally devastated when she finally confronted her father. I knew there was a betrayal on the horizon somewhere but the ending was a little different from my prediction, so I'm really interested to see where the next installment of the series leads to.

Special thanks to Belinda audio group and Netgalley for providing me an audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

I was captivated by "Fable," a thrilling pirate tale told through the eyes of a resilient female protagonist. Abandoned on a desolate island as a child, Fable's unwavering determination and cunning skills became her lifeline. In a world teeming with outlaws and rebels, trust is scarce, and Fable's journey is fraught with obstacles. Concealing her true self for years, she struggles to find her rightful place. Fable's narrative prowess shines as she navigates the treacherous waters of the Marigold's crew, unraveling their hidden truths. She's a formidable ally, yet her enigmatic past carries its own perils. The question lingers: will others embrace her or will she sail solo? The book concludes with a tantalizing cliffhanger, leaving me eagerly anticipating the next chapter of Fable's enthralling tale.

Fable was an interesting pirate adventure story following an orphan name Fable. She was an independent and strong young female main character. She fighting to survive every single days at his hard life, since his father abandoned her on an island as young child. She have life goal and willing to work hard to reach it. Her character is easy to remember and loveable. The world setting is beautiful sea life and I cant wait to see more to offer from next installment.

The narrator did good job to presenting and bring Fable alive in reader mind. Her nararation also help reader into the mood of the story and sea adventure atmosphere. She make this story become perfect easy listening book for summer reads.

I am happy with the plot. I enjoyed read about challenging adventures with alot danger and dead stake. But I also enjoyed good story about gain trust and finding friendship or nonblood family. Although I thought the romance seeds at this book was underdeveloped I still found this book very entertaining and worth to follow. I wish the 2nd installment will ready soon from the same company.

Thank you Netgalley and Bolinda Audio for provided me with this audiobook. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
