Delightful. Super detailed illustrations of a large family of cats visiting the Museum of natural history. From prehistory to outer space, there are plenty of rooms and themes to showcase everyone's favorite. On top of all the beautiful art, each page has secret hidden interactive doors that we can open to uncover more artifacts and fun extras.
Thank you, publisher and NetGalley for this eARC.
This beautiful book by Lucy Brownbridge defies description. Normally, a “lift the flap” book has few words and simple pictures in primary colors designed to catch a baby or toddler’s eye. This book defys the usual expectations for the genre. It is aimed at older children, ages three to eight. The cat family take a trip to the museum and each page explores a room in the museum from prehistoric to space exploration. Parents will appreciate that many of the art pieces displayed are variations on real art pieces, with a cats as the farmers in American Gothic, a Rodin’s Thinker statue, a Degas ballerina and Gougan’s self portrait. Lots of whimsical mice are hiding behind the flaps.
Cat Family at the Museum is a delightful read following cat siblings exploring the museum with their grandparents. Every page is filled with things to look at and windows to open. The story itself is equal parts fun and educational and is perfect for introducing children to the delights of a museum visit or reminiscing about your own favorite exhibits to explore.
The illustrations are really quite lovely and aesthetic, while still being eye catching enough for kids to enjoy. With so much going on in each spread, I can see kids reading this one over and over and seeing something new each time.
This is a great story for littles who love lift the flap books. The story, much as the title suggests, follows a family of cats that visit the museum and learn interesting information on different parts of history as they traverse the different exhibits. I appreciate that, unlike many lift the flab books, this one actually provides an engaging story. The illustations felt very classic yet not dated in look. It is also includes alot of doors for kids to open, which is sure to keep them occupied while reading the story.
