Breadcrumbs follows Max and Micah as they enter into a fake dating arrangement, navigating personal insecurities and external pressures along the way. While the story aims to explore themes of self-discovery and standing up for oneself, the novella’s brevity makes it challenging to fully develop the relationships and conflicts.

For me, I couldn’t get into this story. The fake dating trope felt superfluous, especially since the main characters didn’t even live in the same region of the country. Everything felt rushed, and I struggled to feel invested in their relationship. I also truly disliked Micah’s sister and the way she treated him. However, I did resonate with Max’s journey of learning to be okay with herself and rejecting breadcrumbs in life. That aspect of the story was compelling and worth noting.

A novella about modern dating! Max and Micah meet on a dating app and what appears to be just a typical hookup turns into so much more. Even though short, this was a really cute story and I loved how it portrayed that people can randomly meet but then end up being everything for one another.

This book was your middle of the road sort of rom com. I liked that the storyline was quite realistic and not overly exaggerated and covers quite a few topics such as insecurities, romance, grief and loss and found both characters (Max and Michah) were loveable.

Life is not always going to be what we want them to be, so we have a lot to learn, they don't mention it on the book, but it was what i learnt from it.

Max and Micha decide to fake date to make her ex jealous and appease his interfering family in this romance novella.

This one started off strongly with the airport toilet and the smutty first couple of encounters (even if Max’s ex was a bit too ridiculously awful). The characterisation was strong and I had a real sense of who each of the main characters were and I did root for them (mostly). I must admit I didn’t really enjoy the congresswoman storyline - especially because I’ve not studied American politics since high school and it’s not really something I’m interested in. Well, that and also Cindy annoyed the crap out of me with her patronising anecdotes.

Overall this one was just generally fine and I enjoyed it while reading it well enough but I doubt I will give it much more thought now I’ve finished.

All in all, this book has definitely made my list of cozy contemporary romance, and I cannot wait to see what Alicia Wilder writes next. From the wonderful backdrop to the fun cast of characters; everything in this book was top notch and absolutely perfect!

I do not normally gravitate towards novellas because I think it is very difficult for an author to develop characters to my satisfaction in so few pages. I think the author of Breadcrumbs personal experiences and desire to develop a female lead character with a personality disorder resulted in me finding this novella to be not a generic regurgitation of the same old story. This story felt very rough, real, and at times ugly. The lead character's difficulty fully exiting her relationship with her live-in boyfriend felt very raw and truthful. I also thought the male lead's actions and desires to live his life to the fullest and without regrets after his father's passing also left me feeling empathetic yet frustrated. I am excited to read more of Alicia Wilder's publications.

This was a fun and cute novella rom com. It was easy to read and I particularly enjoyed the dual pov which helped to see both characters view points!
There were some important topics covered in this book but understandably due to the length they could not be explored as much as in maybe a full novel.
Max and Micah were interesting characters and I’ll always enjoy a bit if fake dating. Id recommend you give this book a try and see what you think.

This novella follows Max who has been living with her ex-bf, Ben, in a one-bedroom apartment for 3 months because she cannot afford to move out. Are you telling me a grown woman with a stable job cannot afford a place alone? She goes on a dating app and matches with Micha, who cannot commit to anything and lives in a different state. The chemistry between them felt like both of them were on drugs and this is one of their episodes. It felt childish and not sexy to me.

Thank you netgalley for providing this arc!

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and of course the author for gifting me this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I don’t need a romance novella to follow a certain path or even a clear path, but this felt like it had a lot of missing elements and possibly key plot-turning moments. At times I found myself skipping back to make sure I didn’t accidentally skip a page or two.

With that said, it was good and had potential, and I would be interested in reading a novel length romance from the author!

Thank you netgalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a super quick novella and unfortunately it fell flat for me. I didn’t believe their relationship at all and I felt as though there were some plot holes.

I read this and found it to be not that interesting. I would not recommend it to my library's patrons. I appreciate access to this title.

I want to re-read this book again for the first time! Too cute! 🥰I can't say it enough! I LOVED this book! If it is not at the top of your TBR list, it should be!

When you’re reading something that exactly describes you, you can’t help but just feel attach and love this so much. It’s nothing special, but for me this is a book that give me strength to hold on to believe that it’s totally okay to feel afraid for the future but still remember to live at the present moment.

This was a novella, and I usually have a hard time rating novellas 5 stars, so I knew this was going to be a 4 at best. Maybe that’s unfair, but I think with such little time to develop a connection to the story, characters, and more, rating something 5 would be too generous.

I enjoyed the characters in this, but I didn’t feel connected to them.
The storyline idea was good, it was cute.
With this being 100 pages I think generally I found it all mediocre. It was fun, a quick and cute one-sitting read.

I liked the anxiety representation but it felt only briefly touched upon and not developed enough for me.

I requested this Novella on NetGalley and was accepted. So here’s my review ❤️

It is Dual POV and written in the First Person (so that’s a bonus!).
Trope: Fake Dating

A short Novella that I thought it was just the usual romance. Turns out it’s more than that. This novella covers the subject of romance with the right amount of spice, anxiety and death of a parent (and the grief that comes with it).

I loved the way Alicia Wilder handled these subjects. I loved the fact that the author was straight forward about the way one might experiences anxiety. And how one might handle grief.

This book also helps you understand to put yourself and your needs first. And to just dump toxic people 🗑️

This brings me to my conclusion. Although it’s a novella - I think it’s a must read regardless your age since it covers great topics. It’s helpful but also fun!

Apparently, this is Alicia Wilde’s first romance and it was very well done. I look forward to reading more of this author’s work! ❤️

The start was four stars for me because it had more of a Rom com vibe I was looking for, but then it headed down a heavy road of what to do with life and so on and wasn't quite what I expected.
I liked Max and Micah they were polar opposite that's somehow really fit well together and their story was cute.
A fun little read.
