⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Night She Died - Sarah Clarke

After Reading ‘The Ski Trip’ by Sarah, I was really looking forward to getting into this - and it is simply unputdownable!

Dark, twisted and with so many suspects - it had me second guessing right up until the epilogue!

I’m not normally a fan of novels that flick forward and backwards in time, but the writing was so good that it kept you hooked and the unfolding of the plot took centre stage.

Sarah has now become a firm favourite of here - let’s hope it isn’t too long before her next cracker of a book is out!

I liked the premise of the novel. However, the dual points of view and jumping about it timelines confused me. I failed to finish the novel.

I have read and enjoyed previous novels from this author but for some reason I couldn’t gel with this one. I found the plot too slow and didn’t particularly like the characters. Others have loved it, but sadly not for me. 2.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.

I was excited to get to this one as it sounded good to me. It was a fast read and kept me engaged the whole way through. The prologue really drew me in
I had no idea who the killer was which just made me turn the pages even quicker! I really enjoyed this one. Great writing!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of the ebook.

Lucy Rose, is a quiet teenager who's life is being ruined by two bullies, Amber and her older sister Jess.

They are a troubled pair, living with a new foster family after a tragic early start in life.

When Rachel, Lucy's Mother comes across the body of a teenager whilst out running, her first instinctive reaction is relief, when she realises it is Amber.

She can no longer bully her sweet daughter who has never done anything to hurt anyone.

This relief quickly turns to panic as she realises her daughter was missing for a large portion of the previous night.

How will this look to the Police?

Rachel decides that she must protect her daughter at all costs, and begins to use her own role as a social worker to do some digging in to the girls background and try and make something or someone else accountable.

What she discovers is beyond what she ever could have imagined, but it also brings in to question some things she thought she knew about those around her.

Could there be more to this murder than meets the eye?

And just who can Rachel trust?

The Night She Dies by Sarah Clarke was an excellent thriller which kept me hooked from start to finish.
This was a fast paced thriller with all the characters having secrets. There was lots of twists and turns with an ending that surprised me. I really enjoyed the storyline of this book and didn't suspect anything that happened.
I loved the suspense and the twist and it kept me hanging on with every page!

Thank You NetGalley and HQ Digital for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

A young girl is being bullied at school. Her social worker mother is torn between wanting to protect her daughter and understanding the bullies and then someone dies. This book twists and turns like a roller coaster, speeding faster and faster as more of the truth is revealed. I suspected everyone in turn, and yet still was surprised at the ending. An exciting crime novel, well worth the read!

A somewhat confusing tale where the time lines are backwards and forwards. It was sad to have Rachel suspecting at various times both her daughters and her husband of being capable of murder. This made it rather a depressing read!
Cleverly told with so many characters suspected and members of the police calling in at the family home to ask more questions.
Definite food for thought.
Three and a half stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Sarah Clarke/HQ for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

My thanks to HQ and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Night She Dies’ written by Sarah Clarke in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

It’s early morning and Rachel Salter is on a trail run in Chinnor Hill Nature Reserve when she comes across a body that’s later identified as Amber, half-sister to Jess, who together target Rachel’s fifteen-year-old daughter Lucy by threats and bullying her. Rachel realises that Lucy has every reason for wanting revenge, but if she hasn’t killed Amber then who has?

‘The Night She Dies’ is an intriguing action-packed thriller with the timelines of before, the night she dies, and now. I like how the story has been written especially the addition of emails written by DI Finnemore to his Superintendent that give a succinct precis of their investigations to date. As the story progresses the tension increases and the unexpected twists and turns plus the large number of suspects make it difficult to decide who’s actually responsible for killing Amber. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this novel, the best one I’ve read by this author so far, and I can recommend it with no hesitation.

Good storyline with excellent characters. You are given so many options of who the culprit could be that it leaves you guessing right till the end.

Wow, thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this early!

This was a detective story about a not-so-sweet teen who gets murdered. The thing is, none of the suspects are very likeable either. It was kind of hard to find someone to root for! The mystery was good and definitely kept me guessing! There's a surprising twist at the very end, with the killer being someone you barely even notice! Very good Ms Clarke THANK U

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. "The Night She Dies" by Diane Jeffrey is an engaging and thought-provoking thriller that kept me hooked from start to finish. Set in a small Oxfordshire town, the story revolves around the murder of a teenage girl, whose death sends shockwaves through the tight-knit community. This girl, known for being a foster child, drug dealer, and bully, leaves behind a trail of secrets and suspicions.

The story follows Rachel Salter, the jogger who discovers the body. When she recognises that the victim was her daughter's bully she panics and decided to lie to the police saying she did not know who the victim was. With her daughter having gone missing for an extended period the night before, Rachel begins to lie to the police, fearing the worst. As a social worker, she exploits her position to gather information and investigate the case herself, suspecting even her own daughters and husband. This aspect of the plot, while intriguing, was somewhat hard to digest – the ease with which Rachel doubted her family strained believability.

Despite this, Jeffrey handles sensitive topics such as foster care with care and nuance, adding depth to the narrative. The book's strength lies in its ability to keep readers guessing. I found myself constantly changing my mind about who the culprit might be, and the ultimate revelation was genuinely shocking. This is a true page-turner of a whodunnit, guaranteed to keep you guessing wrong until the very end.

The main reason for not giving this book a higher rating is the lack of trust and understanding within Rachel's family. It was difficult to believe that family members could harbor such dark suspicions about each other. However, the novel's gripping plot and sensitive handling of complex issues make it a worthwhile read for fans of mystery and thriller genres.

A brilliant storyline and I had no idea who the murderer was. The family dynamics were so true to life and I kept thinking about the secrets we each have in real life!! I would thoroughly recommend this book.

I hated the ending! Lol just to get the negatives out the way. However, it's a really decent, fast paced thriller. It's spilt timelines and plenty of twists and red herrings. I can't see anyone would guess the ending and my theory changed almost with every page I read. More of less every character is suspicious and tbh, I wasn't really fond of any of them. I did still get quite immersed in the story even without being invested into anyone mainly because I just wanted to know whod done it. It def delivers what it sets out to

Great emotional psychological thriller. This is a wonderful story about families, their values and the lies and truths that can change them. The differences between two families of two daughters are part of the story but there are so many twists and turns to make it totally engrossing & intriguing. Highly recommended

This is the first novel I've read by the author and I found it to be a decent thriller although I did lose interest about halfway through.
When Rachel discovers the body of a teenage girl while out on a morning run she begins to suspect the involvement of her daughter Lucy who has been bullied by the girl and her sister. The novel started off well and I was drawn into Rachel's life and the investigation into the teenager's murder. However, I did think the plot became stuck about halfway through and there seemed to be too many suspects and red herrings. The author does a good job of bringing to life a small town community and the gossip and suspicions after the murder. I did enjoy the ending, which was unexpected.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

I struggled in the beginning with the time jumps, but that's only because it's something I'm not a great fan of. Once I got into the plot, the jumps didn't annoy me anymore. I kept trying to decide who my main suspect was, but with so many 'clues' I changed my mind with almost every page. I have to say though, it wasn't any of my suspects and I didn't see that coming.

This is a murder mystery based around the murder of a teenage girl. The girl is not pleasant, she is a bully and extremely manipulative. However, the characters who may have committed the murder aren’t particularly nice either. I struggled to find a character whom I liked/empathised with. This made the story quite heavy going for me although the plot line was strong and kept me engaged throughout the whole story. There was a twist at the end as the murderer turns out to be a very peripheral character which is only revealed in the last couple of pages.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing style, it was nice to read and I enjoyed the little details in the world-building, which made me feel immersed in the story.

I love a murder mystery, and there were many credible suspects in this one and lots of red herrings so you almost end up suspecting everyone at one point. I liked the mini twists throughout the book and the drip-feed of information throughout for it all to come together at the end and make sense. I liked the multiple timelines and POVs, I felt that they added a good depth to the story without ever being confusing.

I would definitely recommend this book as I very much enjoyed reading it.
