I was not familiar with this author but now will read anything he writes.

So I am not the best at cracking codes, which may be why I can see the beauty in this book but didn’t quite ‘get it. It would be absolutely perfect for people who love a little bit of a brain work out when they read - I however love to pretty much turn off my brain.
It however had an interesting plot and was well written!

A great mystery that kept me interested throughout. The storyline is compelling, a young man wakes up with no memory of recent events and is accused of murder, but of course there’s always more to the story than meets the eye! The book includes some excerpts that confused me a little at first, but it all came together in the end. The storyline is fast paced and keeps you on your toes, with a good amount of character development throughout.

Abraham Lopez did an excellent job! This book kept me on my toes. Would recommend this book for everyone!

The novel unravels each tangled string of evidence to get to the truth. Cleverly crafted and keeps the reader captivated to the final page.

Cleverly written and with intriguing characters. It moves at a fast pace and doesn't allow itself to get bogged down in its own cleverness and unnecessary detail. With a title like The Mousetrap Murders, I really wanted to love this book. The premise of the novella is that Julian Gutierrez is sitting on deathrow, waiting for his inevitable execution for the murder of a young college student. He has always maintained his innocence, however few people other than his sister believed him. Then a postcard arrives for Julian from a potential witness who states he knows that Julian is innocent and that he saw the killer. This prompts Julian's sister Val to investigate, determined to find the true killer and save her brother's life.

Sounds like a great plot, right? And it is, so the question is why this book just didn't work for me. Upon reflection, I think that the focus of the book was on cracking the coded clues that the killer left behind. However unless you are really into code-breaking, that isn't where the real interest lies. For many readers, including myself, the interest lies in the human aspect of the story, along with unravelling the mystery.

The characters were not really fleshed out and felt a bit wooden to me. And the immersion in the details of cracking the codes made my eyes glaze over a bit. It just felt like an immense effort to be very clever. In reality I doubt anyone would have ever solved it and poor Julian would have met his maker.

"The Mousetrap Murders" begins with the perspective of a man, Julian, who wakes up in his car with no memory. 24 hours later he is framed for the murder of a young woman. From the get go, this book keeps the reader hooked with the bits and pieces of clues that begin to shape up throughout the narrative. Information that seems out of place or unimportant find their relevance as the protagonists try to save Julian. What they didn't know was that they were getting tangled up in a massive conspiracy.

This was a quick read that kept me hooked throughout the narrative. While readers know early on that Julian is innocent, it is easy to empathize with his cause. The excepts of the Manifesto seemed out of place early on, but their importance soon came to light. I enjoyed knowing more than the protagonists at certain points and making the connections between the Manifesto and the murders.

I am used to reading first-person narratives so there was a bit of a learning curve for me. I also got lost in some key details towards the beginning as I was sorting between the Manifesto story and the main story. However, everything came together in a big teeth-clenching, heart pounding ending.

"The Mousetrap Murders" is a thrilling read from start to finish that will encapture those who are thriller experts to those who would like to dip their toes into the genre. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to more publications from Abraham Lopez.
