Bloody Brilliant!
It has become a habit to regret not reading Rayeβs books sooner. Can I just say, she will never cease to amaze me. The way she writes a novel filled with history, action and so many emotions and lessons is simply incredible. While I was not a fan of Teddy when I first began reading the novel, I quickly grew to appreciate her. Her growth throughout the novel was beautiful and even when she reverted back and made mistakes, she managed to create a connection. Berry was simply fantastic and hello, plot twist! I cannot wait to continue learning more about him and that EPILOGUE!!! Raye you were right, I loved it! I need more IAC! A rollercoaster of a novel that is sure to satisfy every fantasy and paranormal lover with a small hint of romance! Love it!
I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down! I literally couldn't stop reading this! One of the best books I've read this year! 5 out of 5 stars!!!! Obsessed with this series!! Each book can be read as a stand alone but they are interconnected in the world and some characters. This is a must read!!
I just reviewed Dearly Departed by Ralynn Kimie. #DearlyDeparted #NetGalley
[NetGalley URL]
Ralynn Kimie did it again π how is it possible I liked this one even more than my fav, Corpse Walker? I thought it was impossible but here we areβ¦ Ralynn has a way of sucking you in with her writing. This is book 3 in the Infernal Artifacts Collection, but book 1 in the Angel of Death series. This can be read as a stand-alone, but if you want to read all 3 I HIGHLY recommend starting with the first book, Corpse Walker. This book had me at the edge of my seat, there were so many twists and turns my jaw is still on the floor !!! I loved this book and I hold the whole IAC series very close to my heart π₯Ή I loved every character in each book, but I related to Teddy in Angel of Death the most. She is by far one of my fav FMCβs. This book is also a perfect spooky season read π€
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
Thank you NetGalley & publisher for this eARC.
I have read Discouri (The Infernal Artifacts #2) and I loved it. Which makes me to have a high expectation for this book.
And it did not disappoint! It already intrigued me to read The IA #1.
Love the character building for Theodora, of course she's being a teenager brat at first and every chapter, her character was building whenever she faced hard truth about herself. The action scene was epic, although I wish there was more to her power.
Loved the side characters as well especially Sam. I would love to have a bodyguard like him.
Ah, I'm sorry Discouri, I guess I just love this book more.
I have been realy busy, so I couldnt read it as my arc...
BUT I just ordered!!! I can not wait to get my hands on this baby!
So I was going to do a review for each of these books, but I couldnβt do it. Each review would have two words: FREAKING AMAZING!! I absolutely loved these! I also love that they are standalones so you donβt have to read them in any order. As a person who isnβt a huge fan of historical fiction, I am telling you give these books a try. This is fast paced and you add in the paranormal aspect and it is simply perfection β¨You also get to see the characters in this collection pop up in each book. I seriously canβt get over these books and whatever @rayekimie writes I will read
Dearly Departed is about and orphan named Theodora Sharp, granddaughter to Dorothea Sharp and protΓ©gΓ©. A becoming of age story the novelβs two biggest themes are death and grief.
Theodora is a young genius who by age 9 was the youngest piccolo player to play in a symphony, create a multinational company by 14 and graduate Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 17.She would later create Leviathan on the dark web where she sold weapons created with nether energy to hunters.
All seems normal as possible when she has a rude awakening after her 18th birthday. She was abducted by a demon named Lady Lenuta and the Lilo girls. In the midst of all this, she finds out she is deathβs scythe and that she was not adopted.
It turns out that Lady Lenuta was extracting nether energy, using it to try to turn humans into demons without any luck as they were on the verge of extinction due to hunters.
Secrets, secret societies, and mysteries unravel as the story progresses. Coming from a traumatic past Theodora had never handled grief well, exhibited by her juvenile delinquency. She also had an identity crisis exhibited by her eating disorders and feelings of inadequacy which stemmed from thinking she was adopted.
This truly amplified her feelings of unworthiness making her feel like she never belonged but always wanting to fit in. One can see how this would warrant an identity crisis as she simply didnβt know who she should really take after and how she would fill her grandmotherβs shoeβs.
The story mirrors the war within the heart and mind, chaos and storm brewing within that often goes unnoticed inside us. Theodora Sharp is a lost little girl on the path to adulthood trying to find herself within the chaos, who she is, her purpose in life as deathβs scythe. Her identity as a Sharp, is she a hero or a villain in the story?
Young adult readers and adults alike will relate to Theodora as we have all come across the bridge from childhood to adulthood constantly asking ourselves who we are, and what our purpose in life is so we can clearly define ourselves amongst people.
I am now officially caught up on the Infernal Artifacts Collection and I am obsessed. I love how the author has set up this world and cannot wait to see what will be next.
Teddy was a great character and I really enjoyed seeing her growth throughout the story. One of my favorite things about this book was her banter with Sam, especially with all of the little nicknames. Those were hilarious and I love that Sam just went with it.
The ending of this book gave me chills! Like I said before, I am hooked on each book series in this collection and am so excited for what's to come!
I had the pleasure of receiving this book and Iβve taken my time enjoying every chapter. Itβs well thought out and executed beautifully. Our main character is β from the beginning, suppose to turn our feelings on a head and force us to see the deeply rich character development. The absolute wild paranormal plot with world building that had me coming back for more more more. You should DEFINITELY read this and explore the inner workings that are the Infernal Artifacts Collection.
I loved this book! I understand it's the 3rd installment but I had no issue jumping right in without having read the first two. The author provides enough information that it was easy for me to follow. I loved the Hawaiian culture featured in this! It was a breath of fresh air to see different kind of paranormal represented. I look forward to more!
This was such a fantastic story and I loved every minute of it! It's vivid, beautiful, and crafted to make the reader really fall into this world. This story had so many different things working for it and together they created this beautiful story that the reader can follow along with and enjoy.
The characters were so well written and all the supernatural aspects of it were written to absolute perfection.
I couldn't put this book down it was so good!
Thank you NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I feel like there is some background information needed about the way of this world. The who's who and what's what etc.
I did enjoy this though.
Dorothea is such a great-grandmother character. The generation divide between her and her granddaughter Theodora is realistic, but could be explored more on the emotional side for each woman.
Sam seems like he will be a fun bodyguard.
I liked how Theodroa discovered her powers, but I wish it had been drawn out more and we see more from Teddy's side, and that Dorothea had more time to explain it to her.
I thought the kidnapping part would be longer but the rest of the book made up for it.
I read this in one go and was enthralled.
I received a copy via NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
This was a fun time. The Marvel and Supernatural nods were entertaining. Iβm curious to see where this series goes, I was not a fan of Teddy at first but she grew on me by the end.
I think that the story could have been longer and fleshed out a bit more. There were some transitions between chapters that felt choppy and disjointed. Overall though, it was a fun time.
I really enjoyed this book! I was hooked from beginning to end. I am definitely going to read her other books! Highly recommend!!
I wasnβt sure what to expect, especially after I started. Teddy initially comes off as a spoiled brat, who is taking everything for granted. But as the author peels back the layers of Teddyβs life, we, the readers, see that she is creating a protective sheet around her to keep the hurt at bay. Her character arc throughout the book is vast, vulnerable, and well-written. You come to love Teddy and her strong fixation on correcting her wrongs and protecting the ones she holds dear. She also grasp onto a savior complex and falls significantly short, adding to her many layers as a character. She has many faults but slowly learns to respond to otherβs encouragement and strength.
As for the story? It is a vivid and culturally rich journey of discovery, familial history, and supernatural wonder. It was really well-written and I found myself getting lost in the pages of this novel. The story has many components, and quite a number of well-developed characters. I enjoyed this book immensely, and look forward to reading another one of her books. 4.5 stars.
I totally loved this fascinating book. All the twists, surprises, action, danger and so much more will keep you turning pages through to the end. I loved it and couldnβt put it down.
An electrifying fantasy novel that takes readers on an unforgettable journey through a world teetering on the brink of chaos. The story revolves around Theodora Sharp, a young internet tycoon who finds herself in the clutches of rogue demons. Theodora's transformation from a captive heiress to a powerful force is both mesmerizing and thrilling to witness. With its intricate world-building and well-developed characters, Dearly Departed is a thrilling adventure filled with magic, danger, and unexpected twists.
From the moment I started reading, I was hooked. Imagine a young internet tycoon thrust into a realm of demons, danger, and deadly power. Ralynn Kimie's writing is like a rollercoaster ride, and you won't want to get off. This book is pure escapism at its best, and it reminds us that even in the darkest of times, there's a spark of resilience and strength within us all. If you're looking for a fantasy novel that's equal parts thrilling and fantasy, Dearly Departed should be at the top of your reading list. Don't miss out on this wild adventure!
Like all the other books in this collection, it didnβt take long for me to be completely immersed. It started off with an amazing prologue that left me wanting to know how that tied into the rest of the book. Iβll be honest, at first I didnβt care much for the character of Teddy. Luckily as the story progressed so did she as a character. Also whateverβs going on between Teddy and Sam Iβm so here for! Hope that turns into something more! This book then ended with a fantastic epilogue with a big tie into a previous book from the collection. Once again I absolutely cannot wait to see where this series and collection as a whole goes!
