A quick fire read that has you thinking you had it all worked out when you don’t. An easy read but I did find it a little difficult to work out when the timelines were as I couldn’t remember all the individual dates. A low level thriller but it didn’t get my heart racing likes others I’ve read recently.
Lucy is having a tough time at school. Newcomers Jess and Amber have recently moved into the area from Oxford. The move is a sudden one due to difficult circumstances at their old foster carers. The sisters are inseparable and whatever Amber says is listened to by Jess. This means that when Amber starts a relentless bullying campaign against Lucy, Jess has no option but to follow. But how far will the bullying go, and how long will gentle Lucy take to snap?
A thrilling, exciting book, full of twists and red herrings.
I enjoy this author’s writing, really liked My Perfect Friend, and this is just as gripping.
A joy to read. Fast paced, twisty and unpredictable, a proper thriller. A few unresolved threads, but an unexpected epilogue.
Thank you NetGalley and HQ.
How gorgeous is this cover? It drew me in straight away.
I really enjoyed this thriller. The characters were well written and I was really invested in their outcome and story. I had my suspicions from the start, but I was wrong. However, I do feel like there were far too many red herrings, and the main MC was overly suspicious of everyone, doubting everything and constantly changing her mind. If you like unreliable narrators, then this is a great book for you.
I struggled to keep up with the changing of timelines, but eventually I understood. It's a slow burn thriller, with multiple POVs and timelines, with a shocking ending. Although I was left with a few unanswered questions.
Firstly I want to say that I really like how Sarah Clarke writes. The Ski Trip was a brilliant book.
*Spoilers* I don't feel I can review this honestly without commenting on the ending.
This one started off strong, split narrators and timelines (my favourite kind of book) with lots of "clues" to keep you guessing. I was so sure I had it worked out and then and then the massive curve ball at the end blew my mind but I think weakened the story so that's why it's 4* not 5.
Overall another great book and one to binge read for sure.
When a teenaged girl is murdered in a small Oxfordshire town, the tight-knit community is shocked. But no one is more concerned than Rachel Salter, the jogger who found the body. Because the girl had been bullying Rachel's daughter, Lucy, at school. What should Rachel do? If she reports the crime, will her daughter be blamed? Has her daughter got anything to do with it?
Sarah Clarke's latest novel is undoubtedly her best yet. Thought-provoking, it deals sensitively with issues such as foster care and presents a situation that is frightening real.
The Night She Dies hooked me in right from the prologue and is full of twists and surprises. A tale of love, loss and revenge, it asks the question: how far would you go to protect your daughter?
Haunting and atmospheric, this is a page-turner of a whodunnit that is guaranteed to have you guessing wrongly right up until the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the arc
Oooh, I really enjoyed this one. I could never guess who the killer were and that's a good thriller! It was gripping and engaging and definitely worth a read!
Firstly thank you to The publishers for my early copy to review .
This is a fast paced thriller full of suspense .
Who is telling the truth?
A story of twists and turns ,also don’t trust anyone!
Interesting to read about foster kids and the challenges they face in day to day life as well as the big challenges .
Not all is at it seems and be sure not to jump to conclusions !
I loved this book so much it was such a gripping read. I enjoyed the writing style and the dual timeline before and after which helped build up the suspense. It had me gripped from start to finish I could not work out who done the murder everyone was a suspect with a motive. There was many surprises throughout which kept me gripped even more. This was such a fantastic thriller I can’t wait to recommend it to everyone. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this amazing book.
I loved this book which I received from net galley and the publishers.
How far will parents go to protect their children?
When a school bully is found murdered by the mother of her victim, what will everyone think?
Are the parents covering for their child or each other or is something else going on.
A very twisty novel that kept me gripped till the very last page
4 stars
This was a brilliant and engaging read with so much tension and so many secrets! Sarah really had a talent for making you believe the murderer could have been absolutely anybody, I was constantly changing my predictions! I really enjoyed the secrets that were revealed and the reveal of the murderer, it was all well plotted and I had an absolute adrenaline rush with this one. I refused to put it down until all was revealed. Would highly recommend and I will be exploring Sarah's back log, as this is my first read of hers.
a dual-pov crime thriller following the journey of before - after and during a murder.
the writing is super gripping and feels haunting at times. it touches on quite a few topics that can be harder to read, such as bullying and addiction.
the atmosphere of the book is dark, angsty and has lots of twists. you cant help but feel empathy for the two main characters, as they tell their story.
this book is pretty similar to most crime / murder mysteries i’ve read over the years, but i still enjoyed it regardless.
Entertaining quick, easy read.
Just what I was after.
The sort of thing you want to pack in your beach bag, and fly through.
Amber and Jess were interesting characters.
The thing with close-knit communities that they always have their secrets - even if those are, at times, open secrets. For example, people may well know things and choose to look the other way.
And then, of course, there are those who do not have that option...
This is a gripping story about what it means to be a parent when you aren't sure that you can protect your child. And the extents that you will go to in order to do just that.
This is an entertaining read, which is something you can rely on when it comes to Sarah Clarke. A novel that's both relatable and, at times, almost profound. It gets 3.5 stars.
This is an intelligent read, that really makes you think. Full of surprises, and a taut and twisty plot line that keeps you engaged throughout, I loved it.
Reading this book was such a adrenaline rush especially as the twists and turns came out, such a good read.
