This graphic novel is so good! The art is stunning and the story has me hooked. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what unfolds in vol 2!
I am definitely going to be buying this whole series!
Pros:
Artwork is gorgeous.
Characters have lots of fun and memorable interactions.
Willpower based magic (with awesome visual effects).
Lots of mystery and plot threads.
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve always wanted to read this on WEBTOONs but never got around to it,so I’m very thankful to NetGalley and Oni Press for giving me this arc in exchange for my honest review!
I don’t usually read this genre of books so I was thrilled with how much I enjoyed this! Who doesn’t love a good enemies to lovers? The artwork and color go so beautifully together, I couldn’t put this down!
I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for volume two!
Sweet and innocent girl marries a bad boy. Nothing new here. So far there's barely any magic in it. Although I am curious to dragons' nature tbh.
It's a cheesy and goofy enemies to lovers romance. It has its moments although sometimes characters behave as if they are 15 and not thinking. I sadly can't talk much about the plot without spoiling. But there's some predictable but nonetheless juicy stuff here.
There's also greed and selfishness and skeletons in closets. I really like that that servants seem to gossip so much. Sometimes nobles forget servants do talk to each other and maybe their enemy has a spy or two among them.
I don't know if I'll continue with the series. It's neither great nor terrible. Thank you Netgalley and ONI press for providing me with free ARC in exchange for an honest review
I am not aware of the genesis of this story, but I enjoyed the first volume in graphic novel form quite a bit and look forward to reading the sequel.
Non sono a conoscenza della genesi di questa storia, ma il primo volume in forma di graphic novel mi é piaciuto parecchio e non vedo l'ora di leggere il seguito.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
This was so fun! It was my first book by Junepurr and it will not be the last. I cannot wait to read Volume 2!
Oni Press provided an early galley for review.
This collection of the beginning of this Webtoon is absolutely goregeous. The art, to me, is a mix of East and West, of anime and Disney, with such vibrant colors that pull the reader into this world a mysticism and mystery.
The story has plenty of relationship drama, palace intrigue and political positioning. While I am unsure where the plot will end up, the ride is an interesting one. I am looking forward to future volumes in the series. Highly recommended for anyone who like romantic fantasy.
There are no words rich enough to fully describe subzero in all its glory. The characters are tantalizing from lovely and spirited Clove who is forced to marry her sworn enemy, the handsome smoldering but cunning prince Kyro, Kyro younger sister Kharis, Aaron and Nouren. I love them all. The cast is fantastic. And the Tory is sweeping. Get ready to swoon. Because all this gorgeous artwork is just the icing on a masterful delicious cake of storyline. As the Azure dragon, Clove is coveted for her status, her stunning beauty and her power but she hide a secret that could be very dangerous to herself and her kingdom. By contrast Kyro, the handsome Crimson dragon is a catch and then some but strongly guards his heart against his betrothed and anyone else who might come close to him after suffering a devastating loss in his past. Can these two , thrown together, find a way past thei ancient grudge of their houses to discover a soul mate in one another or are they destined by the plotting of their own houses and their painful pasts to betray and destroy each other? Only time will tell! You must read this! It’s amazing!
Still a phenomenal manga. Junepurrr has lovely writing and the art is lovely. Can't wait for the publisher to release the next chapters.
My thoughts: I was interested in getting into more graphic novels, and I was super excited to get approved for this one. The art was beautiful, so many details and the MMC was perfect 😍 As for the plot, the fmc was strong and spoke her mind and even in times she would seem not so graceful, she still stood strong and did what she had to. I really liked her dynamic with the mmc and I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationship grows. I’m a sucker for arranged marriage especially when it’s enemies to lovers. This was mostly world building and character introductions, but it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger , and I’m so looking forward to the next episodes. If you’re a fan of webtoon, epic tales of fantasy, dragons, arranged marriage, and enemies to lovers, I’d suggest starting this series 😊
To save her people, princess Clove the last remaining heir of the Cerulean Dragon clan must marry her greatest enemy the heir to the Crimson Dragon clan, prince Kyro. I really liked this graphic novel, the art is gorgeous and the story is interesting so far. I can’t wait to see what happens in vol 2.
Thank you Netgalley and Oni Press for sending me a ARC of this graphic novel.
I absolutely love this series and have been following it since the beginning, so I jumped at the chance to review it. Subzero blends fantasy, romance, and political intrigue into a visually stunning and emotionally charged narrative. The first volume has already established a strong foundation, drawing readers into its richly imagined world and complex character dynamics.
Clove is a well-crafted protagonist, balancing her royal responsibilities with her personal struggles. Her strength and vulnerability make her a relatable and compelling character. Kyro, on the other hand, is enigmatic and brooding, with layers of complexity that slowly unravel as the story progresses. Their chemistry is electric, filled with tension and moments of genuine connection.
The artwork is breathtaking. The detailed character designs, vibrant color palettes, and dynamic action sequences elevate the storytelling. The use of dragon symbolism and motifs throughout adds depth to the narrative, emphasizing the cultural significance and power struggles central to the plot. The story explores themes of duty, sacrifice, and the pursuit of peace following the two different nations. The political intrigue adds a layer of complexity to the romance, making it more than just a love story. The conflicts between personal desires and greater good are portrayed with nuance, creating a sense of realism within the fantastical setting.
The first volume of Subzero is an excellent start to what promises to be an engaging and emotionally resonant series. The combination of strong characters, beautiful artwork, and intricate plotting makes it a must-read for fans of fantasy and romance. The story's pacing is well-balanced, providing enough action and emotional beats to keep readers hooked.
I followed this comic when it first started on WEBTOON, and I’ve been in love with the art and story from the very beginning. Anyone with iOS will know that app can be frustrating, so I can’t express how excited I am to finally have it on my shelf at home.
The story grips you immediately. The art is meticulously done. The artist’s choice of colors adds an extra layer of depth because each one has a symbolic meaning within the story.
If you like dragons, magic, enemies to lovers, romance, gorgeous art, and amazing storytelling—get this asap. You absolutely will not regret it.
Strong start for an enemies to lovers romance where they are each tied to dragons/turn into dragons. There is some intrigue afoot as well and plenty of room for character growth.
This is total fantasy with no historical context. It's fun and seems good for older YA and adult readers.
I'm interested to see where it goes since right now I'm reading eating popcorn and dying to know what happens next.
As the last heir of the Cerulean Dragon, Clove agrees to leave the only home she's ever known to join in a political marriage in order to end the 300 year war with the Crimson Empire. Thrust into this new Empire, it is hard to tell who Clove can trust. As tensions run high Clove must work with Kyro to help prevent the peace between the two empires before it's too late.
I was so excited to see that SubZero was being published! I loved this Volume and I can't wait to read Volume two. The chemistry between Clove and Kyro is the perfect enemies to lovers vibe. The storyline is really intense and it's hard to tell where the next threat is going to come from. I highly recommend this one for anyone who is a fan of Manga and Webtoons!
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this one in exchange for an honest review.
The most enjoyable part of this graphic novel was definitely the artwork. It's full of vibrant, pretty illustrations that kept me reading this one.
As for the story I thought it was quite a shallow, 'samey' to other dragon based science fiction, and it was quite a slow read for me personally. I was confused by some of the character's actions throughout, and honestly you have to pick your brain to figure out what is going on. I kept on reading this as I thought the story had potential, but the first volume dragged things out a bit too much for seemingly no reason.
I'm not sure if I feel this way as I haven't previously read the webtoon and went in blind, but nothing in this novel gripped me in any way. I won't be picking up the second volume.
Lovely story book. It's not my type of reading but I appreciated very much the plot and the characters of this book. I recommend If you love fantasy books.
Thanks to Netgalley and WEBTOON for the E-Book ARC
Ok, I'll be honest, I requested this initially because I thought it was about Mortal Kombat ( I know, I'm showing my age), and after reading this I'm pretty sure that's not the case lol.
This one is for the ones who love romantasy, dragons, elemental magic, enemies to lovers, and marriage of convenience. Are you a Fourth Wing stan? This'll probably be your cup of traitor tea. I look
I look forward to getting my hands on a print edition eventually!
I think the reason for my three stars is totally subjective. I couldn't connect much with the illustrations and that meant I couldn't enjoy the story 100%.
The story itself is good, it's interesting, a little cliché perhaps but this is the first volume so there are sure to be great adventures and possible plot twists to come. I liked the characters, I feel that they are going to add a lot to this story and on top of that since it is an enemies to lovers, I wanted to read it.
As I said before, when I read a graphic novel or a manga I get very deep into the plot through the illustration and in this case I felt like it took me off axis.
Thank you Oni Press for the ARC I read on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC. I read SubZero as a Webtoon and when I saw it would be coming out as a physical volume you can bet I RAN to request this arc. I love this story so much, the drama, the angst, the romance, it all had me on the edge of my seat. I ate this up, I sped through it so fast. If you love dragons, enemy to lovers, and court politics, this is for you. I cannot wait to have the physical copy in my hands so I can admire the beauty of Clove and Kyro in beautiful ink.
