Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the eARC of The Love Interest! All opinions in this review are my own.
Liv has always wanted to write her own romance novel but she struggles for inspiration for her leading man. When she unconsciously bases her love interest on her brother's best friend Aiden, she realizes that she has feelings for him too.
Hate to love is always tricky for me because if the characters hate each other too much in the beginning, it's hard to convince me that they then fall for each other. Walters does this trope well by making Aiden always have feelings for Liv and Liv just being mad about a miscommunication between them from years ago. I found the pacing to be a little slow, but once Liv and Aiden got together, I really enjoyed it!

This is the first book I have read by this author but it most definitely won't be my last!!
This novel consists of 45 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
WOW!!!! What can I say?!?! What an absolutely fantastic book that I fell in love with!!! I cannot wait to read more books by this extremely talented author!
This book is beautifully written with vivid descriptions setting the picture perfectly in the readers mind. The title, description and cover works perfectly with the storyline.
An absolutely gorgeous, fun, lovable, hilarious romcom that will have you absolutely hooked from the first page to the last!! This book is an absolutely gorgeous read filled with books, fun and love!!! It is an absolute rollercoaster ride of emotions filled with attitude, passion, friendship, family, romance, humour and so much more. I was completely swept away with the storyline and loved getting completely lost in the pages! The fact that a lot of the scenes are set in a library is definitely a book lovers dream and getting lost in a book filled with books is just a HUGE YES from me!!! This book has everything and anything you could ask for in a rom com with enemies to lovers sass, steam, comedy and of course romance then if your a fan of those what on Earth are you still doing here? Go grab your copy of this absolutely brilliant page tuner now. It will definitely turn a frown upside down and you wont regret it. It is an easy to read, fun story that is perfect for cuddling up with a hot chocolate on a cold day or reading on the beach while topping up your tan. It was one of those amazing books that there was no way I could put down. I was utterly glued to the pages was carrying my phone or kindle every chance that I got and each and every time I attempted to promise myself just one more chapter, well there was just no chance and I completely devoured it in one sitting!! Victoria's absolutely fantastic writing skills really pulls you into the storyline where it feels like you are standing right next to Liv going through everything that she is. I adored the addition of a playlist that Victoria has included at the end of this book and that i had a lot of fun listening to. An absolutely brilliant idea so thank you for that Victoria, definitely got some new favourite songs from that one! I cannot wait to get stuck into more books by this absolutely fantastic author and I have no idea how I have not read any of her books so far!! Well that has changed and I have added every one of her books to my Amazon wish list and will be getting each and every one of them as soon as I can!! Congratulations Victoria on a stunning storyline that has definitely cheered me up and had me laughing until my eyes were streaming with tears!!
Clear your schedules as this is one gorgeous and unputdownable stunner ❤️
OMG I absolutely love, Love, LOVED these absolutely larger than life and memorable characters!!! Each and every one of them are strong, realistic and I became completely invested in them all. They all had their own problems, qualities, feelings and all had unique personalities and I just absolutely loved getting to know them all. I felt each of their love , friendship, humour, heartbreak, happiness and so much more. I absolutely loved the main protagonists Olivia and Aiden who were both such strong, relatable and unforgettable characters. My heart went out to Jo who really wasn't having any luck in her writing work or love life. I absolutely loved seeing her go from strength to strength and seeing the difference in her from the beginning of the book to what she was like at the end was absolutely amazing!! I love seeing strong female leads in books being female myself and Liv really is a brilliant woman! The fact that she is a librarian who wants to write her own book definitely gave her bonus points!!! i adore any book that contains anything literary in the topic and having a librarian protagonist and a female one is definitely a big hit for me!!! Moving on to Aiden, well he is Irish so need I say more??? Definitely extra points for that one Victoria!! I absolutely love an Irish accent and Victoria's amazing writing skills ensured I heard all of the dialogue through the pages. In fact her writing skills are so vivid and evocative it felt like I was standing right next to Liv throughout feeling, seeing and hearing absolutely everything that she was!! I adored the banter between Aiden and Olivia along with all of the interactions between these two amazing characters as well as all the interactions between them, Stevie, Dan and Theo to name a couple. These are all amazing characters and the fact that Victoria actually cares about her characters shines through the pages. The only negatives I can give is that they are only fictional as they felt so life like when I was reading them I was gutted to come to the end and have to say goodbye and the fact that unless this is going to be made into a series , hint hint Victoria (I would love to see the other characters stories!!) or a movie then I wont see them again!! Well done Victoria on creating a great, unique and unforgettable gang of characters that i am already missing!! I cannot wait to meet more of your characters in your previous and future books!!
Congratulations Victoria on an absolutely gorgeous, fantastic stunner filled with everything you could one in a page turner!!! I am looking forward to reading more of your previous and future book. I would absolutely love to see this book turned into a movie!!! This is why I would like to welcome you to my favourite author list and here's to your next success 🥂

I was in a bit of a reading slump lately but "The Love Interest" got me out of it. It took me one day to read it.
I really loved the enemies to lovers vibe. Olivia and Aidens chemistry was amazing. Definitely made up for the slow start of the Story. I love the characters and their development was wonderful. If you love brother’s best friend and enemies to lovers then you will enjoy this book.
I am a huge fan of Victoria and her work. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every book that she has released to date. When I heard that Victoria was due to release another book, I knew I had to grab a copy and hibernate until I had read the very last word on the very last page. Victoria's latest book is called 'The Love Interest' and it was released on 12th February 2924. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Love Interest' but more about that in a bit.
It took me no time at all to get into 'The Love Interest'. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first few pages, I realised three things - firstly that I was reading something special, secondly that I would become addicted to the story and thirdly that I would find it nigh on impossible to put the book down. I was spot on with all three predictions. I started reading and didn't stop. My Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. Part of the reason why I enjoyed the story so much has to do with the main characters of Liv and Aiden. Aiden being the best friend of Liv's brother. Liv and Aiden do get on but they do tend to start bickering. Nobody can deny that there's a spark between them. I developed my own theory as to what was going to happen and so I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered in the opposite direction. I was so wrapped up in the story and in the lives of the characters that I didn't realise just how quickly the time was passing and how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of 'The Love Interest' and I had to say goodbye to Liv, Aiden and the other characters. I found 'The Love Interest'' to be a light hearted, fun, sizzling romance with a generous helping of humour along the way.
'The Love Interest' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Victoria Walters. Victoria has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact Victoria's books often read like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. Victoria clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. In fact some of the characters in this book ended up feeling more like friends than anything else. I love the way in which Victoria makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action- at least that's how I felt. As I mentioned above, the story is full of fun and light hearted moments with a lot of laughs along the way. I have to say that this story sizzles and the tension between the two main characters crackles. I loved everything about 'The Love Interest'.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Love Interest' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Victoria's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
3.3⭐️
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this eARC.
Liv and Aiden have hated each other for ten years… or have they? As the saying goes, there is a fine line between love and hate!
This was a light easy read and had some very cute scenes. However, I found it a bit hard to continue being invested once Liv and Aiden actually got together, as the dialogue got a bit corny and repetitive. I also didn’t find their disagreement compelling or believable, so was glad when it got resolved.
Overall a very quick read and one that would be good for a beachy holiday.
Well this was just okay.
If I'd need to rate it'd definitely be a 2.5 stars. The book isn't bad but I was so bored almost all the time, the characters aren't good, they're actually annoying AF. And God I got so tired of Mr Darcy being mentioned, it was TOO MUCH! It became super cringe, all that Mr Darcy talk like the FMC were a teen and I won't say the MMC is better, he is just a flat character.
I'm not really into immature characters or romance with lack of communication so I really think that was my biggest issue. I love enemies to lovers, definitely my favorite, and this one has amazing enemies side but the lovers part was not it for me.
I won't say I don't recommend it as one of my book besties loved it so its probably just not for me but others will definitely enjoy it.
The Love Interest is a sweet, romantic comedy that follows a book loving girl named Liv and her brothers best friend, Aiden. Liv is attempting to write her own romance novel and the progression of her story with this story runs side by side. There’s an extensive use of tropes in this book (enemies to lovers, workplace romance, brothers best friend, forced proximity) along with lots of cute and adorable banter!
If you love sweet and swoony romcoms with lots of film and literary references, this one is for you. I even learned that She’s the Man and 10 Things I Hate About You are Shakespearean reworks. Didn’t know that at all!!
This book is perfect for enemies to lovers fans. It's made even better because the FMC is a librarian. I always love books set in the book world.
This was my first book by Vicky Walters and I will definitely look into her backlist, which is quite impressive.
Now when I started this book I knew the 2 characters would fall in love, it was a little predictable but it was also a comfy read.
I loved the forced proximity, the enemies to lovers, the brothers best friend tropes this book. I liked the 2 main characters I thought they were cute. I also liked the few spicy scenes we got and the little references to pride and prejudice.
I didn’t love the snippets of the FMC book in between the storyline was a little bit confusing but overall I liked the romance between liv and Aidan.
Liv Jones is a university librarian with a passion for romance and Mr Darcy in particular. After an unfortunate incident at a party when they were much younger, she and her brother's best friend Aidan Rivers are practically sworn enemies. So when her brother invites Aidan to share their flat when he moves to London Liv is furious, especially when she discovers that he is going to be a lecturer at her university! The trouble is, with his entrancing Irish accent, his dashing good looks and his ridiculous charm Aidan is the spitting image of Mr Darcy and just happens to be the (unknowing) model for the hero in Liv's very own attempt at writing a romance novel.
When her brother is injured in a road accident, Liv and Aidan are left alone in the flat, and soon the needling seems less like dislike and more like sparks, but since Aidan is so much more experienced than Liv is she reading too much into things?
I started reading this and left off about halfway through. When I picked it up again a few weeks later I couldn't remember anything about the plot and I think that probably sums up my feelings about this novel. It was pleasant and I can imagine reading it lying beside a pool on my summer holidays, but nothing really sang to me.
Just read my notes from when I broke off reading, apparently Liv is only working part-time but apparently has an amazing wardrobe and walks to work in four inch heels - in London? Is she mad?
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.
Also available on Kindle Unlimited.
I adore Vicky’s Books, as they always give me a cosy warm vibe that I can enjoy with a cup of tea but wow she heated it up with The Love Interest! We got spice and some more spice! We got enemies to lovers and Vicky chucked in a crush on her brother’s best friend. It was great and hilarious.
I was so excited for this book and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
It was fun; had me squealing in places where I was excited and happy. Laughing out loud at so many bits. I was a big fan of the spice too 🥵🔥 which was captured brilliant. Then there was the romance, that left me swooning in places, a date that would be insane and some great flirty banter. Spot on.
I really enjoyed the plot and characters.
There was an easy, nice friendship between Liv and Stevie. Which was endearing and written wonderfully. Theo and Dan were fab and so sweet too.
I’m such a hopeless romantic so this was perfect for me. I loved it. Here’s to Mr Darcy aka Aiden 😂🥵
Favourites scene - the library! I had so many questions to Vicky on this….
That ending - little bonus too 😍🙌🏼 and I have noted down all the film references to watch and need to read Pride and Prejudice.
Thank you Vicky for keeping me entertained, just brilliant as always 🥰🥵🔥❤️✨
I definitely recommend reading this.
It’s also special how we get Vicky’s lovely, warm personality shining through in her books.
Of course with its Pride & Prejudice vibes I thought this was super cute. Liv could easily be a book bestie given she’s a librarian and aspiring author. Her brother’s best friend Aiden has major Mr. Darcy vibes.

I’m a huge fan of Vicky’s writing and loved how she’s taken the romcom theme and added her own style to the story. If you’re a fan of Mr Darcy, and that scene in the lake, The Love Interest is definitely for you.
A true romance with all the feels. Liv and Aiden have all the chemistry despite ‘hating’ eachother for the past 10 years, and the building of their relationship was gorgeous.
I really enjoyed the other characters and their relationships with Liv in particular. Dan, Theo and Stevie were great additions to the story and their unconditional support for Liv was wonderful. Set in a library with frequent references to all of the favourite romcom stories, this is a story I devoured in just over a day.
Review on The Love Interest
Olivia is the book geek, Aiden is the film lover, and they are rivals with her brother Dan forever acting as their referee. She works part-time as an assistant librarian and he is the newly appointed Head of Film Studies at the university. They have a history Olivia wants to forget but Aiden coming to live in the same house isn’t helping her case at all. As she began to actualize the dream of writing a romance novel, can she hope for a happily ever after? Where art thou Mr. Darcy!
Thoughts:
With a reader + a film-lover duo, not unique but my interest was piqued.
The idea of the book was good; the execution- not so much. The premise had potential but the cliches were the death of it. There is London, an art gallery, delicious food, a steady supply of coffee, some Colin Forth Mr. Darcy references, and significant spice; yet, it was mundane. There was so much to build from, so many descriptive possibilities, and yet it failed to make me feel anything.
I liked the LGBTQ+ representation though.
Vibes: Enemies to Lovers; Film Festival; Forced Proximity. Writer Librarian - Film Professor duo.
It wasn’t a bad book, there just wasn’t anything distinctive about it. Too superficial, not my taste. I respect everyone who worked hard to make this book a success and wish you well, it just wasn't meant for me.
Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the eARC of this book.
This book was such a good read and I was hooked almost from the start until the very end.
This story contains characters that was easy to like and the main character was really like able with their witty comments and arguments.
The story was easy to follow and there are movies and books mentioned inside (Pride and Prejudice for example are mentioned both as a book and the movie with Colin Firth as the amazing Mr Darcy). Sometimes the story was a bit predictable but it definitely didn't bring the book down and it also included a few twists that was very easy to like.
During the read I got to experience various feelings like happy and sad but also a few Oh my that had me blush during a few scenes (Yes steamy).
If you are looking for an really good rom-com with tropes as brothers best friend, frenimes to lovers and a bit of forced proximity then this book might be for you especially if you like your rom-com with steam and Mr Darcy scenes (yes the scene when he comes up from the pond is mentioned).
Now I am looking forward to read more by this author since this was my first time reading anything by her
Searching for the man of your dreams
Can be much harder than stories, it always seems.
Liv Thomas hopes to write a romance
Though in life she doesn't think she has a chance.
A decade ago she met her brother's best friend,
They nearly kissed but that was the end.
Ever since they've argued each time they meet
Despite him being gorgeous with an accent so sweet!
Now he's moving in with her and her brother,
And new inspiration she's about to discover.
She inadvertently writes him as her leading man
That certainly what she'd expected or even plan!
With dreams from a decade and surprises, too,
This enemies to lovers romance I highly recommend to you.
It has Mr Darcy, surprise twists and much more,
Making it a book I really adore.
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
A fun enemies to lovers read! It was the perfect flight companion. Being an Austen lover myself, I appreciated the Mr. Darcy moments. I will say that some parts of the novel were hard to get into.. especially their backstory. But overall, it was a fun read.
I was grateful to read an ARC of this book. I recommend it and enjoyed the character development and was rooting for them, though it was hard to get into the book.
Liv has always wanted to write a romance novel, but with the lack of inspiration, she struggles, until her brother’s best friend moves in with them.
But her worst enemy must only be the love interest between the pages of her book because surely sparks can’t fly in real life with them?
This was a really fun and easy read. Walters gives us great main characters who have chemistry, as well as, banter that left me laughing out loud.
I couldn’t put this book down and got through this really quickly.
There are some bits that are predictable but this does not take away from the novel and is one I can easily recommend.
Librarian Liv Thomas has always wanted to right a romance novel. After moving in with her brother she decides it’s time. Little did she know her arch nemesis and her brothers best friend, Aidan Rivers was moving in with them.
Little by little Liv starts to base the main love interest in her book on Aidan.
What a great Enemy to lovers book. I loved all the banter between Liv and Aidan. I loved how she was into books and he’s into movies. Such a great fast paced novel.
