It was great to learn more about the superstar known as Kylie Minogue especially as I have nostalgic memories of Can't Get You Out Of My Head being released, a great part of my childhood.
Another LPBD book to my read list. This is a fantastic series, always beautifully illustrated, and full of information that will engage both children and adults.
I absolutely love this series of books - I havnt found a bad one yet! Although most of the time it's people I don't know a great deal about so was pleased to se this Kylie Minogue one as I remember her from her Neighbours days.
As always a great read, with little bitesize bits of information about her life along with th normal cute illustrations.
Great book
*Thank you NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for sending me this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.*
Let me start by saying that I'm a fan of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. I love the bite-size biography format and how attention-grabbing each book is.
However, I wasn't really impressed by this particular one. I would have liked to learn more about Kylie Minogue's life, and I wasn't too fond of the art style. Regardless of those aspects, it is still a good picture book that I would recommend to any fan, big or small.
4★
“In class, Kylie was shy and quiet. She never took part in the school plays. But back home, her favorite game was singing for her friends.”
What child hasn’t pretended to sing or make “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN” announcements into a hairbrush? Kylie Minogue was an Aussie girl who, by the looks of the illustration, was a big ABBA fan, as were all the kids (and parents) then.
*My Goodreads review shows an illustration with the caption:
“Using a broom as a microphone, she dreamed of being a star on stage.”
When she and her younger sister Dannii were still very young, their aunt took them to a soap opera audition. The crew thought she was just right, but it was Dannii who was ‘discovered’ on a kids’ television talent show and became a star first.
Kylie apparently loved helping Dannii with her heaps of fan mail, no doubt hoping to attract her own one day. After a few false starts, she hit the TV jackpot with “Neighbours”, and the fictional Ramsay Street hasn’t been the same since.
*My Goodreads review shows an illustration with the caption:
She made her name “playing Charlene, a feisty mechanic with a crush on her buddy, Scott. Everyone was hooked on their love story!”
Even with all of that going on, she remembered her music and recorded an old song, The Loco-Motion”, which became a hit around the world.
I remember reading an article by an Aussie who was so tired of hearing it on the radio, that they thought they’d be safe from it while travelling on the Oriental Express (or one of those far-flung exotic journeys). But no – before long, what should be played for the passengers’ entertainment, but Kylie singing “The Loco-Motion”.
*My Goodreads review shows an illustration with the caption:
“Kylie hadn’t forgotten her passion for music.”
She went to London, became even more famous but craved some independence. She was tired of not being asked for her opinion, so she went shopping – as one does – and bought clothes that she wanted to wear, not what the controlling recording company wanted.
She wore them in a video and was happy to be finally expressing herself.
*My Goodreads review shows an illustration with the caption:
“With every new song, Kylie made pop music fresh again. She experimented with awesome sounds, stunning looks, and spectacular music videos. The best artists, designers, and directors were thrilled to work beside her.”
I’m sure they were thrilled – they would have enjoyed basking in the glow of her success and hoping it would rub off on them.
When she was told she had breast cancer, she shared her diagnosis and treatment with the public, encouraging people to get tested.
She has long been an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and is still a major drawcard wherever she goes, headlining the famous Glastonbury Festival.
*My Goodreads review shows an illustration with the caption:
“ Kylie became the first female artist to have a chart-topping album five decades in a row. From the young to the young at heart, everyone grooved to the rhythm of her songs.”
The Princess of Pop still reigns!
This is a bright, attractive little biography that captures the look and mood of the various periods. Five decades is a long time, after all. I am disappointed that if I didn’t know the blonde was supposed to be Kylie, I would have had no idea who she was. She has such distinctive eyebrows and wide smile, that I thought they might have made an appearance.
There are only a couple of very small pictures in the film frames that hint at her famous gold hotpants and the other bright, fitted costumes she was renowned for. Kylie fans may not mind, but I did.
Thanks to #NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the copy for review of #Kylie Minogue.

I love Kylie Minogue. She always looks fresh and beautiful and kind. This is an adorable little picture book about her life, starting when she was a shy little girl growing up in Australia. She continues to stun today, decades after getting her start, even after going through an open battle with breast cancer.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
We love the Little People Big Dreams series. They continue to be a hit with our family and I love that my kids (and myself) are learning about real people and being inspired by them through these stories.
this one was no different.
I had heard Kylie Minogue's music but hadn't heard her story before. From her beginning as a little girl loving music to the artist who changed the industry, she is a force in pop music. I loved how the back half of the story showed how she worked to bring her own style and flare to her music and image as opposed to what her agents thought would sell...and I love that it worked.
My kids immediately wanted to go listen to some of her music and it spurred great conversations about music (another love of mine), future dreams and bringing your own personality to whatever you do.
In my books, that's a win!
This charming, very short picture book by Sanchez Vegara focuses on the pint-sized pop-princess. The illustrations are undeniably charming and the writing has a peppy, zingy energy about Kylie's natural rise to stardom.
I think it could be longer or could offer some questions or interactive activities to have children better connect with the material, however, I was very content reading this as my first Netgalley request in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Sanchez Vegara.
I love this series of books! They are a great way of making learning about inspiring historical, or more contemporary pop culture, figures fun and informative with lovely illustrations!
I received a free copy of, Kylie Minogue, by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Kyle Minogue is an actor and singer from Australia. This is a good book for kids to learn about Kylie Minogue.
I love this series of books. I will be honest and say I don't think this one was quite as inspiring as some of the other ones I've read but it was still a lovely read, and anyone who likes Kylie would love it! The children's-drawing style illustrations were great, nice and bright for the kids to enjoy. And I did learn a thing or two which I love about these books. I knew she rose to fame from Neighbours but I didn't know she'd been in anything before that. I'm looking forward to seeing who gets one of these books next.
As per usual with the Little People, Big Dreams editions, this one gives a child-appropriate biography of an influential person either contemporary or from history. I love how they seem to focus on women's stories throughout history in general, as they have tended to be erased from collective memory. This issue covers none other than pop icon Kylie Minogue from her childhood in Australia, her sister's earlier success, then her own, her persistence in the music business and later cancer struggles. The illustrations are close to what children themselves draw, yet in a slightly more elevated and proportion-adequate way. A wonderful gift for the children in your life.
Thank you to Net Galley for this eARC!
I gave this book 3 stars as I didn’t think I was the intended audience - this is probably more appealing to younger children!
That been said it was good - the illustrations were nicely done & it was an interesting quick read.
4 stars!
I love Kylie Minogue which is why I wanted to read this. I didn't know some of the stuff it talked about in the book so that was really fantastic to learn new stuff.
The way it was presented was good for children a little older. The pictures made it seem like it was for really young children, but some of the verbiage used seemed to be geared for a little older children.
That being said, I don't see why older children can't have cute picture books also. The real photos at the end timeline were really fun.
An adorable story about a really inspirational performer. The illustrations are lovely but my favorite part was the last pages with the real photos of Kylie. While I know some of her music, not being Australian, I feel like I didn’t know much about her. I had no idea she had been an actress, and I didn’t know about her cancer diagnosis. I wish her all the best and really enjoyed this sweet book.
I'll admit to not being familiar with Kylie (the Australian princess of pop) prior to reading this book. It seems that she had quite the successful and wide-ranging career - between both acting and singing. The story laid out her trajectory and emphasized her focus on working hard to achieve her goals as well as overcoming obstacles along the way.
The illustrations and format of the book are in line with what I expect from this series of Little People, Big Dreams books. I continue to enjoy learning something new about each subject and appreciate the wide range of people that are highlighted in these books.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC to read and review!
Perhaps not the most striking example of someone who overcomes difficulties in earlier life to realise her dreams, but this pop icon it turns out, is very much a role model.
As you look at the ‘highlights’ within this brief life story, aimed at young readers you catch a glimpse into why she has achieved so much success.
I took my own two daughters to a Kylie concert “back in the day” so I know what an inspiring pop star she was and musically still is, with continued chart success and sold out venues. Perhaps it is a good time to add her to these figures within the little people, big dreams series.
What I found most revealing was her shyness but love to perform in safe environments. Despite her sister initially getting more attention and success she never wavered on her own ambitions. The spark and determination was within Kylie; she was not to become a star just because of pushing parents or a determined aunt. She had some inner belief and drive that made her continue with fulfilling her own dreams and finding a platform for her talents across drama, song and fashion.
I liked the way her career blossomed and wasn’t restricted by the first things she achieved. She not only made the most of her talent but she grew as a young actor and found her voice in music and dance rhythms.
Her courage in fronting up to and sharing her cancer diagnosis and treatment journey is perhaps more inspiring and demonstrates the depth of her personality and scope of her courage. But it is her music that elevates her into a superstar and role model.
Another wonderful instalment in this informative and inspiring series.
My daughter loves the little people big dreams books and Kylie, so this was a win win. A great read in a great series.
Not me discovering that Kylie wrote the bop my kid is currently obsessed with and also is a breast cancer survivor like me who is using her platform to advocate for BC awareness. This book was so beautiful and so inspiring and I cannot wait to buy the final copy to add to our collection!!
You can't beat this series of books. Our library patrons and staff talk about them alot. We have a need for more biographies, especially for our homeschoolers, and we are going to start with this collection.
Kylie Minogue tells a kid-friendly version of Kylie's childhood rise to fame. It has short paragraphs of dialogue and large colorful images. The back has a timeline and real-life pictures.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. We will purchase more in this series for the library.
