Thank you to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions and the author for an ARC of this book.
I love Wide Eyed Edition Illustrated Books, so I was eager to pick up this book. I always love finding inspirational tid-bits to either read in the morning before starting my day or right before bed. I also loved that each state had their own inspirational person, when so many states are often left out of lists like this. It was also very neat to learn how each individuals' "trailblazing" is still continuing or being continued today. Great coffee table book with beautiful visuals.
Such a great book for kids! I loved reading this book and learning about all these different amazing people. It is very educational but fun at the same as well. Such an easy way to teach kids!
I loved this book, because it highlighted influential African Americans and Hispanics that have contributed to our rich history, from all fifty states. Although it was written for children, parents can learn a few things from this one as well.
50 states, 50 gamechangers. pioneers.
This is a well-designed and presented but most importantly, inclusive and informative book which is accessible, engaging and fun.
What a fun bio of 50 famous people representing 50 US states. A great way to learn about those who exemplify each state!
This book introduced me to people I have never heard off (eg Margaret Murie) and also taught me things about people I have heard such as Rosa Parks or Betty Ford. I recommend reading a few pages a day, not necessarily everything in one go
I do however wish that there was more information about the Person (and maybe less people overall, maybe putting together 2 Volumes would have been better). I also wish the pages were less busy and they would have stuck with less colours and bigger text, the pages are very busy and at times hard to read, even more so as an e-book
I loved this book! Great introduction to each of the 50 States and trailblazers from each one. I love the images and find the book very captivating.
Very cool book with axing illustrations and information that is kid appropriate and accessible while still sharing quality information. Great resource.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own
As a Canadian, I did not recognize many of the trailblazers or I heard the name but was not familiar with their story. I appreciated this book for that reason, I finished the book and felt excited to have all this new information to share and I know kids will feel the same.
A fantastic book jam packed with colourful engaging illustrations and multiple facts and quotes. Featuring 50 inspirational people from the 50 states this book covers everything from animal rights activists, presidents, mental illness campaigners and more.
This would be a good resource/reference book. It has a lot of information on a two page spread, and could be overwhelming. My concern is that students wouldn't be interested or pick this book up on its own.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
This is a great book to learn about individuals from every state who help make change in the United States. I found the story of each person interesting, many of the people I had never heard of before. Not only does this book teach children about people in history that they might not normally learn about in school but it also teaches them that they can do anything they set their minds to. The illustrations are wonderful and the text is just enough to keep the book interesting without overdoing it.
This is a wonderful companion to the other 50 states book. It allows the reader to learn great information while still being intrigued to research more. There were people that I’d not heard of, which was refreshing amongst the more well known names. Its format is reminiscent of the other books within this series, but there’s enough difference to not get bogged down by the similarities.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Net Galley for an e-copy of 50 Trailblazers of the 50 States by Howard Magdalene in exchange for a honest review. This is a great book for elementary school readers(3rd-6th grades) who want to read about people who have made a difference and helped shape our country into the great place it is; many at a great cost to themselves..Some are well known and some I have never heard of so this is a valuable read for the young and old,Very well illustrated also!
This book is a quick and captivating journey through American history for young readers. Ideal for home, school, or the library, it explores key social issues like feminism and civil rights, featuring trailblazers such as Rosa Parks, Barack Obama, Margaret Murie, and Betty Ford from each state. Each section includes a brief summary, detailed timeline, key facts, and insights, showcasing America's enduring greatness in equal rights, feminism, and environmentalism. It not only spotlights well-known trailblazers but also introduces those who may be less familiar—a unique aspect.
I enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it.
This is the kind of history I want my children to learn in school!! Inclusive, not White male-dominated, that doesn't gloss over historical fact to make people look better but focuses on the accomplishments of so many. Love it!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of "50 Trailblazers of the 50 states" by Howard Megdal. All opinions are my own.
This is such a great book that covers 50 important and accomplished individuals from each state. Highly recommend.
I was very happy to be able to learn about / learn more about these 50 trailblazers from the United states of America.
I loved the table of contents at the beginning and how it was laid out state by state on a map of the USA. I enjoyed that it has people from our history and people from our present represented. While o thought the Americana drawing were nice, I felt that for some people there was just too much information making the page very busy. Kudos that at the end you not only included more inspirational trailblazers but you also included a glossary.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.
I like the idea of a book about trail blazers from every state but the execution and selection is messy. Each state gets two pages to cover one person that was a trailblazer. Most of the people are politicians, political activists and sports figures who fought for rights of minorities, race relations, votes, conservationism, mental health etc. There are 25 male and 25 females chosen and there is a mix of living and historical. I found being a trailblazer is a subjective term. President Obama as the first black President in my mind is a trailblazer. But while I agree that Woody Guthrie was an activist, I don’t know I consider him a trailblazer. The person chosen to represent my state is a LGBTQ activist whose name I didn’t know. In fact I only knew thirty percent of the people in the book. The illustrations are colorful but the font size is small and there is a large amount of text for younger readers.
